Tracks don't play from 0:00, but from last place played (ie: 0:07)

My iTunes and my iPod (nano) suddenly started this: When I skip ahead or back a track, it plays that track from the last place I left it (not from 0:00). What is up with that? I can't even rewind to the beginning of the track by skipping, I have to seek back to the beginning. This started within the last week or so...

*I had no idea there was such a setting built in to iTunes. (And why would there be?)*
It's mainly for audio books. If you do not listen to the entire chapter at one time, you can start exactly where you left off instead of having to scroll thru 40 minutes to get where you were.

Occasionally tracks don't play in the iPod app

I use iTunes Match between my household computers and my iOS devices. I regularly drop new music into iTunes on the Mac so it's instantly synced to iTunes Match.
Once in a while, I'll put a file in there that plays fine on the desktop, but then once it gets synced to iTunes Match and I'm out on the town using my iPhone, I'll hit play, and that track will be entirely silent. The play bar moves as if it's playing, but it's silent. If I come home to the computer and test that same song, it plays fine.
This is happening more and more and it's kind of infuriating because sometimes these are important songs that I'm playing for clients, therefore, I can't risk "what if it doesn't play" scenarios. Any suggestions on troubleshooting it?
I have already tried restarting the phone -- it doesn't make a difference. Once a track loads in "silent" mode, that track is never playable on my iPhone.
The iPhone doesn't appear to have a way to delete a song and then redownload it from iTunes Match. I tried going into the Settings > Music and switching off iTunes Match, then switching it back on (which does prompt a warning that it will replace all the music on the phone) but that doesn't seem to fix it.

Figured out in another forum--it was the Album Artist field that also needed to be changed.

My iPhone was stolen. Straight away I used the findmyiphone app. No surprise that the phone had been turned off, rendering the app totally useless.
I thought its ok, I've got a pin code. My brother then goes on to tell me that they are easily bypassed.
My brother states that if you put an iPhone in dfu mode, connect that iPhone too iTunes
That iTunes detects the said phone is in dfu mode and does a system restore.

So i've found the answer to this by clicking on every menu and setting in the itunes store. It turns out some purchases in the cloud can be hidden probably as the result of an interrupted transfer/sync/backup or a network outage. To unhide purchases 'greyed out ' items , go to the Itunes store (on the PC) click on your account name and select view account. (you'll be prompted for your itunes password) once you are in scroll down to the purchase history section. there should be an option for hidden purchases. click through and click on unhide purchases, redownloadble purchases. any hidden purchases will then show up. click on unhide to reactivate and download. This may only work for purchases in the cloud.

The iTunes Store sells songs in AAC format. Most Android phones can play AACs. Just sync them to your phone per the instructions with the phone.
If by any chance your phone does require MP3 format, you can use iTunes to convert the files, per this guide:
iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format - Apple Support
(This conversion does not require burning.)
For future reference, note that the iTunes Store is really optimized for people using Apple devices. You might find it more convenient to buy music in Mp3 format from Amazon Digital Music or Google Play Music.

You have the accessibility VoiceOver feature turned on.
Triple click the home button and try going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off. You may have to use three fingers to scroll the screen to get there. If problems see the following for how to turn off via iTunes:

Click on the Audiobooks icon at top left of iTunes window. It should be there. You can then drag it to your phone, or in File > Devices you can Sync iPhone.

I get books from Audible. Since upgrading to iTunes 8 now my books list under Audiobooks, but when I go to play them, they don't play the track listed. For example if I have 5 tracks, 3 by Jodi Picoult, 2 by Grisham, 1 by Gary Chapman. The first listed track is the Grisham book, but when I play it Picoult actually plays. I've tried all sorts of erase, restore and playlists, nothing fixes it. I have found a workaround. By going into Genre, I can select the author and play the book I want. I do not have shuffle turned on, everything is set as normal.
I have two iPods. My wife told me about the problem and I tried to fix hers. Then I decided to look at mine and noticed it is doing it, too. So I'm pretty sure this is associated with the latest iTunes update.

I agree that this problem started with the last software update. I've downloaded at least 30+ books from Audible and didn't have this problem until the last software update. The books match the menu titles in iTunes but not on my iPod. I've tried deleting and reinstalling them with no success. Thanks for the genre workaround. Depending upon what country that you are in (music and films can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting the incomplete music tracks and the film from your iTunes library and redownload them via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music and/or films or if they re-download in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that album and/or film and use the 'Report a Problem' link and fill in details about the problem (iTunes support should reply within, I think, 24 to 48 hours).

I found the same issue... I can play other movies but no purchased ones. I can get the sound but the picture is scrambled. Does anyone know how to uninstall and reinstall iTunes? maybe that will work.

Meh, not that it matters anymore. I ended up redownloading 70-odd albums, so I have the bulk of my music back. And I still have no idea what iTunes did with my files, but I'll make sure it never does it again.

Files don't play smoothly when exporting from Final Cut Pro

I have this strange problem that's haunting me for weeks (well months now)...
I've made some videos, shot with a HD-camera (Sony, HDV HDR-FX1E (PAL)), 1080i), and I want to export it to the apple TV.
The problem is that the videos on the appleTV dont't run smoothly, they don't really stutter, but they do have a problem, like they're missing a frame...
Now, I don't know what it is, but I tried everything.
I've tried all different settings in
- Compression, like progressive, deinterlacing, keeping the interlacing, changing it to lower field, changing the framerate to 24 fps (as I read somewhere in another post as that 25 fps would be the problem).
- MPEG Streamclip
- ffMPEG
- Visualhub
Well, I even tried it on a PC...
But all with the same result.
Then I tried it to convert the to DV (through the camera). But all with the same result.
So I thought it could be on my footage, but my originals are fine. When playing on my TV they play smoothly, even the edited ones.
When exporting the same edited files to DVD, the DVD plays fine without a hitch, but you can see a downgrade in quality...
The standard conversion settings where:
1280x720 (PAL) @ 25fps, 3 kbs (I started higher, but i downgraded), and then I tried all the above settings...
I also lowered the dimensions, but that didn't work either.
Then I dit a few tests with Handbrake and converted a (home-)DVD and, as to my surprise, I had the same problem!
BUT! The apple TV plays trailers and movies from the store without any problems...
TV is set to 1080i (Sony). But I also tried 720p, 576i, 576p, all with the same effect...
On the tv side... The files are not streamed. They are played directly from the hard disk.
Even though, streamed or directly, the problem stays the same...
I'm really desperate.

Been trying something else in the meantime...
On a Plextor MediaX, the files play fine and perfect, either in MPEG2 HD (ts), or Xvid HD (avi), on the same TV as the appleTV.
I've encoded them through Xilisofts video-converter (PC) and ffmpeg (Mac).
But still no luck with appleTV and the h264 encodings... The stuttering there remains
Could anyone give me the right settings for PAL and HD? Can I use 25fps?
(Well, the usual settings in Compressor doesn't seem to work, so if anybody has some more advise?)
Or could there be something wrong with my appleTV?
My rentals play fine? I don't understand it...

Other people have been having similar problems with songs over the last few days, I assume that there has been a problem with Apple's servers.

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.
