Transcode to Cineform AVI

I have the Cineform codec installed on my computer, but it is not being offered as a transcode option in Prelude.  Is there anything I can do to allow me to transcode my files in Prelude to Cineform AVI?

Okay, I think I found a workaround.  I created a new preset using Adobe Media Encoder, and instead of choosing "Cineform AVI" as my base codec, I chose  "AVI" instead.  Under the video tab, I changed the video codec to "GoPro-Cineform Codec (x64) v7.4.0", and changed the rest of the settings to what I would normally encode to (1920x1080, 23.976, progressive, square pixels), then named the preset "AVI Cineform 24p".
When I went back to Prelude, it appeared under the AVI presets.  I didn't have to restart the program.
While this does work, it's far from intuitive.  I'd much rather just be able to choose my codec from Prelude's transcode menu.

  • Adobe Media Encoder Fails to convert the H264 movs from may Canon 5D mark 2, to Cineform AVI's

It fails no mater what codec settings I have tried.....forcing me to use the HD Link that came with NeoScene( Cineform)....Once converted by HDLink, the Adobe Media Encoder is fine transcoding the Cineform avi's to any format it normally works with.
While not a huge problem--certainly I "can" always use HDlink to convert the mov's....I would like to get this fixed.....
And then there is the issue of what should be the appropriate way to metalog when I dump 300 new clips into the system that were just shot.....Of course it is easy with the mov files, but really I would think they should all be transcoded to Cineform AVI's before doing anything...Thoughts?

I'm not even sure if this qualifies as a "bug". The only thing at issue (if I understand correctly) is that AME is failing to recognize the PAR of the file. AFAIK, there is no "standard" for flagging PAR in AVI files (aside from DV footage, which can have simple boolean 16x9 flag).
Adobe has their RIFF headers -- but this is by no means a standard across the entire industry. There is no indication that your file contains any PAR information whatsoever.
If you open the file in Premiere, you should be able to right-click on the clip in the Project window, go to Interpret Footage and select the correct PAR of 1.333.
The problem is that the standalone version of AME does not have an "Interpret Footage" option to override PAR assumptions for AVI files, etc. that are added to queue. This is a good idea for a feature request for future versions of AME.

  • Unable to play Cineform avi files in Premiere Pro CS3

I am using Cineform NeoHD version 5.3.2 to convert the MXF files from my Canon XF300 into Cineform AVI.
Then I import these AVI files into Premiere Pro CS3 and here is where the problem begins.
Premiere is unable to play these Cineform files. All I get is about a second of audio, and a still frame of the video. This happens both in the source window, and also on the timeline.
The Cineform AVI files play perfectly fine when using Virtualdub for playback, but Windows media player behave just like Premiere.
Everything worked fine a week ago. Premiere appeared to use something called "ffdshow" to play the Cineform files, and I could edit without any trouble.
A few days ago, when I tried the same, that's when the problems came. Whenever I hit Play button in Premiere, a popup window came up, saying Premiere wanted to use ffdshow, and the options was "never", "no once", "yes once", "yes always".
When everything worked a week ago, I had to use the "yes always" option.
Now, it does not matter which option I use, Premiere will not play the Cineform files.
I did not make any changes to my computer between the day everything was okay, and when the problem appeared.
A Cineform representative suggested "ffdshow" is the troublemaker, so I uninstalled ffdshow and removed any traces of it I could find, but the same problem still exist.
    Then I uninstalled Cineform NeoHD
Uninstalled and reinstalled Production Premium CS3 suite
    Reinstalled Cineform NeoHD
Still same problem, nothing has changed.
It does not matter if I use 50i or 25p source files.
    My system: (Laptop)
    Windows Vista ultimate 64-bit
    Intel 2,66GHz quad core CPU
    4GB ram
    Nvidia Geforce 8800M GTX
3x internal 7200rpm harddrives set up with raid-0
    Anyone else experiencing this?
Any ideas what might be wrong?

dont know , but this stuff might fix your prob.. overwrite whatever ffdshow screwed up...
    cfrepair utility:
    http://www.siliconimaging.com/DigitalCinema/SiliconImaging_support.html
    cineform codec (neo player)
    http://estore.cineform.com/NeoPlayer.aspx
never used the cfrepair thing..but did install neoplayer which gave me the codec to use cs3 with cf raw files ( sample of cf raw at the si 2k site -- avi ext )
ps.... to keep overhead down on my computer I took the resulting cineform "player" out of my startup directory....as it wants to run in background when you install it...no need for that for my purpose of just getting the codec

  • How to install CineForm AVI Codec for CS6 and CC2014

I have installed Premirere Pro CS6 as well as CC 2014 and GoPro Studio [Free] / [all latest download on 2 Apr 2015] .
    Operating System Windows 8 Pro - 64bit
i have failed to see and use Cine Form AVI option for export for intermediate conversion. What i can do is under Format - Quick Time / CineForm RGB 12 Bit and YUV 10 bit only. nowhere i can find the CineForm AVI option.
any assistant will be appreciated a lot.

    Dear Todd_Kopriva
thanks for reply, i have already sorted out the matter by reinstalling the product under Adobe Directory. [before it was installed in Adobe CS6 / Adobe CC directory].
i need to export files to AVI format and not Movie [Quick Time] format. that is the reason i need AVI codec.
    Thanks again

  • Elements imports Cineform .avi at wrong duration

After importing 21 Cineform .avi files to Prem Elements11, 4 of them showed up in the Project Assets at the wrong duration. For example, a 9'33'' length clip appeared as 2'24''. In each case, roughly the first quarter of the clip is there, but the remaining three quarters is gone.
Is anyone aware of a fix for this?
Cineform .avi files are created by the Cineform Studio software supplied with GoPro cameras. Prem Elements can handle the camera's raw MP4 files fine, but the Cineform software is essential for flipping clips recorded when the camera is upside down.
As an alternative, could anyone recommend a file converter that can flip GoPro raw MP4 in batches and convert them to a file format that Prem Elements can handle?
In my case, the original GoPro footage was recorded at 1280x720 and 50fps. In Cineform Studio, I flipped the clip and output it to .avi at 1280x720 and 50fps in high quality. I'm running Windows 7.
    Thanks.

With all of us not being able to get back into adobe.com or the forums, I started to write replies in Microsoft Word so that I could copy/paste further comments the minute Adobe got things working again. The following is what I got done so far...
The Cineform.avi issue is a known one which is not unique to Premiere Elements.  The extent of my information on this problem and are detailed in this thread. GoPro’s denial about working with that user is not understood. It was a good idea to seek a second opinion from GoPro.
I would encourage you to try to import the video (.mp4) direct from the camera rather than go the conversion to Cineform.avi. If you want to export your .mp4 Timeline to Cineform.avi, that is another matter.
    Considerations...
Your project settings and export settings may be factors in your report of “sub-par” .mp4 files in Premiere Elements. When you talk about “even after rendering the .MP4 files”, are you referring to render as in Timeline rendering to get the best possible preview or render as in the export sense of the word?
Here we should make sure we are OK with project preset versus properties of the source media, H.264.mp4. Are you letting the program automatically set the project preset based on the properties of the source media. If so, don’t. Set the project preset manually. The following link gives the general how to for a manual setting of the project preset.
    http://atr935.blogspot.com/2013/04/pe11-accuracy-of-automatic-project.html
You may be working with a 1080i30 project preset if you are letting the program make the call. We could discuss how to edit HD 4:3 footage in Premiere Elements with all the HD sets 16:9.
As for the fisheye effect correction. True, you cannot do that in Premiere Elements. But there are programs that can, including many versions of Photoshop.. Have you read the following thread
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1282151
What you  want to do with the Timeline...edit the 960p and export it as what...960p or other, with or without the fisheye?
At another forum I worked with a Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 user and his GoPro footage (he loved 960p) and got magnificient results.
I will be traveling until this coming Monday afternoon. I will try to check into the threads daily, but my replies may not be delayed somewhat. Hope not.
    More later.

  • No Sound When Converting to Cineform AVI with Adobe Media Encoder

I've found that I totally prefer to convert my AVCHD files to Cineform AVI, it looks great and is much easier to edit for sure! I did it using the trial version of Neoscene but found I can do it via Premiere and the Adobe Media Encoder. so, I tried the later two.
When I first tried with Neoscene I didn't have sound with the converted files. I tried to trouble shoot this in a couple of ways that were suggested online. The thing that finally worked was downloading and installing some ac3 thing...
When I later converted using adobe media encoder it didn't have audio. I can't seem to find a resolve anywhere for this. It does however have audio if I do it through Premiere. But, that would be a tedious process to convert a lot of files through premiere, it would be profoundly easier using the media encoder.
So, does anyone know how i can fix this?

I haven't posted on the cineform website, I assume they want people to straight up buy their stuff and prefer people are ignorant to the fact they can do it through AME for free (provided they already have it). It's convienent for them that it is broken, encouraging people to buy their software... (assuming they think like this;).
I don't know what HDLink is... I don't know what you mean by "the AC3 thing" either...
Thanks for the prompt posting, I would love to know how to resolve this!!!

  • Output to Cineform AVI

I use Cineform AVI as an intermediate, and have been unable to get SpeedGrade to successfully export a Cineform AVI.   The output file is complete gibberish, and the audio drops out after roughly 4 seconds.
Here are the settings I am using:
And here are the settings from the main Output screen:
    Automatic Color Calibration: unchecked
Write ALE file to output path: unchecked
    No burn-in
    No calibration look-up table
    Render annotations: unchecked
    Flash burn-in for: 0
    Full Image: No Proxy
    1:1 square
    Same Size as Proxy
    Online Quality
Any help would be appreciated!  Thanks.

    Hi there,
the updated statement is correct: SpeedGrade should read Cineform files fine (and did so in the past). Rendering to Cineform is something that's not supported yet - feel free to add this as a feature request on adobe.com

  • Premiere crashes when opening GoPro Studio cineform AVI files

First off, I'm a newb when it comes to video editing.  I just purchased Premiere Pro on a month to month basis to compile a bunch of vacation footage I took on my new GoPro.
I used GoPro Studio to edit the raw footage into hundreds of useable clips.  I took the videos in 1280x720 @ 120fps.  I used the default settings to trim the footage.
Any idea what I can do to get Premiere to open these files?
note:  I can open the original gopro footage without issue.

Yes I did try creating a new project using the software only option, to no avail.  The GoPro Studio was downloaded and installed only 2 days ago.
I could Convert all the clips again since the project is still saved.  These are my "Advanced" options when on Step 1 - View & Trim:
    Image Size (source)
    Frame Rate (source 119.88fps)
File Format (AVI, or MOV) - there is no MP4 option
Quality (low, med, high) - med is default and what I used previously
    Remove Fisheye (unchecked)
If I was going to transcode the clips using another codec, which software would you recommend?  I'd ideally like to keep the 120 fps because I plan to slow a lot of them down.

  • Adobe Media Encoder bug with Cineform .avi

I encoded an HDV m2t file to Cineform intermediate in Sony Vegas. I added that file to Adobe Media Encoder's render cue. No matter what export format I choose, AME fails to recognize the source file's pixel aspect ratio of 1.33:1 and produces a horizontally squashed image.
Even the source window incorrectly shows the file as having a PAR of 1:1. Premiere Pro CS4 won't load the source file properly. I can import it into AE CS4. From there, I exported it to the same Cineform intermediate, and then it works fine in AME.
Why can't AME and Premiere Pro recognize the proper PAR in the Vegas-encoded Cineform file?

I'm not even sure if this qualifies as a "bug". The only thing at issue (if I understand correctly) is that AME is failing to recognize the PAR of the file. AFAIK, there is no "standard" for flagging PAR in AVI files (aside from DV footage, which can have simple boolean 16x9 flag).

  • No audio after Cineform avi import into Premiere Elements 7

I cannot get any audio when I import AVCHD from a Canon HFS10 that has been converted by Cineform Neo Scene to AVI.  I've tried several combinations:
Canon HDV30 HDV converted to Cineform Neo Scene AVI --> import to PE7 - Works fine
Canon HDV30 HDV converted to Cineform Neo Scene AVI --> import to Windows Media Player  - Works fine
Canon HFS10 AVCHD   --> import to PE7 - Works (but very slow, just a dual-core computer), has audio
Canon HFS10 AVCHD  converted to Cineform Neo Scene AVI --> import to Windows Movie Maker - Works fine
Canon HFS10 AVCHD  converted to Cineform Neo Scene AVI --> import to PE7 - No audio
Canon HFS10 AVCHD  converted to Cineform Neo Scene AVI --> import to PP CS4 - No audio
    Anybody have any suggestions...?

    Steve,
I agree with you. Back before complete compatibility with AVCHD by most NLE's, Neo Scene showed promise, but there were issues. Now, both PrE and PrPro have native support for the AVCHD material, so there are no compelling reasons to rely on Cineform for this.
If one wants to convert from full HD AVCHD to SD, this is most effectively done in camera at Capture. There are several alternate workflows, and if necessary, or useful, I'll post links to Dan Isaacs' workflow instructions.

  • Consolidate and Transcode in Cineform workflow: A great feature... if it worked properly .

    Hello,
So my company recently acquired 17 licences of Creative Cloud teams, we were all very excited for the new 2014 features and capabilities of Premiere Pro CC and the new cineform codec workflow, plus all the connection between video apps on Cc..
Although it doesn't seem the most important feature, for us, the Project Manager on the presented cineform option of Consolidate and Transcode is a Big Deal for updating and preparing for archive older projects.
But the thing does not work, and its warnings and results are anything but clear or functional.
    Example 1:
A full HD project 1920*1080 progressive 25pfs, mixed footage of apple ProRes and Quicktime Animation. Go to consolidade and transcode > sequence > quicktime > match source goPro Cineform :: FAILS..
    Example 2:
Full HD project 1920*1080 progressive, mixed footage of Quicktime H264 (full hd) and RED 5120*2700, fails.. same error...
    Example 3:
Full HD project, mixed footage 1920*1080, progressive jpeg sequence + MFX with fields.. fails.. same error..
IF INSTEAD of choosing "match sequence" i choose "match individual clips" sometimes it works partially but some MXF´s are not converted (premiere does not say why on the Events panel) and those are copied in all the original format. It does not makes much sense.
Now i can go on and on.. giving more examples.. Trent Happel, on a similar post here, explained that this error appears because the selected Format (my case Cineform) does not support the combination of frame size, frame rate and field combination.. Wish is ridiculous because its failing transcoding, standard full HD resolution, with or without fields, or experimented different fps and quicktime´s, MFX´s , Red´s or even sequences..
EVEN when i create a preset (based on cineform or any other) most of the time it fails.. and if a transcode a individual clip (that Premiere Manager was failing on examples described above) in its own solo sequence timeline (just that single individual clip), ironically it gives no error.. so what the heck is happening??
So now.. the company is really happy.. happy they are on the 30 day full refund period, for 17 licences bought based on a workflow adobe promotes, but fails consistently on real world application.
    Help if possible is appreciated

I'm having issues similar to the original poster.
When I first saw "Consolidate" when it was released I was very pleased, but when I dug into it and found I HAD to transcode I became quickly frustrated.  I don't want to transcode the footage.  In my case, most of the time all my footage is already in the codec I want.  And if for some technical reason I have to transcode, the Project Manager will not see my ProRes Preset under Match:Individual Clips, even though it will see it under Match:Sequence.
Trent, while I understand your explanation of Match:Sequence v. Match: Individual Clips, it doesn't work as advertised.  I have a simple, single layer sequence in Apple ProRes HQ, and all the clips are also ProRes HQ.  When I run "Consolidate and Transcode"/Match:Sequence on it, I get full copies of the source, not trimmed clips.  I may as well have run "Collect Files and Copy."  When I attempt to run "Consolidate and Transcode"/Match:Individual Clips, it won't recognize my ProRes imported preset, so I get trimmed clips, but at a lower resolution.  That's not acceptable.
So now my single layer 1:20 sequence (no audio) that should have about 2.5 gigs of footage "consolidates" with 52gigs of source material.  We are needlessly filling up archive drives with gigs and gigs of unnecessary footage because Premier wouldn't, and now won't properly, consolidate projects.
If I'm missing something please let me know, I've lost another half inch of hairline on this one.

  • Is Cineform still being used?

Given the capabilities of CS6, are people still feeling the need to use Cineform as opposed to editing natively?
My normal workflow has always usually consisted of first encoding my files (P2 and Red) into the Cineform codec and then editing, but it's a step I'd love to drop if I could.
I could also test out native editing, but I'm just wondering what the community is doing. Thanks.

I've never used Cineform for P2.*  P2 is handled very well, natively, all the way back to CS5 (or was it CS4?).
I use Cineform (GoPro Studio) for two things:
First, and most crucial, is preparing any acquisition format that uses 32-bit quicktime.  Using Cineform gets me around the 4GB RAM limitation of using the 32-bit process. Compared to their 32-bit Quicktime originals, Cineform AVIs edit like butter.
I also use Cineform to prepare AVCHD files from consumer/prosumer camcorders, unless I'm in a crunch and can't afford hours of transcoding just to start editing.  I believe I take a small quality hit when I don't convert.  Maybe it's only psychological.
    * Prior to CS4, I was using Sony Vegas and a helper application (Raylight?) to edit P2.

  • Speedgrade Importing Cineform files

    Hello,
Does Speedgrade cs6 support file import of Cineform  AVI files on Windows?
    Thanks,
    Leo

    Thanks for the confirmation Manuel.
So I think I figured it out. Believing now that the problem must be with my transcode settings, I went back to Adobe Media Encoder and noticed I can now set the format of my presets to CineForm AVI.  Previously in 5.5 I was only able to use AME to encode to CineForm by creating a preset with the format set to AVI and the codec set to CineForm.
Re-encoding my clips they now open in Speedgrade. Yay!

  • Free video transcoding

I received an e-mail a few minutes ago announcing a free site where you can upload up to a 20GB file and they will transcode it to any one of quite a few formats.
    http://www.freeencoding.com/
It is associated with Videoblocks.com which I happily subscribe to.
It didn't like the MOV files from my all I-Frame codec (encoding failed), so I tried changing the extension of an MTS file (which it didn't recognize) to .mp4 and uploaded it, asking to have it encoded as a MOV file.
I don't know if this is a handy web site, almost completely usless, or what? It allowed me to save the converted file to my dropbox folder which I thought was rather interesting.
The conversion to MOV seemed to work, or I thought it did, but my Quicktime player didn't like it much. I had to download some plug-in or other. I don't really know what it did but it eventually played it.
I then tried a different MOV file (not all I-Frame) and it failed to convert also.
I find the concept of a free conversion site interesting, but I can't quite wrap my head around the usefulness of it.
    What do you think?

    True Jim to some degree.
Certainly when I was trying to edit AVCHD footage in its early days transcoding was the only way, until Edius was released in a form that could edit the native footage easily and as usual it was rock solid, at the time Premiere was useless.
The only way I could use Premiere was to use Cineform avi's, I did try as many free transcodes as I could but Cineform was by far the best at that time.
A few years later and we still have AVCHD issues with Premiere, sad
