Trackpad clicking not accepted

I have a Macbook Pro.  I have not upgraded to Mountain Lion.  I have not installed any new software.  My trackpad cursor will register movement but will not accept click.
I have tried a different user but had the same problem.
Has anybody heard of this issue?  I live almost 2 hours away from the nearest Apple Store, that is the bare minimum.
Lisa

On both cases, does the trackpad physically click? Do you hear and feel it click as the front edge drops down a few thousands of an inch?
If the answer is NO and as you feel around the edge you can feel the surface of the trackpad lower at the front than the back edge, then it is stuck. The thing is mounted on a pivot, with the hinge on the rear edge, so it angles down as a microswitch does the click. Unfortunately, the minute gap between the trackpad and the aluminum case is open to any debris that may lodge in there.
So grab a flashlight and a magnifying glass and inspect the separation between the two. First you'll see that it is stuck in the down position and hopefully you will see where the contamination got lodged. Can try to dislodge by using one of those compressed air "dusters" sold at office supplies. If that doesn't work, can try a "wet approach" with a can of high quality electronic contacts cleaner: just be sure to do the blasting with the Mac UPSIDE DOWN so the fluid won't go down into the guts of the computer. Someone else can help holding the Mac while you go at it with the can.
Or take it to the Store and hope the Geniuses live up to their moniker.

  • 13in. 2008 trackpad click not working

The physical click on my trackpad is not working. Cleaned it thoroughly, tried removing the battery (bloating) and that did not work. Any thoughts? Things I shoud try? Thank you.

With the glass buttonless trackpad that the model 6,1 Late 2009 has you need to have the Tap To Click box checked in System Preferences>Trackpad http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3211

  • Trackpad click not as sensitive after service

Hi there, just had the logic board replaced in my mid-2010 MBP, and I find now that the trackpad click is not as sensitive, it works about 90% of the time, but the 10% is quite frustrating. Even with the audible click, sometimes it doesn't register, and I need to hold it with more pressure. Is this something that they could have modified accidentally during re-construction of the mac body after logic board replacement?

There are times when I can play with my 3gs for long periods of time without a problem.  Other times, it only takes a few seconds for the screen to stop responding.  Pressing the sleep (?) button on the top right a couple of times (on, off) brings it back on...  but only for a few seconds.  I'm wondering if iCloud has anything to do with this....  and/or the network connection.  I was thinking perhaps it fails when I'm no edge and not WiFi.

  • Trackpad click not working properly

Hey, I've had my Macbook 1.83ghz for like 6 or 7 months now and I haven't had any major problems up until now.
The Trackpad clicker has recently began to 'stick', it's hard to explain but it doesn't respond as it used to and it takes quite a heavy push now for it to respond, so it's pretty much impossible for me to drag files and work in Photoshop.
I did quite a bit of Googling to try and find similar problems but I only found this solution of using paper to fix it, which didn't work for me.
I noticed a recent post here concerning the recent Battery Update, I thought that might have been the problem I had but it seems it's not as I've just taken on the battery whilst running through the cable. Still getting the problem.
    Thanks

    Hi,
The best way is to phone AppleCare and ask (UK tel. 0870-876-0753), but otherwise, take it in to any authorised Apple repair centre.
Here's the UK retail store details. Try a search for Apple authorised re-sellers throughout the UK too, assuming that's where you are. All the official Apple retail stores, and all the officially authorised re-sellers (I think) can do the repair for you under warranty.
If you're outside the UK, search the Apple site for info for your area.
    Cheers,

  • Glass trackpad : click not working

    Hi,
today the clicking function (tapping works fine) of my mutitouch glass trackpad stopped working. I wasn't updating anything or doing anything risky of some sort... Just typing in Word.
In Windows XP (boot camp), the click doesn't work either. (but tapping works fine also)
I did a reset of the SMC firmware, without any result...
I was wondering if someone had this issue? Or do you think this is a hardware failure and should i take it to an Apple store?
    many thanks,
    Bert

Sorry for my English, I'm from Spain.
I think that the preferences of your trackpad have been desconfigurated. Try to go to the system preferences panel, and just select all the options that you had previously to the problem, if it doesn't work, you can use your guarantee or you Apple care protection plan.
You can also visit an apple store.
I hope your problem would be solved.

  • Trackpad clicks not registering in XP on Unibody MacBook

I bought a MacBook 2.4 GHz yesterday, and have installed XP SP3 on it with the latest Boot Camp drivers, including the Trackpad Update (without which the trackpad was completely useless).
In MacOS, the trackpad works well, with clicks being detected anywhere on the bottom half of the pad. But in XP, the only way to get a click to be detected reliably is to press the very centre of the trackpad. Clicking the bottom left corner (where your thumb naturally ends up) results in maybe 1 click in 5 being detected. This makes the trackpad pretty much useless under XP for dragging, as you are holding the centre of the pad and then run out of room to move your fingers.
I haven't seen any other reports of this problem, but I have to say it is a deal-breaker for me - if the primary interface device is any less than perfect, a PC is unusable.
Has anyone else seen a trackpad which is unresponsive to clicks in XP, but fine in MacOS? The fact that it works in MacOS suggests it's a driver issue rather than a problem with my hardware.

Just a little more information: I reset PRAM yesterday to see how long it would take for the "lost click" problem to recur. The reset cleared up the problem, but the issue recurred within a couple of hours of very intermittent use (that is, a few minutes of use, sleep, wake, a few minutes of use, repeat).

  • Trackpad click not working after Mountain Lion update

I updated computer in question, a 2009 MacBook, to Mountain Lion today, and it appeared to work.  It installed, then I was prompted with a log-in screen. I entered my Apple ID and password, but was unable to click go. Easily hit enter instead; this worked.  The next screen, however is a Terms and Conditions one with only the options of "Back" and "Next." I cannot click on either of these.  The mouse moves around perfectly when I use the track pad, but I am unable to choose anything by clicking and therefore cannot get past this screen and to my computer. Any help?? Thank you!

According to the Dymo Technical Support page for that model:

    - QR and PDF options have been added to the available barcode list.
    - Minor bugs were fixed.
    - Support for Mac OS® v10.8 Mountain Lion
Have you installed the driver version 8.4.1 as mentioned above?
    Hope this helps

  • My trackpad click is not working correctly

    Hello
My trackpad click not working very well. the click only work when press in the centre area of the trackpad which make it difficult to click so now I enable tap touch to make click. I got used to touch tap but if you want to drag something it is annoying.
anyway, is my trackpad is damaged or software problems ?
how can I fix it ?
I don't have Apple insurance Can I bring it to the Apple store ? Can I buy AppleCare now ?
    I got the latest MacBook

If your MacBook was bought less than 12 months ago it's still under the 1 year warranty. You can only buy the AppleCare warranty extension before the original warranty runs out.

One thing that you can try is installing a 'fresh' version of OS X Lion. Boot into your Recovery partition (holding down the command and R keys whilst booting) and elect to install OS X from the Recovery screen. You need not erase your hard drive and you should not lose any of your data.
Oh, and just as a precaution, I would use Disk Utility, once you're in Recovery mode, to verify your hard drive before trying to install the OS again.

  • My trackpad is not working it moves the arrow but I cannot click on anything or drag anything

My trackpad is not working on my MacBook pro. I can get the arrow to move but I cannot open files or drag files when I click.

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to bare metal from any of them.) Don’t erase the Lion recovery partition, if present.

  • I am not able to access my Ipad as it says that icloud has not been backed up and it does not accept when i click ok

i am not able access my ipad as it says that the icloud has not been backed up. it also does not accept when i click ok.

Try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
When it's rebooted you can force a backup via Settings > iCloud

Just downloaded FACETIME on my 4yr. olf Imac running Snow Leopard. When making a call to my friend's Imac all works correctly going both ways. When my wife calls me via Facetime from her Ipad, I cannot click on "accept"- not there? When called by the Imac (newest), the "accept" or "reject" radio button appears for me to click and connect. On my wife's Ipad the two radio buttons always appear when a call actiivates Facetime and comes on?
There is nothing I can find in "Preferences" in Facetime to turn that on or off. I suspect it has to do with having a more current operating system; that the "controls" are in the operating system? [I'm guessing] It's frustrating getting Facebook calls from several friends on Ipads! Any ideas...VFP

I suspect it has to do with not having a more current operating system
Exactly, what Apple is doing is leveraging new features only on newer OS X versions to force you to upgrade OS X to 10.7 or later.
What they don't tell you is 10.7 or later will NOT run your PowerPC based software, some of it you can't get Intel versions like for perfectly working printers, scanners and games etc. So it can be a very expensive OS X upgrade to 10.7 or later with third party software.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also they don't tell you is the risk in bricking your machine if the update goes badly, so you have to have AppleCare in case that occurs so it's on them to fix it. Else your paying money to replace the logicboard or buying a new machine prematurely.
A four year old machine can't have AppleCare, it's only good for 3 years from date of purchase new.
Your machine came with a boot hard drive, it's usually got about 4-5 years of life on it, then it needs to be replaced.
Also they don't tell you the newer OS X version has more abilities and features that causes your machine to slow down in performance, especially on older machines.
Also they implement new, idotic and extremely fustrating new user interface features in a arbitrary "you take it or leave it" manner with little or no fall back method.
So upgrading OS X is a gamble on older machines that otherwise would likely work perfectly fine for the next 5 years if one didn't need to have to mess with it.
Since Snow Leopard has slightly over 25% OS X version market share, your still good for security updates etc for the next few years if you just want to stay where your at and be happy.
OS X 10.4/10.5 need to upgrade, 10.6.8 ok still
The Lions are, well, not so welcome due to Scott Forstall retard UI issues, OS X Mavericks 10.9 is likely going to fix things a bit better.
But basically what is occuring is Apple is trying to force a faster hardware upgrade cycle with the more expensive products by leveraging features on the smaller devices that expire sooner.
Apple is a hardware company that leverages whatever it can to get you to buy more hardware, it's why they are as rich as they are.

  • My trackpad does not allow me to click/highlight copy a section of text

I used to be able to click then while holding down my finger highlight an area of text to either copy and paste or to search. Not any more! Also my trackpad will not allow me to click hold and move things. Very frustrating! I do not want to have to use a mouse.

Go to System Preferences>TrackPad and try toggling the trackpad setting and changed that they are correct.

  • Trackpad click bar not working correctly after getting a keyboard replacement.

I just got my whole keyboard replaced two days ago due to a sticking "m" problem on my 2008 macbook pro.  They didn't replace my trackpad, but now, it seems that my trackpad clicker will only respond if I apply a lot of pressure to the middle of the upper edge of the bar.  If I click anywhere else on the bar, the bar is completely unresponsive.  It makes clicking and dragging nearly impossible. I once had this problem when I had a bulging battery, but the battery is fine now.  Could something have happened when they replaced the keyboard? It can't be coincidence...  Is there a home remedy?  I know they will want to replace it if I take it in, and my old maching has been off warranty for a while now.

Either a misalignment or a cable is not properly connected.
Since they just "fixed" the keyboard I'd say take it back as they most likely caused this problem.
If you want to do it yourself, iFixit could be particularly useful:
