Transcode audio without transcoding video

I've got a big pile of clips that are ProRes 422 encoded, sizable, and numerous. However, as a result of a button not pushed in Compressor, they all have audio encoded using AAC - which we know FCP cannot edit without rendering again and again. (Original footage came from Flip, Zi8, Xacti and other minicams)
My question is, is there a way to reencode the clips with 'video passthrough' so that the process is quicker and I don't have to double my storage needs in the interim? Just reencode the audio, keep the video, and replace the old file? In Compressor, I see there is an audio passthrough option, but no video passthrough. I can create new audio files, add them to the movies in QT, but then I have a lengthy and not very batchable re-export of each clip to go through...
Any suggestions?

The only way I can think of to do this is in QuickTime Player, deleting the unwanted audio tracks and pasting in the new audio...

How to edit audio without disturbing video

Hi:
I have working with FCP 6 on another office Mac and got 7 for my iMac. On the other machine, I could edit audio (cutting, trimming, deleting, etc) without disturbing the video clip tied to it. However, now I cannot. If I highlight the audio track, I also highlight the video track. Any cutting or trimming I doto audio results in a trim or cut of the video.
How do I make it a default that these two tracks should be treated separately?
Any help would be really great.

This looks like it will work. However, is there anything in settings to, by default, only select the one audio or video track that I want to edit rather than selecting the audio or video tied to it too?

In Premiere Pro CS5.5 AVI file imports audio only - no video.

I've got a file (one of 3) I've been given to create a smaller file (320x480) from.
The file is an avi file and plays (video and audio) just fine in the native Windows media player. (I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit) There are no issues of memory or HDisc space.
Video:
The file is 2:21:29 in length.
720x480
Data rate 1489kbps
Total bitrate 1617kbps
29 frames/second
Audio:
Bit rate 128kbps
Channels 2 (stereo)
Audio sample rate 48 kHz
The file is about 1.6Gb
This is one of 3 I recieved. The other two were of comparable specs and similar length (not exactly but one was longer, the other shorter.)
The problem is that this particular file (the other two import perfectly), when imported, only comes in as an audio file. No video imports. The other files import as audio and video. No error message either.
I've imported all kinds of video files in the past with different frame sizes, rates, and aspect ratios, and codecs, yet I've never had one that only imports the audio without the video.
Suggestions?!

Transcoded video and audio folders contain a .ses file - why?

Using Encore DVD 1.5 (how is it up there in CS3 land?)
When transcoding video or audio files in Encore DVD an Audition session
file is created in the transcode folders. When I open these sessions in Audition they are empty. They even show up in the transcode folders
for Video that contains no audio. What are they used for?
Also, can I delete these .ses files after the transcode is complete without affecting the project?

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox (you need to close and restart Firefox).

Is it possible to Replace audio in a video without re-importing and re-exporting ?

i have exported a video of 2 hours length.. Then i just feel i need to replace the audio with another audio file which has small tweaks in it.. Can i replace the audio in the video i exported without having to reimport the video into fcpx and re-exporting ??
can i do this ? is there a way to replace audio ? any external apps available ?

If you're set against reimporting/exporting: Quick Time Pro should accomplish what you're trying to do. It's a $29 license, but is much more useful than QTX and is a tool worth having if you don't already/

Recording audio without video

Is there any way to record live audio from a mic and
streaming it through FMS without having to have a webcam plugged
in? Is there way to use another video source other than a webcam,
such as an existing flv?

Sure... you can record audio without video. It's the same as
recording both... just don't attach the camera to the netstream.
As for adding another video image... that one you can't do.
You can only play once source over a stream, so video from one
source and audio from another can't be played across a common
stream.

Import audio WITHOUT video

I am working on an iMovie 09 project and I can't manage to use only the audio of a clip without the video. I can dettach the audio and move it around, but if i delete the video clip, the audio disappears also ...
Anybody a clue?

Welcome to the discussions.
For what you are trying to do, use iMovie 6. If you had it before installing iLife 08, it is in your Applications folder, iMovie(previous version). In iM6, what you want to do is under the 'Advanced' menu option...to 'Paste Over at Playhead.' You want to paste your photos over the video and keep the audio going.
If you open iMovie HD, see if you still get its Help files, and not iMovie 08's and you will find the step-by-step instructions. If you cannot find it, here it is:
I+nserting video clips or photos in a passage while maintaining running audio:+
+You can paste a new video clip or photo over an existing clip while retaining the audio from the original clip. The video cuts away to a new picture, but you continue to hear the sound from the original clip.+
+To replace images in a clip while maintaining running audio:+
+Choose iMovie HD > Preferences, and then click General.+
+Select the "Extract audio when using Paste Over at Playhead" checkbox.+
+Select the video or photo that you want to insert.+
+Choose Edit > Cut or Copy.+
+Do one of the following:+
+To paste the entire video you selected in step 3, position the playhead at the first frame to be replaced. When you paste the clip, it will replace a portion of video equal to its length.+
+To paste over a specific segment of your movie, select the part of the video clip you want to paste over.+

Recording Audio from DVD Video

Hi,
I have a music concert video on DVD. I would like to record a song off the video so that I can learn to play the guitar part. Is there any software out there that will separate the audio from the video, or in other words, capture the audio and maybe convert it to mp3 format so that I can play it in iTunes without playing the video?

I am using MTS files. They load in PE fine. The problem is when I try to play them, I just get audio and no video. I have installed the latest updates. Is there a CODEX that I need.

I have windows 8.1. I have downloaded the mts files from my video camera onto my hard drive. I have loaded a subset of these mts files into premier elements and they show up fine. I can bring them to the time line without a problem. The issue is that when I click on them, I only get the audio and no video. Normally when you click a thumbnail, the picture shows in the large screen. That screen remains blank.

2. My driver before you response was 3/4/14   9.18.13.3523. I went to Nvidia and downloaded and installed latest driver 7/2/14 9.18.13.4052
3. Rebooted and checked APE and no change in the problem. Still doesn't show video when I double click an thumbnail or if I single click it does not show a video image in the large screen.
4. Some things I have done to try to resolve the problem.
     a. Searched this forum for a similar problem. I didn't see one.
     b. Did a web search to see if I could find a solution outside this forum
     c Went into "edit" and tried some changes in project preferences and setting to see if that would make a difference
     d. Tried to contact Adobe support to speak to a person but that seemed difficult and could never figure out how to do it.
5. I have always loaded AVI clips into this program and this is the first time I have tried MTS files. When I opened the new project, the program notified that I had to change something??? to load an MTS file and asked me if I wanted the program to do this for me. I said yes and here I am.   I seem so close to making it work.   Thanks

Video transfer to PC but got audio only, no video.????

I have a Curve, 8330. I took my first video, a one minute epic. It plays great on the BB. I was able to transfer it to my PC, but I only get audio, no video. I tried both an email transfer and a direct cable connect with ROXIO. It saved as a Quicktime file, but just won't play right. What am I doing wrong? I also tired opening it as a WMP player with the same results; audio but no video.

BUT WHY doesn't it work? and how can we fix it/make it work?
my cheap 'non apple' video cable works fine initially, then a message pops up about it not being an 'offcial' cable or some such, then asks if I want to enable airplane mode (both with or without it already disabled), and disables video out completely. Contrary to the many others that have overpaid for your proprietary cables; I'm NEVER EVER EVER EVER going to pay you for your atrociously overpriced cables, because you're action of 'disabling' 3rd party cables is monopolistic in any sense, destroys any hope competition in this area, hinders innovation by third party peripheral developers, and is downright unamerican imho because it does so. You've gone to far this time apple! I've come to the conclusion, you obviously don't care about functionality, as your hardware is almost always overpriced, proprietary, good looking junk, and you keep shaking my pockets for more money with your overpriced accessories and constant barrage of itunes streamery.
Anyway, how can I use my device to do video out on this officially licensed apple dock I have? It doesn't seem to work; and I paid a lot of money for it. If there isn't a solution; maybe you should give out refunds for all the devices that now don't work? Thanks

How to play an album without the videos

I want to play an album I have bought from the iTunes store. However it comes with videos for some of the songs which are sorted by track name which means when I want to play the album it plays the same track twice...once for the video and then for the audio.
Can I just play the audio album without the video content?

Deleting Albums will not delete the images. They remain in All Photos and Collections.

How to make audio (within a video) background music?

Hi: I have Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0. I have video of a guy singing that is three minutes long that I would like to use as the background music for a video montage. The video montage itself is about 3 minutes as well. I would like to start the video montage with the guy singing, then make the rest of the montage have just the background music of the guy singing (without the video of him). How can I do this? That's how I'd do it, too.
Another option might be to just plop the montage on Track 2 at the appropriate starting point and not do anything with Track 1 (the guy singing). The video from Track 2 would be used instead of the Track 1.
Not sure what would happen with the sound though - don't remember if Track 2 audio overlays Track 1 or if they get mixed
Also not sure what the OP wants... is the guy singing supposed to be "background" as in you can still hear the montage audio with the singing as light background, or whether the guy singing is the *only* audio.
