Trackpad stuck/not clicking

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro. The trackpad seems to be stuck. I cannot click the left side. It won't even make a clicking noise. The right side does make a clicking noise. Not sure how to fix this... I've been reading about people saying the battery tends to get big sometimes.  So I am including the battery information cause I'm not sure how to tell if that's what's causing my trackpad to not click

  • Trackpad stuck in "click" position

I came back to my Macbook Pro (13" mid-2012) with the mouse part of the trackpad stuck in the "click" position. It's not currently clicking/dragging anything, but I am unable to use the trackpad like normal; instead I have to tap the pad. Nothing was spilled on it, and there is no debris stuck in the crack. Unfortunately I'm in a country far from an Genius Bars- is there anything I can do to fix it? Thanks!

Problem eventually gets worse after lengthy usage. I'm noticing that the system is also hot when it gets like this. After putting it to sleep for a bit and coming back it wirks fine again. Overheating seems to be a likely cause and I'm sad to think about leaving my machine with Apple for however long it takes to fix it. Seems that I have little choice, especially after reading the many posts here about similar trackpad issues.
Quality control feels like it's slipping at Apple.

  • Trackpad issues - not clicking properly

right side will click including click sound but left side will only slightly depress with no sound. What should I do, this problem has only just occured in the last day.
    Thanks

    Enable Tap to click.
System Preference > Trackpad > Point & Click
Check mark the box for "Tap to click".
If the trackpad does not work properly you have to take the MBP to the Apple store
to have it checked. Battery needs to be checked too.
    Best.

  • The Trackpad does not clicking

hi everyone my Trackpad doesn't clicking but the touch is working any idea
    my regards

You may have a swollen battery, which is below the trackpad and puts pressure on it from underneath. If you are comfortable in opening up the bottom enclosure (if your model has builtin battery), you can examine the battery for yourself.

  • Right side of trackpad will not click.

Over the past couple days I have noticed my trackpad acting up, and have realized that the right half, or at least most of it, does not respond to clicks. Tap to click still works, though I don't usually use this feature, and I can still move the cursor when I drag the right side. It is only the physical click that seems to be broken. What causes this issue, and would this be covered under my extended warranty if I had to get it repaired?

This just happened to my MacBook Pro. Were you able to take it to Apple for a replacement of the broken parts?

  • Trackpad is not clicking if im on another user

    Please help
I notice that if log on to another user the trackpad only works for scrolling not for clicking it

You don't see this when you click on the Trackpad option in System Preferences under that User's ID:
If you don't have those boxes, perhaps it is a difference between our OSX levels.....

  • Difference between clicking trackpad vs not clicking?

On a Macbook Pro, is there any difference between clicking the trackpad hard enough that it makes the mechanical click sound vs tapping it, which makes no sound?  You seem to get the same functionality.
I'd like to mask out the clicking noise while doing screen recordings.  It seems I can accomplish everything with silent taps that I can accomplish through clicking.  Although the silent taps take some getting use to.
I don't believe the mouse can do this?  You must depress until it clicks?  If that is the case, getting a trackpad would be the only option for eliminating the clicking sound?

Yes, trackpads have a mode that can be enabled in System Preferences to enable Tap to Click. There are almost no advantages to clicking the trackpad deeply. Some prefer that confirming "click" noise. Otherwise, it should seem as if it might spare your trackpad from a little wear and tear, while keeping it quiet as you record. The Magic Mouse does require a click with noise unless you use a 3rd party app.
To get to Tap to Click in the System Preferences, go to the Apple on the top left of the status bar, choose System Preferences, tap "Trackpad," click the Point and Click tab, and check, "Tap to Click."
Here's a link to the Apple Magic Trackpad on the Apple Store website, where you can read reviews, see pricing, etc. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC380LL/A/magic-trackpad
    Good luck with your recordings!

  • My trackpad is not working it moves the arrow but I cannot click on anything or drag anything

My trackpad is not working on my MacBook pro. I can get the arrow to move but I cannot open files or drag files when I click.

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to bare metal from any of them.) Don’t erase the Lion recovery partition, if present.

  • My trackpad does not allow me to click/highlight copy a section of text

I used to be able to click then while holding down my finger highlight an area of text to either copy and paste or to search. Not any more! Also my trackpad will not allow me to click hold and move things. Very frustrating! I do not want to have to use a mouse.

Go to System Preferences>TrackPad and try toggling the trackpad setting and changed that they are correct.

  • Trackpad "clicking" and "highlighting," but I'm not clicking

As the thread title says, my MacBook Air's trackpad is randomly clicking on things and highlighting on things that I'm not instructing it to do. I've checked and I made sure that the "tap to click" option was turned off, so I don't feel this is user error. Anybody have any explanation or ideas?

Got the same problem when I opened my Trackpad preferences and turned on "Dragging" (underneath the Tap to Click box).
Turned it back off, which fixed the problem.
Though, I must click down the trackpad in order to drag, but I can live with that
Don't know if you all use those settings, but if you do, turn off Dragging until Apple releases a fix and it'll work all right
If not... Apple, somethings messed up with Tap to Click's Dragging function.

  • My trackpad works perfectly fine but will not click anymore, without the clicking sound its hard to use

My track pad works 100% perfectly but it will not click, which makes it a little hard to work out where i am supposed to click and take a bit longer to work out what i am doing

Try cleaning around the edges of the trackpad
Also check your settings >Sys Pref>Trackpad  and see if something changed.

  • X300: TrackPad will not move mouse cursor for several seconds after clicking any TrackPoint button

I have a new X300 with a clean install of Windows XP (SP3) and all of the latest drivers from the Lenovo website.  Whenever I click any of the three TrackPoint buttons, the TrackPad is not able move the mouse cursor for about 2 seconds.  During this time, I can still move the cursor with the TrackPoint.  I did not experience this behavior with my previous laptop, which was a ThinkPad T42 running Windows XP (SP2).
    Thanks for any suggestions!

I once installed XP using my great Unattended-selfmade-fullypatched-etc-DVDs (I call it Windows XP Ready to Go Edition) on my X300 and had zero problems. This is also based on SP3.
Perhaps the order of installing servicepack and several drivers is important.
I start off with an SP3-integrated installationof Windows XP, patch it fully first and then go on with driver updates (Chipset first, then ACPI, LAN, WLAN, Sound, Graphics, Input devices.
At least its possible to get it working flawlessly, my Installation proved that.
I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND INSTALLING SP3 AS AN UPDATE, ONLY START FROM SCRATCH USING AN SP3-INTEGRATED SETUP.

  • Mouse and Trackpad not clicking.

    Hi there,
Sometimes my mouse and trackpad will stop clicking. I will be able to move the cursor but nothing else. After a while the use will return. Why is this and how can I repair it?
    Thanks

Sounds like a top case issue. You may want to bring that in. If you have already tried re-installing the OS than it is more than likely a hardware issue.
    Good Luck.
