Trackpoint and ps2 mouse on thinkpad t23

I have an old Thinkpad t23 http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T23. Everything works just fine but when i insert a ps2 mouse in the port dmesg doesn't show it and the mouse acts the same as the trackpoint, instead of scrolling by wheel it uses wheel emulation. When i plug in an usb mouse dmesg recognises it. and scrolling works as it should. Could be that the ps2 and trackpoint are hardwired or am i doing something wrong ?

Hi, mkmchugh
If there is such an option available, it would be with the mouse settings. Do you see anything related to disabling them with a USB mouse connected when you go to Mouse under Control panel and go to I believe is the Thinkpad tab?

  • [K8N NEO3-F] Problem with USB keyboard and PS2 mouse after upgrading BIOS

    Hello everyone!
I have upgraded BIOS from 1.1 to 1.4... I have Sempron 2600 (64bit) so BIOS v.1.1 did not recognise it.
The motherboard works, but after upgrading I have a small problem with my keyboard and mouse.
When I use USB keyboard my PS2 mouse doesn't work. When I connect PS2 keyboard mouse works!!!
Can you tell me what's wrong?
    Thanks, bartull@
PS. Does BIOS v.1.3 recognise Sempron 64bit? Can you give me a link to it?

I think that the problem may have been caused by flashing either with liveupdate or with winflash.  I had the problem when i used winflash correctly (shutting down all programs, checking all the boxes to clear bootblock and cmos) but had usb keyboard connected during flash.  My suggestion is to reflash with floppy to last bios version that worked using only ps2 mouse and keyboard with the following instructions:
DOS floppy flash shall be performed with :
    awfl833d.exe w7030nms.180 /py /sn /wb /cc /cd /cp /f /e
(Replace biosfilename with appropriate version for Neo1/neo2 etc , switches remain the same )
    After flash is complete :
TURN OFF PSU (don't restart) wait 15 seconds
Turn on again , press the power button .
Enter BIOS and load optimized defaults (NO OTHER CHANGES) , save + exit
Boot the system again with the floppy in the drive to let the DMI pool build and update itself .
If that works, then reflash to the bios you tried before with the same procedure.  Once you have stable system with ps2 keyboard and mouse working, re-enter bios and enable usb and keyboard support as a lot of bios' have it disabled by default for some strange reason.
    Good luck.

  • Is it Possible to have different sensitivities for trackpoint and bluetooth mouse.

I have an x200. I recently purchased an interlink electronics bluetooth mouse and connection and setup worked great.
The only problem is that the sensitivity that is good for my tackpoint is WAY too sensitive for the mouse.
Is there a way to set up different sensitivities for the bluetooth mouse and the trackpoint so that i don't have to toggle the sensitivity every time I plug in my mouse?

Thanks, but I understand the varying inherent sensitivities. I was just wondering if i could adjust a setting or install drivers or something that will automatically change the sensitivity setting when my mouse is connected to the computer. I'm looking for that or something that will specify sensitivity settings for my mouse without affecting the trackpoint.
I have an x200 running Vista Ultimate with the lenovo trackpoint drivers.

  • Thinkpad t23 series lights and button symbols diagram.

thinkpad t23 series lights and button symbols diagram.
I would like to get a diagram that lists the lights and the Thinkpad button along with its symbols. Like an arrow pointing to a light and telling me the X is functioning or not, along with the rest of speaker? symbols. Fn combos and their definitions would be good too.
I do not have the owner/user manual for the T23 2647TU but I imagine it would be printed in some form there?
Could anyone help me with this by directing to a web site or screen shot to the users manual that shows this information? I would appreciate it.
    Thank You,
    Bob
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Bob,
so here are some screen shots for you and others who may read in the future. This is a nice discovery for me also. Very useful, complete User's Guide for T23, XP version, which  I actually installed on my W500 running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. The possibilities are endless, not just for T23, but for other older models which possibly have a User's Manual archived online. It means I could simply cut and paste so many steps of information which for myself are so obvious and elementary,  but will be invaluable to one of my young students learning basic computing skills. And the fact the User's Guide runs on my W500 means only the student needs to have a T23 (or whatever other machine in their hands), I don't need to have another T23 set up to access the manual.
Here are a few step-by-step guidelines which may can help you and others reading in the future. Don't mind me putting so many details. As a teacher I like to explain things in such a way that even if one my 3rd grade students were to read this post they could follow the steps. Some people have never really used a laptop at all before and will be glad for simple, detailed steps:
How to install T23 Access User's Guide on a Windows 7 machine (should be nearly identical procedure for XP or Vista):
    (1) As mentioned before just go to the Drivers and software - ThinkPad T23 download page:  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT072383. There, under the "Software and utility" category you will find: Access online User's Guide for Windows - ThinkPad T23: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS001263. Download the file and transfer it to your T23 using a USB flash drive.  (In my case I downloaded it directly onto my W500)
    (2) Double-click to run the downloaded file. It will extract setup files to C:\DRIVERS\ATP_PKG by default.
    (3) Click the START button ---> Computer----> Drivers ---> and double click to open the "ATP_PKG" folder. Double-click to run the "SETUP" application file.
    (4) After installation, you can navigate to Start Menu ---> All programs ----> Thinkpad ---> Thinkpad information, and RIGHT-CLICK "Access Thinkpad". You can then  choose to "Pin to taskbar" and/or "Send to desktop (create shortcut)" which will create an ACCESS THINKPAD logo right on your desktop with the cool old IBM logo which you can see in one of the pictures.
I have included a few snapshots showing my W500 with T23 User's Guide installed: Main welcome screen with cute T23 animation (hence the  blur);  Main menu- notice even a link to reach IBM for warranty information (if anyone still has a warranty on their T23, joking of course); And "everyday use" menu which includes status light indicators and FN-key assignments you asked about. So you see how useful these old "User manuals" can be, because if anyone comes on the Forum we can just cut and paste information from the User's Manual. Some people (especially young people ) need that level of clarity and simplicity. And it's just a small file, 21.8 MB downloaded onto my W500.
Below I <CUT> and <PASTED> a section from the User's Guide. Here are the Function keys you asked about (the pictures which didn't come out in cutting and pasting got replaced below by " "  and are just little asterisk symbols and a small diagram showing where FN key and Home/End keys are). Of course this can be remedied by taking screen shots instead:
     Function keys
The Fn key function enables you to change operational features instantly. To use this function, press and hold the Fn key (1); then press a function key (2)--F1 to F12, PgUp, Home, or End.
The following shows the functions of the Fn key with other keys:
    Power conservation or battery power
Fn + F3: Turn off the computer display, leaving the screen blank. To turn the computer display on again, press any key or press the TrackPoint(R) pointer. Also the computer display is turned on if the ac adapter is attached to or detached from the computer.
Fn + F4: Put your computer in standby mode. To return to normal operation, press the Fn key independently, without pressing a function key.
    Notes:
This mode is called suspend mode in Windows(R) 95 and Windows NT(R).
In Windows 2000 and Windows XP, this combination of buttons functions as a sleep button. You can change the settings so that pressing it puts the computer into hibernation mode or even shut the computer down.
Fn + F12: Put your computer into hibernation mode. To return to normal operation, press the power button for less than four seconds.
Note: To use Fn+F12 for hibernation in Windows 2000 and Windows XP, you must have IBM PM device driver installed on your computer.
For information on the power management function, refer to Extending battery life.
    Other functions
Fn + F7: Display output on the computer display, an attached external monitor, or both. Pressing this combination causes the display to go from the computer display to the external monitor, then to both together, and then to the computer display again:
    External monitor (CRT display)
Computer display and external monitor (LCD + CRT display)
    Computer display (LCD)
Note: This function is not supported when different desktop images are displayed on the computer display and the external monitor, or in certain cases in which the same desktop images are displayed on both screens, but the refresh rates of the screens are controlled separately by the system.
Fn + F8: Switch the computer screen size between expanded and normal mode if your computer display image is smaller than the physical display.
Note: This function is not supported in Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
Fn + PgUp: Turn the ThinkLight on or off.
Note: The status of the ThinkLight, on or off, is shown on the screen for a few seconds when you press Fn + PgUp.
Fn + Home: The computer display becomes brighter.
Fn + End: The computer display becomes less bright.
Note for the Fn key lock function
The following setup gives you the same effect as when you press and hold the Fn key and then press a function key.
Start the ThinkPad(R) Configuration Program. Click the Accessibility button, and click Enable for Fn key lock. You can also set up by typing PS2 FNS E at the command prompt.
When the Fn key is not enabled, you need to hold it down while pressing a function key. When it is enabled, you can use the function keys more easily:
Press the Fn key once. The next time you press it, you can release it and then press a function key, to get the same effect as if you had held the Fn key down while pressing the function key.
Press the Fn key twice. Then, for the rest of your session, you can press any function key without pressing the Fn key again.
Have a great day. (I do not work for Lenovo)

  • Ps2 mouse and usb problems

sometimes when using my logitech cordless mouse on the ps2 port it will lock up, i have to unplug it and put it on the usb port instead to get it to work.
other times it stops working on usb.
a freind with the same board has the same problems with his typhoon cordless mouse.
    any ideas ???

Same problem here with my Destop Optical Cordless from Logitech (Keyboard + mouse)
I must admit I changed MB and installed my actual 875P Neo FISR without reinstalling windows XP, I just made a repair install to detect new hardware since XP refused to boot when I changed MB.
Then, on a basis of 1/2, when I reboot the system, my cordless PS2 mouse wasn't detected, and this is really 1 windows start on 2.
I just unplugged the PS2 connection of the receiver, including the keyboard and mouse, and used the single followed USB cable (part of keyboard cable) to plug the wireless receiver. Now my mouse and keyboard work perfectly through a single USB connection for both.
I thought it was maybe not enough power delivered to the wireless receiver through the PS/2 port
If your problem persists on USB, it's clear the explanation is elsewhere

  • External USB Ultranav Keyboard w/ Trackpoint and Trackpad (P/N 41A5091)

I have been loving this keyboard that I used to use with my Thinkpad. I now have a new desktop and am using this same keyboard. My machine is a 64-bit Win7 system. I can't find a driver that will work with it; the keyboard works fine but I keep stumbling on the Trackpad which I'd like to turn off. How can I do that? I've done a bunch of searching and even tried some Thinkpad device drivers, all to no avail. Thanks!

I'm obviously doing something wrong. Several reboots later, I'm stuck with the same inability to turn the touchpad off. Here is what I did.
    1) Uninstall the driver - success. Prompted to reboot.
    2) Rebooted.
    3) Installed installation program (started at page MIGR-60649); ran the downloaded file (q2kyb02us13.exe) and changed install path from the default C:\IBMTOOLS\drivers\q2kyb02us13 to c:\Drivers\q2kyb02us13 .
    4) Ran setup.exe from that location.
    5) It seemed to work properly and I was prompted to reboot. I started the process but was alerted to a window telling me to check the installation and possibly redo it for compatibility with recommended settings. I did *not* do this but forced the reboot.
    6) Back up, I clicked on Start ... Devices and Printers, and right-clicked on IBM Keyboard with UltraNav. I had options for the mouse and keyboard, but nothing about Ultranav.
    7) I tried to uninstall, but this driver no longer appeared on my list of installed programs. Yikes! I tried again, this time going with the default location (C:\IBMTOOLS\drivers\q2kyb02us13) and catching the compatibility wizard - and letting it reinstall with recommended settings.
    8) Reboot and still can't update the Ultranav - and still don't see it listed in installed programs.
Help! What am I doing wrong??

  • Left button, trackpoint and touchpad

My left button, both on the trackpoint and touchpad does not respond.
I've been forced to use a USB wired mouse to get the left click to work.
I did try an MS wireless mouse in the USB port, that doesn't work either.

I find it difficult to believe not one reply, nada, zip, nothing.
I would expect at least one reply to my question from Lenovo.
Difficult working without the left tracking button not working and the left touchpad button not working button. Neither of which works.
Do I need factory service or what?

I bought a DVD RW drive for my thinkpad t23 and the computer does not recognize it. It works and everything, but it does not appear in windows explorer even after rebooting. I tried putting that ISO file on a cd and running it at startup, but it does not seem to have any effect. What would I have to do to get this to work?

Has any previous Ultrabay optical drive worked before, and if so, does it still work correctly?
Who is the manufacturer of the DVDRW drive and what is the model number?
Was it bought new or used? In either case, is there any DOA guarantee provided by the seller?
Would it be possible that you can install the DVDRW drive into another Ultrabay 2000 system?

  • Option to disable UltraNav (touchpad + trackpoint) when external mouse is connected

I grabbed the 5/2011 drivers for UltraNav from the Lenovo site and it appears that an option 'to disable the integrated pointing devices when an external pointing device is present' does not exist, or at the very least I can't easily find it.  Please please please please tell me I'm simply being dense and this behavior is very easy to enable.
Seriously, the 5-year old Dell drivers I had with my old machine did that, and this is driving me BONKERS.
Alternatively, if what I'm doing here is feature-requesting, I'd be like 50% there if I could Fn+F8 and have an option to kill both the touchpad and the trackpoint - alas, I can disable 1 or the other BUT NOT BOTH WITH THAT OPTION.  Can I really not disable both?
    Lenovo W520, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Even though it passed some time from first post I'm writing a solution for auto disabling UltraNav touchpad and trackpoint when external mouse is connected.
I have Lenovo L530 that doesn't have shortcut on keyboard to disable Elantech touchpad so after a driver update (from about 20 March 2013) I tried to find a solution again -now with success.
To auto disable touchpad when external mouse is connected you have to set value in registry editor here is procedure (for Windows 7 procedure for other Windows editions is similar or same):
Click Windows type in regedit and run it.
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\OtherSetting. (If you can't find Elantech\OtherSetting in HKEY_CURRENT_USER navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Elantech\OtherSetting.)
Find DisableWhenDetectUSBMouse double click it and change value (from 0) to 1, hit OK.
(If you don't have DisableWhenDetectUSBMouse in Elantech\OtherSetting create new DWORD with name DisableWhenDetectUSBMouse and set value to 1.)
    Restart computer.
I hope someone still find this helpful.

  • NF 980 PS2 Mouse & Keyboard PS2 IC just stopped working.

Hello, My PS2 Mouse & Keyboard intergrated circuit connections just stopped working. My Rig is only 6weeks old & was using Win 7 Ultimate 64bit. Everything was fine untill yesterday. all of a sudden the connections don't work. I tried doing a system restore. rebooted several times, unplugged & reconnected both mouse & Keyboard plugs to the PS2 connections & still not being recognized at boot up. I plugged in a USB Mouse & Keyboard adaptor & is working fine. I'm thinking something happend to the IC chip. Are these Mobo's known for this problem? I don't think I'm going to RMA the Mobo unless something else happens.
Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

    Hey Fredrik,
Thank you very much. All I did was shut down & remove the power plug like you suggested & removed the USB Mouse/Keyboard adaptor, & plugged back into the PS2 IC Connections, & it's working great.
     Could you explain what happen?
    Hi,
Keyboards and mice have electronic circuitry.  When you just reboot or reset the machine, voltage still goes to the peripherals like the keyboard and mouse.
It sounds like, for some reason, the keyboard and mouse got into a non-working state, but when you rebooted or reset your machine, since power was still going to the keyboard and mouse, they didn't get reset.
When you unplugged the power, that removed power from everything (well, almost), including the peripherals, so that would've reset the keyboard and mouse.
If you have an external/USB hard drive, you can see this behavior by watching the drive light.  When you shutdown your machine, the drive light will stay on, unless you unplug from the wall, or flip the switch on the back of the power supply.

  • PS2 Mouse

    Hello:
My Ps2 mouse is not recognized by win xp if I leave the computer offf for more than an hour (more or less). I have to unplug the mouse, use alt f4 to close windows. Then plug back in the mouse and start the computer.
    Configuration:
    KTAVL MB
    256 DDR 333
    2 x 20 GB HDD
    Plextor 8/4/32 writer
    CD 52X
    Microsoft USB Keyboard
    A4Tech mouse PS2
    Nvidia TNT2 32 MB
    XP 2000+ processor
    NO overclocking
    Samsung SyncMaster 750s

The thing to mark is that the mouse is lost after some off time. Have you had this specific mouse for long?
When in Windows, remove the mouse you have installed according to your device manager, and restart. If Windows can't find a good driver for your PS2 mouse, you have a problem.
Of course you know that the power has to be completely off when plugging in or out the mouse.
