Training route for Oracle EPM apps

I have extensively kicked the tires on ODI -- I like it.
I have also read the documentation (most of it) and of course read John Goodwin's blog: http://john-goodwin.blogspot.com/
There are still quite a few things that I'm fuzzy on.
Are there any thoughts on taking the official Oracle Data Integrator: Administration and Development class?
I come from a Hyperion background -- SQL is not really (to put it mildly) my forte nor is it my interest. However, I am interested in putting together bulletproof ODI implementations where it feeds/reads what used to be called the Hyperion suite. I am a little concerned that the course may be (yes, I have read the course summary) may be too SQL-oriented.
Is it worthwhile to take the course and pay the $$$ or would I better served just plugging away at the product and posting here when I have a problem?
Just looking for some opinions from those who either took the course or actively decided not to.
Thanks,
Cameron Lackpour

Hi
I have repeated this before also, the best and reliable place to get Oracle Applications training is from Oracle itself. You will get to choose from both instructor led or CBT to suite your needs.

    Hi All,
We are planning to have two node Oracle BI Apps 7.9.4 implementation on UNIX box. In our implementation, we are planning to have Informatica server on Data warehouse database Box and all other components on the other box.
I want to know how should i go about sizing the server which i am going to have for informatica & Data Warehouse database? Is there any document for identifying the server CPU & RAM sizing etc. for such implementation.
Any help in this regards would be of great help for us.

  • Upgrade route for Oracle 9.2.0.5 to 10

We are running on 32bit Windows server 2000 .
Our current level of Oracle is 9.2.0.5  .
Is it best to upgrade to Oracle 9.2.0.8 first or go straight for Oracle 10

    Hi Gareme,
You are right, SAP recommend that you have to upgrade to 10G only from 9.2.0.6 onwards,
I suggest you to download the upgrade guide from https://service.sap.com/instguides for upgrade to database 10G release 2, Check the necessary requirements & recomendatations for upgrade.

  • Technology and training suggestions for data gathering app

Can anyone suggest some technologies and/or support to get us started on a mid-sized handheld effort?
Specifically, we're starting a project to build a handheld (WinCE-based) app which will allow users to fill out a short form and gather a GPS reading and perhaps a camera snapshot to accompany the form data. This data will later be imported into our J2EE app.
We have almost no handheld experience and don't know what technologies to evaluate, or what consulting expertise to set up to help start the team.
    Many thanks for your help!

    Hi Adam,
I'd suggest to implement it in a way that will be the fastest to deliver
working code, except the case when the main purpose of the project
is teaching you EJB, Weblogic and J2EE.
For this particular problem that could a session bean making

I'm new to the WebLogic arena, and we're launching a new portal. We'vegot a portlet
that I want to query a SQL Server database for three records (specificallyonly one
column for the three records, that I want to concatenate). This data isupdated
approximately every four hours via an outside admin tool.
Looking for suggestions for the best way to implement this.
We don't need to constantly query this data, but it may also be overkillto persist
this data in a full entity EJB. I began to write a read-only entity EJBthat I figure
I could specify it's refresh interval in the deployment descriptor. Isthere a better
way? In a previous app, we were simply querying the database, storing astring (~1000
characters) in an application scope in memory, along with a date variable, and for
each user just checking the date variable. If the date was over fourhours ago,
we requeried the database with a component call (Microsoft COM). I'dprefer to reduce
even the RMI lookup for the bean if I can, but I don't think I grasp quiteenough
about the EJB pooling mechanism -- this might not be an issue.
Could I do this in a stateless session bean more efficiently?
    We're running WLS6.1sp2 in a dev environ with Portal4.0sp2. (But upgradingto sp3
    soon.)
Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

  • Oracle AS or Instant Portal Training for Oracle Employees

    Hi,
I noticed there is external training available for Oracle Portal. Is there any Oracle Portal training available for Oracle employees? If so, can you forward a link? I would appreciate it. Thank you.

No, if your application is a web application. (not client/server)
you need or Oracle AS 10g Enterprise Edition that include the Forms and report server.
or you can install only the Forms and Report Server standalone version.
    all of this are expensive.

  • Oracle EPM 11.1.2.1 Monitoring tools

    Gurus,
could you please let me know what are the available system monitoring or performance monitoring tools for oracle EPM 11.1.2.1 or in case licenses are involved what are the best key areas for manual procedures to monitor the system?
    Many thanks !

    Hello,
Monitoring is a broad term. There are many 3rd party tools available that can provide monitoring, it all depends on what exactly you're looking for.
Oracle has a document on setting up Oracle Enterprise Manager to monitor Hyperion Applications: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/sys9-oem-integration-1-129287.pdf. For performance monitoring, you can also look at this: https://blogs.oracle.com/pa/entry/epm_11_1_2_how3. This will basically connect to the JRockit JVM and look at the performance for the web application.
If you want to do more monitoring (services, servers, processor, CPU), you can look into Hyperic HQ: http://www.hyperic.com/. They have both an open source version and an enterprise version. I've used the open source version myself and it is pretty good and plays well with Windows. You can see many metrics, graphics and information via the web based application. You can also setup email alerts on certain activities (service stop, service start) and also monitor website availability. For being an open source software, I think it offers alot and it is very reliable.
Again, these are just a few suggestions. There are many tools out there that can accomplish what you're looking for.

    Luis

  • Cost Oracle BI Apps

    Hallo,
I'm doing my graduation project about TCO for Oracle BI Apps. I need to know all the cost items. Think about technical maintenance, license and that kind of things. not the amount but the parameters. Does anybody know more of this?
    I have for now the next cost items;
    technical and functional maintenance,
license for the system and modules
My project is to make a TCO Benchmark model so that you can compare different companies. With this TCO model i need the complexity, maturity and the risk measure
I thought I might try this way to get information or references to literature itself because I find almost none literature.
    Thanks

Basically, the FROM_DATE AND TO_DATE clashes. 05/31/2005 is both as end_date and start_date for two rows. That is the problem.

  • Need opinions/links/etc... regarding Oracle security for a custom app

Okay it's an open ended question but I need some help figuring out what we should be doing.
We have an old legacy Sybase system written in Powerbuilder which they want to move to a web app. Great! That means we get new toys. Problem, it's a standalone system now being merged into a web system. We're looking at Oracle 10.2 and App Server to run everything. We're not sure about reporting yet.
Here's my question. What/how is everyone using for user account security? I'll have say 5000 users at different locations in the world. Let's say you have sites A, B and C. I'll ultimately need to be able to allow Mr. Smith at Site A to create info which nobody at site B or C is allowed to see. But then Mr. Smith's manager should be allowed to see all the work done by his people so he technically has visibility to everything at site A regardless if he created it or not. The company VP & Presidents need to see everything from sites A, B and C. (Also possibly allow someone to 'grant' access to another person's info. ie - someone at site A allowing someone at site B to view their info by some interface setting)
Now there's a second level of sensitivity. Say unclassified, classified and top secret. Each employee, regardless of where they sit in the heirarchy tree above, can only see documents up to their sensitivity level. So someone with classified access can see unclassified and classified items, but not top secret.
Now I've looked at Oracle row level security and it looks like exactly what I'll need but that means that every user, needs to be a database user? I've never worked with something like that. The only other way I'm aware of doing this, would be have the application developers code all the checks into the system based on user info. That leaves lots of maintenance headaches and we will need a reporting tool so then we have to recreate all that info on the report side as well. (which is actually the way the current standalone system works. One main user to do the connections, then we have a "user table" to check rights, password & so forth).
Is it unheard of to create a custom app (that's the key, there is no COTS for this), then have all the user accounts be stored as actual Oracle users? For a web app, I'm used to a single user being the "pass through" for any connections to the database then pass that back to the user. Are there any considerations or tricks to integrate Oracle user creation into the system or it's as simple as have the app run the correct sql from an account with the correct permissions?
How else can this be done or how else is everyone doing it? Any links to info would be great and most appreciated. Stories and how you did it type of info is also real good!
    Thanks.

    Pierre,
That helped a lot. I ended up ordering one of Tom's recommended books on security. I also was able to find a few examples (once I figured what I needed to be looking for) that got me up and running with a test instance to play with.
    Thank you very much!

For the OS, you will have to go with a certified OS as per (Note: 316806.1 - Oracle Applications Installation Update Notes, Release 11i (11.5.10.2)).
Oracle Certification Matrix contains all the details about the OS certification (select Oracle E-Business Suite, then the Windows OS and the Application release).

  • How to setup JNDI Name for Oracle Apps adapter?

    Hello,
I am learning Oracle SOA 11g and trying to do some tutorial on Oracle Application Adapter.  I know how to configure JNDI for DBadapter and I did that successfully. I followed same steps to create New JNDI for Oracle Apps Adapter.
    1. I Created new data source using Path Services->Data Sources -> New Genric Data Source. Connection to database was successful and created new JNDI Name: jdbc/PKDTAPPS.
    2. Then Deployment-> OracleApps Adapter-> Configuration-> Outbound Connection Pools -> New and created JNDI Name eis/Apps/PKDTAPPS.
However I did not find newly created JNDI Name in step 2 under Deployment-> OracleApps Adapter-> Configuration-> Outbound Connection Pools -> javax.resource.cci.ConnectionFactory.
Please let me know if am I following correct steps to create new Oracle Apps Adapter JNDI Name or not.
Since above approch did not work I created new JNDI for DBAdapter with same database connection details. And then latter on use that JNDI Name while creating Oracle Application Adapter in JDeveloper composite. And it allowed me to access Oracel Apps open interface. However while deploying the application it gave me following error.
<Feb 16, 2015 10:50:59 AM CST> <Error> <oracle.integration.platform.blocks.deploy.servlet> <SOA-21537> <Sending back error message: There was an error deploying the composite on AdminServer: [JCABinding]

  • Oracle 10g AS  pacth for Oracle Apps 11i

    Hi everyone,
I have installed Oracle 10g AS (10.1.2.0.2) for Oracle Business Intelligence on Sun Solaris 10 (64 bit) and integrated it with Oracle Apps 11i (11.5.10.2).
Everything seems fine but i am facing problems like
    1) Toolbars not appearing correctly sometimes like it is disabled and enables by itself.
2)sometimes clients come accross "Connection with Server lost..." error while taking export (very few).
    3) Its giving the error (mentioned at the end) only on one client machine while taking export to Excel.
I have tried installing Oracle 10g AS patch set 2 10.1.2.2 for Solaris but the problem persisits. Is patch set 2 compatible or certified with Oracle Apps 11i? if not then is there any other work around or do i have to wait for some new patch.
    Thanx for your inputs.

    Hi
The last I heard is that 10.1.2.2 is not yet certified for use against E-Business Suite unless your operating system is Linux. Please take a look at this posting on Steven Chan's blog: http://blogs.oracle.com/schan/2007/04/23
The issues you are encountering, particularly the one with the toolbars disappearing, were fixed in patch 5345528 as described on my blog here: http://learndiscoverer.blogspot.com/2006/08/more-to-toolbar-icons-graying-out.html
I would advise you to go for this patch first until Oracle certify 10.1.2.2. for Sun.
    Best wishes
    Michael
