Trackpad not sending mouseUp on tap?

I have a problem with the trackpad on my 17" MBP (2009, unibody). It's not consistent, but it is happening with increasing frequency. I normally have my trackpad set for click on tap (I hate how the whole pad moves for a physical button-click, plus the clicking noise has always driven me bonkers).
Maybe six months ago, I noticed that tap-clicks were not always releasing, like it wasn't always sending a mouseUp event after a tap. It doesn't show as if it were a trackpad drag or a click-and--hold, but I'm not familiar enough with the trackpad drivers to know what it does with a mouseDown-only event on tapping (since a tap-drag or tap-click-and-hold requires two taps), so the behavior may be exactly that.
What actually happens is that it looks like the click didn't register, and when I tap again, it does one of two things. If the cursor hasn't moved since the first tap, it treats it as two separate clicks (not the same as a double-tap, which is a click-and-hold), so if it was clicking on a button, the button reacts as if clicked twice. If the cursor has moved since the first tap, it treats it as if I performed a drag action from the first click location to the second. So if I had, say, clicked in a text field, moved the cursor, then tapped again, it selects the text I've passed over instead of placing the insertion point where I clicked.
Again, this does not happen consistently, and it seems to vary from one app to another. Safari is where it seems to happen the most, but that may be only a perception based on the fact that I spend more time in Safari than any other app. It does not happen with a full physical click (the trackpad-button actually depressing and clicking), only with tap-clicks. It also does not happen with multi-finger taps, only single-finger taps.
My primary question, I guess, would be: does this seem to be more likely to be a software or hardware issue? If it's software, what would I need to patch/replace/update to fix it? If it's hardware, I guess a trip to the Genius Bar would be called for. (The MBP is still under AppleCare, so I'm not concerned about cost, but I don't want to be without a laptop for the duration of a repair cycle.)

Just to clarify, since you didn't specifically mention it: are you absolutely certain your table is 100%, completely total "flat"?  (IOW, use a metal ruler to check.  A wood ruler can bend or bow so you need something that you are 100% confident is true flat.)  Obviously, if the table is not perfectly flat, (i.e.: is bulging up,) then of course that could cause the Trackpad to wobble.  There are two rubber feet on the front of the Magic Trackpad, but the back under the batteries is "solid."  (See the description in second paragraphy in my response here, if you're not sure what I'm talking about.)  So it is more critical to have the table under the battery area of the Trackpad more "flat" than under the front of the Trackpad, but of course any unevenness in the table could cause a wobble..

  • Ipad not sending email, forced to reboot for changes to apply

    Hi all
I was asked to look at a friends two week old iPad today.
It was set up for them last week.
Initially the person setting it up tried to add a Gmail account but found that it would receive but not send emails (using the native email app).
They then decided to open an outlook.com account and use that instead of the gmail account.
This worked fine for two days but then error messages saying that the mail could not be sent started to pop up. It struck me that the speed with which the error message appeared after clicking send suggested that this was an iOS issue rather than the server rejecting anything.
I tried to check the imap/smtp settings in the "control panel" but they were not available (read:visible) so I deleted the account and entered the settings manually.
It still wouldn't send emails but this time it didn't throw up any error messages, instead it decided to just dump them in the outbox without notifying me that there was an issue.
Suspecting that the issue was with the ipad rather than the outlook servers, I decided to use my own smtp server details. Initially I tried using SSL but when this too failed I switched to the unsecure version on port 25.
It still wouldn't send anything so I eventually rebooted by holding down the power button until the power off slider appeared. On rebooting I discovered that I could now send emails.
TBH I have no idea if using the different SMTP server will be an issue if they ever want to check their outlook.com "sent mail" on line or not but i do have some questions
    1. Why was the reboot necessary? I had closed all open, unnecessary apps by double tapping the home button Might it have been the case that manually entering the outlook.com settings would have worked (given that the ideal set up would be to use the SSL outlook servers).
    2. Is this an unresolved iOS7 problem. Google searches resulted in many owners complaining that the iOS7 upgrade had rendered their email accounts incapable of sending emails. TBH the advice given ranged from perhaps sensible to plain daft.
    3. can anyone using outlook.com as their email provider on iOS7 confirm which smtp server, port, etc they use?
    4. Are there better email apps that actually give you detailed feedback?
i don't know when I will next get the chance to get my hands on their ipad again but I would rather that they were using the correct outgoing servers with encryption (rather than my unencrypted smtp server).
    Thanks in advance

    Hi again Neil.
Your extra info now to me means that it appears to be problem at the client end!
I hope you don't mind me asking a few questions ....
Is she a regular BT Broadband user with a normal BTinternet email address ? Does she use secondary email addresses ?
Do you know if she can happily email other people ? If not - it could be an account problem which may last a few days ....
If you don't wish to provide the complete bounce message you received, could you perhaps email me the detail (emailing me using my shortcuts). Also pehaps you could ask your client to email me via my shortcuts, and see what happens and I'll take a look at replying to see what happens.
The user on shentel.net domain she's been trying to email, did she ever manage to send any emails initially ? It could be the destination user having a problem.
The mods do monitor these forums, but there are a lot of posts to go through of course ......

  • Can not send SMS text message.

Hi, I'm a BlackBerry user for 4 years now and this is the first time that I have a problem with SMS text messaging. My precious BB is a Q10.
The problem is that I can receive SMS messages but I can not answer and I can not send messages. When I tap the 'send' icon or press Enter nothing happens. My message dissapears and i can not see in the upper window, below the message that I've previously receive and I wanted to aswer for.
Also, I can compose SMS message, but when I press Enter or tap send, nothing happens. No message in the hub, or in the text messages folder.
I've rebooted the device, reloaded the OS, but didn't help.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
With a strong carrier network signal (e.g., not merely WiFi), I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (step 1 should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive
    2) Reboot
Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
BB10 Devices. Hold the top button down until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the device to be fully shut down (e.g., nothing at all displayed on the screen, no LED lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red LED is lit. Wait through the full boot-up process. IF this fails, you can attempt the battery-pull method above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.
    Good luck!

  • Why will mail not send when it will receive?

Mail receives correspondence on all accounts, but will not send on the grounds that the server forbids retransmission.  However it does work with wegbmail like yahoo and g accessed through safari.  How can I resolve this?

Did you check the outgoing mail server setting in each account? Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

  • 10.9.3: Not able to log onto other networks than mine at home and Go Daddy outgoing mail not sending (smtp)

A week ago my go daddy email stopped working as it would receive but not send. It's an imap account and hence it would not connect to the smtp server when attemting to send. Incoming imap server works well. When trying to use a network outside my home, I discovered that I cannot log into other networks than my own any longer. Email and wifi on my phone works all fine. I have been on the phone with Apple and Go Daddy for 3 hours altogher, tried different solutions such as deleting anti virus software, deleting and resetting email account, tried different port versions etc to no avail. Since I can still not log on to other networks, I am suspecting it be an operating system error? Has anyone experienced a similar problem or has a possible solution please?

    Thanks. here it is:

  • Trackpad not responding

My MacBook Pro is having some issues with the trackpad. I'm finding that clicking does not always respond and I have to push hard on it or hold it a bit in order for it to register.

My good friend has been having this same problem with his Unibody MacBook, He's taken it to Apple and they've replaced the parts a number of times. But it still keeps happening.
My only conclusion, Is that he might be clicking too strongly therefore, It is wearing the trackpad button down.
Perhaps you are doing the same thing?
I have been using click-to-click since I bought my MacBook Pro in 2008, And just a few months earlier this year I started noticing a little less response in my trackpad, So I switched to tap-to-click, it's been great.
In my personal experience I think the trackpads on these new Unibody Macs (like all things) wear down with time and use.
My solution, Find a USB or Bluetooth mouse that you really like or use tap-to-click.
I hope this helps you out some!

  • Can't get trackpad to recognize three finger tap gesture for left click

    Hello,
Hoping someone can help me. I am new to mac and just got a mbp 13. I have magicprefs installed so I can add various trackpad gestures. I have it set up so that when I do a 3 finger tap it should equal a left click. No matter what I do, the trackpad doesn't recognize this.
The trackpad recognizes the 2 finger tap as right click just fine, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Do I have to enable or disable something in the system preference trackpad box to allow for a left click gesture?
Any help would be appreciated-I use left click a lot and it would be great to just do this with a 3 finger tap. Thanks in advance.

Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Can not send e-mails after iOS5 upgrade

I upgraded my wifes iPhone to iOS 5. After the upgrade she can receive e-mails but can not send them. All the composed e-mails end up in her outbox. I click on the error and it says "The connection to the outgoing server "smtp.***.com" failed. Additional Outgoing Mail Servers can be configured in Setting>Mail, Contacts, Calenders."
    Anyone have any suggestions?

Go to Settings => Mail,Contacts,Calenders => select the account and may have to click account again => should be viewing username and password, Scroll down and Select - Outgoing Server => Tap on Primary Server => try entering Username and Password in there even though it says optional... Also try port 25 if that doesn't work and try toggling SSL on/off if that doesn't work.

  • Iphone 5s will not send imessages after update

I updated my iPhone 5s to the newest IOS 7.1.2 and since that time it will not send imessages to anyone.  I have powered off and on.  I have reset the settings.  I have checked to make sure that messaging is on.  I have turned off messaging and then turned it back on.  It was working just fine prior to the update.  Anyone know how to fix this??
    Thanks!!

    Hello marybethcolc,
It sounds like you are unable to send iMessages after a recent update despite some great troubleshooting. I would use the following article as a guide to help you get that issue resolved, named:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2755
To resolve issues with sending and receiving iMessages, follow these steps
Check iMessage system status for current service issues.
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and make sure that you registered iMessage with your phone number or Apple ID and that you selected iMessage for use. If the phone number or Apple ID isn't available for use, troubleshoot iMessage registration.
Open Safari and navigate to www.apple.com to verify data connectivity. If a data connection isn't available, troubleshoot cellular data or a Wi-Fi connection.
iMessage over cellular data might not be available while you're on a call. Only 3G and faster GSM networks support simultaneous data and voice calls. Learn which network your phone supports. If your network doesn't support simultaneous data and voice calls, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on to use iMessage while you're on a call.
    Restart your device.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
If you still can't send or receive an iMessage, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Make sure that the contact you're trying to send a message to is registered with iMessage.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and recreate the contact in the Contacts app. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.
Back up and restore your device as new.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling
