Tracks won't play unless put in a playlist

As of recently, songs stopped playing within the main search window, and will only play if I move them to a playlist. I haven't done any recent OS updates that would account for the change. Any ideas? Thanks!

I've got the same problem. I've been paying for spotify for several years now. Spotify, you better fix this problem.

  • I clicked "locate" when prompted, now the track won't play at all even from the hard drive though it's listed in iTunes. Can anyone help?

I was prompted to "locate" a track, clicked yes, and now the track won't play no matter where I play it from. I've put it on the desktop, added it to library, tried everything - is there an equivalent "reconnect media" function like in Final Cut Pro? I'd be grateful for any help thanks

Will it play in Quicktime player?  If not it may be corrupt and will have to be reloaded from the original source.

  • Slideshow Music tracks won't play

I've tried various iTunes tracks and the perinstalled Aperture themes like Ken Burns, holioday mobile and cuts from the Sample music folder. The tracks won't play in the slide show proper or in the music pane. And it dsoesn't matter if the tracks are added as the main or secondary tracks.
Ive rebuilt and repaired the library, deleted the Aperture plist file from ~Library>Appleication Support>Aperture and removed the presets folder. I've also done a Disk Utility permissions rebuild, Aperture permissions rebuild, Aperture Database rebuild, etc.
What I discovered last night is that Aperture will crash whenever I select Aperture>Presets>Slideshow. Selecting the other presets is fine and the appropriate dialogs will present themselves. When the Slideshow preset is selected, a minature ghost image of the dialog appears for about 2 seconds and then the app crashes.
Here's the first part of the crash log. Any help will be gratly appreciated because I'm trying to put together a slide show for my niece's wedding!!

Sorry, I should have given more details but I've posted variants of this question in many places already, moving to a different forum when advised to by others because it really does seem to be a multi-application problem.
I was sent the slideshow as part of an .rcproject file. They had tried to create a DVD but had been unsuccessful, so just sent me the project from which I could view the slideshow complete with soundtrack.
To find out how it should have been done I asked here about the easiest method in iLife to create a DVD from a slideshow and was told iDVD, but when I added the movie files back in as an intro the slideshow soundtrack disappeared and I couldn't find out where to or how to get it back.

  • TS2289 Audio Track Won't Play

I imported an audio clip yesterday and it worked fine. Today when I opened my project, there was a yellow warning triangle in the top left above the first frame of my movie and the audio track won't play. What should I do?
And where the heck is the "clock buttom"? I wasn't able to follow Apple Support's suggestions because I can't find it.
    Mike

I've adjusted my project according to Brian'statement, so I made all audio tracks and video track the same length, but it still doesn't work when I create the flash file. It plays only 1 audio track, whatever language you choose. It plays the audio track that is"active" in the project. This happens only with the flash. If I burn a DVD, then everything works fine... Am I doing something wrong ?

  • IPhone4, iPod app weirdness. Some tracks won't play. [updated]

    Hi all.
So yesterday on my way to work my iPhone4 stopped playback (iPod app), i pressed the play button, but it just didn't do anything and the track remained unplayed. I click to the next track and that one worked just fine.
This happen to serval tracks on my way to work and later on my way home, and again this morning. The patten, is that all the music that won't play are coming from a few albums, Hendrix, Red Hot Chilli Peppers blah blah blah.
I checked those track in iTunes and they played just fine. Also these tracks were downloaded from iTunes. There were not CD rips for downloads from another vender.
The only thing i did before this happened, was a sync/backup to iCloud that night before (Sunday).
As yet i have no idea what went wrong. And if you have had this happen and figured it out please let me know. Or if this is happening to you now, what are you doing to figure it out?
I, right now, am re-uploading all the music. I first removed it, all. Every album, every track. And i'm hoping that by re-installing them all over again will fix this, weird, issue.
    [Update]
Okay, so the re-install of all the music is done, and i played Jimmy Hendrix through my iPhone4. So i guess that worked. If i have anymore issue like this i'll update this post. But if you are having this same issue, than i suggest that you re-move all the music. Or rather that ones that are stalling. And re-load tham again. As i didn't want to miss any i did the lot. Hope this helps.

No replies. I've taken to noting the problem tracks and just re-ripping them from their original sources. This seems to fix the symptom at least, if not the cause.

  • Track won't play!

I have a song that won't play, even though it's been authorized, and I have not exceeded computers to play it on. It just skips over the track. I paid for it through iTunes.

  • Sometimes my videos won't play, unless I reboot

Often, when I just put my Mac to sleep, when I wake it up, videos won't play.  I have reinstalled Flash, but it still happens.  Any ideas?  Seems only to happen since the last upgrade to Mac OS X 10.7.3 Lion (11D50b)(Processor 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3 4GB 1333 MHz Ram)

Wimp.com, youtube, bliptv.  I don't think anything works.  To be specific, they play for about 2 secs, continue to load, but stop playing.

  • Section of my track won't play...

I use GB for a podcast.
I recorded some voice, when in and did some snipping and joining of a few track segements.  Then recorded a new section on the same track, but the new section won't play.  I can see there are sounds recorded, but when I play, I don't hear anything.  If I go back to the 1st recorded section - remember this is all the same track - it WILL play.
    I'm confused.

    Hello alysoftball1
There are a few things to try. The first is if it is purchased, just delete the songs and download them again from the purchases section in iTunes. The second is to try and convert the songs to a different format. The article below will assist with that further.

  • Instrument track won't play (appears grey)

All of a sudden my grand piano track is grey and won't play back. All of my other tracks work and it is NOT on mute.
I don't think I did anything differently. The only thing I can think of is that I was tinkering with audio filters for this instrument track. Could that have caused it?
How do I fix it? I don't want to have to re-record the whole thing. I'm too far ahead to do that....
Thanks! I'm waaaay to frustrated to continue. 3 hours wasted it feels like.

I will try the M button but here's why I don't think it will work:
If I copy the track's contents into a new empty track, the new track doesn't play.

  • Long track won't play on shuffle

I've uploaded some songs and podcasts to my iPod Shuffle, but some podcasts won't play at all on the Shuffle. The files all play in Itunes itself.
The podcast is a mix with a duration of about an hour. It's encoded AAC 128 Kbps. Is there a maximum duration for audio files on the Shuffle or am I doing something wrong here?
    Thanks for any help!

    Thank you! Did the trick

  • Some tracks won't play in iTunes anymore

I have a number of .mp3 files that iTunes used to play, but now no longer will. Nothing happens when I double click on them or press play. Most of my other tracks play fine.
When I "get info" about the problem tracks within iTunes, and I click on Summary, I notice that the Format, Channels, ID3 Tag, and Encoded With fields are no longer present. The file type is still MPEG, and when I locate the files through the finder and get info, they are .mp3 files with an .mp3 extension.
I've read some discussion of this problem on these boards, and some have suggested that the problem occurs when one tries to play the files through QuickTime. This isn't my case. (Quicktime says "the movie could not be opened.") But I have noticed that the problem tracks do have in common album titles in which I have included a colon. I allow iTunes to organize my files, and usually--and even in the case of these problem files--an underscore replaces the colon when iTunes creates the album folder in my Music folder. I bring this up only to suggest that one common denominator for the problem files is the presence of a colon in the album name for the iTunes tag, although the presence of a colon is not a guarantee that the file will not play.
I have tried copying a trouble file to the desktop, deleting the file from the library and from the Music folder (although I haven't emptied the trash) and then trying to restore the copy to my iTunes library. iTunes won't accept the file.
Any ideas? What a crazy problem!
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Unfortunately, you are not alone with this. However, I have yet to come across a solution to the problem after many hours trawling these discussion boards and the net.
I have exactly the same symptoms. But my common denominator is ‘missing Album Artwork’. Although the album has Artwork, all the tracks that have ceased playing and are being ignored by iTunes, have lost their Artwork.
This would suggest a problem with the ID3 tags i.e that they have become corrupted. Of course, the recent update from iTunes 6 to 7 which introduced the ‘Coverflow’ technology has coincided with the start of my problem. A quick glance at the ‘last played’ date of the problem tracks confirm that the corruption of the ID3 tag is DEFINETLY post iTunes7.
I have tried editing the metadata with an ID3 tag editor, and can change everything except the Artwork field. If anyone has found a way to restore a track after the same problem, please post…many thanks.

  • Playing Imported Audio Books - tracks won't play in order - why?

I import a lot of Audio Book CDs into my iPod Touch for convenience.
The problem is that although the tracks import in order, are correctly named and play in order from iTunes on the PC they almost never play in order on my IPod Touch, Ipod Classic or iPhone.
The Ipod just seems to shuffle playing order. I have disabled shuffle. The iPod is not automatically shuffling due to shaking.
How do I get the tracks to play in the correct orderr.

Here are some hints and guidelines for labeling and organizing audiobooks in iTunes.
Click on the first file of the audiobook imported files list. Press and hold down the “Shift” key while doing so. While you continue to hold this key down, press the down arrow on your keyboard repeatedly until all of the files (chapters) for the first audiobook are selected. At the last file of the first audiobook, click your left mouse button once. You will see all the files from the first to last file highlighted.
Go back into the “File” menu on iTunes and click on “Get Info.” This will bring up a menu of settings you can apply to the highlighted files. Click on the “Options” tab in the settings menu that appears. Make sure the media type is selected as “audiobook.” Next to “Remember position” the option of “Yes” should be indicated.
Next you’ll want to properly label the audiobook audio files. Click on the “Info” tab and fill out relevant information you want to include on the filenames for easy access. Under “album name” put the name of the book and under “artist name” put the name of the author.
Save the settings. Click on “Audiobooks” in the long left hand side menu in iTunes. This should be in the upper left hand area. You will see a list of your newly renamed audiobook files to the right hand side.
Right click on each file individually starting with the first file of the audiobook. Click “Get Info” and under the “Name” section enter “Chapter 01” and repeat this process for each track going in order changing the chapter number by one number higher each time. Chapters 1 through 9 must have a zero before the primary number such as Chapter 01 and Chapter 09.
When you are finished the audiobook will not only be in the proper track order which allows you to play the chapters in order, but the audiobook will be labeled and easy to find.

  • Music won't play unless connected to power source/charging

Music will not play on my iPhone 4S unless connected to sync cord and the sync cord must be charging.  The battery is full.  I had an issue before with the music starting/stopping sporadically  and the iPhone not recognizing when headphones were plugged in.  That seemed to resolve itself once I updated the software.  Now this....  If I disconnect from sync cord/power supply, the play button on the screen gets glitchy and the music stops.

    This sequence works:
turn on the power source (e.g. Logitech portable speakers)
power on and connect iPhone to power source via 30-pin to Lightning adapter
    connect the earphones
    start Pandora

  • I was reviewing my list of songs in my library "on my I-Pod".  I noticed that a few of the songs on the list have an Exclamation Point in front of the track, and the track won't play. How do I get rid of the Exclamation Point so that the track will play.

    Hello enrique a.
Instead of trying to re-invent the wheel on this one, take a look at an article such as this one to help you take care of these exclamations.  Basically, it means iTunes is unable to locate the file on your computer anymore.

  • Soloed Audio Tracks Won't Play Logic 9.1.8 - Background Still Does

I have a 59 track session in Logic 9.1.8. I've encountered a very odd problem. Multiple audio tracks, even when soloed, will not play; however background audio/other tracks still do. For instance, I've imported a rough vocal track to the mix and when I solo the track, I do not the vocals however I hear kick drum and piano tracks which have been muted. I have double checked every audio track's output, automation, etc…and read several other posts to try and find anyone with a similar issue, to no avail.
Some specs - the majority of the tracks are imported Audio, I have attempted to solve the issue from my MacBook Pro (2013) AND from my studio system. All of the audio and session information are stored on our dropbox server, however other projects still work fine.
Here's where it gets super weird - I even tried started the session over again and just importing in the audio tracks from scratch and there is STILL a problem - I imported 5 of the drum tracks - kick, hat, snare, taiko, and noise percussion. When I solo the taiko track, I hear the audio from the kick track and NO AUDIO from the taiko track, and this is a BRAND NEW SESSION.
    Someone PLEASE HELP.

In Logic's preferences/Audio... Is Universal Track Mode enabled?  It should be.
