Trackpad doesn't respond since Mac OS 10.7.5 Supplementary Upgrade on Oct 10
Built-in trackpad functions erratically since software update of Mac OS Lion 10.7.5 Supplementary Upgrade. I have tried to reset the settings in System Preferences and restart. No change in behaviour The trackpad is ultra-sensitive, frames move when moving the cursor with one finger. click or left click function is difficult to work, almost like it gets stuck or won't respond. It keeps highlighting everything on its own.
I avoid the point and click with the fingers and gestures functions. Just use scroll and tracking.
I use a MacPro 4.1 with 4 Gb RAM Boot ROM v. MBP41.OOC1.800 SMC v. 1.28f3
After researching older questions and answers it came down to the battery. Sure enough my battery was warped on the inside and the outside. The inside warp presses on the underside of the trackpad and click bar causing all sorts of misadventure with the trackpad and click bar. So I answered my own questions.

thanks but unfortunately I don't recognise the things used in that article. my trackpad doesn't respond somtimes, most of the times it is working perfectly. when it is not responding it is not AC plugged in, nor are there big programms running. With Lion, all scanning is performed through Preview. Use Preview. -

You have some (major) issues.
Are you in Recovery Mode ? Used Option key or Command R to get there?
I would grab the ML installer ESD you saved and do a clean install on another drive and begin to rebuild to a new system.
You may or may not have TimeMachine but have backed up problem files.
Having a bootable backup clone of your system is a must.
Hard shutdowns will add more layers of problems and add to whatever there was before.
Generally there is not a need to use Disk Utility other than to repair permissions either before or after installing updates.
Have you:
tried with everything else unplugged so you don't have any external devices
tried with a safe boot
Why.
After any forced shutdown you should use ML Recovery and one Safe Boot on the first next boot from a working system. -
my macbook pro screen has froze. the background is white. there is a small box on the screen that reads: if an application doesn't respond for a while, select it's name and click Force Quit. the app is Finder. the cursor is a very colorful spinning wheel while inside the box and an arrow outside of it. I have tried using the command-opt-erase keys, nothing. please help!!
Restart the MacBook Pro. To do this, press Control, Command and Eject keys, or hold the Power button until the Mac turns off

since updating my desktop I can't access my iPhoto library i go to do the update it starts then doesn't respond.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Firefox opens, then doesn't respond. Can't reset. Fresh install doesn't fix it. Mac OSX
I was browsing the internet with Firefox when it froze, so I force quit. I open it but it immediately freezes/does the spinning wheel mouse cursor thing indefinitely, so I have to force quit it again.
I tried restarting and shutting down my Mac. Then I tried resetting Firefox, but it doesn't respond. I tried in Safe Mode, but it still immediately does the spinning wheel cursor. So then I tried doing a fresh reinstall, several times. But it still keeps having the same problem.
Help!
Edit. I don't think it could be a problem with my add ons, seeing as I've used the same ones for years and never had this problem.
One thing I did change a few days ago, is usually I let my Firefox History store things for ages, but I thought I'd free up RAM by changing these settings. I forget which settings I changed though, possibly changed something so it deletes history and and something else after shutting down each session.It seems I found a solution for my problem!
I went into 'Username/Library/Application Support/...' and deleted the Firefox folder with the Profile settings because it seemed to be the settings I changed that triggered the problem beforehand.
I then proceeded with trashing the application and the .dmg downloads, and doing a fresh install again. Firefox is now opening and working normally for me. (However, I do not know why changing my History settings in the first place, caused this problem.)
<u>PLEASE NOTE: if anyone else tries this, if you delete the whole folder you will lose all your saved bookmarks.</u> There is probably a folder within Profiles that you can copy and save to keep your bookmarks, but I'm not sure which one it is. -
I have a Mac Book Air and firefox froze and my trackpad does not respond what should I do?
On the top left corner when any new window is opened (the red, yellow, and green) the maximize, minimize and close buttons, the red button isn't active however a rectangle separate window opened up with just two options: Cancel and OK- the OK button is flashing blue for my pointer to click on, when I do it doesn't respond and I can't open a new window to firefox because it won't let me, I tried restarting my computer but it won't let me because that application is still running it says to close it first and than I can restart however it still does not respond, so whats going on?

This is driving me insane.
I have a MacBook, which still works pretty well apart from the fact that over the last few weeks the trackpad started not responding very well.
I have to hit very hard and it only works on the bottom right corner.
It responds to me moving my fingers over it, the problem only happens when clicking on something.
I would really appreciate any tips from any of you clever people out there.
ThanksDoes your MacBook have a removable battery?
If so, try removing the battery and running just on the power adapter. Don't do anything too important as the computer will power off if the power adapter comes loose! Just do this for a few minutes to see if your trackpad works any better.
If your battery isn't removable, run your hand over the bottom of the computer - or run a level over it if you have one - to see if it's flat.
In either case, it's possible your battery has swollen and is applying pressure on the connection for the trackpad, which in turn means the trackpad won't work as expected.

HT1338 My "Notes" application on my Mac doesn't respond when I open it.
A day ago, I was looking up something on spotlight and saw a peculiar entry from notes I thought I deleted. I clicked on it and a small box with the note in it appeared. It stopped resonding when I tried to edit the text or close it or anything. Now everytime I open notes, that same little note box(not the full sized one) comes up and doesn't respond. Every single time I open notes. I am forced to "force quit" every time. I have tried restarting, shutting down, nothing sems to work. Please help. This is getting very frustrating very quickly.
I wrote this "User Tip" to deal with reparing Notes accounts, not notes themselves per se.
But if you either keep all the notes you want in iCloud, or have no notes worth saving and only want to repair the application, this tip may help.
I do not recommend using this tip if you have notes in the Notes app that are not in iCloud but that you need to keep.

If the panic is recurrent, I suggest you uninstall them, one at a time, according to the developers' instructions, to see whether you can determine which is at fault. A conflict between modifications may be involved. Reboot and test after each uninstallation.
Back up all data before making any changes. -

Hi since updating to safari 5.1.1 after using the right mouse click safari doesn't respond to any mouseclick anymore. I can use the keyboard and select menus but that is it. Reinstalled Safari, resetted safari and removed all preferences, caches and disabled all extensions etc. nothing helped. Any suggestions here?

I was triggered that another user on the same system did not have the problem I scanned my user library folder: The problem was an old safari extender plugin in my Contextual Menu Items folder. After removal all is working again :-)

2 this problem has occured...iPod Touch screen only glows (doesn't respond)
OK, so this is how the story goes. I got my lovely iPod Touch (8gb) in December 09. It's been totally wonderful...until yesterday afternoon, that is. I pushed the home button in order to get back to the home screen from the music, when the iPod froze! I tried to navigate, but alas, the screen did not wish to respond. I decided to shut it off, and restart it, as is recommended by Apple, but when it got to the slide to power off screen, it did absolutely nothing! I pushed the volume buttons a bit, and saw, through the transparent dark screen, the volume adjust, but still I had no response when touching the touch screen. I then restored the iPod. After a lot of trying to remember my backup password, I had my iPod back up and running! Or did I? Just now, I was exiting out of an app, when the iPod froze. AGAIN! Now I've got it hooked up to my computer, but I don't wish to restore it just yet. Is there anything I can do to attempt to get it working before I restore it again (since that fix didn't last long)? Also, I am running the newest version of the iPod software, and this has only happened since the update, never before.
same as mine. suddenly it won't connect to my itunes. and when i turn it on after i turn it off, suddenly the logo just appear glowing and doesn't respond to any button i touch. how come?

Sound like a trackpad problem and not an iPhoto one. Have you asked in the forum dedicated to the Mac model you're using or is this an add on trackpad?
