Trackpad click shows cursor 1 space to right

Is anyone else seeing this symptom?
When using the Trackpad (A1339) to place a cursor (between characters), the resulting cursor shows 1 character/space to the right. So you have to 'aim off' in order to select the right character.
In fact, it's 2 places to the right.
To replicate:
Select 10pt
Write some text with no spaces between
Use trackpad to select between 2 characters
Use arrow back key to count the amount of 'offset' there is.

Fixed with another machine shut-down, and reboot.

Trackpad click makes cursor jump right. How to fix?

When clicking on my trackpad (newish Macbook Pro) the cursor jumps right about 1cm. It can take bookmarks with it for example, drasgging them out of the tool bar, or just fail to action the clicked link. The second click is fine. To clarify, the first click either jumps right, away from target click area, or takes an item with it. I have been using a Mac since 1984 so I know how to click!!! This characteristic is irritating. Anuyone any ideas? Thanks

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. Step 2 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.

Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. *Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode. Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Trackpad clicking but not responding

I have an almost 4 year old macboook pro unibody intel dual core and last night the trackpad stop responding when you try to open a folder or program.
physically the trackpad clicks and 2 or 3 finger gesture/slides works. when you put the cursor on a program it lit up but when you click that program it's not
responding or won't do anything at all. thought I post this question first to get a quick solution before I take it to the apple store. any help is greatly appreciated.

This definitly sounds like it's on the right track! My macbook is a 2009, so if this is common amongst 2009s it could be the problem.
From the video though, I wasn't clear if the problem that this solution address is for which of the two problems:
1) The trackpad not clicking without pushing hard
2) The trackpad clicking with an average push but not registering without clicking hard
This solution is also interesting to me because I had my battery replaced about 5 months a go and it might be possible that this screw could have been moved at that time.

Trackpad 'click' is not responsive at times

I've been having this problem for a while, occasionally the 'click' for the trackpad doesn't work, with the Macbook not responding at all. The trackpad moves the cursor alright during these times though.
This happens most right after booting up and logging in, although it does occasionally happen later on.

I have had this problem for months now. I can pinpoint the exact moment that I started having problems with the trackpad on my macbook, and it was when I upgraded my OS to Snow Leopard. I can categorically say that prior to the upgrade I had not issues whatsoever with the trackpad. There was never an issue - it just behaved perfectly.
Months later, I still see that people, like myself, are having problems. I still believe that this is software and not a hardware problem. I have updated from 10.6 through to 10.6.4 each time hoping that I can get my trackpad back functioning correctly as it did prior to the 10.6 upgrade.
I have emailed Apple feedback numerous times - the last time offering them the opportunity to take my macbook for investigation because so many people are still having problems... but as with just about everyone else, I never get a reply.
I really wish Apple would do something about this situation because it appears to affect so many people. The simple fact, though, it that NONE of these problems existed prior to 10.6 (Snow Leopard). I still blame SL for the error in trackpad function.
After many years of recommending Apple, I now always mention the problems that I have had. The complete inability of Apple to deal with this issue openly (or even privately by writing to me), has led me to be much, much less glowing about their products and customer service.

How do i get my screen that show by columns (letf to right) 1) showed Albumn Name then under that showed Artist, next column listed songs on that albumn, next was time (song length), then Artist, Genre, Rating

I imported 2174 songs into my itunes from my husbands CD collection. Then for some reason i was checking out some of itune features. I clicked on FILE>DISPLAY DUPLICATES, Just to see what this feaure was. it changed my page to something that i did not like. I am trying to figure out how to get my itunes VIEW to what it was BEFORE i clicked on the DISPLAY DUPLICATES. My page before looked like: as follows (columns from LEFT TO RIGHT) showed:
COLUMN 1) showed ALBUMN NAME WITH ARTIST RIGHT UNDER THAT, then COLUMN 2) LISTED ALL THE SONGS ON THAT ALBUMN, COLUMN 3) SHOW TIME (SONG LENGTH), COLUMN 4) ARTIST 5) GENRE 6) RATING & 7) PLAYS (WHATEVER THAT MEANS?)

The large text size makes your post almost impossible to read.
Excessive use of bold or capitals (also) makes posts difficult to read.
You can drag most of the column headings left or right, or right-click on the header to turn columns on or off.
Once you've used File > Display Duplicates or Shift > File > Display Exact Duplicates you can use File > Display All or the Display All button at the bottom of the list to restore the display.

Select the iPod shuffle in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES). If this is a current 4th (or 3rd) gen iPod shuffle, you should be able to see the contents of the shuffle by type, intented under the shuffle's name (still in the sidebar). Select Music or Audiobooks (not sure where those items from the library will be listed). The items will be listed to the right, for each category. Find the items, select, and delete.

NOTE: If this is an 1st or 2nd gen iPod shuffle, select the iPod shuffle in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES). Over to the right, go to the Contents tab, where the items are listed. Select and delete them from this list.
I find it more convenient to make a playlist in iTunes with things I want to put on the shuffle. I then set up automatic syncing (or use autofill) to have iTunes load the shuffle from that playlist, automatically.

Macbook pro 10.6.8 locks up yet trackpad still moves cursor?

My 2008 Macbook Pro running 10.6.8 (fully up to date) locks up completely though I can still move the mouse on the screen using the trackpad(I have not attempted a USB mouse to see if that still moves the cursor). The Dock does not appear when I mouse over the edge, and I can not get a Command/Option/esc. to pull up the force quit menu(just to see if there is a specific program not responding).
System does not recover given almost an hour to clear this morning. Had to force a shutdown via holding the power button. System restarted fine but has done the same thing twice now today.
I've been having sporadic video issues possibly related to the known Invidia Chipset failure issue. Checked the Mac at the local Apple store(did not present the issue then), was told to bring it back if it has another episode of video problems. I did get a short video glitch just before the second lock up and hit Command/Shift/3 to take a screen shot, which after rebooting showed a normal screen with no distortions present.
This is the first time it has locked up like this. Usually when the video issue happens I just see a reddish tint on the screen or it gets distortion lines over the entire screen.
Would a faulty Video chipset cause the entire system to lockup yet still allow mouse movement? Should I return to the genius bar for another Invidia check?

I have a very similar issue with the trackpad that showed up yesterday on my MBP2008 running 10.6.8. I have been able to attached a usb mouse and navigate but the second I touch the pad, it locks up and the usb mouse becomes unusable. I then have to do a restart using the power button. No video issues though...

Trackpad click not as sensitive after service

Hi there, just had the logic board replaced in my mid-2010 MBP, and I find now that the trackpad click is not as sensitive, it works about 90% of the time, but the 10% is quite frustrating. Even with the audible click, sometimes it doesn't register, and I need to hold it with more pressure. Is this something that they could have modified accidentally during re-construction of the mac body after logic board replacement?

There are times when I can play with my 3gs for long periods of time without a problem. Other times, it only takes a few seconds for the screen to stop responding. Pressing the sleep (?) button on the top right a couple of times (on, off) brings it back on... but only for a few seconds. I'm wondering if iCloud has anything to do with this.... and/or the network connection. I was thinking perhaps it fails when I'm no edge and not WiFi.

Trackpad click uneven

will this wear off by using the right side more?

I do not know if it will wear off. While waiting for that, you may wish to make sure there is nothing lodged under one side of the trackpad causing the issue. Take a can of compressed air with the thin "straw" tip attached and spray the air in one side while clicking down on the other side (so the side you're spraying raises as much as it can).

Trackpad Clicking Problem

My new, White MacBook 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo is pretty sweet, but something is not right with "clicking" enabled on the trackpad.
Try this, MacBook brethren: Enable trackpad clicking. Open Safari and use trackpad to position your arrow upon Safari's "down" scrolling arrow at the bottom right of the Safari window. Now, use trackpad clicking three or four times in succession, at a steady rate, to scroll down the web page. Does your mouse arrow jitter off of the scroll arrow forcing you to reposition your mouse arrow over the scroll arrow again? This is happening to me. Double clicking, too, causes the mouse arrow to jump, usually to the left a bit. Not a big problem, most of the time, but if you are scrolling and want to watch the window content while you click, this "track pad" jitter is very, very frustrating.
Please advise what you get, thanks!

I've had the clicking feature turned off, b/c it kept interfering with selecting text on accidental double clicks. I turned it back on and tried what you did, and mine has the tendency to go all over the place when clicking multiple times in succession.
This is because I probably am not clicking the same exact spot every time, causing the mouse to move ever so slightly. If you turn on two finger scrolling, you can scroll through any document or web page without having to click the mousepad; it's a very nice feature and I'd strongly recommend to use this instead of clicking, because it's just so convenient. I use the button on the trackpad for clicking, because I got fed up with the accidental input when I tried to use the trackpad to scroll.

17" Macbook Pro Noise & Trackpad Click Sound

I just got a new 17" MBP delivered from Apple, its a fantastic computer. I've upgraded from a Titanium Powerbook.
I notice when I move the new Macbook I hear a sound like a light saber from the left side, very low, its only apparent when the device is tilted, I assume its the HD, (I haven't installed the ssd in my signature yet, so still on the 7200 stock HD), is this normal, I never heard it from my Powerbook?
Also the trackpad click noise and feel are not the same as the ones in my local apple supplier, I have a noticeable click sound pressing the trackpad, and some slight resistance before the click engages, but the store ones I tried have no resistance before the click engaging and there is no audiable click from the trackpad. Is this because mine is new? Will mine go "soft" like the store models I tried?

Regarding the "click" sound: as was already mentioned, there should be some click and resistance in your trackpad, specifically as you move down the pad from top to bottom. If you're convinced that these are more audible and resistant than they should be, you may be right: when I first got a unibody MacBook in early 2007, I had to return it to the Mac Store immediately because of a similar problem, and they ended up replacing the entire chassis as a result. Unfortunately, the same problem ended up coming back again, and I obstinately decided to live with it instead of doing the right thing and having it fixed, so I dealt with a progressively loud trackpad for the next few years.
My advice: if it doesn't feel right, make an appointment with your nearest Mac Store and have them look at it. It won't cost you anything, and the worst that can happen is that they tell you it's fine (which you can again verify while at the same store by trying other machines of the same make and model).

Trackpad click stuck and flashing screen

Suddenly and for no apparent reason, I can no longer click my trackpad click bar (is that the correct term?) OR my Bluetooth MightMouse. Right-click works on the mouse, but it seems like the trackpad bar is stuck or something. I'm guessing the wireless mouse isn't clicking because the trackbar is stuck in "mid-click" mode, but I guess it could be a software issue.
Another possibly related issue: a couple of times instead of going to the screen saver my monitor just flashed on and off repeatedly. A mouse movement or keyboard entry brought it back, as it would from the screen saver.
As far as I can tell, nothing happened prior to this problem. The MacBook was was working fine on my desk, I left it on while I went out for a few hours, and when I returned I noticed these problems.
Any ideas?

If your battery's case is bulging and coming apart, you should stop using it and return it to Apple immediately. They will replace it for free if it is less than a year old. And they might even replace it for free even if it is more than a year old.

Even after using the harddisk-tool to repair rights and catalog
the info below the harddrive shows more GB than it's own size.
This also appears in the info-window (command - i )
749,GB size of HD / 765,16 GB free
But the information about the harddrive shown in the harddrive-repair-tool
seems to be right, and shows approx. 600GB free of the 750GB harddrive ...
I'am a bit worried and are looking for a solution to repair this ...
