Trackpad Pointer issues

Been having issues getting the trackpad pointer to place where I want it on the screen. For instance, if I want to highlight a sentence I can't get the pointer in the correct spot. It takes me probable 10 seconds or so because when I try clicking the pointer where I want it, a pointer menu keeps popping up. The same thing happens when trying to click things on the screen. I am new to the Mac but don't think I am doing anything wrong.
Anyone else having this issue?

You could try this; Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode.
It takes awhile to come up so patience is a virtue here.
Does it do it in Safe Mode?
And here is What is Safe Mode.

  • Dragging rotated and nested symbol causes registration point issues

    Has anyone noticed registration point issues when trying to drag a nested symbol or if you place a symbol on the stage and manually roated it with the rotate tool?
    I have been tryig to master the science of this and am still having a helluva time. It looks like it thinks your mouse is the 0,0 point and instantly jumps the symbol you are attemping to drag.
    Has anyone else noticed this and figured out a workaround?
    I noticed if I dynamically place the symbol it doesnt have this issue but I would prefer to not be forced into that

    Yes there is. After you have paused at the IN-point, hit shift + left arrow, this will mark the IN-point. Play to OUT-point, pause, shift + left arrow and the clip is selected from the two points.

    hi,
    my magic trackpad has issue with 3 finger swipe between applications or swipe issue after OS X 10.8.1 update.
    Anyone facing the same issue? Thanks.

    Did you check System Preferences - Trackpad ? Also I'm not sure exactly what 3 fingered swipe are you referring to?

  • Vanishing Point issue - cs6

    Why does cs6 or the cs5 stop working when I use the vanishing point. i have a file showing an open dictionary. I am mapping the opened  page in this dictionary. The page has a curved profile. To this curved profile I would be pasting another seperate page (of the same size) from another file. My grid size is about 100. I am using the angle adjustment to help map the curved profile.

    Good day!
    Why does cs6 or the cs5 stop working when I use the vanishing point.
    What exactly do you mean?
    Is there a crash? If so someone else might be able to get relevant information from the crash report.
    Could you please post a screenshot or lores?
    Might a Warp on a Smart Object not also work? (Naturally this does not address the Vanishing Point issue itself.)

    How do I stop trackpad pointer freezing?

    I have this same problem. I press the sleep button twice (once to sleep, once to awaken), and I can work again. Freezes on multi-finger scroll/swipes (somtimes on two fingers, always on three). I have tried changing multi-finger option in the trackpad config, to no avail.

  • How to center the TrackPad pointer on startup

    Hi guys (and ladies)!
    New on this forum, I confess I didn't have much time to prowl it in search for an answer to the question in the tittle of this post. I apologize for this, but the question itself is pretty straightforward: I'd like my TrackPad pointer to appear in the center of the screen on startup, the way it does on... err, um, you know, the OS from Redmond... You know?
    I find it a hassle to have to dislodge it from its upper left corner every time I boot up my MBP, especially considering it takes several attempts to move it, with the Apple menu usually appearing when all I need is to click on a Dock icon...
    I read somewhere that an AppleScript could be devised that would remedy to my problem, but I'm not fluent in AppleScript, so if you guys suggest something along this route, please make it understandable for the newbie that I am!
    Thanks in advance...

    OK, that's one way to put it, but I already have a PC with Windoze installed (I happen to beta-test Seven like a half-dozen billion other people...), so if I wanted to run Windoze, I'd do it on my other computer.
    No, seriously, doesn't anyone know of a script that would center the pointer on the screen of my MBP when it boots up? Like giving it new spacial coordinates (e.g. x=720, y=450 for my 1440x900px display)?
    OK, I'll make it simple (???): how do you instruct the pointer to act the way I've just described via AppleScript?

  • Wireless Trackpad/Keyboard Issue Bootcamp Windows 7

    Hi so i'm pretty much all the way to the part in windows where it tells you "Create User Name/Password"
    1 Problem. My Wireless trackpad and keyboard worked all the way until this point. Now i get nothing. not even a twitch from my mouse
    Keyboar is out too. Has this issue been solved? Do i need to find a usb keyboard? Please help?

    hi, to get past this stage of the instalation you need to use a usb wired mouse, this means a mouse that has a wire and usb to plug into your mac.
    the onscreen keyboard can be found if you click on the icon on the bottom left of the setup screen (looks similar to a wheelchair sgn)
    a usb wireless mouse or keyboard will not work because the wireless drivers are not yet installed in windows. they will install along with all other drivers when you open the bootcamp drive (can be found in win7; "my computer"
    in win 8; "this pc") and click on setup exe. this installs bootcamp on the windows side and installs all the drivers that you downloaded while originally running bootcamp assistant.

    Hi, I believe I'm having the same problem as you, Zaby, with the jumpy keyboard / letters / unexpected insertion points. Creating any document on my 2008 MacBook, including in email, I'll be typing and after a dozen or so keystrokes, the letters randomly fly to a line somewhere above and the sentence continues there. Sometimes this overwrites previous sentences (argh!) and sometimes things are suddenly highlighted and overwritten, gone! Spontaneous combustion. (Apple Z restores but it's a horrendously frustrating process.) Then I have to go to the lines above and drag the middle of the sentence back to where it started. And repeat.
    There's no discernable pattern. I tried making the lines very short because it happens somewhere into a line but this doesn't always work due to the randomness. Maddening!
    My thumbs stay off the trackpad.
    When I brought this problem to the Genius Bar, they pointed out that I had a "Crackpad" (which I had figured was normal wear and tear) and told me there's a quiet recall of the cracked keyboard/mouse/trackpad part. They said this could fix the problem. If not, the next step would be repairs to some cable beneath the keyboard costing $500 -- some kind of shorting between the trackpad, cursor and keys type deal.
    So the top of the MacBook was made new again (which also fixed my "white key syndrome").
    Problem with insertion points persists... up to now?
    I've been reading the Forums for about an hour to find suggested solutions to this issue not costing $500. The problem is not so well documented (that's why I'm going into great detail). Aside from reinstalling SMS (?) and PRAM there was no consensus on why this happens or how to fix it. HOWEVER I just followed a suggestion to go into System Preferences and click "ignore random input" in the Trackpad section. I also slowed down the keystroke rate and the repeat rate in the Keyboard preference.
    Suddenly I'm able to type this at my normal speed without the flying letters! I know this doesn't work for everyone and I'm quite skeptical that this will last more than an hour. But if the fix was that easy I'll be thrilled.
    cheers

  • Trackpad/pointer problems

    First off, I've dug around the forums and found the two main articles which refer to trackpad problems, so I've been careful to only use one finger on the trackpad, and I have "Ignore accidental trackpad input" checked.
    Routinely after using the trackpad, the pointer disappears, and when it re-appears it won't respond to the trackpad for a second or two (seems longer but it's probably not). I first noticed this in Logic Pro, but it does it sometimes in Finder (or other random OSX windows) too.
    My MBP came from the refurb store, so I'm wondering if this is a known issue, or a faulty machine...

    I'm here looking for posts on this problem, since it's happening to me as well. Seems to occur primarily in graphic intensive programs, but when doing minor tasks in small files, like moving a selection of text. Can happen in other apps as well - just happened now cutting and pasting. i have nothing connected to the computer...which is also a refurb from apple that i just picked up. RAM issue?

  • Trackpad + CD issues. Help greatly appreciated.

    Hi.
    I'm having two major issues with my iBook:
    1)
    The mouse trackpad freezes after a certain time of use. The only thing that helps is restarting the computer, after which the mouse gets progressively worse untill it freezes completely again. This takes about 30 min. each time.
    Everything else is working fine, including keyboard shortcuts. It's just the mouse that stops working (and that includes the button to, btw).
    I've tried resetting the PMU , but that didn't help. Eventually I deleted my entire computer, and reinstalled the system. Didn't help either. I noticed the problem was still there even when I booted from the install CD.
    2)
    I'm having problems reading burnt CD's. Even CD's that I just burnt on my own computer, and that are supposed to be fine.
    They'll ususally work for the first couple of times after burning, but eventually if I try to insert it, my computer tells me that the disc I inserted is empty(!). But they're definetely not empty, you can see it clearly on the back of the CD to. This is a problem that has always been there, more or less, but I've gotten to a point where I'm really fed up with it. In general the CD/DVD station is really sluggish. Makes a lot of noice to.
    DVD's work fine, normal CD's (not burnt) work fine. Burnt CD's usually don't.
    Sometimes it helps trying to insert the CD a number of times.
    Help appreciated.

    Thanks to both Ronda and Barry for replying.
    Good news first:
    As for the CD-issue, I followed the instructions provided on another thread:
    hey all you are not going to believe this. I turned the ibook upside down with the drive open and there is a small metal disk all i did was clean this with alcohol and cottton. Fixed it must be some sort of electrical or magnetic switch. i hope this helps
    I can confirm that works. Been with this problem for almost 2 months on my Toshiba combo drive, and tried everything (hardware and software) but cleaning the little metal contact made the problem go away. It seems like it is an electrical connection that fails when dirty.
    All you have to do is open the tray, and look for a little circular metal contact near the center of the tray (in the opposite side of the tray from the one you put discs into, this is, the bottom side). Clean it with a soft cloth and you're all set! Insert a disc and it will play.
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?128@@.68aa52cb
    And it worked! As for now, my computer is recognizing the same CD's that it wouldn't right before I cleaned it. So I think that problem is gone now.
    To Barry:
    I was having bigger problems reading CD's burnt on other computers than for those burnt on my own. Those from my own computer would usually work for a couple of times (or untill the next time I restarted my computer). But who knows, maybe the solution above will work for you sons computer as well.
    Now the mouse issue:
    I haven't booted from OS 9, but I guess booting from a CD gives me the same info. And the problem was still there when I booted from the CD.
    I also tried the instructions provided on another thread, but sadly it didn't work for me:
    scott raymoure, "dead trackpad", 08:45pm Jun 5, 2005 CDT
    But I still have a feeling it might be a software issue:
    1) Rebooting the computer helps, after which the mouse works for about 30 min. Wouldn't this be more random if it was hardware?
    2) It often happends just as I perform some kind of task on the computer. Eg, open another tab in Safari, open mail......basicly when I run several small processes at once. At least I think so, of course it could be my imagination.
    3) After erasing my computer and installing everything again, the mouse issue actually got WORSE. If it was hardware, I suppose it would have stayed the same. But the issue is signigicantly worse now.
    But one thing especially bothers me:
    When I hit the computer to the left of the trackpad, it fixes the problem for a short while. I suppose this is consistent with a Logic Board Failure. But the problem is, I just had my Logic Board exchanged about 2 months ago. Could it be broken already now? If so, can I expect having to change the Locic Board six times per year?
    Thanks again for replies to both of you, and good luck to Barry with the CD-issue.
    P.S.
    I bought the computer new almost 3 years ago and I do not have apple care protection plan.

  • HP Envy m6 Keyboard & TrackPad multitasking issues

    I'm running on an HP Envy m6 Laptop, with 64 Bit Windows 8 Standard edition, straight out of Best Buy.
    I've had this computer for nearly a year now. I honestly love everything about it, from the backlit keyboard to the i5 processor. But there's one thing I always have to work around that I can no longer stand about the thing.
    As I am a slight gamer, sometimes i enjoy playing NFS, Minecraft, Assassin's Creed, and whatnot on my PC, I always have to connect a wireless mouse to my laptop, because if I press a key on the keyboard and try to make a gesture on the trackpad, one of the two actions won't work. e.g. if i press W (to go forward) and move my finger to the left (to look to the left in a game), it will only perform the walking forward motion, because it's not accepting both signals for some odd reason. I'd appreciate if an expert could assist me, I've looked through the Synaptics properties, mouse settings, etc. etc., and have had no success in fixing this issue.

  • DL Break Point Issue - Please Help.

    Hello,
    I use to work in DVDSP when you could only do one layer and even then I knew just enough to get the job done. Now I have a program that is 6.6 gigs total size (according to DVDSP) and I can't get this thing to find the break point. I have read through most of the manual regarding this issue and have read many posts - first I have to ask is why is this so difficult?
    Here are the issues in detail and I ask that if you give input please guide me like I have limited knowledge in this.
    I am using DVDSP 4.1.0 on a G5 Dual 1.8 OS is 10.4.8 with a Pioneer DVR 111D. I have 4 'tracks' all coming off one main menu...no sub menu's - so I have the one main and four buttons that go directly to the videos. When I try to 'burn' the DVD I get this error 'Formatting was not successful. A suitable marker could not be found in the required layer break range. See the DVD Studio Pro User's Manual for more information.' The size of each track is as follows:
    Track One: The Main footage is 4.0 Gig (this is the one I am trying to set the break point because the limit is 3.9 Gig)
    Track Two: is 1.7 Gig
    Track Three: 606 Meg
    Track Four: 216 Meg
    I have tried 'Automatic' without luck.
    I have tried to place a few markers approximately 3/4 of the way through Track One the marker that I place is Green and in the Inspector window when I click on that marker I see the 'Marker Function' and then the button to select Dual-Layer Break Point and I select that only. However when I click something else and then come back to Marker the Dual Layer Break Point is not selected!
    I then have gone into the 'Disc/Volume' and tried to select the 'Break Point' and chose Track One but still nothing. I have read in the forums about building the disc and then going into the TS folders and blah blah blah to get this done but that is above my head and I don't understand it.
    I just need to get this video done. It is for a family who's 17 daughter was tragically killed and will be a fund raiser for them...I need to get this done. So if any of you are willing to help that would be SO appreciated AND if any of you would be so kind to walk me through this over the phone THAT WOULD BE GREAT! Just email me at [email protected] and I will email you my number. I know this is a tad different but I don't have much time left to get this done because of my 'real job' and again, I need to get this done!

    Hi csiaudio,
    Build the project (AltAppleC). Then in the format window (Apple+F), Disc/Volume tab you'll be able to see the available break point markers. If they are all greyed out then you do not have one in the project.
    Add Cell markers in places that you think would be ok as the layer switch. You do this by adding a chapter marker and then in the property inspector un-checking the type Chapter. This will now be a marker that can be used as a dual layer break point but is not a chapter marker.
    You'll need to re-build the project and check the format window options again,
    -Jake

  • Assigning a variant string to a function pointer issue?

    Hello,
    This is a little complex for me to describe, so I will try my best to explain !
    I don't know if this is doable in C?
    Basically, I need a function pointer to hold the name of a function coming form a character array!
    From the examples I have seen, it seems that what I am trying to do is not the conventional way of doing function pointers, but I don't see any other way of doing what I need to do.
    In one instance, the function pointer in my code, will require to be assigned a function name like this:
    _g_BlkFuncs_ =_BUF_FUNC_PTR_ParseBlockStatus;
    and at other instances, the same function pointer needs to be assigned to a function called:
    _g_BlkFuncs_ =_INV_FUNC_PTR_ParseBlockStatus;
    and at other instances:
    _g_BlkFuncs_ =_AND_FUNC_PTR_ParseBlockStatus;
    or
    _g_BlkFuncs_ =_OR_FUNC_PTR_ParseBlockStatus;
    etc....
    The only time I will know which function to assign is when I will retrieve the first part of the function name from a table called
    _x_UserPrgBlock_. The first part being the name differentiator such as "_BUF_", "_INV_", "_AND_", "_OR_" and so forth which
    is initially stored in the one of the table members called m_LogicElement_ residing in the _x_UserPrgBlock_ table or struct.
    In the example below, I made it simple by hard coding the assigning of the m_LogicElement_ member as "_BUF_" (see the line commented as "Manual assignment line" below). In reality the  m_LogicElement_ member is assigned from
    a user defined string which will vary from time to time.
    Here is the sample snippet which shows the issue.
    ================================STRUCT.h
    #ifndef STRUCT_H
    #define STRUCT_H
    typedef struct USR_PRG_CNV{ // User program converter table
    char m_LogicElement_[2][knst_BUF_LOGIC_ELEM]; // Name of the logic block
    } User_Prg_Block;
    #endif
    =================================_BUF.h
    #ifndef BUF_H
    #define BUF_H
    void _BUF_FUNC_PTR_ParseBlockStatus(void);
    #endif
    ================================_BUF.c
    void _BUF_FUNC_PTR_ParseBlockStatus(void){
    int i = 0;
    i = 10;
    ===============================UPC.h
    #ifndef UPC_H
    #define UPC_H
    void AssignmentFunc();
    #endif
    ===============================UPC.c
    User_Prg_Block _x_UserPrgBlock_[2];
    void AssignmentFunc(){
    strcpy(_x_UserPrgBlock_[0].m_LogicElement_, "_BUF_"); // Manual assignment line
    ===============================DFP.c
    #include "_BUF.h"
    void (*_g_BlkFuncs_) (void);
    char volatile _g_FuncPtrStrVariant_[35];
    void SomeFunction(){
    strcpy(_g_FuncPtrStrVariant_, _x_UserPrgBlock_[0].m_LogicElement_); // Get "_BUF_"
    strcat(_g_FuncPtrStrVariant_, "FUNC_PTR_ParseBlockStatus"); // Complete the function name
    // Now try to assign the full function name to the function pointer
    //_g_BlkFuncs_ = _BUF_FUNC_PTR_ParseBlockStatus;
    //_g_BlkFuncs_ = &_g_FuncPtrStrVariant_;
    _g_BlkFuncs_ = _g_FuncPtrStrVariant_; // ???
    ==============================Main.c
    void main(){
    AssignmentFunc();
    SomeFunction();
    In reference to the following line listed above:
    _g_BlkFuncs_ = _g_FuncPtrStrVariant_;
    I do realize that conventionally, it should be:
    _g_BlkFuncs_ =_BUF_FUNC_PTR_ParseBlockStatus;
    The problem I find myself faced with is that the function that "_g_BlkFuncs_" points to, has to vary in accordance to the name of the function stored in the _g_FuncPtrStrVariant_ character array! The reason is that the _g_FuncPtrStrVariant_
    array is actually built up to the name of the function based on the current contents of m_LogicElement_ residing in the _x_UserPrgBlock_ table.
    I think!!!!! that even if I use an array of function pointers, it won't solve the issue.
    In summary, in C, is there a way to assign a name of a function built from a character array to a function pointer?
    All help sincerely appreciated!
    Thanks

    I am interpreting your question a little different than Brian.
    If I understand you correctly you are asking:  "Given the name of a function as a string, how do I get a pointer to that function".
    The unfortunately fact is that C++ does not support reflection, so getting a function by name is not possible.  By the time the linker has done its thing, the function name has been stripped from code.
    This means if you need to support string lookup of a function name you need to support an alternate mechanism to handle this.  If you were using C++, a map would be an ideal mechanism.  C can still do this, but the mechanism is a lot uglier
    due to the lack of data structures like std::string and std::map.

  • Lenovo G550 - Keyboard/Mouse/Pointer Issues - PLEASE HELP Tech suppport couldn't.

    I spent over an hour on the phone with Lenovo tech support last week to try to solve this issue and it is not solved. The guy had never heard of it and kept researching how to fix it.  I personally  have this feeling that it's a very very simple issue but I can't figure out how to correct it.  I've changed mouse/pointer settings and it still isn't working.  I love my new laptop in every other way but i'm getting so frustrated with it I'm ready to send it back because of the problem with the mouse/pointer.  So if anyone could help me I'd appreciate it greatly.
    I will be typing and out of nowhere the cursor will move to wherever the mouse is...or it will highlight everything I just typed and delete it.  I've had to type much slower and keep moving the mouse but when i'm working on my projects and typing away and highlighting/editing, I get into the work and it's a pain in the rear when the cursor suddenly moves a paragraph up and I am still typing away and sometimes don't realize it until i've typed another two sentences.  Hence the typing slower.
    Today it deleted discussion posts I had typed up for my online classes before I had hit submit. Causing me to waste another 30 minutes trying to retype what I'd already done.  I was ready to throw this laptop in the garbage.
    I decided to not do that and post in this forum in the hopes that someone will be able to help me.
    Thank you,
    Komal
