Trade-In Rebates for new iPods???

Im a bit angry the new iPods are out so soon and I just got mine not even a year ago. The big thing for me is the battery power - _(Even the new Nano) 3X 's what Ive got in the 30gb._ Does anyone know if Apple will be offering any trade in rebates of any kind - espiecially around the holliday season? Such as maybe $50 or so off with the trade-in of the old one

I understand your pain. There is no question that it is a bummer when you buy a product and then you notice that the next generation comes out and you get more for your money. This happens with televisions, digital cameras, computers, anything electronic and all brands.
I just wonder, would someone have an viable idea of how to make this less painfull?
Everyone who has ever bought an electronic product has this experience. EVERYONE. Not just the few who complain bitterly on this message board.
These products are retail products and are sold in a brick & mortar store as well as online. The store sells them until the product is replaced by a newer model. The sales team is never told when the new models will replace the old models.
One day the new models arrive, and the old models are removed.
There is one day only when the change happens...someone will have bought one the day before...how else would you do it?
If the sales person tells everyone "don't buy the product in the store, because the new model will be here in a month", then you have a store sitting there not able to sell ...should you close the store for a month?
I can't see how else you would do it!?!?
Should you close the store forever? Because now that you've bought the 160 GIG iPod., you KNOW it will be replaced by something better, and who knows when? in 2 months? in 6 weeks? in a year??
The minute you buy an electronic product, it becomes the old model, because you know they are working on the new/next models right now!
Do you feel better if the new model comes out 3 months later? 4 months later? 5 months later?
Here is what I think:
Choose the product that you buy carefully, expect a better one to come out at any time, make sure you buy what you want, and then enjoy it for it's lifetime, or be prepared to sell it somehow if you want a different one.
Any better ideas?

It's not just iTunes you need to update...
You need to upgrade to Leopard v10.5.8 at the very least in order to sync, restore, and backup an iPod touch.
See iPod touch system requirements here.
Leopard is available from Amazon here.

  • Can i replace new ipod 4 for new ipod 5?

Thanks to warranty my old iPod 4 will be replaced so I will Get a new iPod 4. Is there any chance I can replace that brand new iPod 4 64GB for new iPod 5 32GB?
iPod 4 64GB is worth more than iPod 5 32 GB but I still would rather have the new one. Is there any chance I can get that?

  • Faulty Nano Trade in for New Ipod?

Can I trade in my faulty Nano and get the New Ipod, paying the rest of the money, instead of getting another Nano? Because when they say "Impossibly Small" they mean "Impossibly Delicate". My firned went through 3 Nanos and had to replace all of them because they were faulty and supposedly only 1% are and I don't want to go through the chance of that happening again, so is there a possibility that I can get credit towards the New Ipod?

  • New IPod Touch will not sync with Itunes-updated to iOS 7.1.1 for new IPod

Just purchased new IPod Touch (purchased 6-3-14 - had a Classic until it fried). After setting it up, I tried to sync to ITunes and it says it syncs but does nothing. No music transferred to IPod. I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8 if that means anything. This is very frustrating as I am not a computer whiz and really want to use my IPod in my really long commutes to work. Thanks for any insight...

    Hi abbeyesque,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like your iPod touch is recognized and syncing, but it isn't transferring the content that you expect to be transferred. Take a look at the article linked below, it will show you how to select the iPhone in iTunes and where the tabs are (second picture) that control what is synced to the iPod.
iOS: Syncing your data with iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386
    Sync using USB
    Open iTunes.
Connect the iOS device to your computer using the included USB cable.
Click the Device button in the upper-right corner. (If viewing the iTunes Store, click the Library button first.) If you don't see your device, you may need to hide the sidebar. Choose View > Hide Sidebar.
Some tabs may not appear if you don't have the corresponding content in your library. For example, if you don't have any podcasts in your library, the Podcast tab won't appear.
Click Apply, in the lower-right corner of the screen, to sync.

  • Why no firewire support for new iPods?

If firewire is so much better and faster why did the geniuses at Apple decide to discontinue support for it? It took me over 30 minutes to upload music & videos to my new iPod w/ USB, which would have taken 5-10 minutes with Firewire. I don't get it!

They did it because they obviously didn't see the need for it.
Either you have a usb 1.1 port, or have about 500mb of music. The speeds aren't that different between USB2.0 and FW. In fact, i think USB is faster. Stop complaining here, this is only a user-user support forum.

  • Older powerbook, trying to get it up to snuff for new ipod

First, thanks in advance for your help.
I am trying to run a new ipod Classic on my G4 Powerbook with the following specs:
    OS: Mac OS X 10.3.9
    Hardware Overview:
Machine Model: PowerBook G4 15", CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1), Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.33 GHz, L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 K, Memory 256 MB, Bus Speed:167 MHz
I am aware (now) that I need 10.4.8 or higher (I know it's written on the box...). I have read through roughly 25 pages of posts and could not find the answer to my questions. Here they are:
How do I upgrade my current OS to 10.4.8 or higher given my hardware limitations (add more RAM? Possible even?)?
    - I saw that Leopard was too much for my modest Powerbook, but think maybe Tiger will get me there. Am I wrong to think that?
Can I use Tiger on this CPU? Will it run 10.4.8 or higher? How do I find and install Tiger as I cannot buy it anymore from the online store, only Leopard is available.
Do I need a new computer to run my iPod, or does someone here have a suggestion as to what I could possibly do short of buying a whole new CPU for my new iPod to connect with?
Again, thanks very much for your help, and I hope there are some options available to me.
    Best regards,
    NSS

There's nothing wrong with your question. There are just no great answers.
OS10.4.x Tiger would be fine for you, much better with 1-2GB of RAM. However, it's hard to find for sale now commercially. I have no idea if the license allows a private party to sell you their old copy or not. Maybe in a year, some of the used equipment vendors will have it, but even then, the price will probably be so close to just buying Leopard, you may as well do that. Especially if you upgrade RAM.
As a practical matter, I would suggest upgrading RAM to 1 or 2 GB and buying Leopard OS10.5.x. Unless you don't have a DVD drive, or are tied to using Classic. Leopard doesn't run Classic.

  • Can't finish setup for new ipod

I recently lost my ipod and purchased a new 3rd generation nano. I reinstalled itunes, but cannot get past the software license agreement screen. Every time, I select "I have read and understand the agreement", then press save button. The agreement is saved to my hard drive, but then I return to the same screen. There is no way to synch my new ipod or put any music on it. Can someone give me clear instructions on how to deal with this problem? I sure wish I hadn't spent the money for another Apple product.

Open the Control Panel, click on Displays, and set the monitor's resolution to at least 1024 by 768.

  • Microphone for new iPod nano?

    Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a microphone you can buy for the new iPod Nano? I record a lot of acoustic music and need to get it into my iTunes Library. I'd rather not carry my iBook around.
    Thanks
Aluminum iPod Nano, iBookG4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

the new nanos can do recording - the old ones cant.
im confused, is this nano your speaking about the
black glossy one?, cuase if it is the microphone
    is
not compatible with it is it?
the new nanos are the 2 generation of the old ones, only apple snatched the samsung glossy nanos since they had the patent and jumped on it at that quarter year, yes seccess story.
But as i remember, they all record yet apple never provided a microphone solution for them., and the older iPods all have accesories like mics etc etc. and all the new iPods do not, or maybe the 30 and 60 gigs do but are very expensive.
Can anyone confirm how to record on a nano and what mics to get?

  • Games for new iPOD classic

I just bougth a new iPOD classic. One friend that came to USA to Colombia bougth the iPOD and now I want to install some games. But I saw that if I want to buy games I need an account and an address from USA. I don't have that options... how can I get some games for my new iPOD classic.
    Thanks...

Um.... yeah I bought my Classic to play music on. I rarely play video games but there were two I had to buy since they were available for the classic, Ms Pacman and Tetris. I also use mine to watch videos that I purchase from iTunes, I have several TV shows seasons.
Why does it matter what I use my iPod for?

  • 10.4.11 no good anymore for new ipoda

    Hi guys
I have a 2007 macbook which I am very happy with. I had no problems running 10.4.11 up to now.
Now I see apple are making it harder for me to shop with them as all new products require 10.5. However if your a pc user you can hang onto windows xp! Why are us loyal mac users being punished. Its not as if the ipad or latest ipods have any mega requirements. One would have thought itunes 10 would do the job. I always keep this up to date. So now to continue using my mac and use new ipods I have to put my machine under pressure with 10.5 (plus the cost!). I hear this will keep the fan running alot as I only have 2gb. Does anyone else feel frustrated?

I can think of another reason to still own a Tiger: cost.
I have been completely satisfied with macs, until now. My computer (Mac OS X 10.4.11) works great, except that now apple is saying it's too old for new software! I just bought an 4G I pod to find out that I have to spend yet more money to buy Leopard just so I can get music on it! I'll just bring my songs to my friend with a 10 year old PC and have him update it, the next computer I'll buy is a PC, one that won't make me pay to update software every 3 years! I bought this for my college computer, to last me 4 years at least, it's been 3 1/2. When you buy a computer you expect it to be durable and last a decent amount of time. I don't have money to buy the most recent version, especially when my PC friends don't have to worry about it! Really, this is frustrating.

  • How  do i transfer music from old ipod to itunes for new ipod

Im not sure how I am suppose to take the 200 songs that i dont have on my itunes that is on my old ipod, and how Im suppose to transfer this music onto my itunes to get it on to my new ipod??? oh and clicking on the enable disc use isnt working so please and suggestions would be great

    Hi Jperto99
You need to Either get 3rd party software or do it this way
You need to be able to view hidden files on your computer , you need to go to the control panel and find folder options. (i believe that you could change the settings on in the windows explorer by clicking view at the top menu bar. you need to click it so that you can see the hidden files. (i think this explains simply what i said Tools -> Folder Options -> View, and then check (enable) the option “Show hidden files and folders.”)
Next find your ipod now if you have enabled hidden files you need to click on your ipod and find a folder called ipod control. the folder itself will look different maybe a bit transparent because it is hidden. Next you will go in and if you explore further you will see loads of files (transparent like ipod control) with things like F34 F01 (or F1) etc.
They are the files with your music on it and if you click on them, they will show music files but they wont have names. they are encrypted with file names like AKLY (basically four letters or 3 letters put together in capitals) so to get the names and other suff back simply drag the music files into itunes or import them individually (the folders) into itunes by clicking file, import into itunes and by folder.
Then once you have done this the names should be correct in Itunes.
Alternitavely you can drag all the files in 'ipod control' into an external Hard Drive if you go into itunes prefrences you can let itunes put all your music on your computer into organized files of album names.
Hope that Helped (if you don't understand what i said this guide is pretty good http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/copying-music-from-ipod-to-co mputer/P0)
Also if your willing to spend money by doing all of this in one click then this program for £14 (not sure in $) is really good. the free version (does 5 songs at a time) but the great thing is, is that it transfers directly to itunes you can get it here http://www.findleydesigns.com/
You can get other free 3rd party software ill try and find a list for you if you want

  • Speakers for new ipod shuffle

I have just purchased the new ipod shuffle blue 4gb, and am having trouble finding any speakers/docking station for this certain ipod. It would be helpful if anybody could let me know if they have some and where abouts they were bought from. Thankyou

    From your backup.
You should backup any purchases as you are not allowed to download them again. After you have one computer failure why did you not backup your data?
You must look after your own things.
