Trackpad Quit Responding

So, I got me an iMac a week ago, I have the BT mouse and keyboard. I could not restrain myself and picked up the trackpad earlier today.
That being said, I connected the device, no problem. I used it for about an hour, just kinda playing around, then off to school I went for the majority of the day. I just got the chance to hop back online.
The trackpad will work fine for about 5 mins, then stop working. The device is still paired, the battery is at 100%, and a couple mins later it will start working again. Usually when I start poking around in the device menu's trying to find an unclicked button.
I have all three devices paired at once, with 12GB of RAM I should think this would be a no brainer for this wonder of technology. I tried unpairing, and pairing again, and so far I have not had an issue.
a) Is there any kinda "common bugs" about this?
b) I guess if this continues, it's a trackpad problem? (all other devices work without a hitch)
Whaddaya tink?
Dustin H.

FWIW, some folks find the magic mouse can be a little, shall we say, "moody" at times where it has pairing problems.  There are threads here where people have found that some batteries work better than others in the the positive terminal on the batteries (the small "nib" end) have slightly different lengths for different brands of batteries.  The result is they don't always make contact to the MM terminals.  Google "skipping magic mouse" or "jump magic mouse" and you will find lots of hits.
The moral of all this, and what I recommend, is it is best to keep around a cheap wired (USB) mouse as a backup just in case the MM fails at a point where you really need to use a mouse.
As for the TP, I have one too but I really only use with my browser.

  • My ipod touch won't respond. Shortly after I downloaded IOS 8, it quite responding. How can I get my pictures recovered?

My ipod touch won't respond. Shortly after I downloaded IOS 8, it quite responding. All I get is the Apple sign.  I connected to my computer and tried updating and was able to download the USB connection for the device but received an error when it tried to update the ipod. Is there any way to retrieve my pictures from the device before I try to recover? At this point my pictures are more valuable to me than restoring the device.  How can I get my pictures recovered?
Now it looks like I have the Apple with an line under it on the screen, but still not responsive.

  • Magic trackpad stops responding on wakeup after upgrade to Mavericks

I have a 27" iMac purchased in July 2011.  I never had any issues with the trackpad before upgrading to Mavericks.  I upgraded a few months ago and started having sporadic issues with the trackpad.  When the iMac woke up, everything seemed fine at first.  About once or twice a week, after it had been working for about a minute (just enough time to start web browsing), the trackpad would suddenly stop responding.  It then progressed to being more consistent (every other day).  The cursor was still visible and the keyboard still worked.  The trackpad was still on but apparently not connected.  I thought it was the batteries, but new batteries didn't help.  I could get the trackpad to work again by using Spotlight to open the Bluetooth System Preferences.  The trackpad worked immediately when Bluetooth preferences were opened (nothing needed to be changed; it would just start working).  However, it would stop responding after about ten minutes.  It was interesting because even if I left the Bluetooth System Preferences open, it would still stop responding after about ten minutes.  I could use the keyboard to make the preferences window active and it would immediately work again.  It would then work again for a few minutes and then stop.  I found that removing the trackpad and re-connecting it would cause the trackpad to start working again more consistently.  It would only stop if the iMac went back to sleep for an extended period (overnight).
For anyone else with this problem, helpful keyboard shortcuts are cmd + spacebar to open Spotlight, type bluetooth, use the arrow keys to go to Bluetooth system preferences (hit enter), use the arrow keys to go down to the trackpad, press spacebar to unconnect, again to confirm, and then after the trackpad is automatically rediscovered, press spacebar again to pair it.
This went on for about a month, when I had what I suspect was an unrelated problem.  The trackpad started acting as if it was being held down (left click was always being pressed).  I took it into the Apple Store and they confirmed it was broken.  I was a little disappointed since it had basically expired about a week after my AppleCare expired, but luckily the folks at Apple took care of me.  (Thanks Apple!).  At that point I had a brand new trackpad.
The issue had gone back to happening every other week or so.  I thought it might be interference, but I've since physically moved apartments and all the objects around it. It's been a couple months now and it's back to happening every couple of days or so.  Since the trackpad is brand new, I have to think this is a software issue.  I've noticed the following consistently:
    1) It only stops responding if I've put it to sleep (I usually do so with a hot corner, but I don't have any reason to believe that's related) and haven't used the computer for more than 12 hours.
    2) It'll always work right when it wakes up.  It'll stop fairly consistently 1 - 2 minutes after waking up.
    3) Time Machine seems to be busy doing something when the trackpad stops (the little icon is spinning in a circle if I have a Finder window open).  Uncertain if it's always doing something or if it's coincidence that I've noticed it more recently.
    4) As mentioned above, opening the Bluetooth System Preferences will always get the trackpad to respond, but then it'll stop after a few minutes.  Unpairing and reestablishing the pairing will fix the issue for awhile (at the very least until the next time the iMac sleeps).
    5) I may be imagining this, but before upgrading to Mavericks, I think it used to show the message that the trackpad was connected when the iMac woke up.  I no longer see that message unless I remove the connection and setup the pairing again.
I've seen lots of people with various issues with Bluetooth connectivity and Mavericks.  I'm on 10.9.4.  No one seems to have exactly this issue.  If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate them.
    Thanks!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • How do I restore a backup CD of iTunes? The process keeps stalling and quits responding

iTunes stalls operation and quits responding when I try to import iTunes backup files from a backup CD. 68 files made it before it quit restoring the rest completely.
Also, I downloaded and installed the 64 bit version of the program, however it shows up in the Task Manager as 32 bit when I attempt to end process. I have a new 64 bit machine.
Any help would be appreciated. I want my 1,600 tunes back. It's driving me nuts. Thanks in advance.

There is a 64-bit installer, but the core application is still 32-bit.
iTunes hasn't provided its own CD backup routine for a couple of years. What was used to make the backup discs? Were they verified on the source computer? Do you still have it? Are the files on an iPod or iOS device?

  • Itunes quits responding when i try to open prefrences

I have two profiles on my computer; an administator account for my self, and a user account for my daughter.  After installing itunes on my account I had to swithsc to her account for something and was suprised to find that as soon as I opened her account itunes also began an install there.  She has an ipod touch so I liked this process.  Unfortunatly after itunes installed on her profile I tried to open "prefrences" under the edit tab to install music and apps for her.  Every time I try to open "prefrences" itunes quits responding.  It seems to be the only tab that freezes itunes.  I checked and it is the most current version of itunes.  Any one got any ideas?

  • Why does address book quit responding in lion?

Since installing Lion on my MacBook Pro, the address book, after opening, quits responding and will only close with a force quit. What should I do to fix it?

First, make a backup of your Address book using File>Export>Address Book Archive.
    Quit Address Book.
Navigate to your user/Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder ( in Finder, hold down the Option key and select "Library" from the Go menu--then go from there).
    Delete the addressbookv-22.abcddb file.
Open Address Book and see what happens.
Not sure if that is the problem, but it might be. That file is a database that indexes all your contacts for quick display/searching. If it gets corrupted, you get all kinds of weird behavior.
Another problem could be syncing with either Mobile Me or Google contacts. If you are syncing, try turning syncing off. If it works fine, then turn syncing back on.  If turning it back on brings problems, try resetting Sync Services.

  • Photoshop CS4 quits responding when using 3D

Photoshop CS4 quits responding when selecting new texture in materials section under opacity in 3D. I have not had this happen till just a few weeks ago. It was working just fine. I run an IMac with 2 gig of ram. My graphics card is a ATI,RadeonX1600.

Ok I have tried turning off OpenGL and it seems to be just the Opacity, but it still locks up even if I just raise or lower the opacity level or pick new texture. By the way I called apple tech yesterday and they offered to roll me back to previous update but if anything occurred as a result of it, it would cost me $49.00 per incident. The tech also said that adobe needs to be the one with an update for the problem. Man what a mess. Well that all being said I will just have to use my MacBookPro for my 3D work. I have no problem with Photoshop on it. How do I get Adobe to do an update for the problem.

  • Trackpad not responding to clicks

hi, i am using a macbook 13" alluminium. Lately( especially after lepoard 10.5.6 update ) the trackpad stops responding to tapping clicks( both single and multi touch ). I can't find any specific scenario for this. Most often it just stops responding after the left trackpad button is pressed. Sometimes though it just stops for no reason. The interesting thing is that this is not present in my windows OS(vista). Any help will b gr8ly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm sure that causes issues for some people but I know it's not the issue in my case. I have used this computer for months and only within the last week or two it starts happening. Also, even when placing my index finger flat at the bottom of the trackpad and deliberately clicking, it doesn't register. I can hear and feel the trackpad click, but nothing happens. Also note that I am temporarily hopefully using the tap to click option while I wait for a solution and it recognizes every click.

  • ITunes launches and then quits responding in windows 7.

iTunes launches and then quits responding...I have windows 7.  How do I correct the issue without having to check each song to see if it is a problem.  I have over 8000 of them and that would suck.

Hey Apple techs you going to help with this problem !!!!!!!!!??

  • What do I do when my silverlight plug quits responding

When I am on a website like facebook or netflix I get a message stating that the silverlight plug in has quit responding do I want to close it or continue. It has stopped responding when I am playing in a facebook game called farmtown and it has also quit when I am using netflix and watching videos. Is this plug in important and do I have to have it?

I have the most recent version of silverlight I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it to make sure. The trouble I am having still exists I am still getting the same message telling me that the silverlight plug in is either busy or not responding do I want to wait or cancel. When I click either wait or cancel mozilla freezes up and quits responding. I know I have to have the plugin but it is not doing what it is supposed to be doing.

  • NFS Mounted Directory And Files Quit Responding

I mounted a remote directory using NFS and I can access the mount point and all of its sub-directories and files. After a while, all of the sub-directories and files no longer respond when clicked; in column view there is no longer an icon nor any statistics for those files. If I go back and click on Network->Servers->myserver->its_subdirectories, it will eventually respond again.
I have found no messages in the system log. And nfsstat shows no errors.
I am using these these mount parameters with the Directory Utility->Mounts tab:
    ro net -P -T -3
Any idea why the NFS mounted directories and files quit responding?
    Thanks.

I may have found an answer to my own question.
It looks like automount will automatically unmount a file system if it has not been accessed in 10 minutes. This time-out can be changed using the automount command. I am going to try increasing this time-out value.
Here is part of the man page:
    SYNOPSIS
    automount [-v] [-c] [-t timeout]
    -t timeout
Set to timeout seconds the time after which an automounted file
system will be unmounted if it hasn't been referred to within
that period of time. The default is 10 minutes (600 seconds).

  • My mouse and trackpad arent responding the click on finder, i can use multitouch but not 1 touch. Aswell when i go to the findertab at the bottum with the mouse, app icons Does Not expand.

My trackpad is responding the click on finder, i can use multitouch but not leftclick/1 click/touch. Aswell when i go to the findertab at the bottom with the mouse, app icons Does Not expand. I had no problems with it before, but I'm very confused.

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!
    Thanks for the advice, Bee

  • Trackpad quits working multiple times per hour, is it defective?

I have a mid-2012 13" MBP. My trackpad quits working multiple times per hour. When this happens I have to remove my hand from it and wait a few seconds, then I can use it again. It started a few months after I got the machine last year and has gotten progressively worse. Is this a bug in OS X or is this some kind of malfunction? I need to know if I need to take this to an Apple Store to be fixed under warranty.

Yes, your issue has been posted many many times here.  Do a forum search and read the posts in the "More Like this" section as well as Apple's articles on the matter - Intel-based Apple Portables: Troubleshooting unresponsive trackpad issues and   Portables and Magic Trackpad: Jumpy or erratic trackpad operation
Always, take full advantage of your warranty before you lose it.  Call Apple Care and make sure you get a case number.  You should also consider purchasing Apple Care Protection plan.

  • The bottom half of my trackpad stopped responding to touches.

The bottom half of my trackpad stopped responding to touch.  The button still works fine, a USB mouse works fine, and the top half of the trackpad works fine.  Any ideas of what the problem could be?

I have the same problem.  My clicking works but I cannot drag.
