Transcoding in Prelude CC Problem!!

Hello - Prelude CC newbie here, but I need some help as soon as possible.
I'm using prelude to transcode AVCHD files from an SD card to ProRes for use in Premiere. When I use the Ingest menu to select clips for transfer and transcoding, when I select my clips and attempt to check the "transcode" box, the box and text is gray and I cannot click it. What is the reason for this?
Thanks!   -jeremy

Hi Jeremy,
Have you enabled Transfer clips to Destination option like below?
Also, hate to state what may be obvious, but you will need make sure Adobe Media Encoder CC also installed and function well for this to work.

  • Prelude Ingest problem

I recently purchased CS6 Production Premium and am totally new to it. I decided to have a look at Prelude. I ingested a 16 min video file and played around with various buttons etc. trying to make a short clip. I did not save the project changes. When I opened the video in Premiere Pro, and looked for the original file in Media Browser,it only showed a 2 min clip, and not the full 16 mins. The same thing happens when I open in Prelude. I can play the original file in Media Player etc in it's entirety.
I cannot understand what I have pressed to cause this.It would appear the the file has somehow been altered but only when viewed in Adobe programmes.
As soon as I get a chance I will be looking at the tutorials but feel the answer to my question will not readily surface.

    Hi Michael
Thanks for your interest.Happy New Year.
This was my first time in Prelude.
I looked around for how to import a file and came to the conclusion that “Ingest “ was the way.
Navigated to my 16 min video and clicked it to ingest.
Once it was in Prelude, on the left side, I highlighted it and dragged to the Monitor panel. At that point I could scroll through the whole video no worries.
I recollect that I scrolled through to 2.27 mins and clicked the icon marked Go to Object end.
At least I think that was it
When I open Prelude now, I cannot see that icon at all, only the monitor section.
I have just tried it again after deleting previous project and it only ingests a 2 min clip even though the one I navigate to is 16 mins long.
I cannot seem to get the left screen I had before with the Object icons on it, only the Monitor screen.
If I use Windows Explorer to get to my 16 min video it has a file size of 3.38G and a time of 16mins showing.
I cannot see how the original file of 16 mins imports as a 2.27 min clip.
Sorry I cannot be more explicit but I was not expecting this sort of problem so did not take that much notice.
It has always been my understanding that the original file remains intact and that I am working on a imported copy to edit.

    Brian

  • Importing issue with Prelude/AME

I usually use three cams:  GH4 (MOV) and AF100 & HMC150 (AVCHD).  I primarily shoot 1080p23.98 but occasionally shoot 1080p59.94 for slomo.  I prefer to transcode to ProRes because I find editing much faster, and sometimes I need to pass on footage to other editors who are using FCP7.  problem is, I can't seem to setup a ProRes preset in AME that simply keeps frame rate "same as original" when setting up ingest & transcode in Prelude/AME.  to complicate things further, with the GH4 the MOV files are only seen in the Prelude ingest window as "File Directory" so I'm not even able to show a frame rate column and sort the clips that way to determine the transcode setting relative to each clip.  I also have no way of transcoding my GoPro 720p119.88 footage to ProRes as the highest frame rate option is 59.94.  is there a way to enable "match source frame rate" in AME somehow that I am missing?  maybe I should just file a feature request?

We were in the same situation (11.5.9) about 6 months ago. We found that EBS is not able to support that (we use Cybersource to get the autorization code). Also Cybersource recognizes the authorization request from different systems differently and will just try blocking the funds (though physically this is same request from customer perspective).
We were moving from oracle (old instance) to new instance in Oracle (for reasons specific to client).
We had a date of go live so what did is this: We stopped taking the credit card orders 30 days before (approval code exprires in 30 days in our case). We tried fullfilling the existing orders as much as possible.
For the remaining orders, we had to reauthorize again the let the customer know.

  • CS6, Ikegami MXF NOT Supported In Prelude & AME With Plug-In Installed?

    Hi all,
The curse of the Ikegami MXF strikes again!  Just installed CS6 including all of the latest Adobe updates which are so far so good.  I love a lot of the new features though I haven't  had much of a chance to get to any nitty gritty editing at this point. I am especially excited about Prelude!
I also purchased the corresponding latest version of this plug-in:
    http://www.mainconcept.com/products/apps-plug-ins/plug-ins-for-adobe/t otalcode-cs-5-6.htmlhttp://
...which allows PPro to package the Ikegami MXF files for import through the Media Browser.  I assumed the plug-in would translate to Prelude and AME as well to ingest/import Ikegami MXF properly.  Initially I tested it only in PPro, which was successful, and went back today to perform various transcode tests in the hopes of having to only purhcase one pricey plug-in license rather having to purchase three in total.  Unfortunately Prelude does not seem to recognize the plug-in...Here's a screen shot of the media browser in PPro vs. Prelude.
I also attempted to import straight into AME to attempt an Ikegami transcode.  I was pretty positive that method would not work, and I was correct.  AME crashed when a single Ikegami MXF video file was imported.
Please tell me this is an issue/bug? that can be fixed! Or my enthusiasm that Prelude will be the solution to my CatDV/Ikegami incompatibility will be deflated...I really don't want to be forced into a situation involving the tedious workflow of exporting/transcoding individual Ikegami clips out of PPro to be used on our other two editors and/or having to battle with a tightening state bureacracy for money to purchase two more expensive Total Code licenses...

    Zac,
I have contacted MainConept per your request, but I will also mention here that I have not been able to re-create the AME crash as noted at the start of the thread.  Total Code does work was promised within AME, but Prelude is still left hanging.
While Prelude does not provide video previews/playback/scrubbing of Ikegami MXF like the Media Browser in PPRo does, it will sucessfully transcode, what appears to be a video only file, into a sucessful self-contained video clip with the appropriate associated MXF audio.   The successful transcodes from Prelude led me to believe that to some degree Prelude recognizes the Total Code plug-in even though the key feature of Prelude, video playback, is inaccessible.  Though this quote from MainConcept says otherwise.
"What made you thinking that the TotalCode Importer probably was used because you were able to export Ikegami footage from Prelude is caused by the case that Prelude deals with pathes for that purpose. It doesn't need an importer for that."
I am hoping to utilize Prelude at the start of every edit session to selectively edit which files from a camera media card, including Ikegami GFPaks, will be copied/transcoded to their final storage location prior to editing, as Prelude is designed to do.
Another Prelude observation is that user presets created in AME, including some created using third-party plug-ins like UT and GoPro Cineform, are accessible in the transcode options within Prelude, while any Total Code based user presets created in AME are not visible in the Prelude transcode options.
I have a good feeling that now this conversation has been initiated bewtween the three parties that a solution will be reached! Finger crossed!
    Thanks again,
    Lindsay

  • *Sigh* :(  Transcoding issues.

    Howdy all,
Firstly, I would greatly appreciate anyones help.
Me and my colleagues have been working on this project
and problem after problem we have figured out by ourself,
but this problem has seemed to stump us all -
We are creating a project to be built into a DVD. After finally finishing it,
we tried to burn it to disc, it did that successfully. However, there was a
'squeaking'/'static' noise throughout all the audio. (except the intro.. that was a song)
To solve this, we simply imported the video/audio seperatly.
Most of the items are imported sequences from premiere pro, we have the cs4 suite.,
and also Avi files that were exported.
The video in perfect quality, except for when there is movement. Whenever someone moves
there is a slight blur that follows them. I have tried time and time again to transcode the main footage,
encore does,  transcode it, but only the video, then it continues onto the audio and, because we seperated it
and imported it individually, there is no audio, and encore just keeps saying its still transcoding.
So the problem that we face now is,
    1. Encore will not transcode the main footage..
    2. The quality of the footage is great, except when burnt to disc,
then it is greatly depreciated (must be because of the transcoding settings?)
    3. I thought that perhaps ignoring the transformation of the main footage
and just building it to disc, would do something, after mucking around with the settings..
Encore replied saying that the project is now too big to fit on the disc, which is ridiculous
I realise that you kind members of the community will need more infornmation on this,
so please, just ask for what you need and I'll supply it to the best of my ability .
Me and my colleages have been sitting at the computer for a week now scratching our heads.
I thought it would be around time to ask the pro's
Thank you so so so much for any help / infomation. I really need it
    Kind regards,
    Luke & Larissa.

    @Stan Jones
    Thanks for your responce.
The video that we first imported before seperating them was just a basic PrPro sequence.
The video used in that project was Mpeg-2 and the audio was 48000hz stereo 16bit.
Once we seperated them, we imported the video as a PrePro sequence, and
went to into PrePro and exported the audio as an Avi file and imported as an asset, which seemed to fix our first
problem of squeaking and static in the built DVD.
    @Jeff Bellune
    1. Yes, we reverted to original prior to transcoding again, we also went to the transcoded folder and deleted
    the transcode files.
2.The PrePro sequence settings are DV Pal Widescreen 25fps
    3. The transcode settings we last tried using were set to custom with the following setting
    For movie files:
    MPEG2-DVD
Pal DV High Quality 4 MB VBR 2 Pass
All other setting were left as default
    For Audio
Same settings as for video with Dolby Digital
We are just self taught and really just guessing what transcode settings to use so if we should be using something else please advise.
    @Bill Hunt
Thanks for the info, we'll be sure to try these settings.
Thanks for all your responces, we are going to follow stan's advice and try a whole new project first.
If there is anymore problems we'll be sure to post them here, thanks in advance.

  • Interrupting Importing and Transcoding....

I put some clips on my project and now Background tasks is telling me that Importing media is at 65 % and Transcoding and Analysis is at 3%.
I have to go away now, so I wonder: if I close FCPX and reopen it tomorrow.... will it resume this process and bring it to completion?

Interrupting transcoding is not a problem, but you should not interrupt importing. Generally it's not a good plan to run analysis or transcoding on import, especially if you know the process will have to be interrupted. I suppose you can't leave it when you go away.

  • Newbie to Adobe Prelude CC...help please.

I've always used FCP7's Log and Transfer to transcode my AVCHD footage to ProRes 422 to edit on my 2011 iMac. But now I'd love to start using Adobe Prelude instead, if possible to ingest/transcode footage to edit on PrPro CC. I have a few questions...
When transcoding, I see I can rename the clips, but it appears to only give a couple things to pull from the metadata in the renaming process. FCP's version allowed for dozens of naming options. My questions...
    1) Is there a way to somehow use the time the clip was shot in the renaming? That way all the clips will be in order regardless of which card they were shot on (all cards have the same numbers starting with 00000.mts as their files names so naming by time would be a great way to order my clips chronologically. I see "date" and "file name" but is that it really for things I can pull from the clip?
    2) How do I access the ability to transcode into ProRes? I don't see that option. I see Quicktime, but no ProRes options like I do when I'm using Adobe Media Encoder.
That's all for now. I'm sure I'll be back to learn more.
    Thanks.

    Michael!
Thanks for adding my requests to your "list". I really hope to be able to use Prelude one day to take care of transcoding effectively.
Here's three more things I think are important for Prelude (#2 is a new question about transcoding with Prelude):
    1) As I said before, Shot Time would be vital for renaming. I see within Prelude that the metadata display when looking at clips shows "Shot Date" already (see screenshot). While I think Time is more important in my case since events are all shot on the same date, at least you know that Prelude is reading this info correctly from clips:
    2) Another thing I haven't mentioned is how Prelude ingests and transcodes clips into ProRes. Maybe you could help me with this but if I have an SD card filled with hundreds of short clips at various frame rates, how can I transcode them and keep them in their native frame rate? Right now, there's a big list of ProRes options as you see below but they all have set frame rates and resolutions to transcode the footage into. Going one by one would take SOOO long...
How can I transcode and keep the native frame rate and resolution if the entire card is filled with shots at various frame rates/resolutions, etc?
NOTE: With FCP7's Log & Transfer window, you simply select which level of prores you want (see screenshot below) and when it transcodes it keeps ALL the shots at their native framerate, resolution, etc. See here where AVCHD's option is simply to transcode to the level of ProRes you want (eg. Proxy, LT, 422, HQ) and that's all:
Any ideas on this??? Is Prelude really built for doing things like this? It seems great at pulling in clips you want and marking them and writing notes, etc. but for transcoding should I just stick with FCP (at least for now)? It seems using Prelude to transcode is similar to using Compressor to transcode with FCP instead of FCP's built in easy "Log & Transfer" workflow. Prelude just uses Adobe's version of compressor, AME.  Like I said before, it would be great to handle all my ingesting, transcoding & renaming, editing, exporting and burning within the Adobe suite.
    3) Finally, this is just a little detail, but when scrolling side-to-side within the INGEST window, everything goes the wrong way. Normally, when you swipe right with your mouse, the screen scrolls to the right, but ONLY in that ingest window does it do that backwards on both the file directory list and any list of video clips. Is that supposed to do that? Just curious.
Thank you again Michael! I eagerly await your responses!

  • Prelude makes multiple copies on ingest

I am a producer/director trying to speed and ease workflow and story development by using Prelude to ingest video files we've shot. I hope to do the initial organizing and rough cut and then hand off to my very experienced editor for the "good stuff".
i download the raw files to a drive, duplicate that and then, when I'm ready, ingest those folders into Prelude. Problem I'd some of the files (only AVCHD)  are duplicated up to 10 times when I ingest. I am mystified.
the obvious thing to do is delete extra copies but what the heck are they there for in the first place? What am I doing wrong? Nothing about this in documentation that I can find.
    Many thanks
    Dan

    Hi Dan,
    Thanks for the extra details.
From the first screenshot I don't see any duplicates. Well, I should be more precise... I see duplicated file names in the project panel, but each name has a unique start Timecode and duration. This leads me to believe they are indeed different file. I cannot see the entire Path column so cannot be 100% about this, but if you expand the width of the File Path column you may see that each duplicated filename is actually pointing to a different location on disk.
A note about how Prelude ingests folders with sub folders. And I'll admit this is certainly a short coming in the product we need to fix. When you import a folder and it contains sub folders with clips in those sub folders, Prelude's Project Panel hierarchy will not replicate the sub folder hierarchy found on your disk. Instead, it will flatten all media file paths on ingest and put all references into the same BIN. I believe this is what you are seeing and why you thought there were duplicates being made. In reality I think there are no duplicates, Prelude is creating a flat organizational structure in the Project.
Some possible steps to help your re-order the assets into meaningful BINs in Prelude:
In the Project Panel click on the column header for the FILE PATH column. This will sort the contents based on that column. Now you can select all the assets from a particular day's shoot and drag-drop onto the new BIN icon at the bottom of the Project Panel to move those assets into a new BIN that you can name to match the day's shoot. I know this is far from ideal but it should save you time compared to starting your ingest over again folder by folder.
Let me know if I'm missing anything here.  Adobe is shut down for the holidays (Dec 20 through Jan 5). Feel free to ask me other questions and I'll do my best to catch them in email. However I am traveling for the holidays and may miss it. If that happens (ie you don't hear back from me before Jan 5), please ping me again.
    Thanks,
    Michael

  • Aliasing In AVCHD Footage, Not In FCP7!

    Hi,
I'm working with some AVCHD 1080p Footage in Premiere CS6. I made the move away from FCP7 hoping I could get high quality results in Premiere.
    However...
In both "natively editing" and via Prelude Ingesting the AVCHD to ProRes422, the footage is Aliased (a.k.a. Jaggies). Both in the Program Monitor AND after Export.
However, a side-by-side comparison to the same footage Log & Transferred in FCP7 shows that the FCP7 footage is not Aliased! Same settings. The files are the same size, and the same Data Rate. This only happens in the Adobe Workflow.
In my Media Encoder settings, I have tried both Maximum Render Quality and Render At Maximum Depth. Neither of these make a difference.
The footage is also set at Progressive 29.97. Quality 100%. Square Pixels 1.0.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
Here is a 100% size screenshot of the two clips opened side-by-side in Quicktime. Have a look.

    -Carl.

So you're taking your original progressive AVCHD content that hasn't ever been transcoded by prelude or anything else and pulling it straight into premiere now right?
Okay so if I'm understanding correctly you now tried  to make a progressive sequence then place your progressive footage in the timeline then export it as progressive from Premiere pro's progressive timeline?  Then after you do this is it messed up in both VLC and Quicktime? If you have done this just for fun I'd like to have you just use the upper field first sequence you said it creates you and try exporting to both progressive and upper just to see if this changes anything.
Also when you right click the clip in your footage bin and click "modify>interpet" what does it say the field order is (next to "use field order from file" or w/e)
I just want to be sure I am understanding you. However If you could please upload a very small portion of the original .MTS  AVCHD footage you're using that hasn't been altered for testing purposes that would be great I'm intrested to see for myself If I can find/reproduce the problem you're experincing.
I haven't ever seen this occur before unless some sort of setting is incorrect somewhere.   (Except when I have scaled something but even then there is always a workaround. )

  • P2 ingested footage with wrong date created metadata

Hello, we're trying to standarize all of the media for our systems. Part of this includes ingesting P2 footage using Prelude and encoding it as DVCHDPro quicktime files. I know that the recommended method that adobe gives for ingesting P2 footage is to keep the file structure in tact and use the media browser function of Premiere; this, however, doesn't suit our company's needs of maintaining a relativaly NLE-agnostic media library and having quicktime compatiable discrete video clips of all our media. We're using Mac OSX operating systems, by the way.
The problem is that, when using Prelude to ingest, it seems that Prelude obliterates the "date created" metadata and file data (e.g. when selecting the "get info" on the clip itself; that file data). After ingesting a clip, if I open it in Premiere, there is no date-based metadata that matches the original record time on the .mxf file itself. Nor when I view the clip in OSX's "get info" does the "date created" panel reflect the date that the original file was created. It seems that it should be possible to write the original "date created" data to the ingested file (in the ingest panel in Prelude I can see the correct "date created" time); FCPX is able to do this when ingesting P2 media using their systems. Is there an option that I'm missing or is this simply not possible with this version of Prelude?
To illustrate: here's a screencap of the ingest panel in prelude, notice the "date created" column reads 2013-06-28T11:43:05; which is the correct record date of that clip:
However, after I ingest the clip, both within Premiere and the "get info" panel in OSX, the "date created" now refers only to my import time:

Thanks both for your responses. I checked the .mxf file "date created" and it is indeed empty (see picture).
The "date modified time" however, is correct. I do understand that when dragging media directly from the media browser in premiere that the metadata displays correctly; what I think should also happen is that when the footage is ingested and transcoded via Prelude, it should also display correct metadata. As shown in my pictures above, prelude does indeed see the correct "date created" (wherever it gets that information); it just obliterates it after it transcodes the clip; it's not available either in the "get info data" (which, somehow, FCPX does do when importing P2 media through their system) nor (most strangely) in premiere. Any settings or changes that could be made to address this would be appreciated.

I am having trouble with aliasing artifacts when using my AVCHD camera.  Has anyone been able to overcome this with imovie?

  • Pemiere CS 6 doesnot support P2 ?

I want to confirm that Pemiere CS 6 doesnot support P2 mxf files.
Yesterday I installed CS 6 and could not get a CS 5.5 project to play correctly. It kept getting out of sync. This project worked without issue in CS 5.5. The video files that have issue are P2 HVX 200 DVCpro50 720p24PN, it is important to note it was the Panasonic "native" video. Interesting DVCpro50 files 1080-60i play well.
I made a test project and linked many different types of files but still had issue with the 720p24PN files. I even tryed to transcode to a Quicktime with media encorder and had the same problem. Playing the footage in the Premiere media browser, importing it, playing it in the source window and finally playing it in a squence had sync issue with video and audio.
My workaround was to transcode in Prelude. Amasingly playing the same footage in ingest stayed in sync. Nexted I transcoded to P2 movie, with encorder in the background, sent the footage to Premiere and the footage played and worked great.
Please advise me if it is correct the P2 files do not work in Premiere CS 6.
    Thanks,

    Premiere CS 6

    Nvidia FX 4800
    8 gigs ram

That is good to here adobe is supporting P2
I have all adobe updates. For the last hour I have be installing Panasonic P2 software as stated below:
    Panasonic P2 drivers and software
Before working with P2 footage, download and install the P2 drivers and P2 support software.
They can be found at http://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/support/software.asp.
The drivers will allow the computer to access and understand P2 hardware, including the P2 cards
themselves. The support software, including P2 Viewer and P2 Contents Management Software
(P2CMS), will provide a substantial set of tools for working with the P2 card contents. (The Mac
version of P2 Viewer is included with P2CMS.)
I installed the P2 viewer and driver software and restarted.
I could not get the P2 contants Management Software to instal. This may be an issue although I do not edit from P2cards the all video files are mounted to media drives.
FYI I do have aja kona LE+ as the in-out box but the monitor video is following the premiere viewer window perfect.
    Thanks for the ideas.

  • Aliasing (aka jaggies) only in quicktime

Anyone else notice that when watching animations in quicktime, sharp edges have aliased pixels? VLC , and Windows media player don't give this issue, only quicktime. This happens on various codecs, h.264, sorenson video 3, and others. It doesn't seem to be a compression thing either, since I've tested small files, and 'animation' compression files.
Does anyone know why this happens? How to fix it? Or if apple is working on fixing this issue.
    thanks

  • Adobe Media Encoder error [..\..\Src\RenderFrame.cpp-199]

    Adobe Media Encoder error [..\..\Src\RenderFrame.cpp-199]
I'm trying to utilize Prelude to actually TRANSCODE some R3D material.  Since R3D clips are spanned, Prelude can 'reassemble' them.  (I don't understand why AME can't do this since Prelude uses AME... but...)
I get this error when trying to start the transcode in Prelude... any help out there?
    Thanks!

    Hi mboory,
Please mention the exact version of Media Encoder CS6 that you are using and also the version of operating system. Please check the below link as well.

  • Songs will play in iTunes but not play on iPod!

This is very weird. I have 44 songs that are not working right.
A few months ago I moved my music files to one central location on my computer (aside from iTunes). I wanted to get rid of duplicates and songs I just didn't want and more importantly I wanted to make sure the names were all correct.
Oddly enough the songs in questions I did not have to change.
I synced my new iPod to my iTunes. I played a few songs and when it got to 1 of the 44 it just skipped over it. I thought this was weird so I went through artists and found the song that way, I selected it again and it wouldn't play.
I tired playing the song in iTunes - the song played.
I found it on my computer - the song played in Windows Media Player.
Before I did all of this, on my old iPod - the song played.
In fact all 44 of the songs used to play and everything was fine. (I use my old iPod for my car and my new one for jogging, but I don't want to sync my new one until I solve the problem I just don't want to risk losing the songs)
So I looked in the iTunes files - there is a file known as "Not Added" within the "Automatically Added" File. The songs in question were in that file. Which is weird because I never had this problem before...I didn't change anything about these songs.
I took one of the songs out of the "Not Added" file and I put it in the Automatically Added file and it seemed to add it. I tried syncing againbut the song would still not play.
I tried moving the song directly to the iTunes "Music" File. It made its own file with the artist and all - it hadn't been there before. So I tried syncing again but it still wouldn't play.
Yes - I have plenty of room on my iPod
Yes - I have tried restoring my iPod
No - There is not a little explanation point next to the song - The song is located and it plays in iTunes just fine.
I am at a loss. Someone please help me!
    Thanks!
    ~Jess

Select the track that is giving you a problem, then go to Advanced menu and select "Create AAC". Then try using that new AAC track on the ipod and see if it works.
I had some tracks that I had gotten onto my system from a CD. It ended up that my CD drive as on its last legs and had captured the tracks with some errors.iTunes was able to play through these errors, but my iPod was not. Having iTunes re-transcode them fixed the problem that kept them from playing on the iPod. Another solution would be to re-rip the tracks from your original CD. If you bought them on iTunes, re-download them.
The bottom line is that the tracks likely have some errors in them that iTunes can play through, but the iPod cannot.
    Hope that helps,
    i
