Trackpad: hold right click +drag

Just bought a Magic Trackpad and am struggling with this.
I need to be able to hold down a right / secondary click and drag a box over stuff to select it. Doing this by holding your little finger down on the secondary click and trying to drag your first finger around is not fun at all. I have worked out how to instigate right click with two fingers, however it doesn't seem possible to keep it engaged and drag over an area, like a mouse.
Any ideas?

Hi
would you mind telling me how do you do the right click drag? been trying to get this to work in games but can't.
i can only drag items using 1 finger dragging.

  • X220 touchpad, Can't right click drag with more than one stroke

    1. Put cursor over a file or folder on the desktop.
    2. Hold the lower right corner of the touchpad (embedded right button)
    3. Drag with another finger (either hand)
    4. Lift off the dragging finger to reposition, then touch again, and it lets go of the icon, returning it to the original position.  (This means I'm not accidentally lifting off the right button. If I was doing that, the icon would remain where I moved it to.
There are 3 ways to keep it from doing this:
    a. Use the right hard button above the pad.
    b. Press the touchpad button below the bend along the lower edge (As close to the edge as possible.
    c. Insulate the button pressing finger from the pad with folded paper, or press with a pencil eraser.
b and c above show that it's the presence of a touch in the active area above the lower edge bend,  This touch, plus another touch being initiated in any other area of the pad interrupts the drag operation.
The "tap and drag" settings have no effect on this.
I just received the machine today after a 1 month order wait, and this is frustating enough to make me want to send it back.  As-is, it's nearly impossible to do right-click moves using the right pad button.  It becomes a 2-handed operation, one to hold the upper right button, and the other to do the dragging.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    ok.
Control panel, "Programs and Features"   Uninstalled Thinkpad Untranav Utility  and driver items.
Rebooted.  Confirmed that these applications ar eno longer present.
Checked Device Manager, under Mice and Pointing Devices.  All it shows there is "PS/2 compatible Mouse"
    Results:
    1. Right click with touchpad right switch now generates a right click.
    2. Left, and right click drags with the touchpad lower switches now work, but there is a tendency for the finger touch to move the cursor off target before the press is completed.
    Suggestion to Synaptics.
When pressing one of the touchpad switches, there will always be a finger touch on the touchpad sensing surface first, which will probably have a negative effect.
To avoid this, any initial touch in the lower left or right areas should be ignored, and any cursor motion generated by that touch should be undone as soon as the switch closes.
    Downloaded latest driver and utility.
Installing driver (15.3.6.0 / 6hgx40ww) first, and restart.
    Result for driver reinstall:
    1. Right click with touchpad right switch works
    2. Right click multiple swipe drag works.
    3. Left click drag works, but ONLY if the clicking finger is touching the active area of the pad.  If you click too close to the edge, or use an object to press the switch, then the switch closure itself is not recognized.  The same issue exists for right clicks.
Actually the behavior seems to be reversed now,  You MUST have a finger touch in the areas that prevented movement earlier to register the click event,  If you press the switch too high, or too low, or with an object, such as pencil eraser, then there's no click.
So, with the new driver. I get acceptable dragging action as long as my finger isn't too far out of position.
However, doing things like dragging a scrollbar with these buttons is still very frustrating, since the cursor tends to move off target before the switch closes.  This can be avoided by bringing the finger down onto the pad very quickly, to close the switch before any movement takes place.  A slow press will almost always move the cursor before the click.
    Installing the utility (7VGQ14WW) next.
Still works, and the initial lag when trying to drag things is now gone.
So, aside for the cursor to move while clicking, I'd say the problem was fixed by the new driver.
Thanks for the fast responses, and to the driver devs for fixing it this quickly.

  • My wireless usb mouse freezes or gets stuck on right click/drag

My wireless usb mouse has been getting stuck on right click and/or drag, or the right click just freezes and becomes unusable. Sometimes, my mouse jumps erratically and opens anything that the arrow crosses. I can't use my trackpad because it's broken, but the trackpad itself isn't causing any problems. My system preferences for mouse and trackpad are all fine. My bluetooth is turned off in accordance with the recommendations of people having similar problems. My anti-virus programs don't detect a macro virus or any other problems. Only restarting in safe mode temporarily solves the problem. Does anybody know how to fix this?
Some people have suggested this may be caused by a swollen battery. However, my laptop is a somewhat more recent model and I don't have a portable/removable battery, so I can't solve the problem by taking it out and back in as some people have. Other suggestions?
    Thanks!

Update: I've also tried repairing permissions and that doesn't help.
I've experimented with other mouses just to see if there'd be a difference, but the problem is definitely with the computer. All plug-in or wireless mouses have the same results. Right click still won't work.

  • Right click drag 'n' drop

    Dear everyone,
I am trying to create a Swing GUI where the right mouse button has a drag 'n' drop function for a particular component.
Does anyone know how I create a DragGestureRecognizer for a right drag mouse event rather than a left drag mouse event
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
You can determinate which mouse buttons has been pressed using the method isPopupTrigger () of the classMouseEvent.
The mouseDragged method is always called when any mouse button has been pressed an the mouse moves while the button is still pressed. In the method you can filter out the events that comes from the left mouse button using the method (isPopupTrigger) I mentioned above.
    Hope it helps

  • Interactive drag and drop (right clicks)

I'm trying to create interactive training videos that utilize
right-clicks as well as right-click drag and drops. I hope i'm just
missing something. It's important for our training to include these
    abilities. Any suggestions?

I'm sorry to hear you don't view Captivate useful. However,
your post confuses me just a bit.
What is the intent? If you want to just rant, I guess that's
fine. But we are all users here just trying to help one another
out. If you feel Adobe might be reading and making decisions based
on user posts, you would be wrong. They seldom look in here,
leaving it pretty much to us. This isn't a slam against them or
even a bad thing. Just the nature of peer-to-peer support.
I would like to address some of your assertions though.
    You said:
The lack of proper right click functionality really makes
Captivate a non starter for serious application training
    simulations.
Fair enough. Yes, I agree right mouse click is an issue. But
there are workarounds. Perhaps if the developers hear enough folks
ask about it, it will change.
As does the lack of mouseover transitions.
I'm not sure what you mean. Captivate does have mouseover
effects. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what you mean by "mouseover
transition". Just last night I posted an example to my site in
order to ask another user if this is what was meant. Take a look at
it and see if you disagree that this constitutes a "mouseover
    transition".
    Click
    here to see example
As does the lack of proper keypress transitions.
Not sure what you mean with that.
As does the lack of proper text entry handling.
Or that either. I use Text Entry boxes all the time with no
issues. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
As does the fact that you can't properly pause a slide (keep
your browser minimised for long enough, and you'll complete the
course without having to do anything!)
Hmmm, I've never seen a movie that has been paused by an
interactive object just take off on its own again and simply
complete with no intervention. Are you talking about a
    demonstration and not a simulation?
    Cheers... Rick
    Hi Rick
I DO find Captivate useful - just really frustrating when it
comes to developing interactive tutorial simulations. And what I
find most frustrating is that it's a really really good product -
but that doesn't quite do what I need it to do
    Hence the rant .....
    And what I meant was:
    1. Right click - probably the biggest gripe. Yes, I know that
there are a few workarounds, but they all seem to require you to
start coding, or work in some situations and not others; if I'm
releasing a sim to 10000 people with varying setups I need to be
    absolutely certain that it'll work.
How many applications do you know that don't use right click?
So Captivate must have full right click interactions (and by that I
mean - anything you can do with the left button you can do with the
    right button).
    2. Mouseover stuff. That example of yours looks pretty
impressive - not quite what I had in mind though - I really mean
transitions on mouseover to next slide, back to start of slide, to
slide x, etc etc. - example: to activate a submenu by hovering over
it, or to correctly show the change in a button's appearance when
you move your mouse over it.
I know you can do this with a rollover image - at least, you
could if it didn't crash my PC when I tried to open the image
    - but that's so time consuming to have to manually
grab and overlay an image for every mouseover. So again, I really
need an 'anything you can do with a click you can do with a hover'
    interaction.
    3. Proper keypress interactions. I need to be able to detect
a keypress, regardless of where the mouse pointer is or where the
focus is. I know there's a partial solution involving text entry
boxes and jiggling with the shortcut key, but there are pitfalls if
the focus isn't in the text box. What I really need is an
interaction that covers the entire slide and simply detects a
keypress and gives me the same navigation options as a click.
    4. Text entry handling. Yes, there's the text box
interaction, if you don't mind it not really looking like your
    actual application
    - but where's the pre entry text? Most apps will
squirt some default (preselected and editable) text into text boxes
    - as far as I know Captivate won't - unless you klutz it using an
image - which you then can't edit.
And when you do edit the text in the box, the highlight
colours don't match system settings. And you can't get the text to
wrap properly according to the size of the text box - it sort of
scrolls horizontally. And the multiple correct answers is good, but
it won't give any leeway to spelling errors - other other sim
builders will allow you to allow, say, 6 out of 8 characters as
being enough to count as 'correct'. Oh, and there should be an
option for Captivate to monitor typing and immediately spot the
correct entry's been typed without waiting for an exit key or
    click.
    5. I might be about to admit I was wrong here ....
    - my understanding was that you couldn't keep a
slide active for more than 3600 (?) seconds in a simulation, and
that if the slide reached its maximum time it automatically went to
the next one? Have to admit I haven't really experimented with that
    side of things.
So are you saying that if you have a clickbox interaction
that moves to the next slide, and the user doesn't click it, and
you don't have a playbar, then the slide will just stay there. For
ever? If so, that does make Captivate a bit more useful to me!
Apologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick on that one.
I know all this may sound like minor niggles, but it's very
important to me that my sims look and behave as close as possible
to the original app as possible. I'm more relaxed about demos -
which is where I'm using Cap at the moment. In comparison to the
sim builders you get with LMS systems it looks fantastic and is
miles more intuitive - it's just that they tend to have all the
interactions I really need - and Cap doesn't.
If they can get what I've mentioned above into Cap 3 - or,
hope against hope, 2.1 - I'll be abandoning traditional sim
    builders.

  • Is there a way to undo the Ctrl+click+drag BD expansion after the fact?

I had an internet help make some simple code additions for me and in the process expanded my BD to a degree that it is very bothersome to work on.  She left me with a large gap in the center of my code, then saved it.  Is there a method that does the opposite of Ctrl+right click+drag?
I basically need to move half of a state machine loop(s) and all included VIs on that half of the BD at once?  Don't want to manually move 20+ cases worth of VIs individually if I can help it.
Now the real question - Why does an intern have a bigger screen than I do?!?!?

ctrl+u  can be tuned in the LabVIEW ini to provide better results.  I have not found a magical setting for it yet.  (My BDs don't usually get too bad)  but I think a reasonable BD Clean-up is achievable with some persistance (try it- undo -reset- try it again)  Take snapshots along the way.  Perhaps even try 1 setting Optomized vertically and reset to optomized Horizontally and clean again.  (That technique seams to hold the most promise IMHO.)
Now, What were you doing giving a chunk of code to an intern WITHOUT a style guide requirement and supervision?
see post 17 here  You are not alone

  • Trackpad gestures to double-click/drag to select whole words?

Using a mouse in a TextEdit document, I can double-click a word to select it at once. Double-click/drag alters the selection word-at-a-time. Similarly, triple- and quadruple- clicks might have other handy functions.
What trackpad gestures allow me to do the same word-at-a-time selection?

D'oh! There are mouse buttons in the lower left and right corners of the Magic Pad! So to word-at-a-time select (with the right hand), use the thumb to click-then-hold the lower left mouse button, and the index finger to adjust the selection.

My right click is not working and producing the context menu or ability to drag files and folders. I just spoke with a phone support person and we checked that all the mouse/trackpad options for right click were correct and checked.
Please can you help with this.
It has only just happened in the last few days.
    Many thanks

You might want to update your profile so that we can see what model iMac you have and what version of OSX you're running.
For this question, it might help to know if you're dealing with a trackpad, Magic Mouse, or something else?
(Until your issue's resolved, you can Control-Left Click to get the right click functionality).

  • 2011 17" MBP TrackPad Left and Right Click Intermittent in Win7/64

A few weeks ago I installed Win7 Pro 64 via Bootcamp in a new 2011 MBP 17 (2.3gig).   Since day one the trackpad left and right click buttons have been intermittent in Windows only.
For example, while surfing the web some clicks work, others don't, often have to repeat clicks to get it to work, then next time it will work the first time. This is not just a Safari problem, it happens in every program including the Finder.
I think it is a driver issue and Apple needs to get on the ball and fix the problem and send out an update (yes I have the latest version).
I saw where a guy had written drivers to address the problems with the low quality Apple drivers.  His is called TrackPad+++ but it is bloated and I'd rather not install it nor should have to.
Anyone else having this problem or found a good solution?   BTW an external USB mouse works great.

After a little bit of looking around i found my answer! Use the BootCamp Control Panel that you can call up by clicking on the boot camp icon in the notifications panel. There one can enable tap to click, dragging, and right click.

  • Right-click/select on trackpad not working

    Hi
Basically the "right click" option on my trackpad has stopped working, I can't highlight sections of text or images, can't click and drag any items and can't resize windows or images. I'm going crazy does anyone know what's wrong? I called Apple and they didn't really help with anything, I've reset my preferences to default but no luck!
I can scroll with two/three/four fingers fine it's just when I want to click with two that nothing happens.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

01/04/14 Update:  I've updated all SW (BIOS, UltraNav Driver and Utility, latest Win7 updates) but right button still won't work.  Ran the PC Doctor diags for the UltraNav and it shows the right button highlighted constantly (as opposed to it blinking on/off when button is processed like the the left button does).

  • How do I "Right Click" on the Trackpad?

I know this is a "newbie" question but what is the motion on the trackpad for a "right click". Please bear with me, this is my first Mac laptop. Thanks!

    Hi,
two options: hold CNTRL while doing a click.
The preferred one is to use a two-finger tap for right-click. You have to enable that feature via System preferences -> Mouse/Trackpad. This is where you also see all the small movies about multi-touch options for the trackpad.

  • My left and right click on the trackpad don't work.

From reading a number of the posts here, it would seem that trackpads not working is an issue that Apple may need to look into. I have personally resorted to using a mouse and the trackpad as a touchpad. For all the finger gestures, my trackpad works fine, but it doesn't respond at all to the left or right click options. It clicks audibly, but neither responds. There were some posts about playing around with a PRAM (whatever that may be), but surely there must be a more definitive solution. Does anyone know if this is an issue that is being addressed by Apple or does anyone know of a permanent solution? I don't mind continue to use the external mouse, but it seems a shame that the trackpad malfunctions and there is no apparent solution; that's unlike an Apple product. Your input would be appreciated.

    This fixed it :
    "Solution:
With the laptop open, turn it on to it's side. Repeatedly click the trackpad with a firm, but not excessive amount of force. Put the laptop on the other side and repeat.
I can't explain why this works. Perhaps some amount of debris or dust has built up under there ? I went from not being able to click-drag without an excessive amount of pressure, back to a normal amount of pressure after doing this."
