  • Tried to reinstall Tiger and now trackpad isn't working

I am getting ready to sell my iBook G4 and got a copy of Tiger to do a wipe and install for the new user. When I first put in the DVD the installation screen started up with a picture of a mouse and batteries. I don't have an external mouse (and never have) and managed to bypass the screen to find that the DVD wasn't recognizing the trackpad. I rebooted into the old OSX and the mouse worked fine. So I tried again to boot from the Tiger DVD and still, mouse isn't recognized. I go through the install anyway thinking that it might fix it. But now the trackpad isn't recognized at all. I've tried resetting the PRAM (I think, I did ctlopt+pr). And I have also done the shiftctl+optpower button (although I might not have done it correctly, I just pressed and held all buttons in sequence for a second and then let go, is that right?). Still it doesn't work. What else should I do? It was working fine under the old Tiger, but the new install isn't. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I just fixed the problem by running software update and updating to 10.4.11

  • Middle part of the trackpad isn't working

    Hi,
So earlier, I dropped ONE drop of water on my trackpad, and now the middle part, around a centimeter and a half, doesn't work. For example, if I drag my finger from the top to the bottom of the trackpad, the pointer would go down, then stop at that part, and then go down again once its passed it. Tap to click doesn't work there, but pressing it does, which kind of makes me think that its a minor problem. The problem started earlier, but then it went away after I wiped the water off and it went back to normal, and then I put it to sleep and went out. Now I'm back home and the problem is back, and it won't go away. The first time I opened it after I came back I restarted my laptop. It was still there, so I shut it down and got it back again, then the mouse was literally spazzing and I couldn't do anything. So I just put it to sleep and researched on my phone and tried to clean the sides with a thin piece of paper to absorb all the moisture. I'm not sure if it properly helped, but the spazzing stopped and now it's just the middle part not working. However, when I do press on the middle part for a number of times, it goes spazzing again like crazy. This is extremely frustrating because I'm a student and I won't be able to afford the fix with my own money, plus I don't live in the US so there's no Apple Care here. I also edit videos and pictures A LOT on my laptop and have gotten very very comfortable with the trackpad, so just using a mouse won't work too well for me.
Is there any way to fix this? I have Macbook Pro Mid 2012, OSX Yosemity.
I'm currently just using the top and bottom part of my trackpad. There are no problems with anything else, though. Everything else works fine.

FIrst rule out if it is a software problem. If a Reset doesn't work, it might be a hardware problem that requires replacement (if still under warranty) or a fix.
    Try to Reset your device.
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears (ignore the Slide to Power Off that shows up first).

  • My trackpad won't work and is selecting everything it passes by

my trackpad isn't working at all

Captfred got it. If you really like the tap to drag (which I do) just remember all you need to do is a) train yourself to gently apply your finger to the pad abd b) when you don't, tap again to undo the dragging.

    Hello jwilliams112,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your trackpad is not functioning as you would expect only while using Microsoft Word on your MacBook Pro. In this situation, I would suggest reading over and working through the If the issue occurs in one application only section in the attached article for troubleshooting information.

  • Flex 2-15 Keyboard/Trackpad no longer working

Basically the keyboard/trackpad are no longer working for my lapop (Flex 2-15).
Here's the run down of what I know:
    1) Function keys still work such as brightness up or down and turning off the screen.
    2) In device manager there is the yellow traigle with an exclamation point for the trackpad, but the keyboard driver seems functioning properly.
    3) On the mouse driver it says Code 10, timed out.
    4) I've tried uninstalling the mouse driver and restarting to see if windows would install automatically, and the driver comes back, but with the same code 10.
    5) Touch screen works fine.
    6) Running Windows 8.1.
    7) Tried restoring from factory settings and the issue is still here.
    8) USB mouse and keyboard work perfectly fine.
    9) Tried switching modes to see if keyboard/trackpad was disabled, but no luck there either.
Greatly appreciate some help here as this is beyond frustrating since I've only had this laptop for a little over a month and can no longer return it. Also Lenovo doesn't support anything besides hardware and wants $70-140 to troubleshoot this issue.
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

They were trying to charge me for a "Software failure" which apparently isn't covered. I'm almost positive it's driver issues of some sort that they needed update seeing as the function keys work on the keyboard but the rest dont because the trackpad doesn't work.
But if they're going to try and charge me for a software issue I might as well get them to replace the keyboard under warrenty just to rule that out. Sucks it's only been a little over a month.
I purchased the laptop from Newegg.com since it was the cheapest I could find. They only do a 30-day refund/replacement unless you paid for extra insurance (which I never do since usually I can figure out most simple laptop issues).
I usually just turn off this laptop as it's not my main one, but one I'm going to lend to my brother. And one day the keyboard was working fine and then the next day I turned it on I had issues. Worked fine for the few weeks leading up to it. I've updated windows a few times, but none of the updates were keyboard related and factory restoring didn't work so I'm at a loss.

  • Certain hardware on Black Macbook isn't working?

I'm having a problem with my Black Macbook it's running on Snow Leopard. That laptop is being bootccamp & it's running on Windows 7 too. Currently i'm facing a problem with the Keyboard, Sound, Bluetooth & trackpad. All of the mentioned above isn't working help???

Does it work for changing screen brightness (F1, F2)?  If not then go System Preferences ⇾ Keyboard ⇾ Keyboard and ensure that 'Use F1, F2 etc as function keys' is turned off, i.e. unticked.

  • My trackpad is not working properly. It doesn't respond very well and only a very small area of it actually works. What can I do?

    Hi! Can anyone help?
    This is driving me insane.
I have a MacBook, which still works pretty well apart from the fact that over the last few weeks the trackpad started not responding very well.
I have to hit very hard and it only works on the bottom right corner.
It responds to me moving my fingers over it, the problem only happens when clicking on something.
I would really appreciate any tips from any of you clever people out there.
    Thanks

Does your MacBook have a removable battery?
If so, try removing the battery and running just on the power adapter. Don't do anything too important as the computer will power off if the power adapter comes loose! Just do this for a few minutes to see if your trackpad works any better.
If your battery isn't removable, run your hand over the bottom of the computer - or run a level over it if you have one - to see if it's flat.
In either case, it's possible your battery has swollen and is applying pressure on the connection for the trackpad, which in turn means the trackpad won't work as expected.

  • The trackpad isn't clicking?

Well my trackpad isn't clicking. I can drag. But can't click. I even used the mouse and still no clicking. When I realized my trackpad's button was broken. But why isn't the mouse working. I used 2 different mouse. Please help.

Ok, good to know. Backing up will be easy cause I've only got about 40GB of files and a 1TB external hard drive.

  • Secondary click isn't working!

I'm using a MacBook Pro Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013 and the secondary click, even though enabled on the trackpad system preferences, isn't working.
Anyone who has been dealing with the same problem or has any idea how to solve it? The only way how to make it work seems to me by pressing ctrl+click, which has turned out be quite annoying everytime I need it...
    Thanks!

I'm appreciating this discussion. I've been on 10.7.5 for several months (late adopter) and only started having Mighty Mouse problems a couple of days ago.
Like Dave, my Wacom tablet is working just fine. (Well, it got a little erratic yesterday--lost its sense of orientation and I thought I might need to recalibrate--but I rebooted the system and it got its brains back.)
The Mighty Mouse, however, continues to only respond reliably to the left click.
I did have more problems. The scroll would only work sometimes, and then only down page (not up again)--"trackball cleaning" (unplugging and rolling it around on paper) seemed not to produce results but did fix that problem.
The right click is still a nothing, and I need it. I've checked all settings under both "mouse" and "universal access." (Wacom pen right-clicks great, as usual. Good thing I have multiple input devices.)
I'm downloading the Overdrive software, and if that doesn't work I may go get a Logitech mouse.

  • Blackberry Curve 8520 - Trackpad/Keyboard not working ! :(

    Carrier:  Rogers
Apps and free space: I only have the apps that came with the phone, and I have 1 theme downloaded.
Basically my trackpad/keyboard isn't working, I've pulled the battery out and put it back in. I've restored it (with the backup file of course).
Please help! I really need  my phone for tomorrow!
    Thanks so much!

I just recieved a replacement 8520 from rogers 2 days ago for a not responding keyboard. 2 days later the track pad on the replacement device stopped working. I cant scroll around on the screen but i i can click with the track pad. i have figured out some key board short cut to get to my bbm and text messages. is it just the track pad that doesnt work or the keyboard as well? i can pass the short cuts along if they will help

  • Keyboard & Trackpad don't work

The keyboard and trackpad do not work on my 13" Macbook. I've attached a usb keyboard and mouse to get functionality. So far I've repaired permissions, reset pram and smc all with no effect on the keyboard and trackpad. Any ideas?

Your absolutely correct! I took it to the apple store today and they fixed it in less than 5 hours. Thankfully, I still have a year left on applecare - it would have cost $186

  • Keyboard and trackpad are not working, Keyboard and trackpad are not working

I'm using MBP 15" late 2008 with Maverick OS. A couple of days ago, the internal keyboard and trackpad are not working at all. I did all the troubleshooting. I even reformat it; installing the snow leopard and re-installing the maverick but no good result. I believe there's no problem with my keyboard because i can still do PRAM on my lappy. Everytime i'm booting up my MBP, it always looking for bluetooth trackpad and keyboard. I have not used those bluetooth peripherals from day 1 i've started using MBP. I just read on the internet about the same problem has happened on MBP 13" retina and APPLE fixed it by updating the software. I wish Apple will also do something for the old MBP to fix the intermal keyboard and trackpad problem.
