Transfer customized keyboard shortcuts to second Mac?

I have set up many custom keyboard shortcuts (both system-wide and for specific applications) in the Keyboard Settings panel. Instead of defining them all again, I would like to transfer these to a second Mac that I just purchased.
I assume this would require copy & paste from a plist file in Preferences - but I couldn't find the right one. Any ideas?
Thank you!

The application specific shortcuts are most likely stored in the applications plist file.
Have a look in com.apple.systempreferences.plist for the system wide ones.
If that fails use the trick arthur wrote above.

  • Custom Keyboard Shortcuts Not Working In Layer Style / Blending Options Dialogue Box (Mac OS 10.6.8)

In the Layer Style / Blending Options dialogue box, my custom Keyboard Shortcuts to zoom in and out of the image is no longer working. Cmd+opt+shift+1 acts as cmd+1 (jumps to Drop Shadow), and cmd+opt+shift+0 acts as cmd+0 (jumps to Stroke). Outside of this box the commands seem to be working fine.
Example 1: Create a new RGB document, cmd+j the background layer, double-click this layer to open the Layer Style / Blending Options dialogue box, mash Cmd+opt+shift+1.
Result 1: The dialogue box shift focus to the Drop Shadow Options instead of the image zooming in to 100%.
Expected Result 1: The image should zoom to 100%.
Example 2: Create a new RGB document, cmd+j the background layer, double-click this layer to open the Layer Style / Blending Options dialogue box, mash Cmd+opt+shift+0.
Result 2: The dialogue box shift focus to the Stroke Options instead of the image zooming to “Fit on Screen”.
Expected Result 2: The image should zoom to “Fit on Screen”.
This same thing happened in the CS5 Beta, and it was quickly fixed, so I hope this is not a complicated issue.
Thanks, and keep up the wonderful work!

  • Mac Mail custom keyboard shortcuts won't work

I'm using Mac Mail, trying to set keyboard shortcuts to set flags
    - I goto preferences/keyboard/application shortcuts
    - click on "+" to add shortcut
    - specify Mail shortcut in dropdown menu
    - add 6 different shotrcuts OPT/CMD-_ (where _ is: L S V F R P)
    - when I added the shortcut, i was very careful to make sure the MENU TITLE of the shortcut in  OS-X preferences paine is the same as the
Then, in Mail app, reading a message, I press the shortcut (ex: OPT/CMD-L), and the flag is not set

I'm having this exact same problem with Mail.app on Mavericks, and my workaround is exactly the same.  Doesn't it sort of defeat the whole purpose of keyboard shortcuts if I have to grab my mouse to expose the relevant menu?!  Very frustrating.  Does anyone know how to either 1) find a better workaround on our end or 2) convince Apple to fix the problem?
#2 seems unlikely since custom keyboard shortcuts is probably a pretty rarely used feature...

  • Custom keyboard shortcuts and editing multiple layers in Flash CS4

    Hi, all -
CS3 -> CS4 transition newb here who's getting increasingly frustrated with the new motion tweens; however, for this project, I'm working in a 3D space and require using them, so I'm dealing with this bit by painful bit. I found the tip about Split Motion, but first question: how do you apply Split Motion across several layers at the same time? I have six different tweens, and in CS3, I used to be able to shift-click or click-drag across frames and apply a command to all of them (for example, hit F5 to add frames), but Split Motion is requiring me to right-click on each and every layer. This is really laborious, and I worry about future animations that might be more complex.
Similarly, I tend to add custom keyboard shortcuts to each of my Flash versions for commands I use frequently and don't want to right-click a menu for (such as "add motion tween") - however, I can't seem to find where to create a custom shortcut for either that, or Split Motion.
Any and all help would be appreciated as I muddle through this. Honestly, guys, I WANT to like the new version and there's so many added features, but it's hampering my workflow so bad I want to pummel it with sticks.

    Hey there,
I definitely hear you about Split Motion. There is an enhancement request for supporting multiple layers, and adding it as a keyboard shortcut. The first one is tricky, but the second one is not. I think there was hope that splitting motions wouldn't be necessary much (especially since you have to be careful when doing so when eases are involved), which is why the eventual need for more functionality related to split motion was realized a bit late in the schedule.
Now regarding other operations, such as you mentioned F5 to insert frames - that and other operations (inserting certain types of property keyframes, F6, and so on) work just fine.
You can apply a shortcut to Create Motion Tween in the custom keyboard shortcut dialog.  Not all operations in the program are available though (most context menu items aren't), which is why unfortunately why we don't see Split Motion yet.
It might be possible to avoid Split Motion though with another workflow. What are you using the feature for?  Just curious in case I can help.
    Jen.

  • Custom keyboard shortcut to merge cells in Numbers?

How do I create custom keyboard shortcut to merge cells in Numbers? The instructions on the support site say to open Keyboard in preferences then click the +. I don't see a plus anywhere. On any menu.

The Merge Cell command does not have a keyboard short cut.  You can, however, add one to your user space as follows:
Open System Preferences, then select the keyboard panel:
On the left click the "Application Shortcut" then on the right select Numbers.  now click the "+"
Now enter the exact name of the menu item "Merge Cells" (by looking up the name of the menu item in the menus of Numbers), then selec the "Keyboard Shortcut" field and type the exact key combination you want to use.  Be sure it is unique from other Numbers key combination.

  • Custom keyboard shortcuts for Liquify and Vanishing Point filter interfaces in Photoshop CS4?

Is there a way to set custom keyboard shortcuts for Liquify and Vanishing Point filter interfaces in Photoshop CS4? When I change my keyboard shortcuts preferences for Photoshop, they don't change for these filter interfaces. Is there another way?

    what is the problem ??
I tried to change the shortcut for the Vanishing Point and Liquify from
Edit -> keyboard shortcuts(button) -> keyboard shortcuts (tab) -> filter (tab)
and you will find these filters :
double click on it and make a new shortcut
but it MUST be Ctrl + (any letter) or you can make it Ctrl + Alt + (any letter)
but if you made it just one lettre like S for example
you will can't make a shortcut.
hope I understood what you ment ???

  • Safari 5.1 customized keyboard shortcut not working

I've just updated safari on snow leopard and my customized keyboard shortcut: go to next/previous panel (ctrl -> and ctrl <-) don't work anymore even if i set them in my system preferences

I'm also experiencing issues with custom keyboard shortcuts not working after the update to Safari 5.1. I had no problems with the previous version of Safari.... I wish I had not updated.

  • Create custom keyboard shortcuts

    1.  How do I create a custom keyboard shortcut so that I can toggle between two fonts, say, or two keyboards (English and Greek) quickly within a single document....
I am trying to make the switch fm msw to pages, but I cannot for the life of me locate these options.

    Feature unavailable for the fonts.
If you have only the two keyboard layouts available, there is a shortcut defined at system level to switch between them :
    command + space

While we're at it, is there also a tool which lets you bind mouse keys to act as a combination of keyboard/mouse keys?
E.g. I want to bind one of my mouse keys to act like Alt+Left mouse button (so I can use it to drag windows).
    Is it possible?
I have only ever used imwheel for tasks like that.
That almost works. Thing is I can't somehow "tell" imwheel to keep the simulated buttons pressed until I release the real one.
    What a shame.

  • Moving/copying custom keyboard shortcuts

    Hi,
I have PremierPro CS5 running on a MACBook Pro. I have created a load of custom keyboard shortcuts and basically want to copy this file over to another edit machine I work on.
    is this possible!.
    thanks in advance
    Russel

Yes, I'm aware of these keyboard shortcuts to move the cursor around and for selecting text. But I want to move the actual paragraphs around. So if I have 5 paragraphs, I want to use keyboard shortcuts to more paragraph 3 in front of paragraph 1. Not by selecting the text, cutting the text, moving the curser, and pasting the text.
In OpenOffice I could set a keyboard shortcut (CtrlShift^) to move the current paragraph above or below the surrounding paragraphs. Is this possible?

Hi I'm looking for some keyboard shortcut that are Mac but I want PC. Here they are:
    ATL + shift + l
    ATL + q
    ATL + a
    ATL + shift + e
    ATL + z
    ATL + x
    ALT + SHIFT + g
    ALT + SHIFT + f
they are for mac I them would like for pc... Thank you

Ah, thanks. Goes to show how carefully I look at keyboards these days...
So Opt(alt) on the Mac should map to Alt on PC.
It would actually be helpful if the OP told us waht the shortcuts were meant to do...
And there's always the help files. A complete list of default shortcusts is at http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/default-keyboard-shortcuts.html

  • Safari's "Email this page" keyboard shortcut opens second Mail.app

    Hello,
First of all, neither the Safari toolbar button nor the File > Share > Email this page work at all. Both do nothing. Quitting Safari & Mail has no effect.
    HOWEVER
The keyboard shortcut (command + shift + I) does work, but it opens another instance of Mail.app. There is only one version on my mac.
Any thoughts on that? I can't seem to find anybody else with such wierd behavior.

    Try resetting the LaunchServices database.
Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to the state it’s in now.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Copy or drag — don't type — the text below into the Terminal window:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain user
That's all one line, though it will scroll on this page. Triple-click anywhere in the text to select it all.
Press return. Log out, then log back in.

  • Why does Lightroom not have custom keyboard shortcuts?

Lightroom is a workflow app. It's not just about raw conversion, which could be done in ACR, but about speeding up the whole process of selecting, editing and cataloging photos.
It seems to me that out of all Adobe apps, Lightroom is the one which should have customisable keyboard shortcuts.
I've been using lightroom since shortly after it came put and I've been using the open-source plug-in keyboard customizer Paddy for several years which works okay at the moment. Each lightroom release breaks Paddy in some way and it's not as smooth as it could be if it was built in. Even so, I estimate I'm 2-10 time faster editing many photos with paddy than I would be without.
I know that even adobe's resources are limited, but adding keyboard shortcuts should be easy, certainly compared to re-verse engineering RAW file formats or fixing complex lens distortions!
At this point it seems clear that Adobe are choosing not to let us customise keyboard shortcuts. I'm not trying to change their mind, but I really want to know w
It perplexes me, why don't Adobe add what seems liek a simple feature which could speed up Lightroom use by an order of magnitude???

On Victoria Bampton's website she has a downloadable PDF file named "Adobe Lightroom 5 Windows Keyboard Shortcuts." (Windows, not sure about Mac). Its about 12 pages long. I assume that this is what you are looking for. www.lightroomqueen.com.

  • F Keyboard shortcuts disabled on Mac OS 10.5.4 in Indesign CS3

    Hi ,
I have this same problem with My Mac Laptop at Home and my Mac at work. The default F keyboard shortcuts no longer work. For example, if I wanted to bring up the paragraph styles panel which is F11 I get the volume control for the Mac. I have tried a couple of obvious fixes such as using a modifier key as suggested in the Indesign help menu and going to the system preferences of the MAC and disabling each conflicting shortcut. Neither of these approaches worked and I still get a volume control when I want a pallet or in the case of F7 (layers pallet) nothing at all.
Any suggestions short of creating my own shortcuts?
    Thanks

Um, this is the Windows forum. Even if you are running on parallels or Boot Camp, you'll probably find more help for Mac configuration problems on the Mac side.

  • Custom keyboard shortcuts disappearing; more frequent in 10.4.7

I assign a good deal of keyboard shortcuts through the Keyboard preference pane. Very handy shortcuts like 'Zoom' to CommandShiftW, reassigning switch tab in Camino, and an iTunes 'Shuffle' shortcut to Command+S.
This is great, but periodically these shortcuts are lost when I return to the pref pane to add another shortcut. Once I load it up, none of my shortcuts appear, as if I had hit the 'Restore Defaults' button. It's hard to reproduce, but it's definitely very annoying, and has been occuring more often after I've updated to 10.4.7.
I know that these shortcuts are kept in .GlobalPreferences.plist and in the .plists of the respective applications, but I don't think I should have to backup these files and then overwrite to restore my settings.
Again, I don't see any definite triggers for this, but it does happen somewhat frequently. Does anybody else have this problem? Or perhaps some suggestions?
    1.33 12" iBook G4 10.4.7   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    You're welcome.
Will Techtool Deluxe (part of Applecare support) work
or is it only Techtool Pro 4.0.4?
I don't know. It would depend on what the problem actually is and on the capabilities of the utilities you have. As long as you don't use something that's not appropriate for your system, you can try it. There is no way for me to know whether you're going to be able to solve the problem by using a particular utility.
If I do have to do the zero and reinstall how do I
make copies of installed programs which came with my
computer but are not on the restore disks.
I don't understand. If they came with your computer, you should be able to reinstall them using the Mac OS X Install disks. The Install disks that came with my iMac G5 certainly include AppleWorks.
You can verify this by proceeding to reinstall the system without actually doing all the steps, just those necessary to be able to customize the installation and check that all the applications that came with your computer appear there as an option, then cancel the installation.
I am not talking about the
documents which I do have backed up.
Well, not sure what you mean by "documents", but if you're going to erase the disk, you should backup your entire home folder first, not just the documents. You're going to lose all your mail in particular if you don't backup the ~/Library/Mail folder before erasing the disk.
