Trackpad preferences issues

Hi, I've just recently updated to mavericks, but i can't change my trackpad preferences, 'cause when I try, it says 'Preferences Error'  'Could not load Trackpad preference pane.'
What can I do?

Hi, unwisebewildered.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here is a troubleshooting article that may help with this issue.

I accidentally unchecked "Tap to Click" on the Trackpad preferences and now I can't click on anything!

It happens to me ALL THE TIME. I'm getting pretty sick of this! It didn't start happening until maybe a month ago. I'm pretty fed up though!
And NOW. This is great. Ever since installing iLife 09 my keyboard randomly stops working. Sometimes I can bring it back by closing the display and then opening it again.
The crazy thing is that these issues are TOTALLY random. I've been on here for hours and nothing has gone wrong. Then out of no where...with no other applications run or doing ANYTHING I haven't been doing for hours...it all starts to go wrong. First it's tap-to-click in this pattern of working-not-working. Then it's the keyboard goes crazy.
I'm doing a large backup of everything at the moment. Then I plan on running disk utility from the installer disks and see if that helps. If it doesn't I'm uninstalling iLife 09 to start with and after that i don't know what.
I'm just REALLY tired of this!

  • Magic Trackpad - incorrect Trackpad preference pane?

    Hey folks,
Just bought a pretty magic trackpad for my late 2009 i7 iMac (10.6.4). Looks nice, but when I set it up, Software Update didn't see any update for my iMac. So I downloaded it directly from Apple and that seemingly went fine, but the Trackpad preference pane is the same as for my white Macbook, rather than having all the gestures. Even then, two finger scrolling & clicking doesn't work, even when enabled.
I tried reinstalling the update, no dice. Any other suggestions?

Hahahah, I got a bit confused. I'm following two different threads on the issue (this one, and the one I linked above) and I thought one was the other.
Weird that the wrong preference pane is appearing. For now I just removed the trackpad from my bluetooth devices while I do a bit o'research and see if I can find a way to fix this. Fingers crossed for an incoming patch
Did those other users have the same issue, and how did they fix it? It's possible I made a mistake whilst setting it up in my excitement.

    hi,
my magic trackpad has issue with 3 finger swipe between applications or swipe issue after OS X 10.8.1 update.
Anyone facing the same issue? Thanks.

Did you check System Preferences - Trackpad ? Also I'm not sure exactly what 3 fingered swipe are you referring to?

  • I can not open trackpad preference plz help

hi i have a macbook late 2008 and i am not able to open the trackpad preference every time i try it unexpectedly quite. do dont know what to do. ive tried disk utility repair, restart thats all i can think of.

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.

iCloud should still help you reduce some hard drive space. Just select "optimize" in the icloud tab in Mac Photo App preferences.
Granted, not the same as completely offloading your library to a back-up drive at your location.
    Good Luck!

  • Double-Click speed with new TrackPad preference pane

I have an original white MacBook. Ever since I updated to 10.5.6 with the new Trackpad preference Pane no matter where I set the Double-click speed setting (everywhere from slow to fast) I constantly get a double click event even when I single click the track pad. Prior to 10.5.6 the trackpad worked perfectly. Has anyone else noticed different behavior since the update? Any solution to getting the correct double-click speed to stick?

I've got a similar problem, but in the opposite direction.
After the 10.5.6 update, my double click speed sticks to slow.
I can change it and make it faster, but after every boot, it starts up with a slow speed again.
I'm on a Early 2008 Macbook Pro (first multitouch, last non unibody)

The zooming function on the trackpad stopped working on my Mac Air OSX 10.9.3.  I've already checked the trackpad preferences to make sure I didn't inadvertently alter something.  It worked fine in the morning then when I woke my computer in the afternoon the zoom no longer worked.  I use this function constantly so I hope something is not broken.

    Where is zooming not working?

  • Trackpad preferences does not appear in the system preferences

    Hi.
My Macbook Pro has Snow Leopard version os x 10.6.8.
For any reason that I do not know, I am unable to use all the functionalities of the trackpad like rotate a picture etc.
Besides that, if I go to the System Preferences Folder, and select the Trackpad preferences pane, I find a clear window... all the options about trackpad functionalities disappeared and I do not know how to restore it.
Besides that, now my trackpad does not appear to have all functionalities operational. For example, in order to open a file, now I have to press twice the trackpad. Before, it only was necessary to tap twice the trackpad, without pressure on it.
Does anyone knows how to solve this?
    Thank you in advance,
    PA Sousa

    Hi yong88
Try to reset PRAM and PMU.
Try to boot from installer disk and press D for hardware diagnostic.
    Try to repair permission.
Go to system preference > International > Input menu > check only UK.
Install a fresh OS X might resolve the problem (back up your file first).
Check the connection from logic board to the keyboard and re-attached that and see how it works.
    Good Luck

  • Why didn't my trackpad preference pane update?

Just finished updating my old MacBook Pro (2007) to Lion, and everything seems to be working fine except the Trackpad preferences are old. Or, they don't have tabs where I can manage gestures. The gestures that I'm supposed to be able to do don't work, and I couldn't find any info that says that they aren't compatible with my laptop. The only thing I can think of is that it could be my Logitech Control Center software (I use a Logitech mouse) that's interefering?

Your MBpro doesn't have a multi touch trackpad installed.  Your gestures will be limited to basically what they were before the Lion upgrade.  You should buy a Magic Trackpad to take advantage of the new gestures.
    Regards,
    Captfred
Edit:  The 2007 MBpro trackpad supports:
Trackpad    Solid-state trackpad supports tap, double-tap, drag and scrolling

  • My new MacBookPro (Mac OSX 10.6.7) trackpad preferences not useful...

My new MacBookPro (Mac OSX 10.6.7) trackpad preferences is trying to detect a bluetooth enabled trackpad instead of displaying the standard trackpad preferences. I really want to be able to set the trackpad preferences, but can't. How to fix this?

It was odd. The good news is that all is well now after performing an update to 10.6.8.

  • Macbook Pro 4,1 (Early 2008) Multitouch Trackpad Update Issues

I've searched around the discussions and haven't seen any other posts, any input would be greatly appreciated.
I have the last MacbookPro model before the unibody model came out, so it's got a three finger multitouch trackpad and a trackpad button.
Before the unibody model came out, the trackpad was fine, but after the trackpad update for multitouch trackpads I've found a couple of issues.
When I click (both tap and button) on any stacks in my dock, they open, but when I click it again it should close, but does not respond to multiple clicks. I have to move somewhere else on the screen instead.
Also, before the trackpad update, the zoom in/out pinch gesture worked in the finder. With any window you had open, you could change the size of the icons or zoom in and out of the thumbnails and the previews in cover flow view. After the trackpad update, these gestures no longer work.
Has anyone else experienced these quirks?
    Thanks.

So a bit of an update-
After doing some more searching, this discussion popped up
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8633568&#8633568
and the problem with multitouch gestures for finder windows has been solved
the zoom using trackpad option has been moved to the finder menu inside of preferences>advanced.
I think that I also figured out what was wrong with my trackpad with regards to clicking. For some reason, every time I restart my computer, the double click speed defaults to really slow. Anyone else have this issue?

  • Trackpad Sensitivity Issue After Snow Leopard Upgrade

I have a Late 2008 MBP/2.53 Ghz and prefer to use tap to click/2 finger secondary tap.
After upgrading to Snow Leopard (to v.10.6.6 as a clean install), linked webpages and files/folders often open when a second finger touches the trackpad accidentally even when pressed very gently.
The same happens if a third finger touches the trackpad if I am scrolling through a page with 2 fingers. Sometimes when pausing/hovering over a link, part of the page surrounding the hyperlink will highlight and can sometimes the link will activate without any additional accidental touch. I have slowed down the tracking and double click speed in preferences, but this makes no difference.
The funny thing is, some days the problems are worse than other days, the trackpad seems to have a mind of it's own! These issues never happened with Leopard, and it is very frustrating.
Post SL upgrade, I have also noticed that the Magsafe adapter sometimes needs a little wiggle before it will start charging, and occasionally, the red 'close' symbol at the top left of the page does not always activate and I have to start tapping elsewhere before trying to close the page again.
My parents have SL installed natively on their MBP (Spring 2010), and their MBP does not encounter any of these problems.
Disk Utility shows Javavirtualmachine differences, which I trust can be ignored as the differences are non critical, or could these issues be having an effect on SL?
I have AppleCare which expires in November and I want this sorted out asap. I could just revert back to using Leopard, but as I have paid £30 for Snow Leopard it would be a waste of money.
I'm not sure whether my AppleCare cover these issues seeing as SL wasn't natively installed on the Mac when purchased?
If anyone can help with these issues it would be very much appreciated.
    Many thanks

After installing SL, i cannot get wellsfargo "account login" to work for any account of mine, other financial secure sites work fine, i.e. fidelity or vanguard, I can access the main screen of wellsfargo but login fails ... screen i get says Safari can't connect to the server and as follows: "Safari can’t open the page “https://online.wellsfargo.com/das/cgi-bin/session.cgi?" plus some more gibberish stuff.... i tried switching to firefox and it works fine .... never had any trouble before ..... tried safari reset, safari empty cache, and maintenace that applied ...... still no luck!! hope they get this bug fixed , my other computer an older mac mini works fine. any help????? never had any problem before SL
