Trackpad input AFTER fingers are removed (static?)

My problem is NOT a trackpad that does not respond for a few seconds.
My problem IS that very often the pointer on the screen moves away from where I just placed it with the trackpad, usually in the opposite direction and all the way across the screen. This movement can range from subtle to completely eratic. Most of the time the trackpad is useless due to this movement.
I suspect it may be a static issue but i have no real solutions to this. Resetting the trackpad (palm method) seems to have very little effect. The iScroll2 software I use has no effect installed or uninstalled.
Any Ideas?
Thanks
Powerbook G4 FW 800   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

For some people, I'm saying this is particularly you though, the way in which they have their hand(s) casues the point to behave irraticly. Often it's a case of having another part of their hand touching the trackpad while they try to move the pointer with their finger. Another cause is the other hand touching the trackpad. This is far rarer though does hapen.
It's a matter of style and you might want to confirm that it's not a problem with yours.
Personally I don't like using trackpad because I tend to use my index finger slightly rotated so I use it at about 45º which causes irritation.

  • CUA issue; after roles are removed systems assigned to users remain?

    Hello,
I've had this specific issue with CUA for some time, but haven't needed to try and resolve until now.
    The problem is this:
    - after security roles for a user have been removed for an entire system, in the system tab entries remain.
    - this results in the user account remaining in the child system, even though there are no security roles assigned.
I have tried removing system entries once all roles are removed, however after saving the changes I see that the systems still exist.
So, can anyone comment on why this happens? Is there an SAP note to resolve this?
    Appreciate the feedback.

    Thanks Julius.
My intention is not to delete users. What I'm expecting to happen is that after I remove all the roles assigned to user for a specific child system, that user should not exist in the child system anymore.
If you delete the system assignment for a child system, A deletion of the user in that system will happen.
    Paul Vipond wrote:
This is the way it has worked for many child systems, but not all. For me it's specifically my production systems where a user account remains after all the roles have been removed.
In dev/test systems I've removed all roles assigned to a user and after saving their account no longer exists in those dev/test systems.
    Make sense?
If that is so, that is a bug in your dev/test system. I suggest to open an incident wiht SAP then.
It should work like in a standalone system.... Removing all roles there will never lead to a deletion of that user!

  • OS X Server 3.0.1 and OS X Mavericks: Managed Preferences not Removing on Mac After They are Removed from Server

I just upgraded my server to OS X Server 3.0.1 and am testing changing some managed preferences on my MacBook Air with OS X Mavericks.  Initially from the upgrade the security & privacy and users & groups is disabled.  I changed the settings in profile manager, and the push was successful.  I then restarted my macbook air, and after logging in, it stalls and says "Updating Managed Preferences..."  it stalls for about one minute and then logs in.  Those preferences that I allowed in Profile Manager are still grayed out as if the preferences are not updating.  Has anyone see this or have any idea how to troubleshoot?
    Thank you.

    Dnar,
Thanks for the follow up bit about using the smbutil statshares command.  I used that and could confirm that I am also able to force it to connect with smb2.  Oddly though, in the stat share info it still says "AUTO_NEGOTIATE"
                                  SMB_NEGOTIATE                 AUTO_NEGOTIATE
                                  SMB_VERSION                   SMB_2.1
But maybe that just means something else and not the fact that it did not auto negotiate to SMB.  I guess for now this will be what I have to do to use smb2.
I think in this case the AUTO_NEGOTIATE merely means it will auto negotiate a connection between SMB1, SMB2, and (from your data) also SMB2.1 this would have nothing to do with auto negotiating between SMB2 and AFP, which from this thread appears broken.
I also would like to thank Brandon for the tip about smbutil statshares, I had been looking for a simple way to tell what version of SMB was being used to test my NAS.
For everyone's benefit, it would appear from the above that whilst Apple advertise Mavericks as using SMB2 they have gone as far as implementing SMB2.1 and merely list it only as SMB2 for simplicity and due to the fact there is not a huge different between SMB2 and SMB2.1

  • Macbook doesn't restore memory to flash memory after files are removed

For every flash memory device i use (flash drive, mp3 player, etc.), when i remove files from them to the trash, the memory is still being used on the device. For example, when i tried to take a song off my mp3 player, it allowed it but the remaining memory was the same as before. i experimented by moving every song out of the device so it was empty but the memory was still being used. Does anyone know how to fix this because i am at the point that i can no longer used devices because it claims to be full.

This happens to me too. I use the program Show Hidden Files
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/showhiddenfiles.html
The songs or whatever you are deleting is going into the .trashes folder on the drive or mp3 player. Just delete the .trashes folder. It will make a new one every time you delete something though. I hope this helps.

  • How can I remove updated apps on app store page after they are updated and say open?

HOW CAN I REMOVE UPDATED APPS FROM UPDATE PAGE ON IPAD3 IOS7 AFTER THEY ARE UPDATED AND SAY OPEN?

    You don't.
Apple has instituted auto updating , this is a feature for users to check what has updated recently.
The open button opens the app.
It will keep a rolling list, about 20-3O days back.

I have owned an ipad for a few months and taken photos without synching to Photstream.  Having just done this I now see photos are removed from iCloud after 30 days.  Are these recoverable or lost for good?

    Please see the following:
    iCloud- Photo Stream FAQ
    iCloud- Photo Stream limits
The 30 day limit, as I understand it, prevails after you reach one of the prevailing number limits. I've yet to reach one of those limits over the past few years and my PhotoStream is still intact.
However, it's a good idea to move your photos into iPhoto which is your on-disk library. And, this library can be backed up locally, thus, preserving your photos.

Yes, both Photos and Camera use the same data in Camera Roll.

  • Ignore accidental trackpad input?

Like a lot of people, I first thought something was not working until I discovered the Ignore accidental trackpad input checkbox. After experimenting, I find it's better to have it ON than Off, but there's that pause after an accidental input before being able to do something.
Is there some key combination that will return control to me, or is there a sensitivity setting somewhere that I haven't found? Or do I just have to be patient and keep my fat fingers off until it's ready?
    Thanks,
MacBook 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Dual USB iBook, G3 PowerBook, ruby iMac (Windows-free home since 1984)

From my own experience, I would say that it's not a pause, but rather that it is ignoring the sides.
As soon as you go to the middle of the trackpad, it starts moving-so you don't have to be patient, but you do have to aim for the middle.

  • Suggestion: Improved "Accidental Trackpad Input"

I never had a problem with the trackpad on my PowerBook G3/Firewire, but when I got the 15" PowerBook G4 (hi-res), text editing became extremely frustrating.
I like using the trackpad tapping for clicking, so I have that enabled, but the new trackpad is just too close to my hands when I type, so I get "accidental taps" all over the place while typing.
Of course the OS has the "ignore accidental trackpad input" setting and enabling it has saved my sanity as far as text editing is concerned. Unfortunately I find that it does a little bit too much, in that it pretty much ignores the trackpad as long as you are typing.
I found the SideTrack trackpad driver and tried it for a few minutes. Setting the top left and right corners to do nothing on taps proved to be a perfect solution for ignoring accidental taps in those areas. The only downside to this trackpad driver is that it doesn't know how to do two-finger scrolling, which I have come to like very much. The author of SideTrack is investigating the possibility of implementing two-finger scrolling and I would love to pay the shareware fee once that feature is also working.
Meanwhile, I'm wondering if it would be possible for Apple to implement something like "ignore the top left and right corners of the trackpad for tapping" option in the standard driver?

    the cursor jumps everywhere
Hmm... In fact, the cursor doesn't jump everywhere. When it jumps, it jumps to a specific, predictable place: it moves to the exact spot in the text where you last left your trackpad/mouse pointer.
When you are typing and you use the trackpad (or a mouse) to move the cursor, make sure to move the trackpad/mouse pointer either out of or below the text field within which you are working so that when you do brush the trackpad the trackpad pointer will move either to the end of a line or to the end of the text field.
I would also suggest that you look into a replacement trackpad driver called SideTrack. In the SideTrack preference pane in System Preferences, there is a filtering feature called 'Ignore trackpad while typing,' which is much more useful than the PB's 'Ignore accidental trackpad input.' This filter is adjusted with a slider that enables you to set the duration of trackpad filtering that occurs after each keystroke. You can set the slider to anywhere between 200 ms and 2 seconds. (SideTrack adds quite a few additional features to the trackpad, as well: corner taps to perform software actions and/or actions that you normally would only be able to perform with a six button mouse; vertical and horizontal scrolling on the trackpad's edges, and more. Definitely worth the $15 shareware fee.)
    Good luck.

  • Anyone know a trick to remove static from paper??

Not an ID question but more of a printing question that has really created a nightmare at work today!!  Anyone know of any little tricks to remove static from glossy text paper so pages dont stick when printing?  When I opened up the paper packets, you could hear the cracking from the static bigtime.  I fanned all sides of the paper after putting into the printer and sheet are still sticking really bad!  Any thoughts??  Unfortunately just touching the paper like you would another person to get the shock out doesnt work :-(

Eugene's spent some time in the pressroom - a very concise explanation of how to handle paper.
If you've never done this before with gloss text weight, limit yourself to 1/2" lifts.

  • Disable "Ignore accidental trackpad input"

Tiger and Leopard included a setting, "Ignore accidental trackpad input" which I would always UNCHECK, but this has been omitted from Snow Leopard according to this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3009
Is there a command-line utility or file to edit or similar hack to effectively DISABLE "Ignore accidental trackpad input"?
That is, as one who happens to type with wrists raised, I'm finding that I often must tap three or more times for a click to register after typing (or press harder for the mechanical/audible click) on a MacBookPro5,3/unibody. (Subsequent clicks without typing again are fine, but those first few clicks getting ignored really disrupt the thought-process.)
Yes, I realize that the software is doing what most people would prefer, but I'd rather be the one to decide what's best for me.
    Thanks!

One step closer to an OS native setting...
The programming documentation indicates that this should be a simple matter of toggling the default value for: setWantsRestingTouches.
    See "Resting Touches" section of:
    http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/EventOverv iew/HandlingTouchEvents/HandlingTouchEvents.html
Apparently, this particular method would require each application to call that method.
Ideally, there should be an OS level toggle to override the default.
Hoping that there might be a straight-forward translation of such methods, I'm running with the following for now:
    via Terminal shell:
defaults write -g com.apple.trackpad.setWantsRestingTouches -bool TRUE
(However, you can set just about any key to any value with the 'defaults' command, so lack of an error doesn't necessarily mean that this will work as intended.)
Anyone have further insight to this type of approach? Thanks.

  • Keyboard and trackpad freeze after being idle for a few minutes

I have a early 2008 MBP and just today the keyboard and trackpad freeze after not using it for a few minutes.  I was at work when it happened.  I plugged it in and started doing something else and a few minutes later came back and i couldn't move the mouse or do anything with the keyboard, but processes were still running.  For example, I have a fan speed app that sits in the toolbar, and it was still showing current fan speed.  So I restarted it, and it did it again.  So the next time it happened, I closed the lid and opened it up and it fixed it.  It's happened several times now after a few minutes of non use and I just close the lid and it fixes it.  Also, there was a period when I was using my computer for a couple of hours non stop and it didn't have a problem.  Only when I'm not touching the keyboard or trackpad does it do it.  since this keeps happening i have verified the disk in disk utility, done a hardware reset with cmd+opt+p+r, ran through system profiler to see if there were any problems with no results, and it still does it.  Anyone have any ideas?
It should be noted that not only does the battery not work for more than about 2 minutes, the left I/O board appears to be dying.  The power chord takes a considerable amount of wiggling and adjusting before it finds a place where it will actually charge. The audio out and the USB on that side are the same way. So I am aware of that problem. Also, I have had to take out the right side fan multiple times and disassemble and oil the bearing because it's going bad, which requires taking the top plate off, but I haven't had to do that for over 6 months. In my mind if the problem was caused by taking the top plate off, that would fry the entire top plate, which happened once when a technitian at a local company took the computer apart for a waranty repair.  All of these problems considered, I don't think they would have anything to do with the fact that the mouse and keyboard suddenly won't work after about 5-10 minutes of sitting idle. I have done nothing different since yesterday that would explain why it does this.
Also, I can't do anything with the install disk because the CD drive is dead.  But that's mostly because it was a piece of garbage to begin with.
    Any Ideas would be helpful.

After doing some more digging I was watching processes in Activity Monitor to see if I could see what process is failing.  I think the problem with with Chrome. It only happened when Chrome was open. And since then I reinstalled it and the problem has so far gone away.  So, I think the problems is solved.

  • GRRR - MuVo won't play songs after it's removed from USB P

:robotmad:Just bought a Nomad MuVo for a X-mas gift for my daughter, and I can't get the songs to play after I've removed the player from the USB Port. WMA songs seem to download to player OK, as I can play them from the MuVo through the jukebox software that was included with the MuVo. However, as soon as I take it out of the computer and turn it on, the light quickly goes from green to red as if there are no files there. Windows Explorer shows that they ARE. I always use the "safely remove hardware" function. I've tried to solve this by:
    Reformatting the player</LI>
Removing the "settings.dat" file from the player</LI>
    Downloading/installing latest firmware</LI>
    Downloading/installing latest driver</LI>
None of the above has changed anything.
If it matters, the WMA files I'm trying to download were purchased from WalMart online.
    <PLEASE HELP!

Jason - I could kiss you!!! The Windows Media software worked!!!!
Call yourself Santa because the only thing my daughter wanted for X-mas was an MP3 player and gift cards for music to download online. The MuVo was the 2nd player I bought -first one was an unnamed cool-looking (but so far entirely useless and supportless) one from EBay. I've been wasting endless hours since November trying to get one or the other to work with downloaded DRM-protected WMA files. I don't know what I would've done without you!!!
However, I'm irritated that the Creative website inferred that if I downloaded the latest software/firmware, it would allow me to use DRM songs with their software. I would think that a ton of people are going to have this issue, and the Creative info tells you that you have to use the enclosed software. This issue should really be prominently posted in the troubleshooting section.

Hold your finger on the word for a little time - after a second or so, a magnifying view appears showing the few letters around your finger, with a cursor. Roll your finger to move the cursor to just in front of the letter you want to fix. Then let your finger go. You can now backspace to delete and replace the incorrect letter.
