Tranferring frm ipod to pc for free?

i know i've seen a thread about a free program somewhere but i cant find it anywhere!
does anyone know a good free program to transfer songs on to the pc?
(around 3000 of them)

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

I don't have Apple care, but i read on apple's site that if you come in for a repair within a year of purchase that they'll give you the service charge for free. Is that correct? obviously i would pay for the screen still, but if i could save 150 bucks for service charge that would be nice. I've had it 5 months.

No, that is not correct, and I doubt very much you saw that anywhere on Apple's site. You must have misread. The warranty does not cover accidental damage.
As to repair, Apple does not repair iPods, but will replace the entire iPod for a flat fee; see the Repair Pricing section here:

There are independent iPod repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipod repair".

My iPod just fell and the screen cracked, i can still use it but obviously i want to fix the screen. I heard something about a free repair? It is the new one (fourth generation i think) the one with the two cameras on the front and back. Hope you can help

If you got it under a year ago, it's covered.
If you bought AppleCare and got the iPod less than two years ago, it's covered.

Transfer music from old ipod to new ipod...for free?

My husband dropped his ipod touch and it got run over. He has a new ipod touch but we can't figure out how to transfer his music from his old ipod to his new one. There's 800 songs on his old one. For some reason, the old ipod syncs photos into itunes but not songs? We've already spent enough money one the ipods and music...I don't really want to pay for all the software stuff to do it. Is it really that difficult? We were hoping we could just plug both ipods into the laptop and drag and drop in iTunes...but apparently that's not possible either. Help?!

All music that was on the iPod Touch should be your iTunes library on your computer. If Sync Music was selected under the Music tab for the iPod Touch sync preferences with iTunes, any music purchased from the iTunes store direct with the iPod Touch would have been copied to the iTunes library automatically with the first sync with iTunes after doing so. iTunes also includes an option for any music downloaded direct with the iPod Touch will be downloaded automatically by iTunes on your computer.
Photos on your computer can be transferred to an iOS device via the iTunes sync/transfer process but photos are not stored by iTunes.

NO, like most people I don't use iTunes like that, all my music is backed up on external hard drives and stored on DVD's, it is never all in the same place and I am not going to keep all my music on my computers hard drive and take up all the space. Now if only there was some magical amazing device that is like a laptop with a lot of storage space but only smaller that people could take anywhere to listen to all of there favorite music so they would not have to fill up there laptop or desktop's hard drive and/or drag around a computer where ever they go... oh wait, something like that already exists, it's called a #$%^*&! IPOD!!!. That is the whole point... The only place I keep most of my music on is my iPod but Apple and there infinite wisdom for some reason decided that iTunes would be the place where people would keep and manage their music and not the iPod, So since I can only sync my iPod with iTunes but CANT sync iTunes with my iPod I would be unable to do as you have suggested.

my friend broke her ipod screen and she took it into apple and they fixed it for free so can i get my fixed for free.

If someone breaks part of their device (intentionally or otherwise) it is not covered by the 1 year warranty so I'm not sure why she would have had it fixed for free.
