Traditional Chinese Support (International Keyboard Setting)?

Greetings people, does anyone know whether Traditional Chinese input is supported on iPad? I was able to enable Simplified Chinese from Keyboard's International setting for both Pinyin and Handwriting but couldn't find Traditional Chinese anywhere. Any thoughts on that please? Thanks in advance.

Greetings people, does anyone know whether Traditional Chinese input is supported on iPad?
No, it is not yet supported. That can be seen in the tech specs which were published Jan. 27.
http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/
Traditional Chinese is among more than 2 dozen languages which are supported by the iPhone but not yet by the iPad. Presumably it will be added via future software updates, but nobody can tell you when that will happen and Apple never provides advance info on such improvements.

  • No Traditional Chinese Support?

Why i-Pad doesn't support Traditional Chinese like iPhone does? Since they're using the same OS, it shouldn't be a problem. There're several places and countries still using Traditional Chinese like Taiwan, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia and lots of overseas Chinese communities. Most of the signs you can see around the Chinatowns all over the world are using Traditional Chinese. I don't see any reason why Apple want to ban Traditional Chinese. Is it another work by Chinese government? I hope Apple will include it when next OS is available.

Not including a language does not equate to "banning" it.

The Chinese government cannot be involved since Apple hasn't released the iPad in any of those places yet. Perhaps when the iPad is released there, it will have support for Traditional Chinese. You can express your interest in that feature here:

  • International keyboard set - flag set - Cannot use font in app

I've gotten the international keyboard selected and chosen the correct flag. I've looked at the Thai fonts via Font Book, they are all present... However, when I attempt to type text in TextEdit or Mail, the font used remains Roman.

Have you activated Keyboard Viewer? You do that just
like a keyboard layout. If you select Keyboard
Viewer from the flag menu, and set the flag menu to
Thai, do Thai characters appear on the Viewer? Does
typing in Keyboard Viewer with the mouse produce Thai
    or Roman in TextEdit?
Also if you go to Character Palette, Thai range, and
double click (or use insert button at bottom right),
does it enter Thai into TextEdit?
Keyboard Viewer - does not show any Thai
With a TextEdit doc open, using the Character Palette, does produce Thai text when using the insert button...

  • How can I turn off other languages on my ipad running ios7?  It has Japanese or Chinese and the international keyboard is set to English.  Thank you.

How can I turn off other languages on my ipad the next generation running ios7?  I have the international language set to English but it's showing a foreign language and sometimes it shows the foreign language with English.  Thank you.

The complete backup and restore procedure is explained in the link above.
If you don't want to do a restore, then your iPad may remain in the unstable state you have for the moment.
You can change the country in the App Store. Have a look at the bottom of the App Store screen, you can change the country and also do the permanent change via Manage > Account.
You can change the language in iTunes via General Preferences > under General tab.

  • No keyboard for traditional Chinese?

How do I type traditional Chinese in iPad? I would hate to see that there's no traditional Chinese input method in iPad.

You can handwrite the Chinese characters directly into the keypad. You can choose traditional Chinese or simplified Chinese too. Click the "globe" icon in the keyboard to switch to different character sets.
You have to set up the international character set first in the "Settings" app. Then click "General" > "International" > "keyboards" >"Add new keyboards" > "Traditional Chinese" or "Simplified Chinese"
Once you set this up, you can use the Chinese keyboard by clicking the "globe" icon in the input keyboard. You can cycle through the keyboard character set back in to English by clicking the "globe" again.
The handwriting input method is cool. You don't have to use other translation methods. It does a fairly good job to do the character recognition, but if you use traditional Chinese, it is not that smart to figure out the complex characters.

  • Traditional chinese language support for pearl flip 8220?

I just got a pearl flip from T-Mobile.  I'm happy with most features, however, there is no Chinese language support whatsoever.  All the Chinese characters show up as black boxes.  Anyone know of any fixes so that I can read and input Chinese (traditional Chinese)?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Your device OS does not support chinese symbols.
Ask your wireless provider for a multi-language device OS that supports chinese characters.
Otherwise - check a chinese wireless provider for device OS. But note that your wireless provider disfavor use of device os from another wireless providers.
If you decide to use OS from another wireless provider - use OS exactly for your device model.
Install OS package on your desktop computer. After that delete Vendor.xml file from installed files on your desktop PC.
Connect your device to the computer and update device OS via Blackberry Desktop Manager/Application Loader.

  • TS1258 Is there a way to re-set the monitor with an external keyboard, since my internal keyboard is not working?

My internal keyboard and mouse have stopped working, so I have attached an external keyboard and mouse. But now I need to re-set the monitor. Can I do it with an external keyboard?
I have the dark bands at the bottom of the internal display.

You cant switch off the power to the monitor but you can send it to sleep.
1 - Apple > System preferences > energy saver: set the monitor to sleep at the shortest duration
2 - While the second display is connected and powered on,  System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement:  deselect the Mirror Displays option
While the presentation plays on the secondary display, the Mac display will go to sleep as there is nothing on the screen during play, entering display sleep within seconds.

  • UTF8 and Traditional chinese display problem

I have having problems displaying chinese because I am trying to pull data from 2 difference sources into a 3rd source.
    Question 1
I am using Oracle 8.17 on Sun Solaris - (in China).
The NLS_LANG on that machine (Machine name is CNCIM) is American. The NLS_CHARACTERSET is ZHS16GBK.
We are using Java to write data into this server. The data has been stored as UTF8.
When I use TOAD, to look at the chinese characters, I cannot see the actual characters.
What I see in TOAD is something like this
    上海市山东中路145号
Convert function does not seem to work. Can someone advice me how I can see the raw data in chinese?
    Question 2
Currently, I am also trying to import the above UTF8 data into my Local Oracle Machine (APDM)
The NLS_LANG on that machine is American. The NLS_CHARACTERSET is WE8ISO8859P1.
And at the sametime, I am trying to import information from SQL2000 into Local Oracle Machine (APDM).
I was told that the data in SQL2000 has been setup as tradtional Chinese.
What type of settings should I have on my local machine(APDM) to allow me to view Chinese data (From CNCIM - UTF8) and to see the SQL2000(traditional chinese) data at the same time? Should this settings
be configured for my client too?

My hunch is that Toad either does not support the display of Chinese characters, at least not without setting your Windows regional settings to Chinese. Can you retrieve the data via your Java application?
If your database character set is ZHS16GBK, that should be the character set that the data is stored in the database. If your Java application is sending over UTF-8 encoded data, you need to ensure that the NLS_LANG settings on the client machine identify the data as UTF-8 so that Oracle can do the necessary character set conversion.
If your local database is using the ISO 8859-1 character set, it cannot store Chinese data. You would need to create a new database with a character set that supports Chinese if you wanted to store Chinese data there.

  • What NLS_LANG can handles both Simplified and Traditional Chinese?

    Hi,
What values should I put into the NLS_LANG for my 10g db in order to handle English, Traditional and Simplified Chinese?
Can I specify the date format during the db creation?
    Thanks

You can try to create a database with database character set AL32UTF8. Then configure the NLS_LANG in client using the same character set. After that, try to input both simplified chinese and traditional chinese into one character column. See what is the results. I guess in AL32UTF8, same character has different encodings for simplified chinese and traditional chinese since they are written different ways.
For date format, I don't think you need to take care the database date format. Internally, Oracle keep date values using numeric type. When I handle date values, I retrieve it using to_char(datavalule, 'yyyy-mm-dd') and update it back using to_date('2006-01-01', 'yyyy-mm-dd') ('2006-01-01' is just an example).

  • Chinese component needed to be install for big 5 traditional Chinese

I have a solaris 8 machine. I would like to support big5 traditional chinese (zh_TW). What would be the component I needed to install? Please advise

    I'm having a similar problem.
In my Entourage -> Preference -> Read, I set "Big5" as the default encoding for unread msg. However, whenever I open an msg, always I have to manually select "Format -> Char set-> Big5" to have the msg displayed correctly. When I move to the next msg, the char set will go back to "automatically" instead of the char set I just selected.
Very annoying, does anyone has a permanent solution for this? Appreciate it!
