Tranfer files from mini to iTunes that were purchased from iTunes Store

I'm sure this is a common question but on initial pass I did not find what I was looking for.
I had to restore my computer. I backed up the files and thought I had imported them but when I click on a file in iTunes it does exist. So then I thought okay I have all my songs on my Mini. So I authorized my computer. I chose to Transfer Purchases but this did not seem to work.
Can anyone tell me what I'm missing. I'm using version 7 of iTunes on Windows XP.
Additionally, when I click on the file that is missing it says do you want to find it. I browsed to the file where I had it backed up on a DVD and chose open. Nothing seemed to happen.
So I still have the DVD so any thoughts on this will also help.

I figured out what was going on. The transfer music did not work because the definitions of the songs were there but the files were not. So when it tried to transfer the purchases it thought it did not need to. So I deleted all the definitions in the library and then did the Transfer Purchases again. This time it worked.

    Hi QuisB123,
If you are having an issue with reclaiming free space after deleting photos from your iPhone, use the steps in this article to assist -
If you get a "Not enough free space" alert on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    Specifically -
Orphaned files might remain on your iOS device if it's physically disconnected while syncing music, podcasts, videos, or photos. This can prevent iTunes from syncing the iOS device on subsequent sync sessions. When this happens, you might see a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the iOS device in the Capacity indicator in iTunes. Try these steps:
Turn off the music or photo sync option in iTunes for the device.
Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
Turn the music and photo sync options for the device on again.
Click Apply again to try to sync the device to iTunes. If you see the "Not enough free space" alert, continue to step 5.
Turn off the automatic syncing functions for the iOS device:
Select the iOS device from the iTunes window and click the Summary tab.
Deselect "Automatically sync when this device is connected" and select the "Sync only checked songs and videos" checkbox.
Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
Reduce the amount of data that is being synced to the device and resync the device. For example, if syncing your Music library exceeds the memory capacity of the device, choose "Selected playlists" to transfer rather than "All songs and playlists" under the Music tab in iTunes. If you see the "Not enough free space" alert, continue to step 6.
    Restore using iTunes.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Switched computers due to a crash. I authorised the new one. It won't let me play songs in my library that were purchased from I-tunes

Switched computers due to a crash. I authorised the new one. It won't let me play songs in my library that were purchased from I-tunes. Please help.

All content that you download from iTunes is tied to the account that downloaded it, and it can't be transferred to or merged with another account - so you will need to authorise that old account on that computer if you want to use its content.
If you still have access to the email accoun then you can try getting the password reset via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password
If you don't have access to the email account then you could try contacting iTunes support and see if they can help you get access to the account : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

How do I retrieve deleted songs on my iPod that were purchased via iTunes>

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.

  • HT1451 I used to be able to sync all songs that I downloaded from CDs to my iPad. Now I can only get the songs that were purchased from iTunes.  Can someone tell me why?

I used to be able to sync songs that I imported from CDs into my library onto my iPad and iPad touch. Now I can only sync the purchased from iTunes songs. What has changed?  Do I have to subscribe to iCloud to do this now?

    Hi Cricketdaw,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
iTunes should sync your entire library, and not just songs purchased from the iTunes Store, as mentioned in this article:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535
By default, iTunes automatically syncs your entire iTunes library whenever you connect your device to your computer. On each subsequent sync, iTunes will automatically add any new music or videos to the device and remove any items that are no longer in your iTunes Library.

  • HT1473 I have a ton of songs in my itunes that were burned from cd.  My computer died so I'm using another computer.  The new computer will show all my purchased songs from Itunes, but none of the ones I previously burned from cd

I burned a ton of songs from CD to Itunes and they showed up fine in my library.  I bought a new Ipod at the same time my computer died so I'm now using a totally different computer.  I logged in to my Itunes from this computer and can see every song purchased from Itunes.  What I no longer see are the ones burned from cd.

Does this iPod have the contents of your library? If so see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. Otherwise, depending on the nature of the failure, you may be able to extract the hard drive and recover the media from it. Or you will have to rip your CDs again.
If you'd like access to all your media on any device/computer in future you might consider purchasing a subscription to iTunes Match though personally I just maintain my own backup of my library.

  • HT1727 How can i get my old downloaded songs back that were purchased from my account to a new computer?

I deauthorized all my old computers to make it so my sister and I could get ITunes on our new computers, I authorized my computer now and i will authorize hers tomorrow but its not showing my past purchages on itunes in my library. How do I get my old songs back?

Have you copied them from your old computer via one of the methods described on the page that you posted from ? Your music will only show on your new computer's iTunes library if you put it onto it, so you will either need to copy it from your old computer, from your backup of your library and add it via File > Add To Library, or (depending upon whether you are in a country where you can re-download music and if the music is still in the store) you might be able to re-download your purchases via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your new computer.

  • Getting apps saved on iTunes that were purchased on iPhone

I purchased a Navionics app via iPhone.  When syncing to computer, the app doesn't appear.  If I install updates, I get message" there are purchased items on iPhone not synced to iTunes"  - that will supposedly be deleted if I install updates.  How do I get the app saved in iTunes on the iMac?  I have authorized the computer on the Store dropdown.

With the phone connected in iTunes, you can select it in the device pane and right-click and select Transfer Purchases.

  • I have some albums on my itunes that were transfered from my ipod, and some that were put on itunes from CDs. Now the 1st 10 songs of every album say that the original file can't be found, and i cant find them anywhere.

One day, they were there and working, the next they were all like this. There is a lot of money in these, and i would like to be able to keep using them.

Never move songs around by hand, iTunes will lose track of the files that you move.
Your iTunes library is normally stored in C:\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes.
The iTunes application stored in C:\Program Files\iTunes is meant to hold a selection of dll files that are needed by the program. Leavel them alone unless you are actively Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
If you know where you've moved things to my script FindTracks may be able to reconnect iTunes to the relocated tracks.

  • Finding files on an iPod Classic that were added from somewhere other than iTunes

I added files onto an iPod Classic from another source other than iTunes, but can't find that file on the iPod, either its not connected self, or when it is in iTunes.
So, how do I go about locating the file without going back INTO iTunes and adding the file into iTunes' library?

Hey thanks, Jim... Actually I do have a back up of my entire library on an external drive. Is the process just dragging the songs and albums from the Finder (from the external drive backup) onto the iPod when I plug it in to iTunes and they copy over? Is it possible to create new or update existing Playlists with this method? But is key is to never sync the iPod with iTunes or do I need to check Manually Manage Music & Videos?
Or am I looking at this completely wrong. lol

  • HT1473 I have songs in iTunes that were loaded from a CD. I want to make them MP3 format so I can use a converter to play MPe files in my wifes car. I plan to use a USB plugin and pass the songs through a cheap FM type converter. Don't want to spend hundr

I copied music from CDs into iTunes on my desktop. I downloaded a lot onto a USB stick. I want to play them in my wife's Toyota Avalon but I must use something like an FM converter and that requires all songs be in MP3 format. How can I reformat the CD songs into MP3 format? Not important enough to buy an iPod Nano!!

"but I must use something like an FM converter and that requires all songs be in MP3 format."
    No it doesn't.
An FM converter takes audio and sends it over FM to the radio.
A USB stick does not play audio.
You need something to play the audio (like an iPod) and plug the audio out into the FM converter.

  • How do I keep all my documents in iBooks that were purchased from on line store not at the iTunes Store. (Ver 7 has screwed up iBooks and it no longer works)

I have hundreds of 3rd party purchased lists and legal documents I keep in Ibooks. Since upgrading to version
7 iBooks only opens for a few seconds then closes any open document and kicks me all the way out of iBooks
How do I keep these and reload ibooks ? I am 500 miles from my main PC and need thee forms now.

The iPad is not new. It is almost 2 yrs old. Many of the documents are legal documents, legal journals text books etc that have a 30 day limit on downloads and that time period has expired. Your post suggested closing all applications and forcing a power down. That I have done several times. I have not restored the software as that would require deleting the contents. Not all the files are backed up and the ones that are, reside on my personal laptop that is states away and will be for at least a week and I need the data now.
