Trade BW Foundation - BI Content

Dear All,
I would be commencing a SAP BW 7.0 implementation under IS-Retail source system in a few days. For this, I was going through the available Business Content documentation on SAP and found an unfamiliar term called 'Trade BW Foundation'. Upon further reading I can probably make out that it is delivered in BICONT 7.04 and above and implements the Layered Scalable Architecture (LSI) model.
I do not have any idea of the same which lead me to the following doubts -
1. What is 'Trade BW Foundation'?
2. If it does, how does it affect the existing ways that we used to implement BW for IS Retail?
3. What if I use the traditional methods of implementing BW (0RT_C01)?
4. Are there any additional settings that I need to maintain?
5. In case I want to implement the Trade BW Foundation Business Content (first layer ODSs and then InfoCubes provided in Standard Content) will it give me the same results as the traditional method of implementation.
Any guidance/references on the said topic are highly appreciated.
Thank you.

Kunal Gandhi
PS: Have used the following wiki as reference for study - http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/Retail/EnterpriseDataWarehouseServicefor+POS

Hi Martin,
Thank you for the prompt response. The link that you have sent is the same link that I have read and on the basis of which my doubts arose. Yes, it is a layer in the EDW concept, but I m keen on understanding is what is the significance of adding new objects in the standard content and how does it change the way Retail BW implementation takes place.
Would appreciate if you can throw some light on specific doubts I have raised.
Thanks again.

  • Data Sheet View - Cannot Connect to Server at This Time. You can continue working with this list, but some data may not be available

After a couple of years of trouble free operation, one of the lists in our SharePoint Foundation site suddenly (overnight) started presenting the error against Datasheet views on lists.
The view returns a large number of items when working correctly c.6K - however Throttling Settings have been adjusted accordingly some time ago without detrimental affect on SharePoint users and network in general. As admin and therefore throttling at 20k
items the error message still presents.
The view was working fine at 4:30pm Wednesday 27/3, but was returning the error at 8:30am the next morning. To my knowledge very few items (if any) had been added to the list between those times and no system level changes had been made (SharePoint,
SQL Express, or virtual Windows 2008R2 server).
The problem is most apparent on 2 lists in SharePoint. I've checked that the settings within SharePoint admin are set to deal with queries that should accommodate the
number of rows that are returned by the views associated with that list. It is still possible to create new items to the list and access data via 'standard views' that are presented with groups that are collapsed.
Items in Documents Libraries on other parts of SharePoint and within the same subsite can be accessed at what feels like pretty normal speed -though small query size
may mean the problem is masked to a large extent.
    More Specific
The lists still open in Standard View -though much more slowly than was the case before the above error started to present.
    List Details
Referrals Tracker (10,442 items) -the list was 10,420 something items on Wednesday when all was working fine.
    LD Tracker (4,390 items)
Both lists have grown incrementally over the period of a couple of years rather than by adding a block of data to the list. Items are added/ updated one at a time using the associated
form or directly into cells within a datasheet  view.
That it is also experienced against the smaller list suggests to me that the number of items in the Referrals Tracker is not the main factor here.
In attempting to resolve the issue I have managed to get datasheet views working that deliver 100 items and c2k items. Both views present much more slowly than we would normally expect.
    Throttling Settings
List view limit - 12K items - has been this high for some time without damaging SharePoint performance across the company.
Actions Taken So Far (no improved performance seen)
The SharePoint Foundation WSS Content DB did was closer to the 10GB SQL Express limit earlier this month, however a clear down and rationalisation of versioning settings
was undertaken to ensure that did not become a problem going forward.
We did a Shrink on Thursday (the day the issue started presenting) to rationalise whitespace as all indicators were that this was where the problem may lie, but this has
    not resolved the problem.
The WSS Content DB now sits at c5.5GB.
    What I Need to Know
    1) I'd like to understand what is causing the problem?
    2) What the fix is? or,
    3) How I might go about diagnosing the problem further to arrive at a fix.
With all the above, I'm part wondering if the problem is related to the virtual server or poss SQL Express related rather than being a 100% SharePoint issue?

    Hi
    afearn,
More often this is related to columns which are not editable by user, some columns are not editable in datasheet view. Please check if there is any new column addition and then you started getting this issue.
Also datasheet view displays all items on same page so definitely it takes little long time then load in standard view.
Let us know your results, thanks

  • EPM 11.1.2.4 configuration failed

    Hello Masters,
I have 2 servers configured with EPM 11.1.2.4 planning,
    Server A
    Foundation services
    Planning
    EAS
    Provider services
    Server B
    Essbase server
    EAS
    Provider services
In server A everything seems fine, post configuration all the URLs are up and running fine. But in server B, I am registering the apps with the same shared services in A.... all goes fine except the deploy to the application server (using the same weblogic domain in A) for EAS and Provider services is failing.
Please your quick suggestions are highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Siva

    Hi John,
I am sorry to ask you again.... but still... just to confirm.. as per the below installed components on server A & B,... the components that are there in B also configured with the same shared services and weblogic in A... so is there any way to make the Provider services in B work with this setup itself? or do we definitely need to configure this provider services with the webserver in B to get that work?
    Server A,
         -Foundation
              -Weblogic app server
              -Oracle HTTP
              -Static contents

  • Installation of EPM 11.1.2

    Hi everyone!
I am having some troubles installing some applications of the EPM 11.1.2 media pack.
    I am trying to install
    -Oracle Shared Services 11.1.2
    -Oracle Essbase 11.1.2
    -Oracle Essbase Administration server 11.1.2
    -Oracle Planning 11.1.2
on Windows Vista Business with Service Pack 2.
I got the Installer, the four Foundation, Additional Contents and the various applications files from e-delivery and oracle website.
The installation goes fine, the only problem seems to be a component named Oracle Http Server that cannot be installed. I don't know if it's critical, though.
When installation is concluded, configuration button is not working (as I red is happening to most of you), but the main problem is I don't have anything but WebLogic on Start menu. The installation folder has been created, there is plenty of stuff in it, and I can launch from there Essbase Studio. But I can't find under EPM/products/foundation any directory where to configure the apps.
Planning seems not to be working, I checked between Services and there is no Hyperion Service going on.
Also, I tried to follow John Goodwin's steps (http://john-goodwin.blogspot.com/2010/04/epm-1112-installation.html) during the installation, until our results diverged.
Does anyone know something about that?
    Thanks!

  • Screen capture to poster

I need to produce a poster for our trade show. The content of the poster needs to be screen shots of our application. Is there any known software or strategies for handling this?
    Thanks,
    Al

    Full-monitor screenshots?
Shots of smaller application windows, dialogues or menus?
Please provide some physical dimensions (i.e.: inches W × inches H) you wish for these items to appear. For example: If a dialogue box captures at 300pxW × 400pxH, how big in INCHES (or cm) do you want it to print at?
Understand that for large/grand format printing often you can get away with printing at 72dpi, or even 36 dpi, because they're usually viewed from a distance of 4 feet or more.
Screenshots are tough to enlarge to any great magnification because the pixel data just doesn't exist.
If you want that 300pxW × 400pxH dialogue box to appear crystal clear when printed at 48 inches W × 64 inches H, it just isn't going to happen.

  • Do I have to install SharePoint Foundation 2013 via a script in order to name my content databases without the GUID references?

    Hi,
I want to install SharePoint Foundation 2013 on a standalone server with SQL Express but I want to be able to name the content databases without their GUID references. Will I have to use an install script (AutoSPInstaller perhaps?) to achieve this?
    Thanks.

You can't do a standalone install if you want the alias (also if you plan to move the databases in the future)
You'll need to create the alias before you create the farm with the Configuration wizard or PowerShell so you can specify the alias. Whether you create the alias before or after installing SQL Express doesn't matter as long as it points to the instance.

  • Is Quick View (preview of file contents under search results) supported in SharePoint 2013 Foundation?

We recently deployed SharePoint 2013 Foundation but can't make Quick View (seeing the contents of a file when you hover the mouse cursor over it) work in the search results.
All Site Collection/Site Features are turned on.  Not sure what else to do.
Does anyone have this feature working in SharePoint 2013 Foundation?
    Thank you!

    Hi Charlie,
To view the Preview of the Search Results you need to Install/Configure Office Web Apps Server in your farm.

Not OOTB, no.  You could absolutely take advantage of the JavaScript Object Model or REST API and write some JavaScript to aggregate data for you.  Check this post for a sample:

  • Can I trade Macbook Pro's and all it's contents with another one?

Does anyone know how to trade MacBook pros?  My wife and I want to swap macbooks it that possible to swap all their contents?

It's possible but not quick, you will need to make a complete backup of each Mac, then erase them both, then restore the backups to the machine you want them to be on.
Unless you have 10.7 or newer you will also need the original discs that came with the machine(s)
You will also need 2 external drives to house the backups until restored.

  • Advices for organizing content in SP2013 Foundation

    Hallo everybody
we are studying SP to apply it to this situation:
    some hundreds of "contracts", i.e. collections of documents (varying from 1 to 100 PDFs, DOCs, emails);
    a hierarchic categorization of the contracts (eg. assistance, consulting, consulting / infrastructure, consulting / operations..);
    some document templates available to specific categories; hence the user can create only some type of documents within a contract, according to the category it belongs to;
Which could be a good implementation? I.e.
    categories as document libraries?
contract' name as document' property (using views to group documents for each contract)?
document creation restriction by using routes (even if this doesn't avoid using a document template which is not available for the category of the destination contract)
I admit this is quite a 10,000 feet question, we are asking for some direction: surely, it may need many more elements for an accurate analysis and we will be happy to provide them :)
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
I would propose you go with Document Set approach. Based on your categories, create your document libraries in which Document Set is enabled and with required metadata.
Then create a list with same set of metadata and this list will be used by users to create a new Contract. Once user submits the form of the list, at the backend your code should check what category is selected by the user and based on that programmatically
create a document set in corresponding document library with metadata copied into it.
Secondly, this is obvious that these document libraries will reach item limit threshold so plan for archiving the contracts in a sub site or some other site collection and make them available for users via Search Service. YOu have to also think about the
permission management for these contracts (each Document set). If you have a requirement for item level permission then I do not think SharePoint is a right candidate for this requirement because if you have 1000s of contracts then breaking item level permission
will not be good. Somehow you have to provide the permissions at document library for AD groups.
Let me know if you have further queries on this. Thanks.

    <h1>Systems Trading</h1>
<p>A Trading System is an automatic implementation of a trading strategy through the use of entry and exit orders based on a set of predefined rules. One major reason trading systems have become so popular is the basic concept that automated systems trading is supposed to takes out the human emotion of trading. These  trading systems are also able to deploy complex strategies more easily and efficiently. The use of such trading systems has intensified with the continuous growth in the volume of trade worldwide.</p>
<p>Computerized Systems Trading methods rely on one simple assumption, that  price trends may be discerned in the futures markets and speculative risk can be reduced utilizing such trading systems. These trading systems are able to calculate very large mathematical ideas within a very short period of time, thus supposedley giving the edge to the systems trader. </p>
<p>I would like to point out that the by utilizing trading systems it is not the holy grail to trading. Though there are plenty of gurus on the internet that supposedy have found the secret with their trading systems and for a mere x amount of dollars you too can own or lease the their holy grail of trading. It is my intention just to make the buyer of these systems aware that utilizing trading systems is a viable option but is not without the same risk every trader assumes when speculating in the commodity markets.</p>
<p>With that said systems trading has it's definite advantages for certain type's of traders and also has it's drawbacks. In this article I will address some of the advantages, disadvantages, system concepts and alternate recsources for system traders. We also invite you to share some of your insights about systems trading and how it may have helped or hindered you in your pursuit of profits in the marekts.</p>
    <h2>Advantages  of Systems Trading</h2>
<p>The first advantage for systems trading is that once it is developed, tested and implemented the need for a trader to monitor the markets and implement the trades are no longer necessary. Computers become the trade executioner and manager. Therefore, a trader that does not have the ability to monitor the markets as do professional traders then a trading system might be a good way for this type of trader to participate in the markets.</p>
<p>Another advantage of system trading is that it takes the emotion out of trading, which is often cited as one of the biggest problems traders encounter. By utilizing a trading system a commodity trader need not make any decisions, which in turn will make an automated trading system more consistent in it's entry and exit of trading strategies.</p>
<p>And if you don't have the time or experience to develop your own trading system you could buy or lease a trading system. Some companies sell trading systems that they have created while other companies will give you the signals generated by their trading systems for a fee. You may also have a profitable manual trading strategy that can benefit from automation, but you lack the necessary programming skills. In this instance there are companies that will take your manual strategy and automate it. There are other companies that can audit your trading system or proposed trading system and suggest areas of improvement. which could substantially improve your bottom line results. There are definetley plenty of resources for traders looking at utilizing trading systems.</p>
    <h2>Disadvantages of Systems Trading</h2>
<p>Trading Systems can be very complex and typically required a thorough understanding of technical analysis, order entry and risk management. Acquiring these skills can be time consuming and overwhlming for novice and intermediate commodity traders.</p>
<p>Another reality of designing, building and testing a trading system is that it can be very time consuming. A non-professional trader who has other commitments may just not have the time required to develop the trading system and get it online functioning properly.</p>
<p>Another disadvantage system traders encounter is that simulated results sometimes differ greatly from actual results and can be a major problem to implementing the trading system. The reason could be the accuracy of the data, slippage, transaction costs and or commissions. </p>
<p> A commodity trader attempting to design and build a trading system may find themselves frustrated and overwhelmed with the process. Therefore, don't forget it sometimes a systems consultant can be worth the expense in helping get your trading system working properly.</p>
<p>There is no fool proof trading system and there are many type of trading system to choose. There are systems that specialize in certain markets and or designed specifically for day trading or longer-term time frames. Each trading system will have unique characteristics in regard to money management, time in the market and whether it is part of a single or diversified portfolio.</p>
    <h2>Types of Trading Systems</h2>
<p>Most trading systems are based upon technical analysis, which is what I will be focusing on. Trading systems are based on technical analysis such as; moving averages, relative strength indicators, chaos theory, fibonacci retracements just to name a few. They can be simple to very complex in how they generate trading signals and can be implemented in several markets or just one.</p>
<p> There are thousands of trading systems that generally operate on one of three time frames or objectives. The times frames are typically intraday, intra-week or intra-month and long term. Each of these time frames can se a commodity trader implement a trend-following system, a  countertrend system or a breakout system.</p>
<p>Each system strategy and time frame has advantages and disadvantages and the common denominator within all these systems is that they all are fully automated and do not require constant monitoring of the markets once deployed.</p>
<p>A Trend-Following System is probably the most common method of system trading. In it's most basic form, this trading system simply watis for a significant price movement in one direction and then buys or sells the commodity in that direction. A trading system designed with this concept will utilze such trading models as a moving average crossover. </p>
<p>A Countertrend system is basically the opposite of a trend-following system. The fundamental idea behind countertrend trading systems is to sell when markets are rallying and buy when markets are selling-off. A trading system designed with this basic concept will utilize differenct types of Oscillators that illustrate trend weakness or strength through mathematical calculationssuch as Stochastics or Relative Stregth Indicators.</p>
<p>A Breakout Trading System is based on the theory that if a market establishes a new high or low, the price movement is most likely to continue in the direction of the breakout. An example of a simple breakout system would be if a previous high in a market  over a period of days, weeks or months was broken and a buy stop order was deployed would be an example of a very simple Breakout System.</p>
<p>Just like anything in regard to trading there are no magic wands or super secret trading systems that will make you a millionare overnight. Trading is a game of calculated risks in the pursut of profit and the type of methodology you decide to employ whether it is a manual trading system you designed or an automated system designed for you it all comes down to your personal preference. </p>
    <h2>Systems Trading Design</h2>
<p>In planning a trading system here are some basic principles that govern the construction of any trading system. A Trading System must be objective, easy to use and must give clear entry and exit signals. Furthermore a Trading System must produce winning trades while not only attempting to limit the risk per trade but also too keep the drawdowns to a minimum.</p>
<p>These are the foundation blocks from which a trading system can be designed, contructed, tested and implemented, though they are not a guarantee of succeess. This artilce has given you a basic understanding of trading systems and the different types of trading systems that are deployed in the commodities market. Be sure to utilize the resources found on this website to help you in all aspects of systems trading. </div>

  • SharePoint Foundation 2010 Workspace problem

I've installed sharepoint foundation 2010 in a Windows server 2008 R2 standard environment. I've added some site collections and added some libraries to the site pages. Ive put in various permissions and groups and tested no problem using
Sharepoint workspace 2010 on a Windows 7 32 bit client.
But when I do a remote desktop connection to another server with 2008 R2 standard installed I can't get Sharepoint workspace 2010 to work properly. It opens an account and connects to my sharepont site but in the pane to the right where I would normally
see library documents listed all that comes up is an error stating - Error: Cannot Display Tool.
Also if I try to sync I get the following error:-
    The parameter is incorrect
    HResult: 0x80070057 (0x386d7565)
    Process: Groove.exe (ID:17936(0x00004610))
No amount of googling has found a solution, no similar postings had any resolutions.
Any help would be much appreciated

My apologies. I'd focused on the error and hadn't adequately read the information you provided on the environment. The issue is probably with using SharePoint Workspace on the remote computer, not with SharePoint Foundation.
Here is what I understand you to be doing:
You use Remote Desktop to connect to the Windows Server 2008 R2 computer, where you log in with your domain account, which is a member of the local Users group.
On the remote computer, you start SharePoint Workspace.
On the Launchbar, you click New, click SharePoint Workspace, select your site, and then click
    OK.
The workspace is created and appears (from the progress bar) to download content.
When you click Open Workspace, no content is displayed. Instead, you see the "Cannot Display Tool" error.
    Is that correct?
There are three areas where SharePoint Workspace is complicated to run remotely:
Where SharePoint Workspace will be run by a user other than the one installing it, it must not be lauched during the installation. This seems the most likely to be the issue, as we have seen the same failure and error at a customer site where several
users had been given a computer image created on a computer where SharePoint Workspace had been launched before image creation.
Only one user should run SharePoint Workspace (Groove.exe) at a time. (Sometimes multiple instances work, but it's not reliable.)
You need to have a local profile on the computer which is running SharePoint Workspace. SharePoint Workspace is not supported with Roaming or Temporary profiles. Usually, this problem would prevent you from starting SharePoint Workspace, but some
environments with custom permissions can lead to other errors.
SharePoint Workspace uses the current user's permissions for SharePoint server access, In the case of Forms-Based authentication, it prompts for credentials at workspace creation, but then uses the credentials in the active browser session when opening
the workspace. I think this could only be related to your problem if you are logged in as another user in your browser, and that user has access to some, but not all, of the site your workspace connects to.

  • SharePoint Foundation 2010: search error: "Your search cannot be completed because of a service error."

    Hi,
I have SharePoint Foundation 2010 running on a single server with databases, with a second server in the farm serving as a 2nd app tier. Both server have the exact same versions of SharePoint loaded (according to the Central Admin site).
Whenever I try to run a search from any site in my SharePoint Foundation 2010 installation (in this example I typed "this is my query"), it hangs for 20-30 seconds while the IE status bar says:
    Waiting for http://SERVER2010:80/tfs/SITE1/_layouts/searchresults.aspx?k=this%20is%20my%20query&u=http%3A%2F%2Ftfs2010db%2Ftfs%2FSITE1
Then it finally returns a results screen with an error that says: "Your search cannot be completed because of a service error. Try your search again or contact your administrator for more information."
Checking the SharePoint logs under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS, the relevant entries say the following (items I deem important

Not sure what "resource limit is reached" actually means. This SharePoint installation is running under regular SQL 2008 R2, and the
WSS_Content database is fairly small (10gig). I've reviewed the Search Service, the process account running it, the
WSS_SEARCH index database, and verified that the Content database is using the proper index database. Everything looks like it should be crawling/indexing/working fine. But the WSS_SEARCH
database isn't very large, so I'm not sure if the crawling is actually filling it with anything.
Not sure where to start seriously troubleshooting this. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
The query ran in tens of seconds. This indicates that at some point a bad plan compiled and stayed in the cache.
It may have gotten there because the statistics were out of date.
A possible way to keep this from happening is to rebuild statistics with full scan more frequently.
Try free the proc cache and see the result.
