Tranfering files

I have an external hard drive and don't know how to copy a folder to it from my desk top. It will not let me copy and paste like my old computer.

Drag the folder from the desktop to the drive. If it's an NTFS drive, you either need to reformat it from the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder or install the NTFS-3G drivers.

  • Prevent ftp sender adapter from tranfering files from subdirectories

I have a scenario with a ftp sender adapter. In the configuration of the ftp sender adapter I have defined a base directory "/dir" and a file pattern "*". The directory /dir as a subdirectory /dir/subdir. Now the ftp adapter transfers also files from this directory. But I don't want that. Any solution?

    Hi,
I am not sure whether it is made so intentionally be SAP. However, if you wish to resolve this issue, you can specify a wild card for file names, such as the file extension (for example, *.txt).
    Hope this helps,
    Bhanu

  • Tranferring files from Ipad 2??

my daughter will be using an ipad 2 for school. can a flash drive be used to transfer things from ipad to her laptop if needed? if so what kind of connection would need to be purchased?  thank you!  also any suggestion on good apps for note taking and a stylus that works good to write with??

You can't use a flash drive as they are not supported (nor external drives). Depending on what app(s) on the iPad that you want to transfer files to/from then you can might be able to transfer when connected to your computer's iTunes via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab, via wifi, Dropbox, email attachments etc. - the actual method will depend upon what the app where the document is stored supports.
Other people will be able to recommend notes apps, I just use the basic built-in Notes app

  • Tranferring files from windows 7 back up file

How do I transfer my windows 7 system back up from an external hard drive to my new Mac OS X 10.7.2?  The old laptop is dead.

    Try here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp?view=discussi ons
But you don't usually have good luck at all trying to use Windows on new hardware.
Do a clean install, time to start over.
And if you did you would use Windows 7 DVD anyway to restore system restore image that you made ahead of time - hopefully, the best way to get your settings though is with Windows Easy Transfer.
Apple has Migration Assistant for Windows - take a look at that,, too.

    Post relates to: Palm TX

Connect your device via usb cable to your computer do not hot sync. Start Ptunes and wait until they connect. You will get a list of things you can do on your computer. It self explanatory from there. You must sync the 2 devices in WMP or what ever player you have on your computer.
As for the ringtones there are several thread explaning what you want to do try this one around page 13,14 or 15 it will explain how to do it without an sd card. http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=video_and_photo&thread.id=4395
Ps the thread is says its about Centros but it will work the same on your 680

I recently purchased a new macbook pro and would like to tranfers files such as music and documents from my old sony vaio laptop. The problem is that the screen on my old laptop is broken so the image is distorted and I cannot see a thing, which means I probably wont be able to use Windows Migration Assistant. Manually migrating
If you prefer to move your files one by one between a Mac and a PC, consider the following options. Some are easier than others, and some require more computer experience, equipment, or resources.
Generally, you can migrate your files to the Mac by:
Copying the files from your PC onto external or removable storage media and then use that media in your Mac to transfer the files to your hard drive.
Sending files over the Internet. If you have an email account, just send the files to yourself from the PC and then pick the mail up on your Mac and save the attached files to your Mac hard drive. You may want to compress larger groups of files first.
Connecting the Mac and PC together through a network to use file sharing to move the files.
Tip: If you're moving files over manually, you'll save yourself some time down the road if you organize your files during the process from the get-go. For example:
Move your PC My Pictures photos to your Mac’s Home folder Pictures folder
Move your PC My Music song files to the Music folder on your Mac
Move your PC My Videos files to the Movies folder on your Mac
Move PC text and PDF files to your Mac Documents folder
Export PC contacts to vCards, and import them into your Mac Contacts
    Use external or removable media
If your Windows PC has a CD or DVD drive, or a USB port:
Copy the files from the PC to an external hard drive or storage device, then reconnect the drive to your Mac and transfer the files to your Mac hard drive.
Burn files to a CD or DVD on your PC, and then use the discs in your Mac to transfer the files to your Mac hard drive.
If you don't have many files, transfer them over email, create zip files for larger groups of files. Mail your files from the PC to yourself, and then pick them up using Mail on the Mac.
    Use a network connection
Connect your old PC to your Mac—either directly or over a network. Before you start moving files over, you should install any Mac software that is needed to open the files. Once you're done, use one of the following migration methods:
    Direct connect
To move files by connecting your Mac directly to your PC (if both have an Ethernet port):
Connect your Mac to your PC using a standard Ethernet cable.
Make sure that both computers are turned on.
In the Finder on your Mac, choose Connect to Server from the Go menu to open the window.
Type your PC's network address in the Server Address text box using one of these formats:
    smb://DNSname/ShareName
    smb://IPaddress/ShareName
    Click Connect.
Follow the onscreen instructions to enter your PC's workgroup name, user name, password, and the volume or folder you wish to access.
Your PC volume should appear in the Shared section of your Finder window on your Mac.
Open the volume and drag and drop files directly from it to anywhere on your Mac.
When finished, click the eject button to right of your PC volume to unmount it.
    Network connection
To move files by connecting your Mac to your PC on the same network:
Make sure that both computers are turned on and connected to the Internet.
In the Finder on your Mac, choose Connect to Server from the Go menu to open the window.
Type your PC's network address in the Server Address text box using this format: smb://ServerName/ShareName, or select the name of your PC in this window (if it appears).
    Click Connect.
Enter your PC's workgroup name, your user name, and your password when prompted, then select the volume or folder you wish to access.
Your PC volume should appear in the Shared section of your Finder window on your Mac.
Open the volume and drag and drop files directly from it to anywhere on your Mac.
When finished, click the eject button to right of your PC volume to unmount it.
    Alternative methods
Copy files to a shared file server.
Purchase PC Data Transfer service at your local Apple retail store.

  • I installed and performed the Migration Assistant to transfer all my files and documents from my PC to iMac.  Nothing shows up in Finder on imac but Boot Camp Assistant window is on the screen. What is it, is it necessary, how do I proceed?

It seems I cannot proceed without it. What is it for, is it required, what is the process?

  • WRT610N 2GB limit for file transfer

I recently bought a WRT610N.  I setup the storage link with a 16GB USB flash drive.  When tranfering files to the drive from one of the networked computers it gets to 2GB exactly then the WRT610N shuts down the connection and the file tranfer fails.  I can mount the flash drive directly and tranfer any file size - then put the drive back on the WRT610N and it will allow that file to be copied off so I am sure its not the flash drive.  I have also tried multiple computers - and the transfer always stops at 2GB.  FAT32 has a 4GB limit - so, I'm not hitting the file system limit.  I am using the latest firmware from 1/21/2009 - which specifically mentions solving problems with large file transfers.
Is anyone having the same problem ort know a fix for it?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

This is a file system issue. FAT32 sometimes has a maximum file size of 2GB.
Try reformatting the drive to NTFS, this will fix it.
Unfortunately NTFS is sometimes unreliable and officially unsupported acording to the knowledge base (see answer id 17144), but sometimes you can get it to work

  • Mac Pro Kernel Panic w/Ethernet

I have a Mac Pro hooked up to "Linksys 10/100 5 Port Workgroup Switch". Hooked up to this is a Macbook (off and on, I only connect the Macbook when transferring large files to get the 100base-T speed) and an Apple Airport Express set up as a WDS remote base station.
Not a complex setup and as far as the Mac Pro is concerned it just has an ethernet connection to my LAN.
However I've been noticing infrequent kernel panics on the Mac Pro after hooking up the Mac book to the Mac Pro and tranferring files via AFP. This weekend I reorganised my desk and probably switched ethernet cables around. Now the kernel panics are extremely frequent.
Looking at the panic.log I can confirm my suspicions about Ethernet causing the problem:
    0x2514bf58 : 0x21c23b (0x380f5900 0x380f5900 0x44307c 0x1a1ec0) Backtrace continues...
Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies):
    com.apple.driver.AppleIntel8254XEthernet(1.1.4a5)@0x3c5a9000
    dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONetworkingFamily(1.5.1)@0x3c4f8000
    dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.1)@0x3527c000
    com.apple.iokit.IONetworkingFamily(1.5.1)@0x3c4f8000
I'm going to replace the ethernet cables ASAP, it could be bad cables are upsetting the Mac Pro (but I'd expect packet loss - NOT kernel panics).
Is anyone else seeing this or anything like it?
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Well you may have data corruption at the driver level. Backup your data, and then try running the Intel 10.4.8 combo update. Sometimes that helps overwriting the existing software and fixing issues. If not, you may need to repair the directory using my FAQ* as guidance:

  • How to use an external hard drive on a MacBook Air?

    Hi there.
Recently I bought a portable USB external hard drive for my MacBook Air due to my full startup disk. I also bought multiple disks for the hard drive. I inserted the disk, hooked up the USB, and did everything properly. When I first hooked it up, I lost all internet files that I had saved. All images, videos and downloads (such as Minecraft and other gaming downloads) from the internet were gone and unable to find.
Now, I don't want to make the wrong move and lose all of my internet files again, so I am asking how to transfer files SAFELY to the USB without any files being deleted. I tranfered files before, but they were just short cuts to the original file, so I am also asking how to fix that as well. My Dad was a computer technician, although he didn't work for Apple, so he doesn't know how to use the USB.
I've tried everything to find my internet files, but nothing. If there is a way to get them back, I'd be glad if you shared that with me. My dock files aren't working due to this insanely full startup disk, so I'd appreciate it if you could tell me ASAP how to use the USB, how to SAFELY transfer files without them turning into shortcuts, and how to get my internet files back.
    Thank you very much.
P.s My OS X version is 10.8.3 (Not with Mountain Lion)

You cannot format a drive so that files will be automatically put on that drive when you run out of room on another drive. Transferring the files must be done specifically by you. You will need to learn how to manage free space on the SSD because 64 GBs is a bit small for much more than OS X.
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • Instead of creating multiple Instances I want to create only one Instance.

    Hi Everyone
    Good morning, How are you.
I have a requirement to transfer files from one location to another location, I am able to do this successfully using FTP Adapters.
I have some Issues please help any one.
    1) When I deployed my process it is creating one instance for one file transfer, Suppose If I have 50 files in my Get
directory, After deploy the process 50 instances are creating and 50 Email generating saying files are not tranfered successfully.
Instead of creating 50 Instances I want to create only one Instance.
    2) When files are not transferd it will fire error mail saying that not success (I want to display all file names(not tranfered files) in my mail , i.e whatever files are not tranfered, need to diplay in mail).
    3) And I am not able to transfer 0 size files, But in BPEL Console Instance is creating for 0 size file also and I am getting Email for success... and In put directory 0 size file is not showing. (Instance is creating and Success Email coming but file is not exists in Put directory)
    Please help me.

    Hi saaraaz,
Welcome to the forum! I tried to transfer pictures via bluetooth and they were saved to gallery like they should. Please try the following actions and between them test if it works.
Firstly please make a back up with Nokia Suite. Then type in *#7780# = soft reset, no data lost.
If it's still the same, type in *#7370# = hard reset, the phone memory will be wiped. Restore back up. You can also try to make the back up without settings and then format and restore.
Reinstall the software. The process is the same when updating, but at the end select "reinstall".
Hope you get the device working again, please let me know if this is not the case.

  • Loosing raw data size when moving album pictures from aperture to iphoto 08

I have all of my Raw files and pictures stored on Aperture using versions in album format. Would like to use iphoto 08 only for tranfering files to web gallery. Yet every time I try to move files (ie drag and drop) from my albums (my versions) the file size diminishes therefore defeating the purpose since i'd like to have high quality images on my web gallery so others can download. I've tried clicking preferences to "copy files" into iphoto08 as well as leaving it unchecked but still the image file size goes from 2mb to 330 kb. ANY SUGGESTIONS??? I guess I could export the raw files from the masters yet it seems this would be awkward when working with pictures from different sources. HELP ??

Actually this is an Aperture issue since this problem only occurs when I export and then import files from aperture into iphoto 08. When I import files off a disk or external compact flash disk directly into iphoto 08 and then upload to the web gallery they retain the same file size yet the files that were brought over from aperture somehow loose there size once they go to the gallery. Interstingly enough the file size of versions brought over from aperture appear to remain in tact in iphoto but drop off once on the web???? Does this have anything to do with Versions as reference files...but if so how does one retain the chaanges made in aperture to a master file and export it to iphoto 08 and then on to the web and still retain some semblance of file size??? Note I already did enable downloading prior to uploading to the gallery.. HELP!
