Trackpad sensitivity?

Greetings everyone!
I have just stepped up to a MacBook Intel Duo from an older ibook dual USB and I seem to be having some growing pains with my new trackpad
My Macbook's trackpad seems to be way more sensitive than my old one was. So sensitive in fact that the faintest brush of a finger is being interputed as a double tap. Just the act of moving a cursor around on the desktop is causing me fits as apps begin to mysteriously launch, close, minimize, etc. At first I thought I might be somehow just lightly brushing the clicker with an errant thumb, but this is not the case. This is definitely happening with one little old finger and just the trackpad itself.
This is beginning to drive me nuts. You should see how much fun it is to play backgammon when merely placing the cursor above a piece while you ponder the move causes it to take off and move on it's own.
I have checked system preferences and my trackpad settings are as follows:
Tracking Speed = halfway between SLOW and FAST
Double Click Speed = 100% FAST
two finger scroll - YES
horizontal scrolling - YES
clicking - YES
dragging - NO
tap with two fingers for secondary click - NO
ignore accidental input - YES
Beyond that I am at a loss. Is there some other way that I don't know about to adjust trackpad sensitivity so that just a whisper of a finger touch isn't sending the computer into automated chaos?

I was having the same problem, and I figured that it was because my fingers had a tendency to double tap, even though I was only intending to do it once. I would be scrolling through a webpage, and all of a sudden, the text would be selected. Originally, I had my settings to enable clicking on the track pad. This was the problem.
If you could live without using the trackpad as a clicking device and just use the button for that, I'd recommend disabling the clicking option for the trackpad in the system preferences. I haven't had the problem since I made the switch.

  • Trackpad sensitivity - MacBook Pro

Hi. I just purchased a new MacBook Pro 13' and really like it. One issue, however, is that I find that the touchpad is not as sensitive to tapping as my former Powerbook G4 touchpad. I seem to have to tap more than once to get the pad to recognize my "tap." Are there any others who have experienced this problem?
    Thanks,
    Richard

  • Magic Trackpad Sensitivity

Is there a way (3rd party software perhaps) to adjust the sensitivity of the Magic Trackpad?
I use the one-touch option in preferences (Tap to click - one touch finger) because this works best for me, however I find it too sensitive - I'm accidentally tapping things I don't want which is really frustrating.

    Hmm,
I have been using Mac's since they had the cute little handles in the top. I have no idea how many mice, track balls, pads..... I have used but it would be a large number.
If this is "simply an adjustment to the device issue", IMHO the thing is tooooo... sensitive. I have worked with mine for months and still have the same problems no matter what I do. There are times when no matter how much you call something a feature it fails to benefit the vast majority.
The other possibility is some sort of hardware/software malfunction in some of the track pads, hardware/software combinations...
There it went, for some reason, I could not type in all of pads ^ above, then it was like it was selecting some of the letters and not letting me type anything else. Tapping the track pad seemed to clear the problem. I don't think I even touched the pad before I saw the problem, I was just typing, until I saw the missing letters... It's kind of like the pad selects things for reasons only it understands...Or maybe it is a software bug, of some random nature, that got introduced with the track pad...Sometimes I just seem to be stuck, until I tap the track pad.
The fact that I am having exactly the same "other" issues the poster above mentions which I did not: added to the fact that person has apparently used multiple different Apple track pads without this problem, leads me to believe that "where there is smoke there is fire".
Maybe I will take it to the Apple Store and have it checked out.

  • Trackpad sensitivity since upgrade

Ever since up upgraded to lion, my trackpad is ultra sensitive. I'll have my thumb hovering over the pad while scrolling around or circling on a page, and it will think i've tapped it. I've checked all my settings and can't find anywhere that changes this. Anyone else have these issues? It's a bit irritating to be reading something and all of a sudden have another window open, or a link activated.

Power down the computer and clean the trackpad with a damp not wet microfiber cloth.
    Trackpad is very sensitive often.

  • Extreme trackpad sensitivity

    Hi,
I have a 13'' 2011 MacBook Air.  My problem is not with the trackpad itself, which works well. However, when my hands are in their normal position while working on the laptop (one on either side of the trackpad, resting on the surface of the computer) they seem to be sending signals to the trackpad. Moving my hand several inches to the right of the trackpad (but resting on the computer) will make the mouse move. Is this normal? It's been like this the whole time I've had the Mac. It is very frustrating to have these seemingly random motions popping up, just because of a normal hand position...

Yeah, I'm curious about this, too.
Is the sensitivity of individual keys adjustable?
    If so, how?

  • MBA 13" trackpad sensitivity is terrible around edges

I just purchased a MBA 13" today and noticed that towards the edges of the trackpad, maybe within 1 centimeter of the edge, none of my taps register as a click.  Also, if I slide my fingers along the edge of the left, top and right the cursor will move.  If i do that on the bottom I get no response. If i slide my finger inward from off the trackpad and onto the trackpad I get no reponse on the left, top and right until I get a litte more towards the center.  My main fear is that this is some kind of hardware bug or software bug that won't be fixed by apple.  Thoughts?
Next, a habit of mine that I developed on my old MBP was to scroll by placing two fingers on the trackpad and moving only one finger.  This doesn't seem to work reliably on my new MBA.  Is this because of OSX Lion or is this also a potential defect of the new MBAs?  Might this be because of the new "zoom" feature incorporated into Lion.

It is a multitouch glass trackpad. So, it is normal to have it not to scroll at the bottom of the trackpad or anywhere you just mentioned it would not scroll. It is normal,so do not worry! it is not a defect. My MacBook Air late 2010 has the same thing as your new MacBook Air. It is fine. Do not have to panic!!
As for the scrolling with one finger issue, you must scroll with two fingers sdown. Lion will zoom in with two fingers on the trackpad. It is SUPER sensitive, just like on the iDevices. When I installed Lion on my MacBook air, Late 2010, the scrolling also has been an issue for me. It always zooms in... So, I brought it to a apple store to have them help me downgrade to Snow Leopard for me. At that point when I bought the MacBook Air, it came with Snow Leopard installed so I had the USB stick bundled with the MBA.. As for the newer models that shipped pre-installed with OSX Lion, did not come with the handy USB stick. And no, you cannot use the USB stick or CD that came with your old MacBook Air because MacBook Air OS has a custom firmware number. So, no need to worry for all of the issues that you have just mentioned. Comgrats on your purchase with your new MacBook Air though!! Be sure to celebrate its birthday wen it turns a year though!!

  • SR trackpad sensitivity?

Just wondering if anyone else is finding the trackpad too sensitive?
I have the "Ignore accidental trackpad input" checked but when typing the mouse pointer moves about every once in a while. It is a bit distracting.
The last SR went back because the trackpad was even more super sensitive and no matter what the mouse pointer moved all the time when typing.
I didnt have this problem with the MBP 2.2 or PowerBook.
    Do I just ignore it?
    frank

Well, with respect to accidental trackpad input, another key to this problem is that Apple is, like, the only laptop manufacturer who insists on putting the trackpad in the center of the unit and NOT the center of the letter keys, which is shifted to the left. Even centering your hands on the home keys (the ones with nubbies) puts your right hand clearly further over top of the trackpad than the left hand. Of course there's gonna be accidental input.
    <rant>
Notice, further, other 17" laptop manufacturers which give their paying customers a full and separate numeric keypad with the extra space. Apple wastes it with super wide speaker grilles (and no bigger speakers than the 15"). Those other laptops with a full numeric keypad have to shift the trackpad far to the side so it is centered under the letter keys- something I think Apple (or Jonathan Ive) is actually incapable of doing.
You know, give more features, in a more functional way, at the expense of it just looking symmetrical. Just look how long Apple stuck with the hockey puck mouse, or the single button mouse, or no tablet model, or no real lightweight model, none with a modem, none with VGA out, none with "S" video out, none with fingerprint security, none with internal broadband modem, none with external wifi control or antenna jack, none with different capacity batteries, none with user selectable expansion bays, none with more than 2 or 3 USB ports, none with HD DVD or BluRay, none with flash media slots, none with ports on the back to hide the morass of cables from view while working, none with touch screens, etc, etc.
Apple used to make computers that pushed the boundaries. ADB, LocalTalk, USB, WiFi, monitor spanning, and more. Now they haven't changed the design of the machine in so many years we can't remember what an innovative Mac laptop was. We are relegated to complaining about what doesn't now work as well as it did on the last generation of PowerBook.

  • Trackpad Sensitivity Issue After Snow Leopard Upgrade

I have a Late 2008 MBP/2.53 Ghz and prefer to use tap to click/2 finger secondary tap.
After upgrading to Snow Leopard (to v.10.6.6 as a clean install), linked webpages and files/folders often open when a second finger touches the trackpad accidentally even when pressed very gently.
The same happens if a third finger touches the trackpad if I am scrolling through a page with 2 fingers. Sometimes when pausing/hovering over a link, part of the page surrounding the hyperlink will highlight and can sometimes the link will activate without any additional accidental touch. I have slowed down the tracking and double click speed in preferences, but this makes no difference.
The funny thing is, some days the problems are worse than other days, the trackpad seems to have a mind of it's own! These issues never happened with Leopard, and it is very frustrating.
Post SL upgrade, I have also noticed that the Magsafe adapter sometimes needs a little wiggle before it will start charging, and occasionally, the red 'close' symbol at the top left of the page does not always activate and I have to start tapping elsewhere before trying to close the page again.
My parents have SL installed natively on their MBP (Spring 2010), and their MBP does not encounter any of these problems.
Disk Utility shows Javavirtualmachine differences, which I trust can be ignored as the differences are non critical, or could these issues be having an effect on SL?
I have AppleCare which expires in November and I want this sorted out asap. I could just revert back to using Leopard, but as I have paid £30 for Snow Leopard it would be a waste of money.
I'm not sure whether my AppleCare cover these issues seeing as SL wasn't natively installed on the Mac when purchased?
If anyone can help with these issues it would be very much appreciated.
    Many thanks

After installing SL, i cannot get wellsfargo "account login" to work for any account of mine, other financial secure sites work fine, i.e. fidelity or vanguard, I can access the main screen of wellsfargo but login fails ... screen i get says Safari can't connect to the server and as follows: "Safari can’t open the page “https://online.wellsfargo.com/das/cgi-bin/session.cgi?" plus some more gibberish stuff.... i tried switching to firefox and it works fine .... never had any trouble before ..... tried safari reset, safari empty cache, and maintenace that applied ...... still no luck!! hope they get this bug fixed , my other computer an older mac mini works fine. any help????? never had any problem before SL

  • Changed trackpad sensitivity in Lion?

So I'm using Lion since yesterday and there's something that annoys the **** out of me.
Did Apple change the sensivity setting of the trackpad?
I am so used to Snow Leopard that i simply know how to tip on the trackpad so that it clicks. With Lion, this changed, now i have to tip two or three times on it until it finally clicks, selects or whatever.
    Anybody else encouter that "problem"?

    Hi mattair,
No, you're not the only one, I had that feeling since I've upgraded, today I decided to google this and I found quite some posts of people with the same problem... I used to barely touch the trackpad or magic trackpad before and now I end up actually clicking to make sure my action is taken... I hope someone at apple reads this and fix it somewhen soon.
frontrow gone and this trackpad thing makes me really regret having upgraded...

  • Can i reduce sensitivity of trackpad to avoid inadvertent activation?

I enjoy use of the activated "Tap Track Pad" option in System Preferences/Trackpad for secondary clicking, however, I experience many annoying inadvertent click activations in that mode. Is there any way to reduce the trackpad sensitivity to avoid those inadvertent clicks?

Whatever control you have is what is provided in the Keyboard & Mouse preferences. There are a couple of third-party utilities you could try to see if they provide additional control features:
    MultiClutch
    SideTrack
You will find them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • '09 macbook trackpad super sensitive

Anyone know what could be going on?  I will attempt to type with my hands resting on the sides around the trackpad and randomly the cursor will move; select something and delete or move to a different section of whats being typed. Very annoying when trying to type a document and in the middle of a word it will move two rolls up and add the letters there instead of where I am typing or will select what i am typing, delete it. I usually catch it in time before anything major happens, but very frustrating. Seems to disappear if i do not rest my palms on the laptop but hard to type for long periods of time. I have unchecked 'clicking' and 'dragging' in the system preferences as well as checked 'ignore accidental trackpad input. please help

I'm unfamiliar with the CarboniteDaemon but you think your trackpad sensitivity issue may be linked to that?  Are you able to disable that and test?  Maybe test in Safe Mode as described in this article.

  • Trackpad is over sensitive

After changing a few of the preferences on my trackpad it seems to have become so sensitive to touch that it will jump to a new page or otherwise move around even if I only brush it with my finger.  This is extemely annoying to say the least, as it happens with no intent on my part.  It seems I no longer need to click the thing, just touch it lightly.  How do I get it back to being clickable for actually going to a new site?

i have found that my sensitive trackpad was caused by contamination inside the laptop...   i removed the battery and cleaned the surface that touches the bottom of the trackpad and got some electrical contact cleaner at radio shack and sprayed the bottom of the trackpad and the top of the trackpad where dust and grime can get down in the space around the trackpad...   the electrical contact cleaner has a liquid in it that does not conduct, but i sprayed immediately with the canned compressed air to blow it off and dry it more rapidly...   since cleaning, the trackpad sensitivity has disappeared....

  • Trackpad

hi my trackpad is dead...not working at all...please help. i tried the trackpad sensitivity....before the complete breakdown.....please help!!!!!!!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

  • Trackpad/Keypad issue.

    Hey everyone,
I have a Blackberry Curve 9360 and noticed today some issues with the trackpad. When my curve is on the home screen, the trackpad will not work. I have to press a punch of random keys all at once in order to get some keypad to work. Using the search option I can then access other menus and the trackpad will work in these other menus, It will not work at all on the home screen and will only scroll in the other menus. I can receive calls and texts still but cannot answer calls as my keypad only works every now and then. After looking through the posts I tried to update the OS using Blackbery Desktop Software. It successfully completed the software update, however now my phone is stuck on the terms and conditions page, which I can not scroll to the bottom of to accept. My phone did not get wet and I have tried pulling the battery out and letting it sit. The trackpad does work since it scrolls in other menus, so please do not say the trackpad is broken. Any ideas? Is anyone else having this problem?

I am having a similar issue with a Curve (9360) and Bold (9900)... I support a wide range of BlackBerries for work. Intermittently, the trackpads will stop working vertically on almost any screen (messages, menu screens, etc).
The workaround I have found to temporarily resolve the issue is to move left and right; this will work and seems to allow the user to move vertically again. Since this seems to be a widespead issue, will different models and different OS versions, I believe it might be hardware issue, hopefully the next update will resolve the problems!
The Bold has the latest OS installed.
The Curve is one OS version behind. I've been trying to get the client in so I can update, but he's been busy.
Has anyone else had this issue? If so, try moving left and right, then up and down again. It should work.
Here's what I'm having them try now:
Options -> Device -> Device and Status Information
On this screen, type in the word test
Press the BB Menu button, then select Start.
Click on Yes for all of the popups and de-select all the options except for Trackball (at the top). Click on Run.
Go through the testing and if the trackball isn't working properly, enter the reason during the test.
After this, try going to the following:
Options -> Typing and Language -> Trackpad Sensitivity
I would try playing with the vertical sensitivity, since this is where we are having an issue. Assuming it is at 70, move it up to 80, save and test this out. If you notice you continue to have issues with it, move it up to 90, etc.

  • SLATEBOOK 14: How disable -or at least lower sensitivity of built-in touchpad?

One of the most aggravating annoyances with this terrific laptop is that the touchpad is way too sensitive. When using the keyboard, users constantly trigger disruptions on the desktop because palms, sleeves ... sometimes it feels like all you have to do is wave over the touchpad and a windows fly off or cursors lose focus, etc. etc.
Isn't there some way to disable - or, at the very least, make less sensitive - the Slatebook touchpad?
So far, HP Chat advised to set the "Touch & Hold" setting (under Accessibility) to "Short".
Also, I found down under "Language & Input" these settings:
    - Pointer Speed
    - Palm Check
    - Enable Click
Are any of these relevant to the built-in trackpad sensitivity issue?

Palm check is usually helpful with this problem.
