Trackpad cursor gets jumpy with external projector...

I have a circa 2010 MacBook. I have been using it for 3 years with various problems here and there, but I just can't figure this one out.
I am a teacher, and I moved to a new classroom this year. The room has an overhead projector, Epson, and I hook it up to my mac through the minidisplay adapter (same style as Thunderbolt).
I have been using external monitors and projectors with this machine and they have worked fine. But with this projector on this day, every time I plug in and turn it on, the cursor gets all buggy and starts flying all over the place. If I plug in with the projector off, it's fine. If I plug into my external monitor, it works fine. It's just this particular projector in this room.
I have restarted the computer, and I still have this problem. Not sure what else to do. It's not a trackpad issue... it's only with this projector. Thanks!

...it should say 4 GB of RAM of course...

  • Problem with external projectors

    Hello
I'm a teacher using a Macbook pro late 2011 with newly installed Mavericks. Since the update all projectors in my school show a very weak picture of my documents. Signs in word, Power Point, Pdfs are not legible anymore. I tried all kinds of changes in monitors, but with no success.
    Has anyone any suggestions?
The problem is consistent. It's the same if I use a new projector or an old one (we have different in different classrooms).

    Addendum:
This problem shows only with my Macbook Pro Late 2011. Desperate I have just bought a 2013 Macbook Pro and with this machine the projection works perfectly. Both computers have OSX Mavericks (the older Macbook Pro with a clean install).
    Any ideas anybody?

  • Microsoft Word redrawing with external projector is very annoying

    Hi:
I have a MacBook Pro with 2Ghz and 1.5 GB RAM. I usually connect a Sony projector as a second display to review documents in collaboration with others. While using MS Word (in Page View) with "Track Changes" enabled, the screen redraws every time I make a change on the document, which is very annoying.
This also happens when I am not connected to the projector (i.e. using the built-in display).
I am guessing this has something to do with processor speed, graphics card and/or the fact that Office is still not a Universal Binary application.
Does anyone know how I can minimize the annoying redrawing?
    Thanks,

  • 10.8.1 causing external projector to go to sleep

I rencently updated to Mac OS X 10.8.1 on my mid-2010 15" MacBook Pro and I'm experiencing an issue with external projectors going to sleep after just a few minutes of use.
I've been able to reproduce the issue with multiple projectors, multiple VGA cables, multiple Mini Display Port->VGA adapters and multiple MacBook Pros (both running 10.8.1).
I didn't experience the problem at any time prior to the 10.8.1 update, including while I was running 10.8(.0) - this issue is new to me since I upgraded to 10.8.1.
    Here's what happens:
I connect a projector to my MacBook Pro using a standard VGA cable and Mini Display Port->VGA adapter. I'm using the same cable and adapter that I've been using for over a year.
After 5-10 minutes of use, the projector turns off (or goes into standby mode). I've tried this with two different projectors and the behavior is the same for both. The Mac does not go sleep in any way, only the projector is affected.
It doesn't matter if I am mirroring or not mirroring my displays - it happens either way.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    -mike

Just a quick update - turns out the problem had nothing to do with my MacBook Pro, the Mini Display Port->VGA adapter, VGA cable, or project - it was a faulty uninteruptible power supply (UPS) that the projector(s) were plugged into. The UPS is faulty and is having frequent power blinks - which caused the projector(s) to turn off, then back on again...
    Thanks,

  • Data not getting bind with cursor

    Hi,
Database: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.6.0 - 64bit
    OS: Windows Server 2003
    Consider following procedure:
    Proc P1() as
    cursor c(in_par varchar2) is select distinct col1, col2 from Table1 where col3 = in_par;
    begin
    for rec_c in c('X') loop
    end loop;
    exception
    end;
Problem: In most of the execution, the value 'X' passed in cursor c get bind with col3 in where clause and get the desired result. However, in some cases, the value 'X' does not get bind with col3 in where clause. I don't know the steps to re-produce the issue, but it occurs once in a while.
On querying v$sql_bind_capture, i get 'NULL' in value_string whenever this problem occurs. Otherwise, I get 'X' in v$sql_bind_capture. No exception is thrown anytime.
What may cause miss of binding constant literal 'X' to cursor?

Have not seen this error before - PL/SQL not binding SQL statements containing PL/SQL variables, correctly. What at times happen is no bind at all due to name collision. Using the same name for a PL/SQL variable as a SQL column in the SQL statement and scope being such that with name resolution, the SQL column gets preference. This of course does not seem to be the case here.
What could be happening is that a null variable is being passed as the bind value.
You can also have a look at the Metalink/support.oracle.com for any notes or bugs on this behaviour. Knee-jerk reaction from my side that this is too a common issue to be an actual PL/SQL bug... (would have reared its head a long time ago)
In cases like this I like to make sanity checks - reduce the problem to its bare basics with a test case and see if that works. Then gradually increase its complexity and see when it brakes, if at all.

I'm trying to play a purchased DVD movie using a superdrive and apple tv with a projector - i just get a checkerboard pattern?  Help - 18 students are frustrated

I'm afraid this is by design.
You cannot Airplay Mirror a DVD using DVD Player - Apple block  screen mirroring of certain image data which might be protected.
I've a funny feeling Airplay mirroring can potentially be interecpted and decoded so someone could potentially copy the video stream (which would be poorer than DVD anyway).
    Try VLC Player:

  • Trackpad, Cursor issues

    MacBook Pro circa 12/2009  - 13"
Just started.... only left side of trackpad clicks - when I type in documents and email the cursor moves .. For example if I try to type "the dog eat the cat" --- it will come out differently each time but something like  " he god act the"
Also when I try to move the cursor to cut and paste - it picks up everything off the page
when try to scroll down a page it - copies everything
    alread reset PRAM
advice needed - trying to get this message was a great feat
    thank ouy

Hi, I believe I'm having the same problem as you, Zaby, with the jumpy keyboard / letters / unexpected insertion points. Creating any document on my 2008 MacBook, including in email, I'll be typing and after a dozen or so keystrokes, the letters randomly fly to a line somewhere above and the sentence continues there. Sometimes this overwrites previous sentences (argh!) and sometimes things are suddenly highlighted and overwritten, gone! Spontaneous combustion. (Apple Z restores but it's a horrendously frustrating process.) Then I have to go to the lines above and drag the middle of the sentence back to where it started. And repeat.
There's no discernable pattern. I tried making the lines very short because it happens somewhere into a line but this doesn't always work due to the randomness. Maddening!
My thumbs stay off the trackpad.
When I brought this problem to the Genius Bar, they pointed out that I had a "Crackpad" (which I had figured was normal wear and tear) and told me there's a quiet recall of the cracked keyboard/mouse/trackpad part. They said this could fix the problem. If not, the next step would be repairs to some cable beneath the keyboard costing $500 -- some kind of shorting between the trackpad, cursor and keys type deal.
So the top of the MacBook was made new again (which also fixed my "white key syndrome").
Problem with insertion points persists... up to now?
I've been reading the Forums for about an hour to find suggested solutions to this issue not costing $500. The problem is not so well documented (that's why I'm going into great detail). Aside from reinstalling SMS (?) and PRAM there was no consensus on why this happens or how to fix it. HOWEVER I just followed a suggestion to go into System Preferences and click "ignore random input" in the Trackpad section. I also slowed down the keystroke rate and the repeat rate in the Keyboard preference.
Suddenly I'm able to type this at my normal speed without the flying letters! I know this doesn't work for everyone and I'm quite skeptical that this will last more than an hour. But if the fix was that easy I'll be thrilled.
    cheers

  • How to stop sleep/hibernation with external display & lid down

What is the proper way to get my MBA to not sleep, hibernate, etc. when I have an external display attached and lid closed while watching a movie or webcast. In such a case I am not touching the mouse, trackpad, or keyboard.
I have bluetooth keyboard and usb wireless mouse attached.
I also disabled the sleep/poweroff options in the energy settings while watching.
The MBA still would go to sleep or something after 10 or 15 minutes of no agitation.
Also, the Monitor goes blank since their is not signal coming through to it.
Was this just not a use case that was thought through: Watch video stream with external monitor and lid closed? Make sure the MBA knows this scenario invalidates the powersave options????? And yes, the power was plugged.
    Thanks

Caffeine puts a little coffee cup icon at the top bar. Click to turn it off and on - it is on when the cup is dark, ie has coffee in it. However, this won't solve your problem - the MBA will still sleep with the lid closed. There are settings to allow use of an external monitor but what I did was download InsomniaX. This little free app keeps your computer from going to sleep when you close the lid. That way you can close the lid, walk down a hall or do something, then open the lid and keep working. Just don't forget it is on and leave the Mac too long or it will run out of battery.
Insomnia isn't in the App store, had to download it at http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/22211/insomniax

  • Difficulty in connecting external projector to Macbook Air

I have an external projector I'm connecting to my Macbook Air (OSX 10.7.2) via mini display port to VGA adapter.  With projector on and ad adapter plugged into the macbook air, I see the screen flash blue, but can't force the external dispaly to be recognized.  Under system preferences, displays, I am hitting detect displays, and still nothing.  I have gotten the plug-n-play capability to work before using the adapter, but even after system reboot, I can't get it to work.  Any suggestions?

    Hi vvarruunn,
In the display system preference pane, click the 'show displays in the menu bar'. This will put a monitor in your menu bar.. Can you see your external monitor listed here?

  • Mountin Lion has trouble with external monitors

Not so much a question as a shout-out. Since going to Mountain Lion, my pretty new (February this year) MacBook has been having no end of trouble with external monitors. I use it a lot with the clamshell closed with two different external monitors of two different sizes, one at home, one at work. It sometimes thinks the one is the other, or if I unplug the monitor in sleep, when I later open the clamshell, the screen stays black and I have to force a reboot with the power button. Never had these problems with exactly the same set-up in Lion. Sometimes it also refuses to find a connected monitor or projector, I have to pull the dangle and put it in again.

If memory serves, one of the 'flaws' with BM's hardware is that it will not convert on-the-fly.  So if your sequence doesn't match what the TV is accepting, you get black.
For example, my TV will not accept 1080p, only 1080i, so working in a 1080p sequence would produce no image for me as the BM will only output exactly what's in the sequence, it can't convert my 1080p/24 sequence into 1080i/30 for output.
Now I'd expect your TV would have no trouble accepting a 720p signal but, maybe the above data will lead you down a path of investigation.

  • Keynote transitions slow with lcd projector

When I connect my 2010 macbook pro to an lcd projector keynote stutters at times.  Most importantly, the slides that are timed to transition with music do not transition on time.  The longer the presentation plays the worse the time gets.
    Macbook pro with 8G ram
Intel 2 Duo Core 2.53 processors
Project saved and runs from the desktop.
    Same problem on multiple projectors
    using dvi apple adaptor
same results on battery power or ac/dc adaptor plugged in

I'm afraid this isn't much help, but I also experience this problem with a much older white macbook. I do a keynote  on the macbook, play it back through an external projector and all the transitions are visibly slower.
Keynote also exhibits drastic timing differences depending which computer a presentation is being run on.  For example a presentation created on my Intel iMac 2006 will run much faster than on my newer macbook.
It's almost as if keynote doesn't know about real time clocks.

  • External Projector for Slide presentation on iPhoto 09

I need assistance in using an external projector for a slide presentation of my pictures. I can not get the pictures to project. I can do Keynote presentations with no problems with the same settings. thank you for your help...

    Welcome to Apple Discussions Alejandro,
iPhoto does not support slideshow play back on a secondary display like keynote does. iPhoto always displays the slideshow on the primary display. There are a few ways you can get around this:
1.) Export your slideshow as a Quicktime Movie and play it in Quicktime or iTunes
-- File > Export > Slideshow -- Check off "Display" and "Automatically send slideshow to iTunes"
-- Once your slideshow (now a movie) is in iTunes you can move itunes to your second display (or projector) and then play
2.) Change the primary display from the computer display to the projector
-- You can tell your computer to display on the projector first by changing your display preferences
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301408#3
-- Go to Apple > System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement > Drag the small white bar from the current display (which is your computer) to the secondary display (which is your projector)
    -- Now play your slideshow
3.) Set your computer to use mirroring ( I don't like this option because you lose your primary display for the duration of the slideshow
    -- Go to Apple > System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement >Mirror
    -- Now play your slideshow
    Hope that helps!

  • How can I view an ibook on an external projector?

I am trying to project an ibook on an external projector. The projector will only display my desktop. Is there a setting to make this happen? I also have the same problem projecting a video from an external usb drive, and not sure how to solve this problem

Agreed — reading books on an iPhone or iPod is just too hard. The iPad is ideal for it, and so much more versatile than a Kindle or a Nook (but more expensive too, of course).
My wife made noises for several months about wanting an iPad to replace her creaky old Dell desktop computer, but I convinced her that was a bad idea: no real keyboard to type on, no familiar Windoze apps available, etc. etc. But she was crestfallen: she really seemed to like the idea of the iPad, even if she had to keep using the Dell. So a couple of weeks ago I took her to look at iPads, and I told her "Don't think of it as a computer. Think of it as a toy." Not in any disparaging sense, but in the sense of something to add pleasure to her life without needing to justify itself as a serious tool. That immediately convinced her to let me get her one (which I was going to do anyway, but this way she feels better about it!) She LOVES the iPad and, being a librarian, she's taken advantage of it to borrow e-books electronically from libraries and download free public-domain books from many available sources — things that are somewhat harder to do on a Mac. And she can read email, news, books, surf the web, and keep up with all her Facebook friends wherever she is, including places where she'd never bring a notebook computer, even a little MacBook Air. So she's still beating her head aganst the Dell in her home office, but at least now she has an alternative to it for the fun, relaxing stuff and can do it anywhere.
I also got an iPad myself, for much the same uses (except Facebook, which drives me nuts), and now my MBP spends a lot more of its time deskbound than it used to.

  • Creation of Business Partner with External BP #,ID type and Identifications

    Hi Group,
I have a query on creation of Business Partner with External BP #,ID type and Identification # (along with the Firstname,Lastname,Email, Phone & etc.,) things.
the thing is that I was using a BAPI called "BAPI_BUPA_FS_CREATE_FROM_DATA", to create a BP and I was not able to have an option available for these things (External BP #,ID type and Identification # ) along with that BAPI.
So please kindly let me know how these things can be fetched from a BAPI which can accomodate all the above things mentioned.
Please kindly let me know how it can be achieved.
    thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Vishnu.

    Hi Gerhard,
Infact this reply was very useful, but ,while using the BAPI "BAPI_IDENTIFICATION_ADD" while creating the Id type and Id #s, this BAPI was not enabling this.
I was trying to use this BAPI to create ID #, and it's desc, but, this BAPI was returning like "This BP # does not exist" (in some cases) and in some other cases, it is keeping quiet without giving any indication as whether the things have been updated or not... and also when I checked, things were not getting reflected.
your help would be very much appreciated.
    thanks & regards,
    vishnu.
