Training for Life Sciences Platform

Hi Everyone -
I'm just looking for the final piece of the puzzle here, so please correct me if I've missed the obvious.
I'm a DBA and my company is seriously considering implementing a Life Sciences Platform. Upon investigating what this actually means, I discovered that it is just a combination of various Oracle products pieced together to form whatever setup/environment is needed.
Is there or are there plans to have a Life Sciences training course, where the features that could potentially constitute a LS Platform are explained in more detail and an explaination of how to piece together all these features is laid out like it would be for any other product? I'd like to learn about how these features are actually used in a LS Platform as opposed to having to take 5 or 6 separate courses for each feature and trial/error how they all fit together. Does anyone know of any training available for planning, installing, and managing all the features of a LS Platform? I'm not interested in developing an application that does all the science stuff, just doing the DBA part of it all.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Andy

We are planning on making the new OU course available for viewing to attendees of the Feb. 5th Oracle Life Sciences User Group Meeting in London. Here is the link for the OLSUGM

  • Information on Oracle's Life Sciences Platform

    Hi all,
Oracle ST Development (Database, Application Server and Collaboration Suite) has identified many features that are uniquely appreciated by scientists, biologists, IT personnel, etc. in life sciences. More information on Oracle's Platform for Life Sciences including Tech eSeminars, white papers and some example code is available at http://otn.oracle.com/industries/life_sciences/content.html

  • OpenSource code for accessing Life Science data sources?

We know that many people use Oracle in Life Sciences. Per IDC, Oracle has a 75-80% market share in "Discovery". Oracle would like to help facilitate the exchange of customer code for accessing LS data e.g from GenBank, SwissProt, etc., but Oracle Legal concerns prevent us from posting customer's code on our web site.
Does anyone have any LS code that is based on Oracle that they are willing to share with others on say SourceForge.net? Is there any location where people are already posting this type of Oracle-based open source code?

Please go to SourceForge.net at http://sourceforge.net/projects/oraclelifesci/. Subscribe the mailing list or join the project development. To contribute codes you can chose one of the following:
    1. If you would like to use CVS or you need shared development by others, you can use cvs in sourceForge.net to upload your code.
    2. email your code to [email protected]
You may also use other facilities that sourceForge has. It only take a couple hours in the beginning to known SourceForge.net.
We welcome codes in all programming langages (Java, Perl, PL/SQL, C, etc) for life science applications on Oracle Platform. Thank you.

  • Oracle Life science Data Hub integrated with OBIEE 11g

    Hi all,
I have couple of questions from my end,
         1. How Oracle Life Science Data Hub can be  Integrated with OBIEE 11g.
         2. Whether Oracle LSH is a separate software ?  if it so kindly provide the link to download the LSH.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Murali

    Hi Murali,
I do not know whether obiee can use Oracle LSH as a source or not but please refer below link. It says that
    1) Users can then launch the Oracle Business Intelligence Dashboard
either through Oracle LSH or through a URL to see data visualizations.
    2)
Oracle LSH Release 2.2 supports using OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1 for both programs and
visualizations and OBIEE 11.1.1.5.0 for visualizations only.
    Please check with you administrator.

  • Training for BPC

    Hello Fellows,
I am a sales consultant positioning BPC at many places, furthermore, I am also planning to get training for BPC. I am pretty confused at the moment with the following queries in mind:
Is BPC a technical (programming type) side of SAP?
Does one have to have a strong technical background?
To what extent does BPC differ from BOBJ?
What would be a more reliable side of choice, BPC or BOBJ?
I would be heartily grateful if someone could come out of the shadow and shed some light on the aforementioned queries. Furthermore, it would be really helpful if someone could share few brochures about BPC.

    Hi Nauman,
BPC it's a sw normally used for consolidation, planning, budgeting and cost allocation.
First of all there are 2 different versions, MS based on MS SQL server (i.e. also stored procedures, dtsx packages etc.) and NW integrated in Netweaver platform (connected with BW) without stor. proc. dtsx, but with badi functions.
Is BPC a technical (programming type) side of SAP?
yes you have funtions, components, etc to connect your excel report or input schedules with a database and also logic script, MDX, badi, etc.
Does one have to have a strong technical background?
if you want to build a new project then yes, if you want only create or change some reports then no.
To what extent does BPC differ from BOBJ?
sorry I don't know BO but as I know this is just useful for reports probably powerful then bpc so if you want you can integrate it when you create some special reports.
What would be a more reliable side of choice, BPC or BOBJ?
probably if you work with BPC could be better to study it but it's more difficult then BOBJ, you need more time to know it.
I would be heartily grateful if someone could come out of the shadow and shed some light on the aforementioned queries. Furthermore, it would be really helpful if someone could share few brochures about BPC.
first of all if you decide to study BPC you can see the modules you need for a SAP certification

  • How to install HCM 9.2 demo database for non oracle platform

i am new  to peoplesoft. We are planning for an upgrade to hcm 9.2 and peopletools 8.53. We are currently on 9.0 and peopletools 8.51 and SQL platform.
i understand we have to creat a demo the old fashion way for SQL. I cannot find any required at upgrade and required at install fixes. Can someone please go over the process really quickly in brief and where I can find them. The upgrade home page does not talk anything about non oracle based platforms.
We are preparing to install tools. What will be the next step after installing tools?
I  have signed up with oracle university for training but that is not taking place for another 4 weeks.
    Confused Oracle user,

Hi , you don't need to be confused as installing Oracle PeopleSoft is not hard as many would think. Most of the steps are clearly documented and with proper resources can be learnt very easily.
Here is an overview of steps that you would need to follow
    Install Tools
    Install Application CD
    Create Database
Edit and Run Database Scripts e.g utlspace, hcddl, psroles, psadmin, connect.. etc.
Copy Projects (PPLTLS84CUR, ..) , Run AE programs, Execute dms scripts etc.
Pretty much follow the database creation steps from Install guide for your database platform. Here is the link for SQL server installation guide
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E38921_01/psft/acrobat/PeopleTools_8.53%20_Installation_for_Microsoft_SQL_Server.pdf
    Install Tuxedo, WebLogic
Create App Server, Web Server, Process Scheduler
Once your envrionment is ready, you need to plan for your upgrade.
Required at upgrade and Required at install fixes are available inside the PUM images now, so you need to deploy PeopleSoft Virtual Images too.
    Upgrade Tasks:
Review your upgrade path, check hardware/software support, download upgrade templates for your upgrade path,
Follow Upgrade Guide for detailed step by step process for initial pass.
here is a brief overview of installation process - PeopleTools 8.53: Steps For Installing PeopleSoft HCM 9.2 on Windows 7

  • Life Sciences, what is actually offered?

    Hi there,
When we browse around the SAP sites (SDN, Support portal, BPX, etc) aiming at having some straight message about what is Life Science, nothing is clearly stated.
Could anyone state exactly what is included in this so-called industry package "Life Sciences"? new functionalities? which?
What is then the difference between paying for the "life sciences" or not paying for it?
Please, don't forward me to an SAP link because it's likely to be useless.
    THANKS! <REMOVED BY MODERATOR>
