Tracks Lost? iLife Preview Still Works?

I saved and quit my garageband recording, but when I tried to open it a few hours later several error messages came up informing me that the tracks were lost. I had the option to "search" for the track, but that seems to do nothing. The iLife preview of the song still works fine, but when I open up the file all the tracks say "file not found" and are just silence. Are my tracks lost for good? Is there a way I can import the iLife preview to iTunes, because the songs were nearly finished?

Have you copied any recordings from another project into your song and then deleted that other project? That would be an explanation of why the files can't be found, because when you copy, you only refer to the original files, and you have to keep them in order for your project to work. (If you don't want that, you have to save the new file "As Archive".)
Here's what you can do:
• Make a duplicate of your project and do the following steps with the copy (in order not to mess up the project even more).
• Ctrl-click the project, and select "Show package content".
• In the package, there is a folder called "Media". It contains all the recordings of your song. I assume that you will not find the recordings that are missing, but it is worth a try.
• There should also be a folder called "Output". It should contain a file called "Output.aif", and I think that's the iLife preview file that you can retrieve and open with iTunes.

Also if the above can be done can he change the settings on my actual phone and access my location without placing tracking software on my phone. Can someone please help here as I can't restore a backup to my phone for obvious reasons and refuse to change my number because of this loser.

Connect the device to the computer.
In iTunes, select the content desired to sync.
Sync.

I'd like to install iLife on OS X 10.6.8. Will it still work? I read somewhere that due to the updates
over the past 2 years it won't.

Does GPU acceleration in Illustrator CC still work after disabling 'GPU Preview' and enabling 'CPU Preview' (on a workstation gpu)?

I'm using a workstation graphics card that allows for GPU acceleration in Illustrator CC.
Selecting 'GPU Preview' instead of 'CPU Preview' under the 'View' toolbar in Illustrator CC results in a more choppy experience.
Which leads me to wonder:
Does GPU acceleration in Illustrator CC still work after disabling 'GPU Preview' and enabling 'CPU Preview' (on a workstation gpu)?
Does GPU acceleration for my gpu actually improve the performance for my work?

If you disable the GPU acceleration in preferences then you'll be unable to enable GPU preview under the view menu. It will automatically go into CPU preview as the GPU is no longer enabled.
If you're experiencing choppy performance when you do have the GPU preview selected, something is amiss because any GPU that can support GPU acceleration should be able to do it without a performance hit.
What is the video card that's in the workstation?

- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up. Of if FinfMyiPod was turned off

Will Distance Filter for Location Manager still work when User Tracking Mode is enabled?

Basically I have the MKUserTrackingBarButtonItem with my Map View. When you turn it on it basically turns on the MKUserTrackingMode where your location is updated live on your map. My question is if I have my Location Manager's Distance Filter set to 100m and I traveled with my device 100m and at the same time the map is updating my current location live how will it detect that the device traveled 100m from its original current location? And how will it enter the locationUpdate: delegate method for Location Manager if it only fires when the users location has traveled 100m from it's previous current location? Thanks.

I found my answer through experimentation, yes it will still work. How does it do it exactly? I still have no idea. I hope someone would enlighten me on this.

Lost my ability to surf online wirelessly but Skype still works?

I have been using my Airport Express happily for the last two weeks without any problems. Last night, however, I could not browse the internet. The strange thing is that my Skype still works. I have tries resetting my airport express but that did not solve my problem. I used network diagnostics but that did not work either.
Does anyone know what my problem could be?

I can't get Previews to work in Aperture

I have some projects within Aperture where the previews are fine.
However, for one project, I am unable to get the Previews to work (or be seen by other iLife apps).
Here's what I have done so far:
1. Select my CHINA project
2. Ctrl-click and select "Update Previews for Project"
3. Close Aperture and then relaunch it, as well as open iWeb. Check iWeb media browser and the CHINA previews are empty. (NB - other project previews are displayed fine.)
Now I figure I should delete the Previews from the CHINA project and then "Maintain Previews for Project", so it will create new previews.
I do so and wait while the Task List says it is doing so, but when it is finished - after I quit and then relaunch Aperture - the CHINA Project still does not display the previews in iWeb. (NB - even after a quit and relaunch.)
Please help.

Select the images you want to update, and hold the option key down, then select images...generate previews.
See pp. 162 of Aperture User Manual. I just tested that procedure and it works. You may have to select images to generate previews.

How do I remove Garageband iLife Preview files?

I was creatin a large project in Garageband and decided to split it into smaller parts. I forgot that I had set Garageband to create an iLife Preview for the files when I save them, and sudddenly, I've lost 20GB of space on my drive because I have created all these extra preview files with every same.
Is there a way to remove the preview files without having to delete the individual tracks?

The Power Supply Fan is still working, but does not appear to respond to increased loads, and its speed cannot be increased using SMCFanControl. Any suggestions?

Hi all - My mac pro 1,1 has an enigmatic problem. It's quad-core, 3Ghz, running OS X 10.7.5. The problem began some months back, when running HD video conferences, HD streaming videos and some other graphics-moderate (I won't say intense) uses, such as slide shows in Just Looking. My machine has an ATY, RadeonX1900 card and 2 monitors - both Apple displays, one being 30 inch 2560x1600, the other being 24 inch 1920x1200.
When I start those types of graphics-moderate apps, after about 5 minutes, something would crash (the monitors making a noise as it did) and the displays would both go black. The power did not appear to be fully cut off from the monitors. I think that the underlying applications, however, did not crash. So, I could still hear and speak to people during video conferences, and I could hear the sound tracks of videos.
Attempts to restart the computer and get the monitors back did not immediately work to undo the problem, if done straight away. The only way to correct the problem (so as to have the monitors work) was to wait for a few minutes and then restart.
After a lot of puzzled looking at console logs (and I confess that I am not an expert), I ran into a blank.
But, because of the timing of the crashes (after ~5minutes use) and restarts (after some minutes wait), I reasoned that the problem might be temperature related.
Once on that path of thought, I found this article:

I installed both Temperature Monitor and SMCFanControl. And I experimented, and got interesting results:
Now to the puzzling bit: SMCFanControl shows that the speed of the Power Supply Fan doesn't vary much, even if I use SMCFanControl to ramp fan speeds right up. All of the other fans react to SMCFanControl, going up to and above 2500rpm when commanded. But the Power Supply Fan does not. Having watched it for a few days now, the Power Supply Fan, according to AFCFanControl, never varies outside of a range from about 600-640 rpm, regardless of what I do with AFCFanControl.
Also (and not surprisingly), whenever the graphics-moderate apps run, when I ramp all the fan speeds up using SMCFanControl, Temperature Monitor shows that the all of the temperatures within the machine plummet, except in the power supply locations. Power Supply Location 2 is the worst affected. Because the Power Supply Fan does not react as the other fans do, the "crashes" still occur.
I could post some screen shots of the read outs of SMCFanControl and Temperature Monitor, although I think I have covered the key points in this post.
It seems that the Power Supply Fan is still working, but does not respond to increased loads.
Instinctively, I'm worried that if that's right, it might be a hard problem to fix. Any suggestions? Help! I would really appreciate them!

Thanks for your response Grant. I had already read about, and I think excluded, dust in graphics card/fan/assembly as a cause. The entire inside of the computer, including the graphics card/fan/assembly, is as clean as a whistle. It looks clean. I've cleaned the dust out every now and then (including a few days ago). Also, my undersanding (derived from the article, linked in my first post) is that I might expect to see high temperatures in the Northbridge and memory module B if the graphics card was overheating. According to Temperature Monitor, however, locations do not increase in temperature when I run the relevant apps. Finally, the graphics card/assembly does not feel too hot to touch.
It is strange that SMCFanControl lists the Power Supply Fan as being software controllable, if that fan is not. Still, your comments are consistent with my observations, as the fan simply does not respond to software control.
There are two upsides: First, I've something of a work-around. I've worked out what temperature must be achieved in Power Supply Location 2 for a crash to occur, and I can watch that location in Temperature Monitor, terminating the process before that treshold is reached. Of course, that's not ideal. Second, ramping all the other fans up does significantly delay the onset of the problem, and makes recovery time much quicker.
Is there any donwside to peridically ramping up the other fans when running the relevant apps? Given that it causes all of the other locations to cool significantly, could this lessesn the life expecancy of the mahcine? (I don't want to run the fans up all the time - that's like sitting next to a jet ready for take off!)
Also, a correction to my first post: Yesterday, with all the other fans running on full and running an HD streaming video, the Power Supply Fan did, eventually, slowly, come up to ~740rpm, which is much higher than the ~640rpm maximum I had previously seen, and this may have aided delaying the onset of the problem.
I'm not sure where this leaves me? The problem might now be able managed. Well, sort-of. But it's not eliminated.

Gif file preview stopped working

New computer. Gif file preview was working last night and now I'm just getting a still picture. I installed Photo Impact Pro and that program may have made some changes. I can't preview gifs in that program. Anyone know a way to restore this feature? I would like to be able to click on a gif file and see it move in preview like it was doing.

First of all you have to make analysis of the issue.. why its comming..
thats why i had suggested you to uninstall your newer installed software.. by uninstalling them you can analyse the issue.
may be programme hadnt installed correctly thats why you are getting this error.
Please, try to troubleshoot the issue by your self.. uninstall the programme and then check.. if our .gif works with older programme perfectly then your newely installed programme having issue or it was not installed correctly..
you can install your uninstalled programme later to resolve that issue.

Ive repaired 1000s of laptops over the years (translate: diagnose and replace parts).
Its not that old, Ive owned 100s of laptops (most were free) ....some I still have are nearly 13 years old and still perfect, ....some extremely expensive ones died in under a year.
other than becoming obsolete at some point, there isnt really any "will spoil on" data like Milk for solid state computer parts, ....alas.
You can have a $5000 laptop die in 4 months, and a junker one keep kicking after 10 years.... Ive seen that firsthand countless times.
Common logic dictates that "very expensive = long life" in computers,..... but all the repair people will tell you just the opposite.
I know you have a gripe, I get that all too well honestly .

The problem started when I turned on the computer this morning. I tried to install Mozilla 4 from your website and that installed but I still have nothing on the top.

It may be due to Firebug. Seeing as how you're a web developer, it's very possible you have this installed. The latest version, 1.7X a10, appears to cause everything you described. I downgraded to "a8" and that seems to have fixed everything.
I also recreated a profile from scratch before trying this out, so I can't guarantee it's definitely Firebug.
