Trackpoint scrolling in Windows 8

On Windows 7 I use the trackpoint middle click by setting the scrolling to auto-scrolling. The generic driver that I had for Synaptics allowed this too, but the Ultranav driver on the Lenovo support site gets rid of this. Will it be put back?

  • W510 : trackpoint scrolling lag windows 10

Hi guys, I'm Alex, newly subscribed user to your Thinkpad forum, and here to ask for your help (if possible) ! Here is what I'm facing right now on my old (but still working like a charm) W510 :Quite happy to move away from Windows 8, I recently accepted to make the upgrade to the newest Microsoft OS : windows 10 64bits. It didn't take long to get used to it and I haven't had any issues with the programs I am using daily. But... I am having troubles with my trackpoint scrolling method. On both Chrome and Edge browsers installed on my computer, scrolling is buggy/laggy/not smooth at all. Web pages seem to "stick" a bit to much which makes jumps every time you try to scroll with the trackpoint. On the touchpad it is better but not so good either. It is really not a big issue but it can drive you a bit crazy after some time... Surprinsingly, scrolling is great on the OS. The issue is only happening on some programs. After looking around on the web, I am pretty sure that the issue is coming from the UltraNav driver. Since everything was working great on 8.1, I decided to reinstall the old driver (UltraNav 16.2.19.14). And as expected, it worked ! Scroll was back to what it was before, but not working on Microsoft Edge. I am using Chrome so I didn't pay much attention to that anyway. But since Windows 10 doesn't let you choose the updates that are installed , the issue came back when Windows Updates automatically installed the supposedly "newest and best" driver for my computer (Synaptics 19.0.16.0). Microsoft Edge got its scrolling back, but at what cost !... I tried changing some registry keys (Friction and TrackPointScrollingMethod) to solve this just like it was indicated in another post on this forum, but the issue persists. Has any of you recently had a similar issue ? Should I just hope and wait for a new, specific driver release ? Or is there something else I could try ? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks !

Thanks for the link ColonelONeill ! I just tried the driver, and indeed, this fix works great, but not for everything. Chrome is scrolling just like before on windows 8.1, however there's no scrolling on all the "new" windows apps and features (start menu, music app, microsoft edge, etc...). Good point : since it's a newer release date, windows updates doesn't reinstall 19.0.16.0 driver. I'm pretty sure Lenovo and Synaptics will come fast with a solution in the coming weeks (?).

  • Trackpoint scrolling not working in Safari

I have an x61s running Windows Vista business (32 bit).
Problem is the trackpoint scrolling feature not working in Apple web browser Safari.
Somewhere on the web I found instructions for fixing this by editing file tp4table.dat located in c:/windows/system32
However, I cannot find any such dat file in that location.
I did find a file with that name in the following location:
    C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\tp4track.inf_45c84db5\tp4table.dat
To this file I added the following lines:
    ;iTunes/Safari Scroll Fix
    *,*,itunes.exe,*,*,*,WheelStd,0,9
    *,*,Safari.exe,*,*,*,WheelStd,0,9
However, this did not help, trackpoint scrolling still doesn't work in Safari.
Does anyone have an idea how I can get this working?
    Thanks

Hello, I was just wondering if you installed synaptics since most laptops use synaptic drivers, you can install it with:
    pacman -S xf86-input-synaptics
This link is very helpful: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Touchpad_Synaptics
If you already had it and it didn't work I can help you later by checking my policies and compare it with you.

  • No TrackPoint Scroll and Brightness Control After Resume

    Hello All,
I'm having an issue with my new x120e where after a couple suspend/resume cycles both the Trackpoint scroll function and the ability to adjust screen brightness no longer work. Using the Trackpoint only yields results as a pointing device, and trying to use the brightness controls does nothing--no on-screen brightness level display. I've searched the forums but couldn't find these exact issues, and I'm using the latest versions of the UltraNav driver and Utility.
    Thanks!

    hey cbolos,
check via http://support.lenovo.com and see that your Power Management software is at its latest version. If not, download and install.
if it is the latest, uninstall all UltraNav drivers+Utilities and the Power Management.
let window install its generic drivers. Test and see if it happens again

  • Trackpoint scrolling problem

I have a T61 that is having a problem with the trackpoint scrolling feature occasionally.  What happens is when I push the middle button, and try to scroll, the window scrolls like its supposed to, but the pointer also moves.  Then when the pointer reaches the edge of the area I'm scrolling, the scrolling stops, and I have to move the pointer back in before I can scroll again.  I have the scrollign settings configured for standard (ie, not smooth or auto-detect).  I have also set the touchpad to be for scrolling and tap zones only (I don't know whether this has anything to do with the problem).  The latest driver (7.5.17.27) is installed.  Any ideas about what else I can try?
    Thanks,
    Justin

I remember seeing this option in the mouse settings, advanced, where it had check box to use one or the other or both in re to touchpad or the red tip mouse.. I had no issue with it, I tried to recreate your issue but am not willing to screw this one up, sorry. Try that area and also see if the mouse driver is selecting the correct one, and if there is a post bios setting for the mouse functions. Now days with usb mouse, PS2, trackpoint, touchpad, infrared, wireless, we need things simple like a carnival ring toss on to coke bottles.

  • Trackpoint Scrolling Cursor?

When I hold down the middle mouse button on my Thinkpad, the mouse cursor changes into a "pointer with a scroll bar", and then I can use the trackpoint nob to scroll a document or webpage. I really like this feature.
I want to know where I can find this .cur or .ico file. I've searched my system but I cannot find it. I also cannot find it on the web.
Can anyone provide the file or the image file?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Mikew3,
I hope you are doing well it would seem that you are looking for an ico file so you can then use the icon   trackpoint scrolling cursor with another program? Am I correct?
If I am on target for what you are attempting to do I don't think you can being as all of this is built into the program used with thinkpad trackpoint. The windows version of what you use on a thinkpad looks like circle with dot in the middle and a arrow above pointing up and arrow pointing down. Which is used when you hold middle mouse button on mouse.
So it would seem that thinkpad have the bar with cursor to allow you to scroll and windows has it own icon for scrolling.
    I hope this helps some.

  • W520 TrackPoint scroll problems

    Hello.
    I am using a W520 i7 Win7 Pro 64 bit.
Can someone tell me why the TrackPoint scroll function doesn't work in some windows/applications? For example I cannot scroll folders in Windows Explorer.
I mean by holding the midle button and moving the track stick. Because by swiping two fingers on touchpad works great in same applications.
    Thank you.

It should be the latest version because the Lenovo driver utility doesn't show any updates available. How to check ?!
It is strange because I am sure it didn't scroll before, now when I tested it did scroll in Windows Explorer but for example in programs like Adobe Dreamweaver it eider doesn't scroll at all or when it does, it acts like I would be pressing the up/down keys, moving the typing cursor up/down and causing some kind of a scroll.
I don't understand why is it so unreliable.

  • Snagit v10 build 788 - unable to capture input - scrolling active window

    Hello,
    I use Snagit v10 build 788.
I cannot use the "Scroll Active Window" option on Firefox 4 Beta.
    It does not work.
I get the Snagit message : "Unable to capture input".
Using Internet Explorer or on an other PC the Firefox v3.6, the "Scroll Active Window" option of Snagit v10 is working.
    How to solve it ?
    Thanks
    Caius

    FIXED!
Guys, you will not believe how easy this is to fix! After hours of frustration I finally discovered a Firefox add-on called '''Screengrab'''. Install Screengrab, then right click in Firefox, choose Save, Complete Page - and you get a perfect scrolled page capture!
Even better, you can open it in Snagit to work on it further (Screengrab saves it as a png)

  • I have an IBM Think Pad and since installing the latest version of Firfox, the trackpoint scrolling on my mouse no longer works

I have an IBM Think Pad and since installing the latest version of Firfox, the trackpoint scrolling on my mouse no longer works

Try to modify the pref ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled on the about:config page from the default value -1 to 0 or 1 to see if that makes the scroll pad work.<br />
Close and restart Firefox after changing the pref.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
*Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

  • Problem with Java scrolling text window on Mac OS

The Java scrolling text window created by AWT "TextArea" scrolls in the normal way from the top on Windows, whereas it scrolls from the bottom on the Mac OS. That is, the text file is first displayed from the bottom on Mac, so that the user has to scroll to the top of the file each time a new page is opened, which is a very nuisance. Have you run into this problem and do you know how to over-ride the Mac OS default? Many thanks.

TextAreas suck in general, this has been discussed many time in the forum. As a duct-tape fix, you might play around with setCaretPosition() after inserting your new text. Good luck

  • Samsung p2270 scrolling and window lag

I have a new 2.8ghz xenon Mac Pro with 6 GB of ram. It's attached to a Samsung P2770HD monitor via a DVI cable.
When I scroll a window in Safari, or drag any window, or even when a new window is opening, it is extremely laggy and redraws the window very slowly. I've tried adjusting all of the monitor settings with no success. I have no options to change in the monitor prefs.
    Any advice??

I'm using the same monitor on a macpro with the ATI HD 5770 card. I don't have a problem with moving windows but when I set my resolution to 1920x1080 the image goes off the screen. I can't see any of my icons on the far right or left. Do you have that issue?

  • Scrolling a window

Is there a way to open a macro in design view and scroll the window to a desired percentage?
    in VBA of course
    Thanks
50% of programming is coding. The other 90% is debugging

    Hi JonWayn,
    >> Is there a way to open a macro in design view and scroll the window to a desired percentage?
What do mean by "scroll the window to a desired percentage"? Do you want to open a macro in design view? If so, I think you could try to select the macro object and send the key "CTRL +ENTER" to achieve, some key code like below:
    Sub OpenMacroInDesignMode(sMacro As String)
    DoCmd.SelectObject acMacro, sMacro, True
'-- CTRL+ENTER will open the macro in design view
    SendKeys "^{ENTER}"
    End Sub
You could turn to the link below for more information about SendKeys
    # SendKeys Statement
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/gg278655.aspx
If you want to scroll the window to a desired percentage, I am afraid that it is not achievable, you need to scroll the window manually.
If I misunderstood you, please feel free to let me know.
    Best Regards,
    Edward

  • T60 Trackpoint Scroll Disfunctional when Switch User

I've been experiencing the issue where if a single user is logged into XP, the trackpoint scroll feature works flawlessly, BUT, if you use the XP switch user function and have 2 people logged in at the same time, the trackpoint scroll feature breaks down and doesn't work right.
This is what I've found (short of re-booting the system): User1 logged on --> Switch User to User2, the scroll feature will work, BUT if you Switch User back to User1 the trackpoint scroll doesn't work anymore   So, to get it to work right for User1 again, Switch User back to User2 and Logoff --> Log back in with User1 and should work again.
I've done all the driver uninstall/re-install excercises and have tried the native synaptic drivers too....  This just seems to be the way this works (unfortunately).
Ironically, my old T30 had seemingly the same hardware, but I never had this problem with it... it was seemless when Switching Users.  Funny, I bought a ThinkPad T because I love the trackpoint... I wish they would get it to work right
So, anyone else experience this?  Any fixes?

    Hi,
If you are using WAD, u have options "Number of data rows displayed at once" and "Number of data columns displayed at once" in the web item properties of the Table web item. There you can specify the count u want. This will surely get u the needed output wherein u can just scroll down/up/right/left according to ur convinience.
Assign points if this helps u...
    Regards,
    Koundinya Karanam.
