Tracks cutting out/in

I recently downloaded a Stravinsky album which was seperated into many small tracks. Playback seemed smooth at first but now each track is 'nibbled' at begining and end. I have checked and disabled crossfade in advanced playback but tracks are still crashing into each other making album infuriatingly unlistenable to.
Any suggestions appreciated. thanks.

It would be hard to say, but I don't think so. AirFoil still uses AirTunes to stream audio to the AirPort Express. One potential shortcoming of the AX's electronics is that it doesn't employ a local clock circuit. When the incoming data is interrupted (changing songs, long pauses, bandwidth limitations, etc.), there is no longer a digital output to feed the AX's internal DAC, which manifests itself as an audio drop-out.
Some options to try to improve performance are: 1) If not already, use digital audio instead of analog, 2) Use Ethernet as much as possible between the audio source and the AX, and 3) Where Ethernet is not an option, use 802.11n wireless networking and/or eliminate any Wi-Fi interference.

  • Recording...music track cuts out

While recording female voice track over music...the music playback cuts out in the headsets aprox 2 minutes into the song. What causes this? Its frustrating because it prevents me from mixing a complete song and my artist is really peeved.

    MUCH better results recording dry.
I didn't want to waste time and risk confusion with other details until we solved your problem, but now that we have, here's a section from he upcoming revision to the GarageBand FAQ:
    Q. Should I record Wet or Dry?
    A. For those not in the familiar with the terms, "wet" and "dry" relate to effecting a track or not (or the amount, mix, of effect). For the most part I recommend recording everything dry, and there are several reasons for this.
o GB's effects are rendered in real time, this means that your CPU has to do a whole lot more work while it's still recording you. Why push the machine when you don't have to, and you're more likely to get through a recording session without any type of error popping up (which will of course happen during the perfect take [Murphy predicts it])
o You don't want to play or sing "to the effect". You may find your brain trying to compensate for things it hears and knows isn't the way it should sound. You want the performance itself to be spot on, then effect later to enhance it
o An effect during recording may also hide a less than perfect performance that will come out later when you get to mixing and mastering. You want to hear defects while you're still recording so you can trash and retake what you need to.
o Finally, since GB's effects are "non-destructive" (they don't alter your recorded file) you can add them, change them, and remove them at anytime. At "recording time" isn't when you should work on effects. In the quiet of your mixing room is when you should.

  • Some tracks cut out half way through playing

    I have a 20GB 4G iPod with a black & white display which I got in December 2004.
Recently, some of the tracks on my iPod have been cutting out during playback and the iPod moves onto the next track in the play list.
I store my music on my Windows XP SP2 computer and I sync my iPod with this computer. All of the tracks playback correctly on the computer, so why aren't they playing correctly on the iPod and how can I fix the problem?
    Many thanks for any help.

I have a similar setup and have had the same problems. I've noticed that since I update iTunes to 5.0.1.4. About 15 songs (out of 3200) will reload onto my iPod each time I connect. When this happens the length of the song (time) changes to some random number, either shorter or longer. If it is longer the iPod basically plays to the end of the song and then skips to the next one (doesn't play the "extra" time), but if it is shorter, the song cuts off in the middle.
This is an annoying bug. Any help would be greatly appreciated!...

  • Audio Cuts out on finished iDVD burn

I'm using the latest version of FCPro to create my video on a G5, OS Tiger. It's about 8 minutes long. I've exported to QT using the Current settings and 4 Chapter Markers.
I've set up my iDVD 6.01 program and burned a DVD, but between 6 or 7 minutes into the video, the entire audio track cuts out. The audio tracks on FCP sequence have no splits, markers or obvious problems that would cause this problem. When the QT file is played on its own, there is audio throughout. I've also burned a successful DVD using DVD Studio pro, so I know the file is ok. I know there are reasons to prefer DVDSPro over iDVD, but my client likes the iDVD template I chose.
There's obviously something iDVD is picking up from the file that is telling it to turn off Audio, but I can't figure it out. I have another mac with iDVD 6.01, so I transfered the files to it and burned a DVD only to find the same problem.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks, Jon.

What brand and format DVD are you using?
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save As Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • PE 13: What is the best way to cut out an unwanted segment and leave a fade-out/fade-in overlap?  Without multi-track overlaps?

I have a long video segment and want to remove unwanted segments and replace them with fade-in/fade-out transitions.  I know that I can do this between two separate video tracks by fading out Video 1 and fading in Video 2 and having the two tracks overlap during the transition.  Is there an easy way to do this on the same track?  The way I've done this before is to cut out the unwanted segment, then move the two segments to separate tracks and overlap them.
To compound the problem, I have a separate audio track for the wireless microphone I'm wearing. I need to pull that into the fade transitions.  So that's Video 1 and Audio 1 with Narration, all cut at the same time with overlapping fade-out/fade-in in the fewest steps.  Can Premiere Elements 13 handle that?

    billsbayou
Add On...I am weighing the merits of applying an audio transition directly below the video transition. Considering Crossfade's  Constant Gain or Constant Power with a forced alignment of Between Clips. According to Adobe documentation
Adobe Premiere Elements Help | Applying transitions to clips
Adobe Premiere Elements includes two audio transitions in the Crossfade category: Constant Power and Constant Gain. Though both provide fades, they differ slightly. Constant Power creates a smoother-sounding fade, while Constant Gain, though mathematically linear, often sounds abrupt.

  • Certain tracks keep cutting out...

Whenever a certain few songs play on the iPod, they cut off about 2/3 of the way through and the ipod does not skip to the next track. It just gets stuck. It doesn't freeze. I can hit next or back and it will go to the next track, but the song doesn't complete. The source mp3s are perfectly fine and play perfectly in iTunes.
Why does the iPod cut out? Anyone familiar with this?

Some of your iPod songs might be corrupted.

  • Midi Audio Cuts out when Playback tracks are triggered.

    Hi,
I am having an issue where if I open Mainstage 2 and begin playing a Midi Sequence through a 3rd party Plug-in, the audio cuts out from the plug-in when I trigger my group of Playback tracks for the first time and only restarts when a new note is played. This is particularly a problem because the sound is arpegiated and continuous. 9 out of 10 times if I do it again right afterwards it will be fine without any issues at all. There was a time during rehearsal when it absolutely would not work, but I think a restart fixed it. CPU usage and memory usage do not seem to be the problem.
So my question is, is it normal for it to do that on the first time? Is there any reason why it would not absolutely work that time during rehearsal. And lastly, is there anyway to make it just work every time!
I have tried reading up on this, and from what I understand, putting each playback track on a separate patch might help. My issue with that is I have already designed a layout that fits everything on one screen in one patch. I don't want to be switching screens during a song to adjust levels for the playback tracks. I have One Vocal, One Midi Synth, 8 playback tracks, and 3 Aux strips.
I am new to mainstage and might not completely understand how to make a set work with patches, but from what I understand if I put the playback tracks on different patches I can't control everything from one screen.
Any thoughts, insights, or advice is greatly appreciated.

Logic has that issue at times as well- where the first notes of a midi passage may not play. I believe the timing is such that the note starts are actually slightly before the first beat. Check your starting notes to make sure that they are really starting on the first beat and not slightly before.

  • Cutting out on tracks

I've got a 30Gb iPod. I used to use it with a Windows XP machine. I started using an iMac about 6 wks ago and move the music files over. What often happens when I'm listening to music on my iPod since then is that a song will cut out prematurely. Sometimes it just rolls over to the next song on the CD and other times, it starts playing tracks from entirely different CDs or artists. In the latter case, it'll then often come back to the original CD.
I've always assumed that the files had somehow become corrupted as part of the copy process (from the Windows machine). I've always just re-ripped the CD in question.
I've not confirmed that this fixes the problem but now I'm wondering whether the problem is with the iPod itself.
Has anyone else ever had this problem? If so, what was the source/answer?
    TIA,
    David

    Hey
I'm having a similar problem. 30GB 5th gen iPod randomly cuts out of racks during playback. It always continues with the next song, and bizarrely, it even seems to update the play count (I think). It seems to happen for me with iTunes Store purchases, though not totally sure if that's a coincidence or whether it only affects those songs.
    Any help would be appreciated...

  • Tracks Randomly Cutting Out on itouch 4

I am using the latest version of firmware and itunes and I am finding tracks that midway through playing just cut out and there is silence although the itouch looks as if it is still playing a track. It seems to affect tracks randomly including an album I downloaded the other day from iTunes using the current software. I have tried reinstalling iTunes and deleting and reinstalling the affected tracks but to no avail. Any ideas on what is causing this and how it can be fixed. I never had this problem before the current software release.
    Thanks

  • IPod Touch - Audio cuts out, then it skips to the next track

This is a really irritating problem, and I know I'm not the only one who has encountered this problem; the problem is that certain songs (it seems like random songs that it chooses to do this with) will play, and after a while--its not the same on every track--the audio simply cuts out, and then after a few more seconds, it changes songs. If I skip over the part that cuts out, the rest of the song will play without any further problems.
I know this has been addressed in this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1198666&tstart=0
sadly, however, that solution didn't fix my problem! I hope someone else has an idea of what to do, because I don't.
I am running iTunes 7.4.3.1 on Windows XP Professional.
    So far, I have tried:
    - Resetting the iPod
    - Restoring the iPod
    - Deleting a problematic song from iTunes, syncing my iPod without that particular song, and then adding the song once again to iTunes, and once again syncing my iPod.
    - The solution presented in the above URL.
Thanks in advance for your input!

Same problem here. It started with just 1 track I had bought through itunes but has now started to manifest itself on other random tracks. Has there been an official statement from Apple regarding this, because if it's a fault with the Ipod itself let's just cut to the chase and get them exchanged. It's starting to concern me a lot. I dont expect to pay £270 for a new Ipod and have issues with the simple function of playing a song!

  • IPad cuts out and stutters on AirPlay music but iPhone does not?!

Hi folks, hope you can help with this problem, it's a little weird.
I bought an Apple TV a few days ago and have been enjoying streaming music from my apple devices onto the hifi system connected to the TV.  It works great except for one particular use-case, which is really frustrating.  Basically, I can do everything from the Apple TV, stream HD content, Netflix etc. all good.  From my iPhone I can do everything over AirPlay, stream music from iTunes, from Spotify, stream high quality video from YouTube or off the device itself, all works perfectly.
On my iPad 2 however everything works EXCEPT streaming music, it's bizarre.  I can stream a high def video from YouTube onto the iPad and AirPlay it over to the ATV and it never misses a beat.  I can mirror my screen onto the TV and stream games like Real Racing HD with no issues or lag whatsoever.  However when I try to stream music either from iTunes or Spotify from the iPad it stutters (cuts out) every 30 seconds or so, making the music intolerable.
The weirdest thing is that I can queue up the same track on my iPhone 4s and on the iPad 2, play it from the iPhone and it works perfectly, pause that, play from the iPad and it's a complete mess.  Similarly, when music is stuttering and cutting out on the iPad, I can switch directly to the YouTube, or BBC iPlayer app and stream high def video over AirPlay with no sound or video problems, then switch back to the music - back come the cut outs. It's driving me mad, I want the iPad to be the device everyone uses to play music from, especially for parties, but at the moment I have to get my phone out every time.
So it's not a bandwidth problem or a wifi signal problem (because video over airplay is fine) and it only affects music and it only affects the iPad.
    Any ideas?!?!
I should state that all the iOS devices have the latest apple software and I have already tried resetting the iPad, the ATV, my wifi router etc. etc.

    "Sonos" your Airplay
    Hi,
This observation elicited a Eureka moment. After months of problems with our airplay I had worked through almost every suggestion on the net to little or no avail.
As a result of this post I reconfigured one of our access points as a dedicated airplay network. Brilliant. We have now had 2 weeks of perfect airplay.
If you are reading this, you are probably fairly tech savvy. You therefore probably have an old router in the garage, shed or attic.
Get it out, dust it off and connect it to your network as an access point (Ethernet cable and a good internet search on your router). Set it up on an empty wireless channel as "*****airplay" or whatever suits you and connect the airplay clients (airport express, Apple TV, airplay speakers etc.) to that. Keep everything else on the original wireless network.
Interestingly, this is how Sonos have approached the wireless music solution.
This has worked brilliantly for us, I hope this helps others in a similar predicament.

  • Audio cut out and midi miss sync

Lately I have been getting audio cut out, and the missing, 'error while trying to sync audio and midi'.
I thought it was that I had too many instances of virtual instruments. So I mixed the song down. Imported that into a NEW song, with only one audio track, and then proceeded to try to do an organ overdub...Well Logic still drops out and gives me the message, even though there is NO midi information in this file...
Then I noticed that even AIF or mp3 files, didn't play properly from the desktop preview mode. They stop too. Activity monitor doesn't seem to be showing anything overworking..
Disk Warrior fixed some volume errors,
Anyone have any ideas to try?

I'm using a motu828. I disconnected the firewire connection, and ran audio from the headphone jack to the motu, and VOILA, no problems... Last year, I went thru two motu units, not really sure if they are the issue.
I think it might be LOGIC's firewire circuitry. Apple techs couldn't find the issue, I had the G5 motherboard replaced. Another factor was I had 3 Lacie firewire drives (2 firewire 800, 1 400) I have had 4 Lacie drives die on me in the last 3 years. They are the only firewire drives I have, so I don't know if the fault lies with them, or the again Apples firewire circuitry, stressing the drives out???
I also put a firewire 800 card in my system.
I have now switched to an external ESATA raid setup. No more firewire drives. So far so good. Since I had the whole motherboard replaced, I don't know what that means in terms of MOTU connected via firewire..
For now, I'm running audio out of headphone jack, using all virtual instruments, so I know it will sound better when I get firewire audio up and running, but I got tired of it cutting out every 3 - 30 minutes. I'm thinking about the apogee duet unit. But again if it's connected via firewire, I don't know where that leaves me..
My G5 is three and half years old, perhaps it's tired and wants to be retired....
The dark part of me wonders, if Apple computers don't start crapping out after three years of heavy use, or is it that technology, software, updates, push the hardware beyond it's capacity after a few years.

  • Sound cuts out after any given amount of time, only way to turn back on is to reboot.

For reference, I am using a fully up-to-date mid-2012 model rMBP. Attached to my MacBook via USB I also have an M-Audio KeyStation 49i, which is where I have my headphones plugged in (probably not related in any way, but just noting this).
I first encountered this issue while using Chrome and listening to music on SoundCloud with Garageband open after the last Mavericks update yesterday. I initially thought it was a Chrome bug, and in doing some research, I found that other Chrome users were having the same issue as me, but it was related to PepperFlash (a version of the standard Flash player), and disabling it in Chrome Canary fixed the issue for them.
Unfortunately, it did not fix the issue for me, but I have refrained from using Chrome since then and stuck to Safari to ensure that it's not two issues with the same outcome.
Then I stumbled across all of the Mavericks users that are having sound problems; anything from crackling/popping to not working at all. It seemed, though, that everyone that was having the sound cut out for them entirely were not only having this happen after their laptops came back from sleep mode (which is not the case for me), but were able to fix it by restarting Coreaudio[d] or -- if they had been using the headphone jack on their Macs -- they just had to plug it in again and take it back out. Neither of these worked or were applicable to my situation. Some were able to get it working again by resetting the PRAM/NVRAM, and a few others seemed to be able to bypass the issue by using Soundflower, but neither of these solutions worked for me either. The only way I can get sound to work again is to restart my computer entirely.
After doing so, I am only able to listen to audio for a certain amount of time. It seems to vary depending on how much memory the task is taking up. Like I'll be able to listen to a track or two on SoundCloud, or attempt to record into Garageband for five minutes or so. If I'm in a Garageband project that already has a lot of tracks, I'll be lucky if I can even get through a few seconds before it cuts out entirely. There are very quiet crackling/pop sounds every once and awhile, but it is hard for me to distinguish if that is just the natural state of the hardware I am using or if it is related to background system sounds.
I'm at wit's end trying to figure out what the problem is, mostly because there are so many others with similar issues and varying hardware/software setups that it's hard to track down exactly what my own situation is.
I'd like to know where I should be exporting any error logs from so that someone can take a look at this issue.
    Thank you.

After doing some additional testing, I was able to get the sound working again without rebooting by:
    1. Unplugging the MIDI device.
    2. Resetting the audio input and output to "built-in".
    3. Plugging back in the MIDI device.
    4. Changing the audio input and output back to the MIDI device.
Still, though, the sound only lasts for a little while, and there doesn't seem to be anything indicating how or why it stops.

  • Many of my songs are incomplete and will cut out towards the end

I've had this problem for several years now. I have over 4,000 songs (most of which were purchased through iTunes and the rest imported from CDs). A lot my songs will play for a little while and cut out at the end. Sometimes it's just silence but lately the next song will just start playing. When I go into my iPhone to check it out it still has the album artwork and everything from the previous song.
I've contacted support several times about this over the years. The first time I was told to connect to my computer and reload all my songs. This seemed to fix many of the songs but then I would notice other songs had the problem. I was then told to redownload all of my purchases and to sync again. Same thing happened. It seemed alright for a while until the same problem occured. The third time I tried to get it fixed I was advised to delete the song from my phone and redownload it through the iTunes app. This seemed to fix each individual song (though its not very practical). But now even that no longer works. I delete the song and redownload it only to find that it still skips to the next song without registering it. It's driving me nuts and, while I can't prove it, I'm pretty sure the problem is growing. I notice songs that played fine a few weeks ago do the same thing. Considering the amount of money I've spent purchasing music it's maddening not being able to listen to a complete song.
Is there any fix for this? I've found similar posts but no new advice. Any help that anyone can provide would be welcome.
Some additional info...this happened when I had my iPod touch, my iPhone 4 and now my iPhone 5. My software is up to date.
    Thanks.

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the broken tracks from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If you don't see them straight away it may help to restart iTunes. While downloading select the Downloads widget near the top-right (iTunes 11) or in the entry in the left-hand column (older iTunes) and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unticked.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.
