Trackpad Middle click or 3-finger click to open new browser tabs

I can't figure out how to use the "Middle-Click" feature of most browsers to open a new tab.
Can we not use a 3-finger click on links to open in a new tab? The only way I have found is by using a USB or Bluetooth mouse, or Command+Click. Too much work!
Is there a way to middle click, or 3-finger click on the new MBP?
thanks!

I almost didn't reply to this because you did in fact answer the question below, but thought that it might be good for you to take a different perspective you have on control/command+clicking being "no extra work".
Let's stop for a second and assume not everyone has the ability to use both of their hands! Perhaps from an accessibility perspective it would be extremely helpful to be able to do what most people can do with both hands seamlessly from the trackpad alone. I know a lot of people that purchase macs because of their great accessibility features. I still do not understand why Apple didn't implement a 3 or 4-finger click (****, even 5), it just doesn't make sense to leave that up to aftermarket developers.
Personally I don't have this problem, and I have yet to find a third party solution to it, including multiclutch. I want to be able to three finger click because I'm lazy and over the years of clicking it will save me time and effort. If you added up all the other "small" savings of time that I have implemented in my workflows, then I guarantee that it was worth taking the time to hunt for, learn, and use them.
UI experts will tell you that the excuse, "well, just learn to do it the way it is" is why they make the money they do. Just because you don't feel you need a feature doesn't mean that it's ridiculous that someone else would like to have it.
I will continue to search for an positive solution to this question, and when I find it, I will make sure I come back here and let everyone know.

• Middle-Clicking not opening Bookmarks in New Tab

Windows 7 just did an update that included a new mouse driver, and now, middle clicking on an entry in my Bookmarks menu does nothing, instead of opening the bookmark in a new tab. There's no driver rollback available, and no driver at the mouse's maker's website (Logitech M-100 Optical Mouse)
Middle Click still opens links in the open page in tabs as normal.

• Middle click to open window in foreground broken

I upgraded my Firefox recently to Version 16.0.1.
Since then my middle click button has not been working the same.
I open up multiple windows and in each window I open links and I used to do this by middle clicking on the link and it would open up the link in a tab in the current window I am working in.
Now when I middle click, it opens up the link in the primary/original window and not in the current window I am working in.
The only solution I have found is to hover over the link and open in the foreground tab.
I am using Tab Mix Plus version 0.4.0.3 and have uninstalled and re-installed already with no change...

Hi,
You can try to right-click and Reset the browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent value in about:config, or Toggle to True.
# In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
# Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.

The Config Descriptions add-on adds helpful source comments in about:config.
If problems persist, you can also Reset Firefox and start afresh.
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.

• I can no longer open a new browser tab by either clicking the + at the end of the last browser or by using the Ctrl key + T, how do I fix this?

I have uninstalled firefox and reinstalled firefox to try and solve this
issue, but it has not fixed the issue. To open a new tab I must right click
any current page link to get a new browser tab and then navigate to a new web address. This is a recent issue that just started happening and I can't figure out what happened or what got disabled. Please help me fix this.

Try uninstalling the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.

• Why has right click to open new tab become disabled?

SINCE UPDATING FIREFOX:
RIGHT-CLICKING TO OPEN NEW TABS DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE. HOW DO I REVERSE THIS???
AND
FIREFOX CRASHES VERY OFTEN NOW. HOW DO I STOP OR AT LEAST MINIMIZE FREQUENCY OF CRASHES???

Regarding the right-click context menu, which is the best description of the problem:
# Can no longer right-click links
# Open in New Tab is missing or grayed on the context menu
# Open in New Tab does nothing when selected
# Open in New Tab opens in the same tab when selected
Does the site make any difference or do you have this problem on all sites?
Sorry to hear about the crashes. When Firefox crashes, it usually records information about what was happening at that moment. You often will see the Mozilla Crash Reporter dialog come up. You can submit that data to Mozilla and share it with forum volunteers to see whether it points to the solution. Please check the last section of the support article "Firefox Crashes" for steps to get those crash report IDs, and then post some of the recent ones here.
If that's not possible, could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode.
If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.
If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
and OK the restart.
Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).
Any less crashy?

• Trackpad Middle click

I just updated the system a couple of minutes ago but now I found that the middle click in my macbook pro is activated. I can open and close links in new tabs at safari by clicking with the middle click but I would like to disable it.
I find it a bit annoying having to click in one edge of the trackpad. I loved the way it worked before, where I could click anywhere in the trackpad.

I forgot that about a year ago I installed a plugin to enhance the magic mouse capabilities. It seems that the programmers of this plugin launched an update which included some enhances to the trackpad. It allows to do a middle click and a lot of other functions.
Today when I turned on my mac snow leopard updated as well as this plugin.
So it is a problem with the plugin.
You guys should try it if you have magic mouse it's called http://magicprefs.com/ and it enhances A LOT the capabilities of the magic mouse.
Thanks for the help!

• Why does a new tab (middle click) in a new window open in the original window?

In FF 4 Beta 11 I open a new window, middle click a link in the new window, but the new tab opens on the original window.
Why doesn't it open in the new window?
Are there settings to alter this behaviour?

In 4.0 stable this problem still occurs. I have restarted in safe mode and all new tabs (middle click or right click new tab) open in the original window.

• Open link with middle click to a new tab goes back to original page when selected

Scenario:
I am on a page (eg. a google search) and middle click a link to open it in a new TAB. The page opens in an adjacent TAB. I may or may not open other links in the same way.
Problem:
As soon as I select anyone of these new TABS it automatically jumps back one page history, eg. back to the google search page in this example.
Comments:
This was happening on my last PC and I have just got a new one. The problem was not there and now it seems to be back. Could it be a setting that is getting sync'd across from my online profile?

• How can I enable the center mouse click to open and close tabs in Firefox and Chrome?

I have a MacBook Pro Model A1261 purchased in 2009. On my other mac at work (and my PC) I can center click to open a link in a new tab while in Chrome or FireFox, and also to close a tab by clicking on it in the tabs at the top. I am using an external USB mouse on my MacBook Pro and when I click the center scroll wheel it brings up the dashboard. I looked in the settings but wasn't able to find a way to change that setting for the center button to open and close tabs in my web browser. Is there a way? Please help!

• Opening New Browser window for click event on an image

hi all,
I want someone to help me out solving the problem of opening
a new browser window on the mouse click event of an image or a
button etc.... The new window would contain the datagrid details
from the main window, but in an expanded form. If at all there is a
solution, I even want to know whether there is anyway for sizing
the poped up window, because I dont want the new poped up window to
cover the entire screen.
For getting better idea of my problem, the best example I
could give is the popup window that appears when we click on the
preview button while posting the message to the forum.
Someone please do help me out in this regard.
Thanks,
amar.

I'd definitely try to use a Flex popup... but the
flash.net.navigateToURL method is a simple way to open a popup
window in a new browser. You can pass any data needed by the new
page using the URLRequest and/or URLVariables. The URL you navigate
to could, of course, be another Flex application if necessary. I
use this only when I need to open a popup window on another site,
or an HTML formatter report or something similar.
Concerning yourself with the size of the popup window may be
a bad design choice also. I, for example, have my browser
configured to open all popups in a new tab regardless of sizing
constraints imposed by the designer. If it is absolutely necessary
for you to have control over the size of your popup window, you
should follow the advice given by others and use a Flex
popup.
