Trackpad problem? (kind of urgent)

Okay, I've just picked up my Pro... haven't even turned it on yet... the first thing I noticed about the click anywhere trackpad was that... well you can't click anywhere? I mean, right at the top of it, you can't click it at all... it's like it's really easy to press down the bottom, but then gets harder as you go up to the top... and at the very top doesn't click at all. Is that the way it's supposed to be, or should I be sending this thing back to the shop? Thanks.

Well then, welcome to Macintosh!
I understand, I was a bit on edge when I bought mine too. After a few weeks that will fade... so enjoy it while you can! Ha ha. And don't read too many threads on here... they have a thing for making you paranoid about your machine when there is often no need. We're kind of like the Mac hospital here... you won't find many healthy computers, though (like the real world) there are many more healthy Macs out there than there are here, I promise.
Again, enjoy your new Mac and don't be afraid to ask any questions you have!

  • Yet another XP/SATA problem (Kind of urgent...)

    Hello there.
I just bought a 865PE Neo2-V motherboard, and a Maxtor 160GB SATA disk with 8mb buffer. That PC doesn't have another HD, so i need to install WINXP there.
I tried the F6 thing, with all kind of drivers and none worked. The installation says that it can't find an HD.
The version of the Bios is 5.4. i read that there's a 5.5 version that let's u use 140+ gb HDs, but my bios actually detects my HD, with 163.9 GB and everything ON.
Any idea on how to solve this? I need the PC for work, max on Monday :(

You do not need to hit F6 as there's no Promise Controllers or VIA Controllers for your mobo, all you need to do is to enter BIOS > Advanced Chipset Features > Integrated Pheripherals > ATA Config and set to the following:
    Native Mode
    SATA Only
    PATA Keep Enabled - Yes
    PATA Channel Selection - Both
    or
    Native Mode
    PATA Only
    SATA Keep Enabled - Yes
    or
    Legacy Mode
    SATA Only
    PATA Keep Enabled - Yes
    PATA Channel Selection - Both
You should also check if your SATA drive is connected to SATA1 connector and in Standard CMOS > HDD info > Check if LBA mode is set to On for your HDD.
Save all settings and reboot. If you still can't see your HDD, I suggest that you should post the full list of your system config + PSU specs amps for verification.

  • Macbook pro trackpad problems

I have been having trackpad problems on my macbook pro (bought in 2010) for the past couple of days. Not only does it move erratically by itself, but the left click does not respond as it should. Whenever I use the left click, it works as a right click, and I have made no changes in the trackpad options. I have done a battery check through the shift and battery click option, and the response for battery came normal. I have also done a PRAM/NVRAM reset, but the problem still persists. Do I need to replace my battery? Please leave any suggestions. Thanks

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not apply in your case.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
    2. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and in that case the unit must be serviced or replaced.
    3. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
    4. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
    5. Reset the System Management Controller.
    6. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    7. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
    8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
    9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    10. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
    11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

  • Problem with spreads - urgent!

My problem here is that when I want to print my 18-page document, InDesign have decided to make these 18 pages in to 10 spreads.
The result of that is the printer printing 2 pages in one page, in stead of what I want; 1 page on 1 page, thank you!
I have tried to make a new document with the same amount of pages and so on, but it still won't work.
How do I turn it off? Please help me, it's for school and kind of urgent...

I am having a similar problem.  I am using CS5 and am making a portfolio, for online submission.  I want the portfolio to be viewed online as spreads, but be printed out as 8.5 x 11's.  This is because I am not in charge of printing out the document, I have to give it over to someone else as a part of an application.  I have tried all the ways suggested in this thread, but have not been able to achieve my goals.  I feel like perhaps this is something that needs to happen at the level of the PDF in a program like Acrobat if it is possible?

  • White Macbook (Mid 2006) Trackpad problem

I have a white Macbook from Mid 2006 and it has been functioning fine all these years. However just yesterday, it developed a trackpad problem.
I am still able to move the cursor but nothing happens when I click the trackpad button.
I then bought an external mouse. However the problem did not go away entirely. The external mouse would work just fine (I would be able to click with it) if I did not touch the trackpad. However on the few occasions where I accidentally touched the trackpad, the external mouse would suddenly suffer the same fate as the trackpad, i.e. I was still able to move the cursor but I could not click with the external mouse.
I managed to alleviate the problem by checking the "Ignore trackpad when mouse is present" option in my System Preferences, thereby preventing any accidental touches of the trackpad from affecting the external mouse. However I hope to get to the root of this sudden and mysterious problem, rather than sweeping it under a "Ignore trackpad when mouse is present" option.
I have tried resetting the PRAM and it did not solve the problem.

Might want to check: Apple->System Preferences->Universal Access , click on the Mouse & Trackpad Tab, then Make sure "Mouse Keys" are off , make sure "press the option key five times .. etc" is unchecked, make "ignore trackpad when mouse keys is on" is unchecked. Check That 1st, because it does sound like a preference problem .. If I think of another one I'll ring in ... Good Luck

  • Magic Trackpad Problems in Lion

Since loading Lion on to my 2011 MBP 13" I have a number of gesture issues on my Magic Trackpad. It seems to have a will of its own and refuses to follow the trackpad on my laptops 'lead', with particular reference to Safari, full screen apps and moving back and forwards. I've played with all the trackpad settings in system pref and still nowhere. Any thoughts chaps? Many thanks in advance.

Just wanted to add my experiences to the mix. I've had the magic trackpad (bluetooth) problems, too. Mostly, I've seen behavior where certain gestures do things they're not supposed to (and that are incredibly discruptive), like, when I single-click something, Mission Control launches. Grrrr. Anyhoo, in addition to the suggestions here, I have found that the bluetooth trackpad really likes fresh batteries. In fact, I've seen my trackpad problems go away entirely when I put in new batteries, and the battery level is back up to 100%. I've also seen the trackpad do fine when the battery level is down at 10%, but, when those problems start happening, fresh batteries have done the trick every time. It's as if a stronger bluetooth signal clears out the confusion. Oh, and, somewhat ironically perhaps, I have re-chargeable batteries that I bought from the Apple store online, and, those seem to cause the problem more often than traditional batteries, too.
Oh, and there's this KB article from Apple, too:

  • To anyone who has had the trackpad problem and had it replaced...

So if anyone has had the trackpad problem where it doesn't click or erratically doesn't move the cursor, and HAS gone to the apple store and had it fixed, does your new one work properly now?
I have an appointment this evening to have it looked at (and probably replaced) but if this is a consistent problem with all models, its not going to fix it. I am wondering if I should wait until Apple catches on to this, and does something about it.
    Anyone have any success stories?

My suggestion would be to KEEP your MacBook. There are several other discussions with the same issue.
It seems as though this issue is widespread.
Why copy data, wipe the old one clean, trade out for a new MacBook, transfer all the data BACK .... only to find your issue unresolved?
It's not worth the hassle. My guess? Apple will issue a firmware update for the trackpad issue.

  • Reinstalled 10.6.3 and success! No more trackpad problems

So, after dealing with the freezing trackpad issue for a couple of days, I decided I'd just reinstall snow leopard from scratch. Backed up my hard drive using time machine.... installed 10.6, then the 10.6.3 combo update, then used migration assistant to migrate all of my software from the latest time machine backup, and now... a system running perfectly Everything boots. No trackpad problems.
Rather than wait for apple to come up with a bug fix, this is a solution. I'm just happy that Apple has such great tools for backing up your important data.

Did the issue occur between when you had installed the 10.6.3 update and when you migrated your data back. It could be something in your user files that's causing the issue. Just a thought.
Does the issue happen in safe mode?

  • Serious Trackpad Problem

I have a 2007 13 inch macbook that is having some major trackpad problems. Its almost seems as though the button is stuck down, causing me to accidentally highlight things then drag them around the desktop then not allowing me to let go of it. You can imagine how frustrating it is. Well, my Apple care ran out a couple of months ago and I'm not sure what to do. any suggestions?

Hi...just run it without the battery installed....take a look at the battery and see if it is swollen or misshaped (doesn't seem to fit right anymore)....if you need a new battery check these people...

  • Waking up and trackpad problem

    Hi,
My 2001 PB ti has run faultlessly, daily, up until last night. It developed a trackpad problem whereby sometimes there was a few seconds lag between input and action and other times it sped along faster than normal. I tried restarting, I fiddled with the trackpad settings, I found advice on this forum for resetting the trackpads on later PBs - and tried it anyway, but to no avail. I checked it with a mouse and the mouse inputs behaved normally.
Now this morning I noticed it has also developed a problem waking up. Several times it has taken many minutes. Once I even hit the power button thinking it must have crashed but no it was just taking a long time to wake. This afternoon when waking the screen came on quickly enough but there was no cursor visible for several minutes. This leads me to believe both problems are connected.
    Any suggestions gratefully received
    tia
    Michael

    An update:
This sounds like it might be connected. I put it to sleep using the power button and selecting "sleep" and when I closed the screen it woke up again. When I re-opened the screen the Mac was running but the screen was black. Tapping keys or touching the trackpad failed to activate the screen. Eventually I had to press and hold the power button.

  • Trackpad Problem: Hardware or Software?

I've been using 'Tap to Click' since I got my MacBook, and it's been working very well.
But yesterday I unchecked the 'Tap to Click' in Trackpad System Preference and found that my Trackpad couldn't click anything. I am sure I did press the trackpad and I haven't installed any Applications related to the trackpad.
Is there anyone having the same problem?
Is my trackpad problem caused by the hardware itself or just the software?
Should I send my MacBook to an Apple Retail Store to have it repaired?
    Thanks.
P.S. Please forgive my poor English. I am not a native speaker.

How much free RAM do you have?  What percentage of free harddrive space?

  • Triggers problem - please help - urgent !!

To all experts, please help me with this problem - need answer
    urgently. Thanks in advance.
    Using Oracle 8 Rel 8.0.6
    I have 2 tables (table Y, table Z).
In the 'after insert upd del on each row trigger' (lets call it
AIUD trigger)on table Y, based on certain criteria, I insert a
    record in table Z.
New requirement is that whenever a record is inserted in table Z
(fyi, inserting any record in table Z is possible only when
records are inserted in table Y as mentioned earlier thro the
AIUD trigger - i.e. there is no frontend way to insert records
in table Z), if certain (new) criteria is satisfied, I should
insert 1 record in both, table Y and table Z.
I tried to create meet the new requirement by adding code to
existing AIUD trigger but ran into mutating tables error. So I
    dropped this idea.
I have now created 'after insert on each row trigger' (lets call
it NEW_TRIGGER) on table Z to meet the new requirement but have
    these 2 problems :
    1) the trigger always compiles with errors
    2) if I still go ahead and insert a record in table Y, I get the
    foll error msgs :
    ORA 4098 - NEW_TRIGGER is inv
ORA 6512 at line xxx on AIUD
ORA 4088 error during execution of trigger AIUD
What is the best way to work on this requirement or what am I
    doing wrong ?
    Thanks again,
    AG.

Your restatement of the problem merely confirms what the previous
posting said. You cannot write a trigger on table Y that inserts
a record into table Y: that's the mutating trigger problem
(there's oodles of postings on the subject, not to mention
online Oracle docs). You could write a trigger on table Z that
inserts into table Y - but you need to be able to see the value
    I3 which (presumeable) you can't.
One solution is to use code the trigger on table Y to submit a
call to DBMS_JOB which initiates a procedure that inserts a
    record into table Y.
You must remember that the new record in table Y must never
include the value I3, otherwise you'll end up w/ an infinite
    loop.

  • Pearl 9105 trackpad problem

    Hi,
My trackpad keeps locking or sticking and stops me from moving either up or down or left to right. Most  times if I turn my phone off and on again it solves the problem. However I have had to do that 3 times today and I'm a little cheesed off! Should I contact my carrier to get it checked? Its only a month or two old
    Thanks!

I had the same problem, from the login screen I could not scroll down to any other option but the 'Unlock' button and navigation was limited. But scrolling down within the email application worked fine.
But for me; I solved it.
Check the buttons on the very top of the phone. The Play\pause, skip forward, skip back buttons.
    |<<  >||  >>|
Can you press and unpress all of these buttons? For me the button was held down by the casing (perhaps from an earlier small fall) on the right hand side. By releasing the button (pushing back the casing) on the top of the phone the trackpad problem was resolved. So check the buttons on the top of the phone and not the tracker-pad as a potential source to the problem.
To experience the problem, (i.e. for Blackberry Support) just hold down any one of the buttons on top of the phone and then try and use the phone.
