Training & Help Books for RoboHelp HTML 10?
Hi all -- I'm currently in my trial of RoboHelp HTML 10, and I'm having a hard time locating training webinars and/or books. I've gone through lynda.com training and I'm aware of Adobe's videos and documentation, but I'm wondering if there are any help/guide books currently or forthcoming that anyone may know of. Thanks!
RoboHelp 10 is still fairly new so there aren't a lot of books / guides out there. IconLogic has one that I know of though. It can be found at:

Help required with robohelp html
We have recently upgraded to Robohelp version 6, using
robohelp html.
When attempting to load a Robohelp .MPJ project from from an
earlier version of Robohelp (Robohelp 2002), the program simply
'hangs' and the project fails to load.
There are no error messages.
This is a critical application and we need to be able to load
and save the project.
Can anyone offer any help?
Many ThanksIf you have tables with merged cells, check Peter's solution

Training Video/Book for Color?
Hi there --
I am looking for a training video or book so I can learn how to use Color. Any suggestions?
Thanks! For strictly just learning the Color interface I strong suggest http://store.creativecow.net/p/66/stopstaring_and_start_grading_with_applecolor. There's nothing in it about actual grading or color theory or anything like that, but after watching this DVD I went from knowing zip to understanding what each and every button in Color does. It's a very good, very in depth guide to Color's settings and UI.

Need product key number for installed Robohelp HTML
Hello,
Can anyone tell me how to determine which product key number
for Robohelp HTML X5 is used on a particular machine?
We have two X5 licenses here, but I only want to upgrade one
license on one machine. I do not know which product key number was
used to install X5 on either machine.
I'd like to maintain older projects using X5 and upgrade one
license to develop new projects using Robohelp 8.
From what I understand--and PLEASE correct me if I am
wrong--I can run both versions on the same machine as long as I
install in different folders.
DebI don't think there is any way of telling but suggest you
phone the activation people. If anyone knows, they should.
http://www.adobe.com/activation/phonenumbers.html
You can install RH7 on a machine with X5 but you will have
issues if you need to use RoboHelp for Word in X5. Importing Word
docs and printed documentation will still be OK. -
Why Pick RoboHelp for Word vs RoboHelp HTML?
Getting started with RoboHelp. Everyone in our office knows
how to write in Word. Are there big advantages or disadvantages to
choosing to use RH Word vs RH HTML to work in? I want to avoid
kicking myself two months down the road.Welcome to our community, WJohanRadGuy
I suppose I would counter that with:
Why drive a truck when you can drive a car?
Here's what I mean. Think of the output you are planning on
creating. Most of the output today falls into the HTML category.
Assuming that's the case for you, you would be well advised to use
a tool designed for working with HTML. So just as I wouldn't use my
car to haul plywood when a truck is more suited to the job, I would
opt for RoboHelp HTML over RoboHelp for Word.
I know it's seductive. Most everyone thinks they know how to
use Word. But if you are creating any type of HTML output, you will
likely find yourself hamstrung with making things behave as you
want using RoboHelp for Word where they are easy to accomplish
using RoboHelp HTML.
Also consider that the RoboHelp for Word user base is
shrinking daily as more folks move away from it (because it is the
only RoboHelp product that creates WinHelp systems) and toward
RoboHelp HTML. Vista prompted much of that exodus when Microsoft
announced WinHelp would no longer be supported in Vista. Yet it
lives on and I digress.
Hopefully I've not muddied the waters here.

Using Word wisely as a linked document for RH HTML 9
I am new to application help authoring and a total newbie to RoboHelp. I am writing a help project with RoboHelp HTML 9 for a brand-new software application. Virtually no content already exists in any sort of document, so I have the opportunity/challenge of starting from scratch. Since a handful of users will have authority to update content (but little bandwidth to learn much about RH), I was planning to write everything in Word 2010 and then link to my project. What I'd like to know as I get started is: Does this make sense as an approach (as opposed to, say, authoring in RH and then using print output for training and other doc requirements)? What are the pitfalls to avoid? What should I do/avoid in the Word doc to make the connection to RH 9 go as smoothly as possible? Are certain layouts more congenial to linking with Word than others?
I realize this is several questions--I'd be happy to get a recommendation on a helpful source of info or guidance on making these sorts of macro decisions. I self-educated using an "Essentials of RH" workbook and have studied the User's Guide and forums to create a prototype set of help topics for my client, but I haven't been able to find a good source of general info that addresses "why do this vs. that?" or "if I had had the luxury of being in control of the content from the get-go, I'd certainly have done X, Y, and Z." I am grateful (in advance) for any help you more-experienced community members can suggest.
Regards,
Amanda ATurning off smart quotes will only eliminate them in future usage, but do nothing to the occurrences in existing docs.
You should therefore also do a Find & Replace (double quotes in each box, then another pass for single quotes) to "clear the palate," so to speak.
Good luck,

Why does RCS prompt me to check out the .XPJ file when I open RoboHelp HTML?
We just upgraded from X3 to X5 and began using RoboSource
Control. We currently have a dedicated server machine and 1 client
machine (we'll be adding 3 more client machines once I resolve all
issues with this one). I have working folders set up on each
machine so I can open the Help projects with RoboHelp HTML.
The issue here is that I often receive the following prompt
in a dialog box when I open a Help project in RH HTML:
"To add version control information to this project, the
files in the list below need to be checked out from version
control. Do you want to check out these files?" (The only file
listed is the .XPJ file.)
I only seem to receive this message after I have opened that
particular Help project on the other PC. E.g., I open Help project
A on the Server. If I close it, I can re-open the Help project on
that machine multiple times without receiving the message. However,
if I then open Help project A on the client machine, I'll get the
prompt to check out the XPJ file. If I check it out, I can then
re-open the Help project on that machine multiple times without
receiving the message. Of course, if check in the XPJ file from the
client machine, I'll get the prompt on the Server machine to check
it out the next time I go to open it up from there.
Thoughts?Dirk,
Thanks for the suggestions. I was prompted to check out the
XPJ for one of our Help projects this morning. I clicked
No (to NOT check out the XPJ file from the database), then
selected the
File Status tab, right-clicked on the XPJ file, selected
Show Differences... and discovered that the XPJ file in the
database had the following version control related text, whereas
the XPJ file in the working folder on my SERVER machine did not
(the working folder copy on my CLIENT machine matched the file in
the database):
Note: This code appears between a <miscproperties> line
and a <CompileOptions> line (both XPJ files had these two
lines). -
I haven't used my RoboHelp in a few months and now
that I need to do some work in it I can't get it to open. What is
weird is that if I try to open RoboHelp for Word, that opens. But,
if I select the link for RoboHelp HTML or RoboHelp Starter neither
will open up. RoboHelp HTML shows in the task manager but never
opens. I'm running X5. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as I
really need to get busy on this project.
Thanks,
DebSorry, no, I've had the same login to this computer since it
was built last year which is when I installed RoboHelp.

RoboHelp HTML Command-Line Compiler
Is there a command-line compiler for RoboHelp HTML?
Hi all
While that may be technically accurate, I don't believe you
will end up with any "RoboHelp Specific" features. Conditional
expressions, browse sequences, etc.

RoboHelp HTML 11 Webhelp output not compatible with IE9?
We recently updated our software Help files using RoboHelp HTML 11. Today our customer support team received a call from a customer that cannot access the Help files from his system. He is using IE9 and an older version of Chrome, and cannot view Help in either browser. The customer refuses to update the browser on his server, presumably because he's afraid something else won't work if he does. I can sympathize with that, since there are certain applications on my own system that are incompatible with IE11, so I've had to roll back to 10. So, I know the files work on IE10, IE11, Firefox and the latest version of Chrome. Searching through the discussions, I found one that indicated that RoboHelp 11 required IE9 or above; if so, it's odd that it won't work. Do you have any suggestions of what I can do that might help the customer?
Sorry, different thread – I thought Willam had posted site’s article reference on this one (it’s here - http://www.wvanweelden.eu/articles/robohelp-patches-and-updates).
I think you may need to do a bit of exploration on what’s going on at the client site to see what they’re getting. You may want them to clear out their cache to refresh what they’re getting when they access your help. You also probably want them to have a look at what zone their IE9 thinks you help is located in & if they’ve enabled ActiveX and JavaScript (not Java) in their browsers. -
RH8 RoboHelp HTML published as web help TOC format
Is there any way to manually tweak the TOC formatting in a published set of sub docs that were generated from the root books of a RoboHelp HTML project?
Original project had Install Guide, Admin Guide, etc. which are now published separately. Problems: all files for all books are in each published help system. Browse sequences contain all topics. TOC format got 'lost' so tab names rather than icons are used for ...TOC, Index, Glossary, etc. even though Icons are in the projects. Individual projects open with one book, which must be expanded. No colors in TOC, and uses a different (and noticeably larger) font from the topic.
Since this one-off was done to an unknown version of the content, I'd be better off mucking with the cshdat and wh files than the content of the topics....just now revisiting the project that precipitated the original request. I have additional info and a request:
The separate help documents had been published without resetting the browse sequence. As it is today, (because browse sequences were not updated), many hyperlinks jump out of the published books and over to an earlier build that has a single TOC (same IIS server, but completely different path).
I learned that a RH HTML project can have multiple TOCs. So, my new question: is it possible for three TOCs to keep thier own browse sequences and access one common set of published HTM topics? How would that be engineered? I don't quite know how to manage hyperlinks that reference topics in one of the other books. I don't want to inherit the wrong browse sequences.
The alternative is to generate help from the 4 different TOCs into 4 different folders, which is a lot of replication. Like Siamese twins, there's a lot of cross sharing built into the original project, so in most cases, the "see also" relationships would give each separately published book 100% access to all the topics, but from a limited TOC. -
RoboHelp HTML X5: Merged help not displaying ToC
Hi All:
Hoping someone can help me here.
I have been generating merged help for some time now w/o problems. But got this problem today after compiling a particular project after a 15-month gap. When I compiled the parent/master project, the ToC displayed the child projects and the Information Bar displayed the following message:
"To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer. Click here for options..."
I ignored the message and clicked the child projects to check if they displayed correctly. Each child project opened new instance of IE - this has not happened before. The last time I complied this parent project, everything worked fine and child projects opened within the same browser instance.
Secondly, when I right-clicked the Information Bar message and chose to Allow Blocked Content, the ToC disappeared.
Just in case this is relevant, my employer replaced all our PCs last month and all software had to be reinstalled.
Could this be because of the new version of IE? (My old machine may have had an older version.) Or the fact that I have not installed the updates to Robohelp X5? (I keep getting the message that the Macromedia server is down.) I have not activated the product yet either.
Would appreciate any advice/clues.
Thanks in advance
SophieHi there
Usually you can prevent that message from appearing by enabling Mark Of The Web (MOTW) in the WebHelp generation options. The unfortunate part about that is you stated X5 and X5 didn't offer that option. So the next best thing you can do is to configure IE so it doesn't present the Yellow Information Bar. You do this by opening the Internet Options for IE. Click the Advanced tab and scroll to the Security section. Place a check mark in the option "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer".
Note that this only affects your own computer. If you are planning on having your end users copy the WebHelp files to their local C drives, you will have to instruct them to perform the same steps. But if you are uploading your content to a Web Server, they should not encounter this issue.
