Transactional Currency Budgeting in Hyperion Planning

Does Hyperion Planning support transactional currency budgeting? For example, I want to be able to prepare entries in my budget for a EUR functional currency entity in USD, GBP, and BRL. Is this possible? I am on 9.3.1. If this is not possible, does this functionality exist in version 11?

Hi,
There is nothing like Transactional currency budgeting "out of box" solution in planning.
You will have to devise your own functionality. One way of doing it: --
First way: --
1. Create a transactional currency dimension, similar to Currency dimension. Obviously, the names of transactianal currency will be T_USD etc, if you have currency duimension.
2. load numbers in transactional currency, convert currency from transactional to functional, and then from functional to reporting currency.
there might be other solutins depending upon your requirements complexity.
Cheers

  • Hyperion Planning vs Oracle Financial for departmental budgets

    Hello,
I was wondering what the consensus is between using Oracle Financials vs. Hyperion Planning for variance analysis purposes.
My contention is that HP is a best-in-breed budgeting/planning tool and should be used to house our departmental budgets/forecasts and that actuals should be fed from Oracle Financials (G/L) to Hyperion Planning for variance anlaysis purposes. Some of my piers disagree. They feel the budgeting/forecating data should be pushed to Oracle Financials for variance analysis purpose. They claim it will be easier to provide drill-back capability into the ledger to find the answer to their variances.
I really couldn't disagree more - to me the analytical capability of HP trumps any drill-back capability provided by Oracle Financials. In addition, if we use an ETL tool like FDM to feed actuals from Oracle into HP, can't I drill back to the transactional data (actuals) via FDM? In addition, since we budget at a summary account level, how can you push summary planning data in HP to detailed transactional accounts in the G/L - pushing "one to many" doesn't make sense to me.
Anyway, just looking for some expert opinions on the subject. Much appreciated - Thanks

    Hi,
We are currently in the final phase of implementing Oracle Financials and Hyperion for the same purpose that you have described in your post. We use Oracle Financials to record actuals and then transfer it to Hyperion under the scenario 'Actual'. While the budget/forecast data in only entered/saved in Hyperion. There are several financial reports for variances that are generated out of Hyperion. So far, this arrangement is serving us pretty well. I second your point that in Hyperion, we can easily compare summary level data. We have Hyperion reports that do variances calculations for sub-totals. In fact, we are also using HP reports for consolidated statements such as Balance sheet, Income statement etc. The actual data for these statements is coming from GL.
As for drill through functionality (from HP to sub-ledger details in financials), we are in process of implementing FDM and use it for both (1) loading data and (2) drill through.
    Hope this helps.

  • Use ODI to Extract Data from Hyperion Planning & Budgeting report to Excel

    Hello
Can someone tell me please how to Extract Data from (Financial Reporting in) Hyperion Planning & Budgeting into Excel Using ODI?
Would the steps be the same as Creating an ODI Project and Interface: Exporting a Flat File to a Flat File? If not, why?
    Best Regards.

Where do you think the financial reports get their data from? Financial Reports pull data from data sources such as Essbase, HFM.

  • Load Hyperion Planning to R12 Budget using ODI

    hi,
We are using Hyperion Planning v11 and Oracle Finance R12
We already setup the ODI repository (Topology, Context, etc) and was able to do reverse using RKM Essbase
Can anyone give us the steps/procedure on how to Load the Hyperion Planning data to Oracle Budget
    thanks in advance

Can you please share the knowledge of loading Essbase data in to EBS using ODI?
I heard you have to run concurrent program to post data in to GL. I am new to concepts of GL. Can you please share the information of the scripts you are mentioning and the knowledge to achieve the data load. Appreciate your help.

  • Hyperion Planning and Budgeting

    Hi all,
I want to know about the hyperion planning and budgeting. Please guide me in it...

    Hi,
you can do the same work in SEM-BPS as with Hyperion.Only difference being the integrity of the various modules. As well the integrity of SEM with BW is much more powerfull and versatile than Hyperion with BW.Only reason being its a third party software. Hyperion is another BI tool independant of SAP BW. It is not the same tool than the BEx analyzer used only for querying BW data
    Suggestions:
BW data could be reported from Hyperion by connecting the system with the right adapter; the other way around isn't possible (querying hyperion data via BW) except by setting the hyperion DB as a DB/UD Connect source system and having remote IProviders on-top of it.
If you want ,you'll synchronize BW metadata in Hyperion and then create a report in Hyperion which will retrieve data from a BW query released for OLE/DB for OLAP (query properties/extended)
now you can access any BW query / cube / multiprovider in BW
Remember that hyperion has been bought by Oracle some months ago...

  • Replacing Oracle OFA with Enterprise Planning and Budget or Hyperion

I'm looking at replacing OFA with EPB. Does this option still exist or has Oracle
    phased it out?

    Hi,
Oracle Hyperion Planning is the way forward and is the budgeting and planning tool of choice for Oracle.
So if you are going to make an investment I would go for Hyperion Planning.

  • Currencies in Hyperion Planning

Hi, I'm working with Oracle Hyperion Planning, and I'm trying to create an application with multiple currencies. From what i read in the users guide there is an automatic calculation that should be created, as well as the dimension for manage the currencies.
I see the dimension but where can i see this calculation?? and if it doesn't appear why could it be?
    Thanks a lot!!!
    Nidia

    Hi Nidia,
Multiple-currency applications store exchange rates with the HSP_Rates dimension, which includes these members and others that store currency rates:
    HSP_InputValue: Stores data values
HSP_InputCurrency: Stores currency types for data values
For that matter you can create :
    1) Select Administration, then Manage Exchange Rates.
    2) Select Administration, then Manage Currency Conversion.
If multiple currencies are enabled for the Planning application when you create a currency
conversion, a currency conversion calc script is created, based on selected scenarios, versions,
and currencies. A second calc script is generated by Planning. It copies appropriate exchange
rates to the account, based on account rate types. For currency conversion, the Account type
always takes precedence. Data type evaluation order is not considered. The copy calc script is
named HspCrtB.csc for bottom-up versions and HspCrtT.csc for target versions. Running
the copy calc script enables the currency conversion calc script to run in BLOCK mode, which
is more efficient than CELL mode.
For more information check out planning Admin guide.
    Cheers...!!!

  • Report in Transaction currency

    Hello Experts,
My client has controlling area currency 'GBP'. While budgeting in CJ30, he enters in EURO (transaction currency). Exchange rate entered in budget profile is 'M' i.e Standard Translation at Spot rate.
The  drilldown report shows in controlling area currency. By clicking on 'Currency' icon, one can see in Transaction currency. There he selects to 'EURO' and  'Translation Key' is Default for drill down reporting. But this value is not equal to the one which entered during budgeting.
But the line items show the correct value.
Is there any solution to this??
    Regards,
    Laxminarsimha

    Hi Venu,
Thank you very much for your reply.
I had already tried this option but couldn't get correct value.
CO version 0 has exchange rate type is 'P'- Standard translation for cost planning, where as in budget profile the exchange rate type is 'M'- Standard translation at spot rate.
    Any other solution??
    Regards,
    Laxminarsimha

  • Oracle Financials or Hyperion Planning for variance analysis??

We are considering Hyperion Planning for our Departmental budgets/forecasts and I'm have a disagreement with a few piers. Was hoping you could help. It's my contention that the budgets/forecasts AND actuals should be populated in Hyperion Planning. A few of my piers contend that the budgets/forecats should be housed in Hyperion Planning and pushed down to Oracle Financials for variance analysis - in order to provide drill back capability into the transacations that caused the variance.
Since H.P. is a consolidated system, I would think it's impossible to budget at a summary account level in H.P. and push it to base level/transaction level within Oracle Financials (one to many). In my view, the actuals should flow up from Oracle Financials, via FDM, into H.P. where variance analysis can take place? I would think drill back capability could be provided via FDM within Planning?
Anyway, was hoping to get your thoughts.

  • Hyperion Planning Classic vs. BPMA 9.3

    Hi,
We are on Hyperion Planning 9.3 (including all latest patches). We are in the process of building a new Planning application. Currently we donot have an ETL tool and it doesnt seem we will get one for the next few months until our new Planning application is deployed into production. So in a nutshell we wont have an ETL to solve the below problem.
    I have used Planning Classic along with an ETL tool to build my meta-data in past implementations, and havent had a chance to use BPMA. Lately I have started getting aquinted with BPMA and understand some of its advantages. However, I still have a few specific questions;
    1. I know Planning Classic allows manual creation of members, does BPMA allow the same? Or does BPMA have to have flat file or interface table to create or add members? Our business users would be manually creating some members, or for instance change the start or end month of a 'Scenario'. So, does BPMA allow manual editing and pushing of meta-data?
    2. If an application is created via BPMA, they would have to interface via BPMA and not Planning Classic anymore. Is that true?
    3. I understand it is possible to convert a Planning Classic application into BPMA but "NOT" vice versa. Is this true?
    4. Finally, a more difficult question, a more specific question which kinda of dictates the choice for us.
My client would like individual departments do their respective budgeting (noting unusual there). However, most of these departments budget per 'Project' and more specifically like to budget based on 'Project Name' (which are unique and not generic) as opposed to 'Project Numbers' (there isnt a Project number standardization as such yet). The challenge is getting the 'Project Names' into Hyperion Planning (sadly it doesnt exist in ERP/GL yet because these are new projects).
So, though the Finance Team ultimately approves each department's budget, they would like each department be able to create their respective 'Project Names' in Hyperion Planning. And Planning capabilities like supporting detail, etc wouldnt work as they would like variance based on 'Project Names' and be able to slice-n-dice based on 'Project Names'.
Now if we had an ETL tool the above would have been simple, I would have just created an automation to say pick-up a file with 'Project Names' from a pre-determined folder location. However, because we donot have an ETL, I was wondering if BPMA could do the same, i.e., automatically pick-up a file from a folder and create members and refresh Hyperion Planning? Could the 'Batch Processing' in BPMA handle this?
    Appreciate all your responses...

    Hi,
First of all I wouldn't recommend using EPMA until version 11, 9.3.1 was riddled with issues.
To try and answer some of your questions
    1. You can manually maintain members in EPMA if you choose to do so, you need to push it down to planning/essbase if you do make changes.
    2. If the planning app is in EPMA mode then you can't edit/add/delete member information through the classic route, you can view. You still can design forms, task lists etc through planning web.
    3. It is possible but no you are not meant to.
Sounds like you could do with ODI it would make your life easier, are you sure you are not licensed to use it, you may be entitled to use it.
    Cheers

  • Budget/Actual/Commt/Plan Costs

    Hi Gurus,
i am running the below transactions,
    S_ALR_87013558 - Budget/Actual/Commt
    S_ALR_87013560 – Execute Budget Updates
    S_ALR_87013533 – Plan/Actual/Commt
Now my Job is to extract the Data out of these reports,
now since there are so many Finance costs are there , and most of them are being calculated , it's though to get correct Table Logics.
Also debugging the whole standard transactions seems to be impossible,
I tired fetching the report Data using ALV Extraction , but due to fact that ALV is disabled in standard code, i can not, fetching from Spool is also not feasible due to Performance issue.
Also since PS Module interacts with every Other Modules so installing BI Content is also not feasible to me,
Now , can anyone please help to understand , how to fetch data from these reports.
i have already seen so many posts with same problems, but none were able to solve it.
i would love to go with the Table Logic Approach, can you please help me.
    Thanks in advance
    Aman

You could try to extract yourself the data
Use logical database PSJ or report RKPSEL00 + variant to generate list of objects in project hierarchy
Read CO Total table (e.g. COSS, COSP) or FM (e.g. K_COSSA_READ_MULTI, K_COSPA_READ_MULTI)  to access cost for those objects, field WRTTP identify cost type. (actual, commited, budget, etc.)

  • How many databases can I create under Hyperion Planning

    Dear all,
I'm new to Hyperion. I have a doubt on Hyperion planning. In our project we have only one database for every planning application. Can I create multiple databases? If yes, what is the maximum number of databases can I create?
If this post is not related to this category, please provide me the exact category so that I can post in the exact place.
    Please help me ASAP.
Thank for all your help in advance.

    Hi,
You can create five databases in a planning application ( three custom, workforce and capex).
