Tracks appearing in a random order

OK, I'm a massive fan of a band called Feeder, and I've put all of their B-sides onto my computer. Now, I've numbered the tracks to relate to the dates they were released (1-58) and put them in an album entitled "B sides", but when I sort by "artist" or "album", they appear in a random order. I've tried to put them in order, but they just keep on messing up.
Any solutions, other than sort by "track #"?? (As this causes a problem when I go to view all the tracks in the library)
Shuffle is off, I've tried enabling the "Part of a compilation" thing in the song info, but to no avail. Any ideas?

Could there be slight differences in the names?

Have the developers considered randomizing the numbers for the passcode? It is easy to watch the pattern when someone enters their passcode. However, if the numbers appeared is a random order each time, it would enhance the security feature even more.

He slightly beat you Meg, and I'm in the same boat with you. If I used a passcode I believe I would go with the feature to use a longer alphanumeric passcode rather than a 4 digit number even with the random code entry.
And of course if Apple did put this feature in they need to make it an option or we'll see lots of posts wanting to know how to get rid of it.

Article fields appear in a random order when viewed in story and galley view

Is it possible to amend Incopy so that all article fields appear in a consistent order for all articles and users when viewed in Story and Galley view?

The Finder sorts photos alphanumerically or by date. It has no "random" capability. So if you want your manually sorted photos in iPhoto to remain in the same order you need to do one of the following;
#1
1 - select the photos in the album as you want them sorted and use the Photo ➙ Batch Rename ➙ Title to Text with a sequential number added to each file name.
2 - Export the photos to a folder on the Desktop via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with the File Name = Title option.

1 - Select the album containing the photo in the order you want and export to a folder on the Desktop via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with the File Name = Album name with \ number option.
Either method will give you files that will appear in the Finder in the order as they were in iPhoto.

Update has now made tracks play in a random order

After i updated my iphone, the tracks in my albums seem to just jump randomly. They are in the order of the CD's playlist and in order in my itunes but for some reason they dont play in sequence on my phone.
Can anyone help with this please? It started happening after the update.

I'm having the same problem with some of my albums. And my shuffle is NOT turned on. Not only are the songs playing in the incorrect order, the track lists on my iPhone are displaying them in the incorrect order as well. I've noticed that previously bougt singles are being pushed to the bottom of the album. The rest of the tracks, which I acquired through the "complete my album" feature are shown in correct order w/o the singles. Does anybody know of a solution for this? I've Oates this in various places on these forums and nothing.

Basically, no matter what bulk-tag-editing, renaming or anything I do to this file, it refuses to show up AFTER track 1

Your image lacks the column headings which might help pin down the exact cause, but the numbers on the left suggest we're looking at playlist. Select this column and you ought to be able to drag the tracks into any order you choose. For general advice on grouping & sorting see Use an album friendly view and Tracks out of sequence.

4th Gen iPod: New songs that are added appear in a random order on the iPod

Everything is correct in iTunes. (ripped straight off the CD) Its pretty irritating how it's not the same on the iPod. Anyway know how to fix it?

ITunes sorts audiobook chapters in a random order how do I correct this?

I own a copy of Arkange Complete Shakespeare, I have copied them onto my hard drive and tried to import them into iTunes. No matter what I do, each track appears in a random order. I've numbered the tracks like this:

No matter how I try to sort they do not appear in order. If I manually move each track one at a time into a playlist in the order I wish to listen to it, it will still change the order within the playlist as I make it matching the random order. For example, if I add Coriolanus Act 1 - Scene 1 first and I then add Coriolanus Act 1 - Scene 2 second when I get to Scene 10 and add it after Scene 9 it will jump from where I put it to the spot imediately after Scene 1 as you see above. I have tried renumbering the tracks so that each play, act and scene runs in chronological order, but it will still sort it wrong in iTunes. Is there some hidden metric that I need to change to correct the order? I have noted that although the sorting is random as I add them to iTunes the random order is the same each time.
I do not have this sorting order problem in any other audio programs on my PC, but those other audio programs do not synch with my iPod

When you say the songs are listed alphabetically is this when looking at the iPod while connected to iTunes, in the iPods Cover Flow, Album & Artist Menus or within your playlists. If a playlist is showing up in the wrong order, arrange it iTunes the way you want, then right/option-click on the playlist title and click on Copy To Play Order.

HT4236 Can anyone tell me how to get my photo's to appear in the same order on my i-phone as they are on my computer after I sync them to my i-phone?

When I sync my photo's from my computer to my i-phone they appear in a random order and some of them are duplicated. How can I get them to appear as they are saved in my folders on my computer?

Do you still see your photos, when you launch iPhoto and not Photos?
Where did you keep your iPhoto Library? In your Pictures folder, as is the default? Or on an external drive?
Look in the folder with your iPhoto Library.
You should be seeing two libraries, if you already let Photos upgrade the iPhoto Library:
Your iPhoto Library, now called .migratedphotolibrary
and the new Photos library:
are the libraries there? and how large are they?

Still photos disappearing and showing up in random order?!

Hi,
I'm trying to add a series of still photos to my iMovie project, and while they're appearing correctly in the project map, they either disappear or appear in a random order when I play back the movie. Oddly enough, if I play it back a couple of times in a row, it'll pick a different random order to show the photos...if it decides to show anything at all. I don't seem to be having the photo duration problem that other people seem to have (knock on wood), but this seems really weird. Is there a setting I'm missing?

I may be mistaken, but it appears that you are trying to add stills to an iMovie Trailer template. Unfortunately, the Trailer templates only allow the insertion of video clips. The way around this limitation is to convert the Trailer to a normal project, then you can add stills and/or edit the project in the normal way. At the points where you wish to add stills, just leave the animatics in place. When the Trailer is converted, simply replace the animatics with your own stills.
To convert the Trailer, go to iMovie's menu and select File>Convert to Project. It's best to duplicate the Trailer first. To do this, in Project Library view, right-click (or Control-click) on the name of the Trailer. From the pop-up menu select Duplicate Project, then convert the duplicate to a normal project.

ITunes U tracks are downloaded out of order

The iTunes U tracks appear in a particular order in the iTunes music store, but when downloaded into the iTunes U library they no longer appear in the correct order. This happens for me whether I use the subscribe button or the *get tracks* button. Am I sorting something incorrectly or is this a bug? If a bug is there a fix or not? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem. iTunes U tracks do have track numbers, but for some reason I am unable to show the track number in the iTunes U playlist, and I am unable to sort by track number.
It seems to be built to only sort based on date added, but this is useless when they were all added at the same time and downloaded all at once.

Thanks for this, I have checked the dates in case the camera settings had been lost unfortunatly in this instance all pics are dated in correct order but not transferred in date order, or date modified order, or is the date config based on US date atyle?

Music tracks playing in random order!

I am seeing a problem whereby album and/or playlist tracks are being played in random order. The problem is affecting both my iPhone and ipod Nano and seemed to start fairly simultaneously onboth devices. This isn't like using Shuffle - after listening to 1 or 2 tracks in an album or playlist random tracks are being played from elsewhere in my music library. The problem doesn't occur when listening to albums or playlists on my Macbook. I'm running iTunes 8.0.2 on my Macbook.
Appreciate any advice from anyone that may have seen a similar problem!

Does sound like Shuffle to me. Even if you are not hitting the Shuffle (words at top of playlist), if you ever did, what that really did is just turn shuffle on.
Go play any song. Then tap center screen on the album. Another set of controls appears near top. Repeat, Progress and Shuffle. Blue is on, white is off.

I Pod Touch plays music tracks in random order...?

My i-Pod Touch will only play music tracks in random order - permanant shuffle and pressing the "crossed lines" icon does appears to do nothing, other than make it play... in random order! I've factory re-set and re-installed twice and this has made no difference at all. Can any one help or have any suggested fixes?

If you press now playing it will show up with that screen with were the son is at in terms on mins and the play button and all that stuff but just under the time thing there are these little things and one may be orange click that tell the orange is gone that should help if u understand what I'm saying hop that help

When adding audio books to ipod either manually or by syncing, the tracks seem to be in the right order but they play back in a random order which means you can't listen to the book. How do you overcome this? (Bill)

I have found the problem myself when I got into the Settings. Somehow it had been put onto shuffle all music files and once I turned that off it reverted to normal. I realised something basic was wrong when our other ipod that had been synced at the same time didn't have a problem. However, I had put all the books on manually, one album at a time as problems occurred when syncing the whole library, including multiple albums for the same piece of music.

Sort on the very first column header with the numbers.
