Training advice

Hi,
I am interested in expanding my skill sets in the area of SAP.
I understand there is a functional and development side. From my experience I feel that I am most suited both (for the development side) and seem to be leaning towards XI or BI areas.
What I am not sure is, that for me with skills in Oracle and .Net, which SAP modules are ideal regarding the entry into Job market as beginner. Is that BI or XI easy to get into from jobs perspective?
Could someone please advice on this. I am really interested to change my career to SAP but not sure where to start.
Any input is highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Hari.

Hi Saihari, XI and BI are the old name and new name of the SAP BusinessObjects portfolio. It contains a wide range of presentation layer tools and administration tools. Since you know Oracle and you are interested in development, your best fit, in my humble opinion, is report developer position.
With that being said, the job market is still rather tight due to the sluggish economy. Employers are seeking people with years of working experience. Almost nobody is hiring entry level position.
Your best route is to find out if your existing employer has such tool or not. If they do, try to get yourself into a project where you can use the SAP BusinessObjects tool. This is the best way to gain working experience.
Hope this helps.

  • Work and training advice

First of all i hope this post is acceptable in this General forum, I could not find work/training advice thread.
Last year i started working for an Automotive company who were changing there PLM systems and integrating SAP
First of all i started working integrating and changing all of the company part numbers, updating drawings and getting supplier agreements and sign offs.
The next part of the project i became lead co-ordinator, having no previous knowledge of the company systems including SAP. I processed over 180,000 parts working these changes throughout the whole company, liasing with department heads and pushing through these changes and then cleaning errors and order testing and ensuring staff were trained as i went through every department right up to go ive and completion i became the focus for this implementation.
The project was a resounding success, on time and on budget and was very very enjoyable, I think i used just about every module an Automotive company would ever need along with a steep learning curve with both sap and how this business operates a vast amount of knowledge was absorbed, used and distributed in a short period of time. Taking the company and changing everything, basically making the company start from scratch made this project very exciting.
I would love to do this again, or get involved in a similar project, and feel i need to get certified, or do i? this project involved
no scripting, no programming, no installations - just learning SAP and other systems and ploughing through and changing
    everything.
What sort of role should i be looking for, and what sort of training/certification would benefit the progression of my career
any help would be appreciated, along with contact information for training/work in the midlands area (UK)

This is the right place, but don't be surprised if you get some frivolous comments.  Have you looked at [courses |http://www.sap.com/uk/services/education/index.epx]SAP provide?
I worked on the Automotive solution (programming it I mean) in Leamington Spa; but that was back in 2005.

  • Training Advice from SDN folks ...

    Hi Guys,
It’s really nice sharing and helping everybody here on SDN. Right now I’m on cross roads; I want to decide something about my career. I wanted to take suggestion from SDN folks. I have around 6+ years of experience in ABAP and I almost work for every core module of SAP (E.g. SD, MM, PP, FI/CO, and HR). Since one year I’m working as HR-ABAP programmer/HR Security/SAP BASIS performance tuning etc. I’m about to take HR configuration training.
I’m also thinking of taking training of SAP CRM and SAP Netweaver; some where end of this year. I’m not good in JAVA/ABAP Objects, is it a good idea to take training in Netweaver? Am I going on right track?  It’s also about making big bucks
Let me know what you suggest?
    Thanks a lot,
    Saquib Khan

I’m planning to take SAP Netweaver first. I have couple of questions.
    - What kind of knowledge one has in order to attend Netweaver course.
-Java is prerequisite in order to do Netweaver?
-ABAP objects are prerequisite in order to do Netweaver?
As I am in HR ABAP. How can I make Netweaver beneficial for HR after learning it . What is the scope of HR in Netweaver, how they are tied together?
    Thanks
    Saquib

  • 70-410 Training Advice

    Hi
Is there anywhere where I can get some practice questions for the above exam?
I have seen various places online but they are all quite expensive?
What I am looking for is something like a GCSE paper where you have the questions and then the answers on another sheet.
All the ones I have found have the answers below the questions which to me seems pointless.
I am training a couple of people and want to test them on a weekly basis to see how they are getting on.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Aaron

You won't find anything like GCSE papers.  All you'll find are those offered by
    Kaplan SelfTest, MeasureUp or

  • How to review training videos?

    Hello,
I'm reviewing a coworker's training videos and am new to this.  What criteria should I use in reviewing a demonstration-based training video?
I think in order to provide  effective feedback, I need a list of elements that make good training videos.    Would anyone know a website or book that explains what makes a good training  video GREAT?
Also, is there a section on this site that can provide feedback on training  videos?
    Thanks!

    Hi there,
It might help if we knew what the subject of your co-workers training videos is. I'm guessing from what you've said that you're talking about a video training course where the presenter narrates a screencast (a recording of their screen), to explain the software. Correct me if I'm wrong about that.
I've been looking at video training courses for Photoshop Elements and Photoshop for three or four years now - I even produced one a few years back - so I know what it's like from both the student and the teacher's point of view. In four years, this is the best Photoshop Elements video training course I've seen by far.
You asked what criteria you should use in reviewing - here are some of the guidelines I lay down on that page:
    1) A great training course has to use screencast video - You could follow a text guide, but why not just go and buy a manual or an 'X for dummies' guide if you're going to do that - video is the best way to illustrate and communicate training advice for products as complicated as Adobe Photoshop.
    2) A great training course should cover all angles - This is a balance. The training course must be complete without being comprehensive. It should be complete, so that no major section of the product is missed out - there's nothing more frustrating than finding out at the end that the trainer isn't going to address what you're interested in. But the training almost certainly shouldn't be comprehensive. Taking Photoshop Elements as an example, if the trainer explicitly mentions every single mode that every single tool can be used in, every keyboard shortcut, every menu item, every dialog ... you get the point ... the training will end up causing A) information overload, and B) boredom! The training should provide good coverage of the program (good breadth), with an appropriate level of detail (fair depth).
    3) In the same vein, some of the Photoshop Elements training I've watched has been agonizingly boring! The training should be broken down into sections of a sensible size, and each one should leave you begging for more. The training should be fun! And the trainer should communicate in a way that makes the training easily understandable - people will benefit from and enjoy the training a lot more if the instructions and descriptions are clear and easy to follow.
    4) As in any presentation, think about the target audience. Is it meant to be an 'absolute beginners Photoshop Elements training course', or should the title be 'Advanced Photoshop Elements training for guru-grand-masters'? Is it just for those using Windows, or just for those using Mac? Try to review the training with a target audience in mind, so you can assess whether it meets their needs. Like me, you might even want to buy or sample other video training courses to see how they compare.
    5) Finally, good training doesn't always have to be free, but it shouldn't cost the earth either. The Photoshop Elements training I review here costs $49.95. That's a reasonable price for what is a really excellent training resource. But asking someone to pay hundreds and hundreds of dollars for training is rarely appropriate, perhaps with the exception of a face-to-face training course. Make great content, and then over-deliver on all your promises to the consumer, at a price that they simply can't get over - then let them rave about it to all their friends. =)
One more good tip: I mentioned training books above - visit your local bookshop or library and grab a training book on the product (so for example I might do an Amazon search for 'PSE8 for dummies', see what's about, then pop to Waterstones to flick through a copy) - see what topics THEY cover. See the level of detail they give. If you had to honestly recommend a product to someone, would it be the book or the training course? It's a nice easy metric to judge how valuable the training really is.
You asked about a section on the site where people can provide feedback on training videos - I actually have a section for that on my site. You can post and discuss Photoshop Elements training reviews here, and Photoshop training reviews here. I'd love to hear about any resources that you think are worth mentioning.
I hope that helps. All the best, Rob.
PS. Just a tip: In general, don't cross-post the same question over several different forum areas. =)

  • Looking for some advice from experienced users regarding training courses

I know I need a good, basic Illustrator training course to do what I want with the software. I found this one and was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to advise if it looks adequate to teach me the basics of Illustrator.
    Here is the couse:
    http://matygo.com/class/195-adobe-illustrator
    Here is the syllabus:
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/47570858/IllustratorClass2.pdf
Or should I subscribe to the Lynda.com tutorials? http://www.lynda.com/Illustrator-CS5-tutorials/one-on-one-fundamentals/61020-2.html
Is the 30 day course at Vector Diary similar? http://www.vectordiary.com/illustrator/illustrator-training-course/http://
Thanks for any advice you can offer.
    Mary

    The likely culprit:
The problem is likely due to the discreet GPU failing. Download gfxCardStatus 2.3 and use it to disable the GPU. This is a temporary workaround until you get your motherboard replaced.
Possible other causes are the software that installed these:
    com.splashtop.driver.SRXFrameBufferConnector          1.5
    com.avatron.AVExFramebuffer          1.7
    com.splashtop.driver.SRXDisplayCard          1.5
    com.avatron.AVExVideo          1.7
Now they may be causing panics because the try to use acceleration in the GPU which leads to the panics. You are unlucky to have a particular model that has a real problem with this.

  • Enduser - Now on project - would like to train to be a consultant- advice?

    Hi,
I have worked with SAP as an end user within a MFG envrionment and am now on a SAP project with my company. I am not involved in any config stuff... that is all done offshore.
I would like to be able to develop my skills and eventually be able to work as an SAP consultant. The area I am interested in is SCM - Manufacturing (Planning & MFG).
Are there effective training courses, which on successful completion would provide me with the skills required to work as a consultant?
The SAP (UK) Education courses seem very expensive..... are they the best option?
    Thanks,

    Hi Gavin,
In my personal opinion, which means you can disagree, the best option is 'experience', which is the best of all tutors. You have some already and you just have to be determined to learn and offer yourself to do the configuration stuff if your project needs one.  Shadow someone on the team who knows it and learn it.
Here's a two edged sword for you if you really want to be a top notch consultant:  Just because one finishes a course does not make him/her a good consultant.  At the same time, really serious and good consultants are willing to further themselves through education or self-learning no matter the price.
    The next step is yours.
    I hope that helps!
    John Ta
p.s. Want a free advice?  Go to the SCM help documentation and familiarize yourself with it as it is a free resource.  I know bad consultants when they ask questions (e.g. on SDN or emails) before they do any homework on their own.  They prove their laziness by not demonstrating what they've tried first.  Urgent!!! I need the answer now!  Of course, you won't be one of those.

Question : Post MBA , I want to get back in SAP field with more functional/technical roles , however I am confused with Module selection. For functional ones, I don't have any background . Few of my friends suggested to learn SAP Solution Manager , however I am confused with it's scope. Please advice the module which will be better to take ahead as per my profile.

Honestly there is no answer for that until you do it. A mov will work perfectly fine. But there are variables: The quality and sharpness of the original photos. How they survive being compressed to a mov, how that mov survives being compressed to DVD format. The quality of the DVD player (and no, they are not all the same) and finally the crispness of the screen. If all goes well, yes it will look perfectly good. But you're not going to know until you do it.

  • Need some advice on MCSA training

I wanted to work on getting my MCSA in Windows Server, but I wasn't sure if it made sense to get the 2008, then upgrade to 2012, or at this point just go straight to the 2012.  Honestly, I think I'd prefer to just move on to 2012, but I didn't know
if having both would really increase my value?
From that decision, I need to decide on a training resource.  I'm hoping to get my employer to pay for either CBT Nuggets, or Pluralsight. Obviously b/c of price Pluralsight is more attractive, but I like the idea that CBT Nuggets offers virtual labs. Are
they worth the extra premium in price? I do have a pretty beefy work laptop with 16GB of memory, so I could probably setup the necessary labs myself if I went the Pluralsight route.  I might supplement with the Press Books as well, but is one video site
better than the other for MCSA training?

    Hi, stigs007.
    Here's my opinion.
Just go for the MCSA Windows Server 2012 certification. With just three exams, you will have the latest server certification completed and then you can focus on other things. AS well, you will be only two exams away from MCSE, if you wish to pursue it.
The Server 2008 exams are based on a product that is six (6) years old - well, six years old according to the year attached to them. They are actually based on the R2 edition of Server 2008. Nonetheless, where will you be with a Server 2008 certification
two years from now? How much will it mean to your boss or a potential hiring manager to see on your transcript that you are certified in something eight (8) years old? (that's what they will think....
As you may noticed by the sticky at the top of the forum, the Server 2012 exams are being updated on January 28th to Server 2012 R2. This also includes upgrade exams. Note that some book publishers will be releasing updated study guides February, March
and April. Here are the books being released by MSPress:
    http://search.oreilly.com/?q=exam+2012+r2&x=0&y=0
Please be aware that most training materials have not yet been updated to Windows Server 2012 R2 yet. They are based on Server 2012 RTM. That includes most books, videos, and practice exams. I suspect that this spring there will be more offerings.
    Good luck!
    Best wishes, Davin Mickelson
I definitely understand the point you're making, but I know of places still utilizing Server 2003 to some degree, so it wouldn't surprise me a few years from to still see Server 2008 out there.  I guess in both cases I end up with a MCSA 2012, which is
my main goal, but I have to decide which makes the most sense for me.  I appreciate the input though, and thank you for the link, I have been curious when new material was going to come out.

  • Seeking Advice on Adobe Training Partners

I had this posted somewhere else, but was told this would be a better place for it......
I'm fairly new to using the Technical Communications Suite and am considering taking some classes for FrameMaker 8 and RoboHelp 7. The companies that I'm considering are: Lodestone Digital and Sterling Ledet & Assocaies.
I've tried some of the online tutorials, but they're not helping as much as I'd like.
I'm hoping that at least a few of you may have knowledge of either and/or both of these companies and wouldn't mind sharing your opinion. If there's a better company please let me know (however I'm in Virginia and would prefer not to travel too far.)
Thanks for any and all help.
    Belynda

    Belynda,
Both are very good sources for training. There are quite a number of
others and some do offer on-line training sessions with an instructor
(rather than just self-paced tutorials,) which could make your travel
budget available for more courses instead.
    For example,
    http://www.microtype.com/training.html
    http://www.iconlogic.com/FrameMaker8VirtualClass.html
    http://www.scriptorium.com/training/options.html or
    http://www.scriptorium.com/training/schedule.html
There's also the option of having the instructors come to your site
for customized training, which might be more focused and effective. In
this case, additional options would include companies such as
Front-Runner Training, Publishing Smarter, KnowHow Pro, and Grafix
    Training.

  • Looking for advice on training manual color theme

I am putting together a company training manual with (9) different topics and I would like to use a unique color for each. The colors will be used for Page Numbers, Section Titles and Section Subheads using the font family Myriad Pro.
I can of course just start experimenting but thought that maybe someone hear might be able to suggest an option or two. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Tom,
You could investigate the Kuler plugin (bundled with Indesign) - this lets you select grouped colour themes which you can import to your swatches palette.

  • Advice Needed for Training

    Hello Everyone:
I searched the web site and couldn't find a good answer for my question.  I am about to restart the web site design component of my marketing and public relations business after a unexpected two year break.  I am in need of some train for CS6 to get me up to speed on all the new features.  I have been using CS4 but would really like to get a good training CS6 so I can use the different programs and features with extreme ease. I am a paraplegic and getting to the Bay Area or a community college for training classes would be difficult right now.  I searching for comprehensive on training for the CS6 programs and features and I need to get started ASAP.  Does anyone know if this exists? Can it be gotten through Adobe? What the good CS6 training books? I know there are several but I'm not sure which book(s) to pick.
    Thank you for your assistance,
    Heidi

For self-study resources, I'd suggest Lynda.com and Adobe.tv but in general, I'd suggest focussing on one application at a time as opposed to trying to tackle the whole suite at once. If it were me, I'd get started with InDesign. My company does offer online instructor-led training classes, but it's fairly pricey and is typically the sort of thing that employer's pay for. The biggest tip I can give though, whether self-study or instructor-led is to start with a calendar and a plan, and take a step by step approach. Get good enough in one application that you can produce quality work in it, then move on to the next application. Trying to learn the whole Creative Suite at once is an awfully big elephant to eat. Good luck. - Sterling

  • Training and Event Management Data Load

    Hello Team
Would appreciate if any of you can advice on how to load Training and Event management data. I think its stored in HRP tables.
I'm working on an upgrade assignment.
    Thanks

    Hi,
TEM data is stored in HRP tables.
You can load the catalog by creating LSMWs for objects Business event group (L), Business event types (D), Locations (F), Organizers (U) as per requirement.
LSMW for tcode PP01 can be used to create these objects.
To create Business Events (E) you can create LSMW for PV10/PV11.
To book attendee create LSMW for tcode PV08 as here you can specify the actual business event ID which reduces ambiguity.
tcode PV12 to firmly book events
    tcode PV15 to follow up
    Hope this helps.
