Trading in 4th generation for 5th
I just got a new 4th generation last week becaus my old one broke, and i had the extended warranty. but now i have this brand new 4th generation while everyone else has new 5th generations. the 5th generation however is $300. which is the same cost as my new 40gb. so can i bring my new 40gb into an iPod store and exchange it for a 5th generation?
Did you buy it at an Apple store? I think they have a 14 day return policy (minus a restocking fee if the package is open).
Call them and ask.

does anydoy know if you can trade a 4th generation ipod in for a new 5th generation? only a few months after i bout mine, the color ipods went down to $300, then a nother month or too, the videos came out for the same price. this is not fair and a rip off. and yes i understand that they are trying to make more money, just like video game systems but still.
all you can do is trade in an old ipod for 10% off of a new one. i bet you could sell yours on ebay or something for more, but there is no way to trade in without paying another $250 or so (i know, it *****, i got a new ipod photo in june, then the regular ipod got a color screen, so i paid an extra $150 for nothing!)

If you purchased it within the last 14 days you can return it for a full refund and then purchase the 5G. Otherwise Apple will only give you a 10% recycling discount if you turn in an old iPod and purchase a new one.

I just got a new iPod Touch 4th generation for my daughter. I have a iPhone 5 that is already set up on iTunes. The only thing I want on her iPod from my iTunes is music and apps. How do I set her iPod up so that it only gets that information? Do I set it up as a new device? If so will that alter my iTunes?

But you'll have to use your Apple ID to sync bought media to her device. Disable all other things you don't want to sync like photos, contacts, etc. -

Under Part 9. Verify that USB drivers are installed, did you try the steps in If only "Unknown Device" appears? That appears to be your situation.
Also, you said that the shuffle initially worked well enough to do a sync, then it had the same problem again. If you can get it to work again initially, before doing anything else, try the following. Select the shuffle in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES. Over to the right, go to the Summary tab. By default, the checkbox for Enable disk use should be unchecked. If so, check it and Apply the change. See if that makes any difference.
(If Enable disk use was already checked, try unchecking it and Apply the change. Basically, set it the "other way" and see if there is any improvement.)
NOTE: When disk use is enabled, you have to eject the iPod in iTunes before disconnecting it physically.
If the disk use change makes a difference, that may provide a clue about the actual cause. -

what is the difference between i pod touch 4th generation and 5th generation because i am choosing what to buy
5 has hd FaceTime, 4 does not, 5 has 5x better camera with flash, 5 is faster, has bigger and better screen and has siri, 4 does not. Also, 5 comes in more colours and has wriststrap (also 5 comes with better earphone and has smaller, reversible and faster charging connector)

I have made a playlist on my iPod touch 4th generation for some friends' wedding and I want to play the list in the order I wrote it. It keeps shuffling though, so how do I play it in track order
In iTunes, before you sync the playlist, you can right click on the playlist and select the option that says "Copy Play Order" that will preserve list in the order you have them.

The WiFi isn't working on my 4th generation anymore. I have several devices connected to the WiFi which two of them are iPhone 5 that haven't had ant problems with WiFi. I have had my iPod for a year. I have tried everything and it still doesn't work. Any ideas? Thanks.

Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

That would be the wireless number assigned by AT&T when the purchaser of the iPhone signed up as a customer with AT&T. If neither you nor your uncle ever activated the iPhone with AT&T, click the "non customer" button.
Note that jailbreaking often renders it impossible to get an iPhone officially unlocked, so don't be surprised if it fails. If it does, then you may have to buy a new iPhone, this time one that is officially unlocked.

Upgrading from 4th generation to 5th Help
I have the 4th generation click wheel ipod and i was thinking i could upgrade to the new 5th generation video color ipod it looks real cool and fun to use and play with on long trips or whatever. i do not have the insurance on my ipod and i was thinking what is the best way to upgrade my ipod. please post help on what to do or the easiest way to do so.

Apple will give you 10% off a new iPod if you take your old one in to an Apple store, but if your fourth gen is still working, you'll probably get more than that if you sell it on ebay or something. Then you can put that money towards a new iPod. Then you won't need to find all those Creedence tapes little Larry must've pawned.

I have had a ipod touch for a few years( 4th generation) and now withing 10 minutes of use it heats up very warm and only holds it's charge for about a hour if im lucky any help?

So, I have had an Ipod touch (fourth generation) for a little less than a year now, and I have never had any problems with it until the latest version of itunes came out. Now, my ipod never can sync (I left it up for an hour before and it only got to step 2 out of 7), and I can't add any more music to my ipod! To make it worse, about 100 songs that I had deleted off my ipod, but could still be found in my itunes library, appeared again on my ipod! But, they are grayed out and I can't listen to them so they just take up space.
