Transfer applications from iPod

Here is the situation:
I have an iPod synced with iTunes on my home PC with WindowsXP.
Time to time I'm purchasing applications directly from app store using Wi-Fi at work.
At first iTunes was always asking me if I want to transfer my purchases
from iPod to iTunes library.
The answer was, obviously, YES TRANSFER.
At some point I got bored by this question and checked
"Do not ask again" option and, of course, selected "YES, TRANSFER".
However, after this, every time I'm connecting iPod with new purchases
to my home PC, all new purchases are DELETED from iPod.
I have to redownload applications and reinstall them on iPod.
Needless to say, that all the data belonging to those applications
is erases after this.
I cant find a way either to revert "Do not ask again" option,
or force iTunes to always transfer purchases from iPod to iTunes library.
iTunes options seems to be stored encrypted in an XML file.
At least I didn't found anything similar to options in registry.
Any ideas?

Don't worry about anything. The applications are stored under your account and on the computer, you can sync them on as many devices as you want.

  • Laptop crashed and how to transfer music from ipod back to laptop and won't transfer new purchases to ipod?

My laptop crashed about 2 days ago. I got it fixed and had to reinstall it. I had to reinstall itunes all over again. How do I transfer all my songs from my ipod including the ones that were from hardcopies and by hardcopies I mean cds I bought in real life and is on a disc. All of the songs are still on my ipod so how do I upload all of the songs and videos (purchases, music/songs from hardcopies/cds uploaded not bought from itunes, etc...?) How would I upload all of that back to itunes on my laptop? Another question is for some reason when I hook up my ipod to my laptop, I recently bought 23 songs about a day ago and it won't upload those purchases to my ipod, is it because I have all the hardcopies and downloads on my ipod that the itunes library doesnt have? Also, how would I sync my newest purchases to my ipod efficiently without deleting any of the hardcopies I uploaded before my laptop crashed?

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.

For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

Follow the instructions here or here; using the first set of instructions then requires syncing the second device with the iTunes library containing the content. If you want to transfer the game data as well, perform a backup and restore.

For the future, keep in mind that an iPod is not a backup/storage device. It is designed to be strictly a playback device. It is up to you to backup your personal data, including music, to a local, external HDD.

  • Is there any way to transfer photos from ipod touch (2nd generation

Is there any way to transfer photos from ipod touch (2nd generation & OS is 4.2.1) to PC? I am struggling a lot. The OS cannot be upgradable beyond 4.2.1
I am wondering if there could be many other ways to transfer the photos like:
    1. with the help of any android app
    2. ipod touch to iphone/ipod latest version
    3. any 3rd party free softwares (there are paid 3rd party softwares but I dont want to invest)
I did try some of the options:
    1. I could emailed only 6 photos in one email (I have almost 800 photos and would be time consuming.
    2. I'm trying to access my google account on my ipod but it keeps coming up with "oops! your browser seems to have cookies disabled..." My cookies are not disabled. Safari is the only browser for ipod touch and could not be able to installed not only any new browser but also any iphone apps. Updates for the existing apps not possible at all. So this option of uploading the photos on google drive is ruled out.
Anybody is there to help me out? Sorry for such a long inventory.
    Thank you!

If they are in the iPod' Saved Photos album then:
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
If they were synced to the iPod you need a third-party program like TouchCopy or PhoneView

  • Any way to transfer music from iPod to iTunes

I had to get new laptop and lost all my music from the iTunes I had on the previous lap top. Is there a way to transfer music from iPod to iTunes ?

Or you can do it the cheap way...
In the options screens, check "Enable Disk Use." Your ipod should then show up in your My Computer as a new drive.
In My Computer, go to TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS...>View [tab] and under "Hidden files and folders," choose to "Show hidden files and folders"
A new folder will pop up in My Computer's Ipod Drive letter called "Control" or something like that. You should be able to dig around in there and find a bunch of mp3s randomly named... Those represent your music files. Drag all the folders that have your music in it to the new computer's harddrive.
Now go into iTunes, "add Folder to Library," Choose the folder that you drug from your iPod and iTunes will import all your music as if nothing happened. Synch it up and it will transfer all this "new music" to your iPod, replacing the old music with the "new" stuff. You'll see... It's like nothing ever happened.
Please note that you'll lose your ratings and playlists... But honestly... Who cares??
    Happy transferring!

  • Transfer application from removed hard drive

After replacing a failing hard drive; I need to transfer applications from removed hard drive to newly installed hard drive.  What is needed to do so and what is the best method of tranferring applications?  Thank you.

So the drive that was failing s still working enough to mount, that's good. Purchase an external enclosure or a dock to mount the OS drive on the desktop. In your Utilities folder open Migration Assistant and select to migrate your applications "from another disk". Follow the prompts and let it do it's thing. MS Office applications haven't worked for me after migrating but a simple reinstall of Office took care of that. While you're at it you can also migrate any documents, photos or music from the old drive before it completely dies.

  • I'm trying to use migration assistant to transfer applications from my imac to macbook. Using either a firewire or network, as I'm waiting to select items to migrate, I receive an error message that "the application quit unexpectedly". My imac is newer.

I'm trying to use migration assistant to transfer applications from my newer imac to an older macbook (10.5.8).  I keep getting an error message "application quit unexpectedly" as I'm waiting to select the items to migrate.  I've tried using a firewire cable as well as just a network connection.
    Thank you.

    Here is some information:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4889
It mentions that migration is not supported with 10.4; now you said you have 10.5 - it may be the same problem. Besides, migration assistant will recognize an older system and move apps etc. over to a newer system - I'm not sure it will do the same thing in reverse.
And, there are a couple more problems: one is that your newer versions may not be backwards compatible with the old 10.5 and the second is that is you are trying to copy apps so you can use them on both, it most likely violates the SLA (unless you purchased them on MAS).
So, if none of those two apply, I'd simply try target disk mode (without the assistant) and drag over the apps.
