Trackpad, vista 64 and secondary click

Is anyone else having a problem with secondary clicks in 64-bit vista? When I try to secondary click in the taskbar and some other applications (for example, magic the gathering online), it appears that a middle-click is actually sent to the OS rather than a right-click.
Anyone else experiencing a problem with this? I filed a bug on bugreport.apple.com, but thought I would also check here to see if anyone has a workaround.

Hi,
I have the same problem with Win7 64-bits on my mid 2009 MacBook Pro. To right click, I sometimes have to use 3 fingers. Hadn't noticed the difference between applications though, but after having checked it a bit, it seems you're definitely right about that.
Installed the BootCamp 3.1 update, and the problem is still there. Not a big issue though.

  • Magic Mouse Primary and Secondary Clicks Switched

Recently I picked up a Magic Mouse and have since found some very strange things that I don't know how to fix:
The primary and secondary clicks are switched. As in, under mouse settings when I select the secondary click to be on the right, only the primary click works on the right side and everything else is a secondary click. It is also very annoying because every time I have more than one finger touching the surface it counts as a secondary click. If anyone knows how to fix this I would really appreciate feedback.
I looked around in settings and couldn't find anything regarding this matter. I fiddled with some stuff but never got it working properly.
    Feedback much appreciated!

Looking at another thread in this forum, I see some people who had older apple mice installed before the magic mouse are having this problem with the magic mouse.
I had an older wireless mouse that would take right-clicks before I set up the magic mouse. Unfortunately when I connect the older wireless mouse I can no longer access it's preferences. It only gives me the preferences a generic one button mouse. Somewhere there must be some set of files I can delete and it will forget this old mouse.
I am pretty disheartened after a week of this. One of the benefits to a mac is that I shouldn't have to dig around removing drivers and such

  • Magic Trackpad: Secondary Click

I cannot view Help for my Magic Trackpad (see related post on that), which should have been able to answer this simple question. On the Trackpad preferences screen, I have clicked the box for Secondary Click, assigning it to the lower left corner of the trackpad. I assume Secondary Click means right click or control click—is that correct? And no matter if it is or it is not, there seems to be no difference when I click in the lower left corner as opposed to anywhere else on the pad. What's happening (or not happening)?
    Thanks,
    Ben

You are correct. Secondary click means right click. Does the "Secondary Tap" work?
When you assign the click to the bottom left, that doesn't mean tapping the pad, it means pushing the pad down on the lower left or right sides. The legs have contacts in them and they depress.
    Hope that helps.

  • HT203171 Magic Trackpad fail. It keeps clicking, sticking, selecting everything to the point of unusability. I'm lucky I have my old "mighty" mouse as a back up. SO annoyed right now. What gives anyways? Why did the trackpad just stop working all of a sud

    It's bugging me so bad.
I loved everything about it too, the swiping, gestures and everything are so intuitive. Now, no more thatn 20 minutes ago it just goes crazy. Rebooted the computer. Changed the batteries. Disconnected and reconnected everything. ARGGGGGG.
So lucky I kept an old wireless Might Mouse around, but it feels like being stuck in the past.
    Now I'm really upset.
OK, so that was mostly a rant, but man, I'm really ticked. My productivity has gone down in half! I was very acustomed to the trackpad by now - 1 year after purchasing my iMac... and conveniently AFTER the warranty. Those things are like $70!!!
So far there doesn't seem to be a solution. I know it's not a battery or anything - the trackpad is separate from the computer. Tried cleaning the trackpad several times, and no effect.
    Please help -
    Thanks,

Forget everything I wrote about bluetooth device interference having anything to do with this issue. I was obviously headed down a rabbit trail with this suggestion.
What I've since determined (that is working for me) is to focus in on the small round bumpers on the backside of the trackpad. I suspect that over time these probably loosen and become more sensitive or even stuck. This might explain the auto-selecting in the erratic behavior of the trackpad.
As a workaround, I used a felt cloth (folded several times) to elevate the backside of the trackpad so that the bumpers no longer touch my desk. This takes a loose or stuck bumper switch out of the picture. Then I enabled the trackpad features for "Tap to click" and "Secondary click," which are located at:  System Preference > Trackpad > Point & Click.
Only if you have serious computer repair skills would I advise attempting to adjust the sensitivy of the bumper switch: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repairing+Magic+Trackpad+Click+Feature/6171/1
As for myself, I'll be purchasing a new trackpad tomorrow morning. I love this device, but it seems that once the bumpers begin to wear out, they do so quite abruptly, and your best course is to get a replacement before pulling out any hair you still have left.
Again, my apologies about the mis-cue on the bluetooth issue. Good luck!

  • Help! The secondary click on my trackpad for right and left bottom corners stopped working after 10.9.3 update??

MacBook Air 11" 2013...did the OSX update for 10.9.3 on 5/17/14 and my secondary click on my trackpad just stopped working. Checked the system preferences and tried the other corner found it doesn't work for either bottom corners for secondary clicking. It will pull up the secondary click menu when I have the "two finger tap" option selected, but I don't use that one at all, it's not a natural function for me.
I tried doing a hard reset 3 times and that didn't do it. Then I reinstalled the combo update for 10.9.3 and that didn't work either....
    ... ..any ideas??
    -lost without a secondary clicker

The full release of 10.9.3 is available from App Store now. You can re download the full version from your Purchase tab in App Store. After download there will be Install OSX Maverics in Applications folder. Before installing OSX on top of the one on your system, copy the a install aoSX Mavericks to your external drive or any location. You can copy it to Applications folder for reinstall after that if you want.
The new download will be 10.9.3. Before doing so, please try to boot into safe boot, by holding shift key and power on. Try your secondary mouse click to see if it work. If it is the same, then it will be driver corruption, try reinstall will help.

  • MacBook Pro Trackpad Secondary Click not working properly - switching apps

I have a MacBook Pro 15" (new Core 2 Duo) with 10.4.8. On my main account, when I try and use the trackpad's two-finger-click to perform the secondary click functionality, I have a problem where instead of showing the secondary menu (same as control-click) it instead shows me the application switch screen (same as you see when entering command-tab).
I logged in under a new user account and enabled secondary click and it works properly -- so this appears to be either a conflict/issue in a plist (though I deleted the plist for mouse and keyboard and the issue still remains) or possibly with some other application/utility that is installed.
Without recreating my world one-by-one, any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Brian
MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 15" 2.33 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Using SOHO Notes, Yojimbo, StuffIt, and QuickSilver

    Update on the situation:
    1) Reboot in Safe Mode (shift-key down at start-up) -- secondary click still shows the application switcher.
    2) Ran Onyx -- Execute the defaults (no others) in the Automation tab and after rebooting the issue still persists.
    3) I removed the Microsoft drivers from my system and all plist files -- and reinstalled the MS drivers. On first use of the right-button on the mouse, I got the same "secondary click" response that I get with the trackpad. Before the uninstall it had worked correctly. I remember looking at the MS Mouse config options and it showed the right button performing a control-click. Now, with the preferences at their defaults from the software removal and reinstallation, I see there is an option -- and it is the default option, that the right-mouse button performs a "secondary click".
So it isn't a trackpad or mouse issue, it is an issue that somehow the default system behavior for a secondary click has been changed from displaying the alternate menu to showing the application switcher.
So the question is, what application or utility changed that? I was evaluating the Apple Mighty Mouse a few months ago and decided against it -- the right sensor seemed to fail often. Did that have an option to modify the secondary-click? I have Google and searched for tersm like ["secondary click" setting change modification hack, etc] and haven't seen any mention of that ability -- but clearly on my machine under my main user account, this is happening.
I hope that helps get one step closer.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Right-click with 2 fingers on Windows Vista taskbar and nothing appears

I just updated my Bootcamp to 2.1, I thought it would solve my problem
"Right-click with 2 fingers on Windows Vista taskbar and nothing appears" but I still have this problem, I cannot right-click on my windows vista at all.
though, right-click on the notification area works.
right-click = pressing the trackpad with 2 fingers.

Now I have figured out I have to use 3 fingers instead of 2 fingers.
but in the BootCamp Control Panel there is an option that says
    * Use 2 fingers for right-click

  • I used to be able to have two ways to secondary click in 10.6.  Now I can only pick one in System Preferences/Trackpad.

Is there any way I can have secondary click activated by two fingered tap on trackpad AND by clicking the bottom right of the trackpad?
    I have a Macbook, Late 2008

They've consolidated the options as you see.  You can still two fingered tap and click but you need to use two fingers to click.  You can do this anywhere on the trackpad.

  • No secondary click on Vista

I just installed Vista on my Macbook pro (late 2008) and the secondary click doesn't work. I went on BootCamp preferences and there is only the two fingers choice... and, this also.. doesn't work..
Does anyone know how to fix it?

i had the same problem as well but i just use an external mouse // i dont really use windoze other than to convert my WMA music collection to MP3 or to tether my windoze mobile phone as the bluetooth PAN dont work in OSX so im not really bothered by it // did u try 2 finger click instead of 2 finger touch for a right click? /// have yo ran all software updates for windoze itself and the apple software update on vista as there are two updates you can run.

  • What is secondary click and if I had it on...

would it stop my right click from working?? Thanks.

In the Apple world a "right click" is known as a "secondary click". It is off by default, You have to enable it in Systems Preferences for your mouse and/or trackpad.
On the trackpad it's a 2 finger tap.
This secondary click will produce the same results as a CNTL-click.

  • After 10.9.3 update MacBook Air 11" trackpad secondary click won't respond at all?

    Hello!
I updated to 10.9.3 earlier this week on my MacBook Air 11" and things were running smoothly but then this morning I was cleaning up my bookmark folders and tried to use the secondary click on my trackpad (right-click, which is set to the bottom of the trackpad) it would not respond. I closed out of what I was doing and I tried to close applications on the dock using the secondary click method as I have in the past and it just does not respond.
I made sure I had it selected in system preferences as the method to use on the track pad after check it out in different applications. Unselected it reselected it. No change.
This macbook had been restarted a couple of times since the update too.
I don't get how it will work and then not work. So lame.
Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

  • Erratic Secondary Click with Magic Trackpad

Just bought the Magic Trackpad for use with iMac and 10.6.8.
Mostly I am happy with it, but I cannot consistently get the secondary click (right click) to work. I would say ~90% of the time the right click behaves as a left click.
For instance, when using Safari 5.1, sometimes right clicking on a link works and brings up the contextual menu, but mostly it behaves like a left-click. I have Secondary Click enabled and set to Bottom Right Corner.
FWIW, the Two Finger Secondary Tap works consistently.
    Thanks,
    Jim

My iTunes won't update on my computer. I have windows vista. I can open up itunes and when I click on "check for updates" it asks if I want to download iTunes version 11.1.5 and I click "Download iTunes" but then nothing happens. Sometimes uptop the loading bar will appear but for only a split second. I have tried restarting, shutting down, I cannot figure out why it won't download. What's happening and how do I fix it?

Try updating using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:

I need help. I've been using MacBook aluminum 13" for awhile and everything works perfectly. But just recently my disk couldn't be insert after I reject a DVD out. And my trackpad couldn't be coner click but the sensibility tap is all working?
How could I solve this issue? And am I able to solve it myself or do I have to sent it to repair at Mac centre in singapore and how much would it cost?
