Trading in an ipod

I have a question about trading in a 3G ipod. I first had a mini, but when my sister's 3G broke, she bought a photo Ipod, and I got the replacement 3G. However, ever since I got it I had the impression that it wasn't new, but just one that they had previously fixed (I don't know if that is their policy or not but due to hard drive clicking and how long it took songs to load, I have a feeling it wasn't out of the box new). I got this on December 1st and when loading my songs, itunes would always freeze and I'd have to start over. It took me about 3 days to get them all on there due to the freezing problem. Ever since it has been working ok, certainly not as good as my new mini did when I first got that, but there were no major problems. For Christmas I got an iHome, it was working fine with that. Then this morning I took it out to put some new songs onto it and my Ipod wouldn't turn out. My computer won't recognize it and there is a sad face etc....
Knowing that it probably wasn't completely new to begin with, and also knowing how much I want the video ipod, I really have no desire to fix this one again. I was just wondering what apples policy is on trading in ipods for a new model. How much money do you get back? And does it matter the condition of the ipod? By this I mean the hardware, because it is barely used, no marks or anything except on the back from my fingers. Would I have to first get that fixed?
Thanks for any help!

while yes i do want a new one, i wouldn't purposefully break mine or blow the money on it if the current one didn't already have a problem. However, I had a feeling that it did from the very beginning with the noises it was making in the hard drive and there is absolutely nothing I did, never dropped it, treated it perfectly because I have owned two iPods perviously and know how they need to be treated, for it to suddenly break. I do not want to replace it and have the same problem occur again, so yes I am willing to trade it in for what I am assured is a new one. I don't see a problem with that, I'm just checking out other opitions. Anyway I said knowing that it probably wasn't new. I have no proof, but then why would a brand new machine act that way when first turned on? If you have any helpful suggestions for me that would be lovely and greatly appreciated, but i don't see a need to question my motives. I'm just asking a simple question.

  • Trading in broken iPod Touch for new one

I left my my 4th generation iPod touch on outside on a cold day and water condensation got inside. My iPod is fully functional except there's a white streak that runs from top to bottom on the left side of the screen. I went to the Apple Store and one of the employees informed me that I can do some sort of trade off for a new ipod? I don't quite recall what he said but I believe I would get some sort of discount. If anyone knows the answer or other options I might have, I would highly appreciate. Thanks!

Apple will only give you a 10% recycling discount if you turn in an old iPod when you purchase a new one. Better off selling it yourself.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB one and $99 for the others. They do not fix yours.

  • Is it worth trading in my iPod Touch 4th Gen. for an iPod Touch 5th Gen.?

And will the iPod Touch 4th Gen. get the iOS 7 update as well? I keep getting mixed answers on this question.

the 4 cannot get iOS7. The 5 can.
If you take your device into an apple store they will give you a 10% discount for recycling your old device.
However I sold my 'like new' condition 4 to best buy for $70 and could have gotten over $100 for it on Amazon, so if you're in the US, you have other options that'll get you more than the $30 or so you'll get from an Apple store (10% of a 32 gig iPad would be around $30)
You can even look into listing it on ebay, craig's list or other places that will buy them. I even have a local used dvd store here that'll buy old devices.
If you're looking to save a few bucks on your new device, I would recommend the other options than the 10% you get from Apple. Find the right place, and depending on the condition of your device (mine was literally like new, not a single scratch) you can get the equivalent of a 30% discount (Using my $70 towards the purchase of a $299 device).....and if I'd wanted to wait a couple of weeks, it'd have been almost 50% if I'd mailed it into Amazon. (I believe at that point in time they would have paid up to $150 for it)

  • Discount for trading in a old ipod touch for a new?

is there any way i can get a discount by trading my old ipod touch in for a new one?
i have the 1g and the only issues it has are from software upgrades (no-wifi) and hardware issues from bad manufacturing i guess
is it possible to get a discount?
because it angers me how apples products have ruined themselves and im the one to suffer...

Apple recycles ipods. If you bring in an ipod for recycle, then you can get a 10% discount.

The Touch is functionally a small iPad.

That's true ONLY if you limit yourself to iTMS purchases.  iCloud does not store photos or anything else that the device owner created.

  • HT1320 Could I trade in my old ipod nano for a new one or something?

My ipod nano is from 2009. The hold button doesn't work anymore; The battery doesn't last me as long as it used to and it keeps crashing.

Try trading in your iPod Nano with a company like http://NextWorth.com They'll give you cash for your old device (even if all the buttons aren't working). Then you can use that money to offset the cost for a new iPod.

  • How to restore the items lost before i backed up my ipod

Well I traded in my IPod after I cracked but before I did I backed it up so all of my items wouldn't be gone. I could not restore my new IPod right away so I waited a week. In that week I accumulated a lot of pictures and notes. Yesterday I decided to finally restore my IPod. When I did I found that all of the pictures and notes I had saved in that week when I had just gotten my IPod had been deleted and replace with all of my old data. I was wondering if there was anyway to restore those pictures I had saved during that short period of time. Thank you and have a wonderful day

If you did not backup during that time then the data is gone. You may be able to get your phtos taken by or saved to the iPod backup by getting them from your PhotoStream. For how see the PhtosStream topic of:

  • Could i trade in u2 ipod for a new 30 gb video ipod?

could i do this online or at a local apple store(one is near where i live), or do i have to still pay money bc i know apple has a history of trading in old ipods for new ones

Apple don't offer this kind of trade in. They have a recycling program in place that gets you 10% off the price of a new iPod if you hand in your old one at the time of purchase. You can do this (I believe) at any Apple store.
However, you may think that your iPod is worth more than 10% off the cost of a new one, and perhaps want to sell it on eBay instead.
There are sites such as Small Dog Electronics that do have a trade in policy for iPods.

  • IPOD TV SHOWS TO DOWNLOAD

I REALLY WANTED TO APPLE TO PICK UP TRADING SPOUSES FOR IPOD DOWNLOAD, WHO DO YOU CONTACT TO TRY TO GET THIS DONE?

Can't say I share your wish, but if you want to let the iTMS people know about it, maybe you could post here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html Technically, that link is just for suggesting music that the iTMS should try to get, but you could probably suggest a TV show in the comments section. (I couldn't find a similar link dedicated to video.)
Good luck. (And STOP SCREAMING! ;-)) (Please don't use ALL CAPS when posting.)

  • IPOD SERVICE FAILED TO START

I am honestly at my last nerve with Apple. What company makes you pay for live chat support? I'm a short step away for trading in my IPod and buying a Zune.
Every time I try to install iTunes, an error message pops up saying "Service iPod service failed to start, make sure you have admin privileges." I originally had to re-install iTunes, because every time I'd sync my iPod, it would give me the SAME MESSAGE.
I've gone through the threads that have people that have the same problem, no other method works and I'm **** sure not about to re install my entire PC. DOES anyone HAVE AN ANSWER? Customer service has failed me, something Apple PRIDES itself on, now I'd love it and appreciate it if someone could just HELP ME.

    I had the same problem.
Then I tried to start the ipodservice.exe (which is in the c:\progam files\ipod\bin folder) directly with a double click. The system told me, that the user32.dll has moved in memory and that i need a newer one.
I looked at the version of user32.dll and it was 5.1.2600.2180.
Fortunately i had 2 other PC with Windows XP, and on one of them there was a newer version of user32.dll: 5.1.2600.3099.
So - i renamed the old user32.dll to user32.old (which is in the windows\system32 folder), and copied the newer user32.dll.
Then i restartet windows, installed iTunes and.... it worked!!!!
I hope this will help you!

  • Album Shuffle on iPod Touch

I have been a dedicated user of the iPod Classic.  One of my favourite features is the album shuffle.  I just load up the iPod and let it go.
I recently upgraded my sound dock which has bluetooth.  So, I traded in my iPod Classic for an iPod Touch, a lot less memory but with bluetooth.  I have been trying to get it to do the album shuffle but it appears that this feature is no longer available.  Any suggestions?

  • Accidentally dropped my iPod Touch 2G in a puddle.

So today I was listening to music on my iPod Touch 2G when I accidentally was nudged by a person and that made me drop my iPod. It fell into a muddy puddle and now it no longer functions. I remember my music teacher saying that she traded her old iPod Touch because it wasn't functioning for a 5th gen one for $50. She said the person that serviced her didn't even ask her what was the problem and just immediately traded the old iPod as they no longer provided service for it. Would I be able to do the same thing and if not, how do I get my old iPod fixed?

  • My "tilt" on my iPod touch will not work.

I've tried to reset my settings several different times and it still isn't helping. I'm obsessed with Temple Run and it annoys me that I can't play it. It also does the same thing for Rollercoaster and Waterslide. Everyone says to take it apart and fix the accelerometer, but I really don't want to do that. If anyone knows how to fix the problem with a different way, please let me know. I'm thinking about just trading in my iPod.

Have you checked to see if you have the rotation lock turned on? If on there is a circular arrow with a padlock inside next to the battery icon in the upper right.
You can try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
If you still have the problem then it is time for an appointment at the Genisu Bar of an Apple store.

  • Previous Apps from Old Ipod wont download on New ipod, says "unavailable"

traded in my ipod touch 4th gen for a new one because the screen was going crazy, but now all the apps i had on my last wont download on my new ipod, basic apps such as facebook, tumblr, ibooks, and games i had, its says "the item you tried to buy is no longer available". But when i download an app i didnt have on my previous ipod it does download. HELP???

Just purchased 2 new iPod touches, thought this was related to setting up 2 accounts for my daughters. However, one works just fine, the other is having the same "unavailable" problem. Guess which is having the problem... the one for which I installed the new update. Now what? Should I call tech support, or can I delete the update somehow?
