Trackpad  MacBook Pro Out of Control

For the second time in a year, my trackpad on my MacBook Pro has gone bonkers.  It moves by itself, opens applications, refuses to respond to touch, makes the whole computer unusable.  The last time it happened (October, 2013) they replaced the trackpad.  This time, I was advised, by Apple Support on the phone, to try two different restarts, which managed to crash the entire computer.  Took it in for service, where they erased the drive.  Fortunately, I had back-up and was able to restore the computer to its still-with-problems trackpad.  Though I kept hearing, "Wow, this never happens," I now find that there are literally dozens and dozens of people reporting the problem all over the place.  Anybody have a clue how to get this fixed, once and for all?  Right now, I have to head back to the Apple Store--again--to try to get the original problem.  Only one hint for people with similar problem:  a Mouse DOES work, as long as you don't it the trackpad, even accidentally.

Does your MacBook Pro have a removable battery? This behavior is often seen if the battery has swollen and is pressing up against the cable for the trackpad.
Even if your MBP doesn't have a removable battery, it would be worth bringing it in and asking them to remove the battery and test the trackpad without the battery present to see if it's still incredibly erratic.

  • How do connect to wifi so I can use my MacBook Pro out of office

How do I connect to wifi so to use my MacBook Pro out of the office

Depends on the WiFi source.   Download Firefox from http://www.mozilla.com as some WiFi routers only let you login via Firefox.
Have an cat-5 or cat-6 ethernet cable handy, as some hotels provide WiFi between rooms in a hotel, but do not broadcast on a frequency that you can pickup
with your Mac, but rather give you a direct connection to their router in the room.
Some places require you download Boingo and subscribe to Boingo to get on their service.
For the rest, you should be able to get the protocol, network name, username, and password for connecting your Mac from the provider.  Ones with no password will automatically appear in the Airport menu which looks like *.  The ones with a password may show up there, or only work if you Connect to Other... from that menu.   That menu may be gray or it may be black.  If there is a lock next to the network name, you'll need a password and protocol to connect.
Macs support WPA2, WEP, TKIP connections via WiFi.
WEP aren't very secure.  WPA2 are much more secure.

Every time I plug in my headphones into my Macbook Pro, my volume control buttons don't work. Even after I unplug my headphones they don't work, they get stuck on the level of volume it was at when I plugged in the headphones. I can control the volume if I go to system preferences and do it that way, but that is such a pain. Also, in order to get the buttons to work again I have to completely restart my computer which is also a pain! What should I do, or can do, to fix the problem?

  • New MacBook Pro Out of Application Memory

I just spent over $2,500 on a top-of-the-line 13" MacBook Pro, including 16 GB of memory, thinking it would solve my memory problems. So I wasn't thrilled when I got an "Out of Application Memory" error message today. I started shutting down programs, but the error message wouldn't go away. So I rebooted my computer and opened just a couple programs. It quickly froze, with the same error.
Can anyone give me some clues for fixing this problem? I installed a lot of software yesterday, mostly programs from Adobe's Creative Suite. However, when I look at Activity Monitor, the biggest memory hogs by far are Finder and kernel_task. What's kernel_task, and why is Finder such a memory hog? I was having problems with it earlier.

Sorry, I got cut off. I came back to post the solution.
I was able to see someone at the Genius Bar, though I didn't have an appointment. He examined my laptop and focused on something I actually noticed some time ago - when you open Finder, the folder "All My Files" is open by default. I discovered a few days ago, that that folder bogs things down for some reason, so I got in the habit of switching to a different folder.
Anyway, he said there's a file somewhere on my computer that's causing problems; it eats up memory. So he deleted All My Files from the Finder choices so I'll no longer access that file...unless I happen to stumble over the folder it's in.
As I find time, I'll try and track the offending file down.

  • 2012 Mountain Lion Macbook Pro screen brightness control disappear

Hi everyone, MY macbook pro bought in 2013 but it is a mid 2012 cMBP 15 inch, it don't have any problem but until recently, the screen brightness control just disappear, I don't have any os x update, still using 10.8.3 version, and I searched the web and most people will just reset the NVRAM by hold the cmdoptionP+R when in the start up screen and I do that too but the screen brightness control just won't come out and the F1 and F2 won't function neither, but the keyboard light key do function & if I press the Fn + F1 or F2 it will has a alert sound which show that the F1 & F2 don't have problem but the special function printe on them(screen brightness control) won't work!
    WHy?
    I need yr help!!!!

    JohnnyChin95,
reïnstalling OS X will probably be the only real solution. Will your house have Internet before your warranty expires? If not, then it would probably be better to send it to Apple, even though there would be a long wait to get it back; you’ve paid for the warranty in your purchase price, so why not make use of it? (You might also want to consider purchasing an AppleCare plan; you can do so any time before your original warranty expires.) Alternatively, do you know anyone with Internet access who would be willing to let you download OS X onto your MacBook Pro at their home?
To my knowledge, all of the original MacBook Pros are manufactured in China; I don’t know where in China, though. If you received a box that has a sticker with your MacBook Pro’s serial number, Ethernet MAC address, Wi-Fi MAC address, &c., and all of that information matches what’s in your MacBook Pro, then that’s probably a good sign that you have an original Apple product.
In my case, I have a relatively slow 3½ Mb/s downstream DSL connection, so it took about five hours for me to download Mavericks. If your Internet speed will be faster, then your download time should be proportionally shorter.

  • Apple TV messed up Macbook Pro, Keyboard volume controls won't work.

I can't get my Keyboard Volume controls to work on my macbook pro, Apple TV messed it up. This isn't an issue with disabling the remote control infrared receiver. When I want to turn my volume up or down, I have to go to system prefrences and change the volume that way. It's annoying and a big waste of time. Please help me before I throw this computer against the wall.
    Thank You!!

I've got an extremely similar problem. Spillage on the keyboard. Unknown, what it was.
To start with it was dead, no power up.
Then it dried out. There was still a bit of battery power left, and the mouse and track pad worked for a few minutes then it all froze.
So I shut the lid. I left it like that, because I couldnt switch it off.
Much later, opened it up again and all windows opened up, all info was correct,
I was advised to try wireless mouse and keyboard, but you have to get in there before it freezes again.
The battery was charging normally as well.
I made the decision to let the battery die completely and then switch it on again, but sure enough when I did this, it ignored any re-boot command and that's that. Dead as a do-do.
So, without being a computer whizz kid, I presume, it's off to the Apple store for a sizeable bill.
Unless someone else has a cunning plan ????????
I would love to hear it !!!!!!

  • How to get my macbook pro out of VGA mode

I plugged my new Macbook Pro into a VGA adapter to do a slideshow on a projector screen, and after i was finnished, my mac is still in VGA mode on the lcd screen - is a awkward view mode.  Does anyone know how to revert back to a normal viewing mode?  Even after restarting the macbook, it remains in the mode for being connected to a vga cord.  thank you.

Safe Mode uses a simple display mode and bypasses the stored settings. It can be used to get out of situations where you set the resolution or configuration wrong.
Hold down Shift as you start up.
It will run a pass of "Repair Disk", which takes several minutes.
Then it will come up with minimal extensions loaded and default display settings.
Provide your User_id and password and log in.
Change the displays prefs to something boring.
Be certain to close the pref pane and Save changes.
    Restart.

  • What do I do with dead macbook pro out of waranty?

I don't w where to take my anger. And I don't know what to do with my frustrations. It's difficult to find an email adress to someone in Apple who can help, so now I will try and post my story here to see if anyone have any suggestions.
In october 2007 I bought a MacBook Pro 15". It ran perfectly, until it died a few years later, of course after waranty ran out. I was in the middle of exams, I lost a lot of my notes in the computercrash so I didn't have time to take it anywhere or do anything. My boyfriend took it to the local dealer and was informed that it was a dead motherboard - I already suspected it but tried everything recomended for a black screen. The computer turns on, somtimes chime, the light goes on, fan starts running, the cd spins, but totally black screen. The dealer said it was out of warenty, and I had to pay myself, so I borrowed a computer and bought a new mac as soon as I could - this time with apple care 3 years!
Now we are in a situation where we really need a second mac so I remembered I had the dead computer lying in a drawer. I took it out and looked online, and was happy to see that this is a known problem caused by the Nvida Grafics card. So I called apple, and they told me that I was right. This problem is known and has been covered for 4 years since purchase. Apparantly an email should have been sent to everyone with a registered model, but I never recived an email - I am very sure I would have noticed since I lost an expenssive computer as a student! That covereaged, agreed by Apple and Nvida ran out for me 3 months ago. On phone support they told me I could try and contact Nvida for this problem! But I bought an Apple computer?
Basically I have a dead computer who died from a problem Apple and Nvida aknowlged. I checked online when it died, I asked the local dealer and at that time there was notinh to do. So is it my fault I haven't looked it up since? I DID register it and what is the point if Apple don't email custumors that things have changed and there are new options?
The Apple support in Denmark told me I had 3 options. Take it to court, try and ask Nvida (even though Apple bought the components apparantly custumors are responsible for chasing coverage of them) or I could pay for a new motherboard myself. Is that really all I can do? Is there somewhere in Apple I can take this or is court really the only way to communicate??
    Hope some can help.

    Denmark

I have a simple answer for you, but you are not going to like it.
Do Not Buy another Apple computer or any other Apple products.
You are IMHO completely correct in that Apple should either repair all of these computer that they put the NVidia card in no matter when it fails. In fact IMHO all of these computer should of been recalled when Apple found out about the bad graphics card. Auto manufacturers can't get away with this type of thing, mainly because when a defect is discovered most people stop buying their products and they are forced to have a recall to fix what is wrong on cars already sold.
There is nothing wrong with a PC and with most PC notebooks from any manufacturer you can get parts for them on either the used market or leftovers from when a particular model was discontinued. You can not buy major parts for Apple computers except from Apple and they do not sell them to the general public.
    Good Luck.

  • Macbook Pro Out of Range Refresh Rate

I have a Macbook pro with a Rocketfish MiniDisplay Port to HDMI adaptor connected to an HP2311X monitor which is recognized but the Macbook states that the input signal is out of range wanting 1920x1080 at 60 Hz. The Macbook is clearly the source of the problem. I have reset both the PRAM and SMC.
The values the monitor states it is receiving is this:
    H:68.2kHz V:61Hz"
What can I do to resolve this issue? Could the Rocketgfish adaptor be a source of the problem as well, or even the cable?

  • Macbook pro out of space

My macbook pro has 4 GB (2 slots with 2 GB each)  It says I am out of space.  The storage says most of it is taken with photos and home videos.  I don’t want to delete them and if I get an external drive it doesn’t save them in order or albums.  Any suggestions?

I'm going to ask the mods to move this to the macbook forum. I don't have a macbook, however I think you're getting RAM and harddrive memory confused.
RAM has slots that you put cards in and every device out there has a maximum amount that it can take.
Hard drive memory would be separate and it's the space you can use to store your data on.
You should have an icon on your desktop labeled 'macintosh HD' and if you right click and choose 'get info' it can show you how much room you have on the drive and how much you have available.

  • MacBook Pro out of RAM when nothing is running?

Okay so I have a brand new 13 inch non-retina MacBook Pro with a 2.9 GHz i7 and 4GB of RAM. I understand when I am running a game or FCPX why I would get close to or run out of RAM, but as I'm typing this, the only thing I have open is Google Chrome and Activity Monitor. I am using 3.99 out of 4.00 GB. I am planning on upgrading to 8GB soon, but is this normal? I have restarted and that doesn't help me. Here is a picture of Activity Monitor:

It most certainly is normal with Mavericks.  Please read this:

RAM usage under 10.9 id different than with priors OSX's.  Do install the additional 4 GB RAM but relax regarding the current usage.

  • Macbook Pro and Backlight control

I have a macbook pro 6,2 and I'm having problems getting the backlight control working.  I've installed pommed but it seems to be having trouble with this system.
When I run pommed -d, I get this (amongst other, I think, irrelevant info)...

I: DMI machine check: running on a MacBookPro6,2
    System: Linux 2.6.34-mbp x86_64

I've installed and loaded nvidia-bl and have the nvidia and nvidia-utils packages installed also.
Has anyone had success with this system or run into a similar problem?  I'm stumped and really wanting backlight control.

It seems there is another module which might work better with the 6-series:
