Tranfering ipod songs to new computer

I am looking for a little help. The Apple help desk told me there is free software to assist in transfering all the songs from my ipod to my itunes library. I can see the songs I purchased, but not the list of songs I loaded on myself.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.

Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

My daughter has her songs on her Ipod, but lost her old computer and has a new one. How can we get the songs from the Ipod to the new computer. I read about syncing the purchased songs, but what about the others?

Loading iPod songs on new computer with previous users

I recently purchased a new iPod Nano and I am attempting to load my songs from a previous iPod onto a new computer (Mac) that is being used by another user (with their songs). My previous songs were loaded from an old computer that does not work anymore. I would simply like to load my songs on a new computer (which has a previous user) without syncing to their songs. I would then like to load my new iPod Nano with my songs from the old iPod.
Any help is much appreciated!

If you are going to be sharing the computer it would probably be simpler to set up a second Mac UserID on the computer and transfer your iPod music to iTunes within that ID rather than copy it into someone else's iTunes library. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one.
There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

I tried moving songs from my old computer to my new one....lost my Itunes folders....cannot restore to find them....I have a new notebook....is there software out there to take songs from an Ipod into an Itunes folder or even a new folder on the desktop?

If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting to your new computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

Transferring Ipod songs to new computer

Hi All,
I looked at the instructions to transfer my ipod songs onto my new computer and while they were crazy long, I think I could have gotten through it. One problem, I don't have my old computer.
Is there anyway to transfer the songs on my ipod, other than my purchased songs, onto my new computer?
The thought of digging all my cd's back out and loading them into this computer isn't my idea of fun.

Restoring Ipod songs to new computer

Is it true that with the new Itunes, i can restore everything stored on my ipod to a new itunes program...before it would over write the blank slots in itunes and delete my ipod library... before my computer crashed i set it up to sync connected to itunes... i hope that feature doesnt ruin this procedure... please help!!!

I think im in the same situation. I just recently wiped out my old cpu and i want to put my libary back on it from my ipod to my cpu. I read instructions how to put it back on, but then i found out that u had to copy ur libary onto ur ipod FROM ur old cpu first and then transfer it to ur new cpu (im using the same cpu, but everything is wiped out). im wondering if there is any possible way i can put my music on my itunes from my ipod to my computer without taking the libary from the "old cpu".

Purchased tracks can be transferred to computer using iTunes 7. Anything else needs other programs available online. Anapog and Yamipod are two, though there are many others.

Yes, if you choose the Erase and Sync option (or restore your iPod) you will be allowed to sync your iPod with the new computer.
