Tranport portal content from SP14 to SP18

Hello,
Is it possible and advisable to transport portal content (iviews, roles, etc) from a portal on EP6 SP14 to EP6 SP18? Do I need to manually move configuration from one portal to the other? What are my options?

Hi Kevin,
There should be absolutely no problem in transporting EPAs from SP14 to SP18 (as far as the transport mechanism in concerned; as far as SP14 based PAR implementations are concerned, they maybe should be checked if they use some undocumented APIs which are always subject to change without notice, but from your question I don't think that this was your problem/question).

What conf are you thinking of? As far as PCD objects and their conf is concerned, as said, for that you should use the normal transport packages.
As far as the KM config is concerned, this can be transported, too, but that is (totally independent from SP-level questions) something where one has to be careful (the best choice is only to bundle a configArchive with special own settings one is aware of, and not to transport the complete KM config).

These are the steps in migrating the portal content from the EP 6 SP15 to the Netweaver Portal (EP 7.0 or the NW 2004s Portal) in simple:
1. Go to System Administration -> Transport -> Portal Content. Right click on the folder, you wish to transport. Select New -> Transport Package .
2. Fill all the details (like name of the transport package, id etc) and then add the objects(iViews, Pages etc) you wish to transport to the newly created transport package by right clicking on the objects.
3. Once the objects are all added, click on Export in the object editor of the Transport package and the export happens immediately.
4. Navigate to Drive\usr\SAP\SID_Instance\Sys\global\pcd\Export of the EP 6 SP 15 Portal Server. You will see the epa file created during this export process.
5. Copy this epa file and place it in Drive\usr\SAP\SID_Instance\Sys\global\pcd\Import folder structure of the NW 2004s Portal Server. Go to System Administration -> Transport -> Import and do the import as you would import any business package.
This are the steps to export and import the portal content from one portal server to another portal server.

BI 7.0 upgrade from SP14 to SP18

We are upgrading SAP BI 7.0 from SP14 to SP18 and one of the source systems which is CRM 5.0 is not upgrading. So i want to know is there any impacts to data sources that we are using for CRM data and what are the steps we have to consider in this scenario.

As per my knowledge there is no impact on the datasources.
As your CRM is not upgrading,there will no change in the datasource and their structures.and mappings in the transfer rules. if u have upgraded the CRM system then you might observe some new datasources along with new upgrade version.

Migrate portal content from ep 7.0 to 7.3

We have to migrate following content from EP 7.0 server to EP 7.3.
- URL iViews with language translation
- Application Integrator iViews
- WPC content
Please suggest what should be the approach ?
Will all these portal content from 7.0 be compatible to 7.3 ?

Federated portal's, cann't see the roles and portal content from producer

We are configuring a Federated Portal, with a Producer EP7.0 SP13 and a Consumer EP7.0 SP13. The connection test is successful.
I can see the producer on the consumer and the consumer on the producer.
The problem is that I can not see the portal content of the producer in the portal content of the consumer. The producer roles are also not available on the consumer. I have selected the producer as the data source in the consumer UME,
then enter * in the role name field, then select "go", but nothing comes up.
Can anybody help me?

Following might be the reason:
1. User should exist in both user store of Consumer and Producer portal otherwise it wont work.
2. Incase if the registration is successful then there might be some problem with your servers (Consumer & Producer) clock timings.
3. Remote Role Assignment may get fail perhaps because user to whom remote role assignment is done doesnt have End User role assigned to him/her at Producer Portal. End-user permission enables business users to run content at runtime. Just as end users require end-user permission to run local content on your portal, they also need end-user permission for local content originating from a remote producer.
4. You should have Owner permission in the objects to which you want to assign permissions otherwise Remote Role Assignment wont work.
5. In the portal content studio, open the producer under 'NetWeaver content producers'. If it does not contain folders in it, the registration is considered to be unsuccessful even though it stated it was successful while registration.
6. During the process of Registering (Adding) Producer Portal, while entering the connection parameters of the NetWeaver producer portal use appropriate Host name against Host Name input field instead of IP address. Perhaps this might create some problem during execution in later stage.
e.g. Host Name: use sapProducerportal02 instead of 172.19.144.155

Migrating Portal Content from a previous release

I am stuck up with a challenging task. I am new to Portals and will really appreciate your help.
I have installed the new OAS 10.1.2 version and upgraded it to the Portal 10.1.4 version. There is a some Portal Content present on different OAS installations which are earlier versions of the server (9i and 10.0.3)
Can i migrate this Portal Content to the new Portal Server (10.1.4)? Please provide me with the appropriate information.

Hi,
It is not possible to migrate portal contents to the different version of Portal. In order to export the portal contents both the source and destination machine should have same Portal version.
As a work around you need to upgrade the Portal instance in other OAS to the highest Portal version(10.1.4).

location string should contain all the roles under "pcd:portal_content/"
your code is correct except you are giving the wrong pcd folder address.
If you want to get pages/iviews/worksets..change accordingly instead of
com.sapportals.portal.page
com.sapportals.portal.workset
com.sapportals.portal.iview
in the above code.

Transport of portal content objects from EP 6 SP 15 to NW 2004s portal

Hello All,
     My question is regarding the transportation of portal content from a EP 6 SP 15 portal to the NW 2004s portal. We had developed a lot of content in the EP 6 portal. We had installed and configured business packages in the SP 15 portal.
    Now, we installed a new NW 2004s portal and we want to transport all the developed content from the SP 15 to the new NW 2004s portal.
    I exported all the developed content to a transport package on the SP 15 portal and the export resulted in the .epa file. I then imported it into the new NW 2004s portal. But the issue now is I am unable to see the system aliases which were created for all the systems. The systems do exist in the new portal but the aliases do not exist.
Is there anything that needs to be done to get the system aliases?
Any help in this regard is greatly appreciated.

I think while exporting you have to select the option include dependant objects also to get the system alias also.

Transporting/Deploying Portal Content and Delta Linked Objects

I researching the best way to trasport/deploy changed ESS Portal content from sandbox to D>Q. I have become familiar with the few changes my co. needs to deploy part of ESS. I have read articles that say it is wrong to modify the "Content Provided by SAP". The recommendation appears to be "use delta link objects". I created the necessary delta links in a new directory.
How do I get the delta link objects to display instead of the sap source objects? I this primarily related to how the portal is configured or how the content is managed?
I'm really sorry about the general question (in advance) but this stuff is new for me and I'm essentially looking for some good direction here.

Hi James,
Yes exactly right. You should create your own PCD folder under Portal Content to store your objects. How you structure that is entirely up to you, however in my experience I have seen two ways
1. First by Function or Dept (e.g. Finance, Logistics, HR) then by technical object (iView, role etc...)
2. First by Technical Object (e.g. iViews, Roles, Worksets etc...) then by function or dept or region (Finance, HR etc...)
Number 1 makes more sense to me. Just some other tips when it comes to creating PCD content:
1. Put everything in your own namespace (e.g. com.mycompany) that way it is easy to separate from SAP content using filters.
2, Come up with a logical naming standard so you can easily identify content by group, function and technical type (e.g. for an iView you might name it whoswho with the prefix com.mycompany.hr.ivu resulting in a name com.mycompany.hr.ivu.whoswho)
2. Don't give PCD folders any prefix (e.g. com.mycompany) as it ends up elongating the resulting URLs unnecessarily and you can run into problems down the track.

Publishing content from reports server to a portal page

I have a system with Forms/Reports 6i in a client/server implementation. I have 6i reports server from this on the server tier. I have added 9iAS (minimal install) to get Portal and HTTP server. I have completed the configuration and I can have the portal page submit jobs to the reports server and they are displayed properly.
But I also wish to run reports from the application. This app submits jobs to the reports server via RWCLI60. I was hoping I could use 'File' as the destype and drop off content into a directory the web server knows about and then have a portal page that will generate links to the files. These could be pdf or html output.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible and provide a short list of steps to configure it? Thanks.

please let me tell you the detailed information. My basis guy had configured the system for me as i didnt have any idea on installation procedure. So i am facing th e fallowing problems.
 First Problem
I am not able to create the user from portal directly. Its showing the fallowing error.
An error occurred in the persistence; contact your system administrator.
so i had created the users in WAS by SU01.
Second
We have some users at production server ( Assume 5 users ). and those users need to be mapped at portal. So that those users can directly enter into portal and operate on SAP system .

i had created some transactional Iviews that are working fine when i am log in with Administrator( super administrator role). The problem is that the reports are not showing when i am log in with general user ( with out super administrator role ) .

For aministrator its working fine .and for a general end user ( created on WAS )

Java.lang.NullPointerException in xRPM iView Preview from Portal Content

When I am trying to Preview the xRPM iViews from Content Administration>Portal Content> Portal Content> Content Provided by SAP> End User Content> Project Portfolio and Design Collaboration> iViews>Portfolio Manaagement> Item Dashboard
I am getting the following error
"500   Internal Server Error
Failed to process request. Please contact your system administrator.
While processing the current request, an exception occured which could not be handled by the application or the framework.
Root Cause

Is TRex required to display content from Content Server in the Portal?

Hi all gurus!
A short question: do you have to have TRex (or any other search/index engine) when you want to display content from a SAP Content Server in the portal? Or does the content server has its own search/index engine?

Hi,
Sap content server can be added in the portal as an KM repository. So configuration is needed. But when finished you can open and look at the content server like they are normal KM folders. TREX on the other hand is advisable in order to have the means to quickly find something in your content server. Otherwise it is like any other stupid file structure. lots of files and lots of folders.
Depending on you portal version you need to install a bussiness pack for document managment to get the content server visable in KM

Pulling Data in Portal Content Management DB from Documentum

Is there a way to get data in the portal content management database directly from documentum? We have documentum as one of multiple content management source in our environment.
What we want to do is that whenever anything is published in documentum, the weblogic portal content management database gets that same data through a pull or push service.
Can this be configured in portal content management or do we need to write our own java based service which polls documentum on a regular basis, gets the data from it and enters it in BEA content management database.
The data migration from documentum to weblogic portal db has to be transparent to the user and no user interaction should be required to accomplish it.

Hi,
To my knowledge there is no tool to propagate content from DCTM to BEA. What it is available is the CM SPI integration which links the DCTM system to the Virtual Content Repository in the Portal. It works with the DCTM Content Server as well as the Caching server. The integration works very well and we have several joint customers using it.
If you feel like exploring options you may want to see if there is a way to export the data from DCTM. If so you might be able to use the Bulkloader to get data into the portal.

First, thanks for your reply. It's greatly appreciated. However, the level of your response fails to address the scope of the original question. Your first supposition is incorrect, that most MS Word docs copy uneventfully into the body of Gmail emails. This only applies to the most basic of MS Word docs (i.e., those utilizing minimal formatting, such as basic letters, etc.) and otherwise runs contrary to dozens of online complaints posted by users such as myself (though not on the Firefox website). Second, everyone knows you can add an attachment to Gmail emails. In this case, the recipient will not accept attachments of any kind, and has therefore asked that the content be copied directly into the email body. This is not uncommon in these cases. Third, the very nature of Notepad makes it unable to translate/interpret any documents beyond the most basic, hence its name: Notepad. Fourth, apparently this problem is rare or virtually non existent with other browsers, as all the complaints online appear to be Firefox related. Again, however, I appreciate you taking a stab at this.
