Is there a way to transfer DVDs to itunes/ipod?
im trying to transfer my Michael Jackson's Visions dvd to my ipod touch. i know you can buy it in itunes, but i don't want to rebuy the movie just so it can be put on my ipod touch. i wanted to see if the imovies app would work but it seems to just be for mac.
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991 -
I am presently using software called podmaxx video to transfer DVD s to my ipod. Since upgrading to the latest
versions of itunes I have been unable to transfer movies to my ipod. The process locks when it gets to the copy part. Has there been something put into itunes to prevent the copying of movies other than movies copied from the itunes store? If so this is a conspriracy.I am presently using software called podmaxx video to

I am not familiar with the podmaxx software, but I do know that DVDs encoded with Videora iPod Converter using an H.264 CBR profile transfer with no issue to my 5G iPod via iTunes 7. Apple did make changes to the the supported video resolutions and profiles in the last firmware update for the video iPods, however these mainly increased the resolution that could be used... anything that worked before should still work now.
I would reset the iPod and make sure that I was using the latest firmware.

How do i transfer DVD files to my Ipod? What are the best programs to use?
I have an annoying time trying to get DVDs onto the Ipod. I can't help but think why Apple didn't make it easier to do this. Does anyone know how to get DVDS into the Ipod and what are the best conversion programs?
The iTunes/iPod ecology is designed to make it hard to use the iPod for casual copyright theft, but extracting your data is eminently feasible.
You should be able to recover the media with the tips in this post from forum regular Zevoneer. Data in your apps is potentially at risk but you can probably transfer your purchases into a newly authorised library, backup the device, recover any other media using third party tools, then restore the device from the backup. That should switch the assocation of the device to the new library but I've never needed to test the method so I can't say for sure.

How do I transfer DVD's I have at home to my iPod?
I am interested in buying an iPod video and wanted to know how to transfer DVD's to my iPod; any advice?
Thanks,
Linz
Windows Windows 2000A 3rd party converter such as Videora will do the trick.
If you go over to the iPod video forum here http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=808 and do some searching, you'll see this is one of the most faq. -
how do you transfer a dvd to your ipod(video)?
Welcome to Apple Discussions. Try following this link which explains how to do it with free software http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/guides.html
The above link has invalid link for the DVD Decrypter software, which can be found at
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/videosoftware/dvd_rippers/dvddecrypter.cfm
If you decrypt any video, make sure you own it first, and be aware that in certain countries this is illegal. -

Their Mac tutorial helped me figure this out. Hopefully the PC version is just as helpful.

What's the best Mac app to copy movies from a DVD to the iPod Touch?
So let's say i have a DVD and i want to make a copy of it and use an app to transfer it to my iPod Touch, what's the best way of doing this?
I heard of Handbrake and Videora, are they any good?
EDIT: I am using a Mac (OS X)I use DVD decrypter in rip my DVD's to .vob, which is the same format the movie is on the disk
and then use Videora to convert to .mp4 with ipod touch codecs and high resolution
most end up being 900MB to 1.5GB -
Transferring videos from DVDs onto the iPod
Is it possible to transfer a Movie from a DVD onto my iPod. If so, how? I have tried, but it doesn't work. Do I need to change the type of file that the video is? I have a 5th Generation iPod Video 30GB, but I will be getting an iPod classic 80GB soon.
I am afraid copying a movie DVD to iTunes would be illegal if you look at the copyright notice on the DVD. It would involve breaking the copy protection and it is against the forum terms of use to discuss this.

Hey,
I've installed Videora iPod Converter and I know how to convert videos but its the DVDs im having problems with.. if anyone knows how to convert DVDs with Videora please respond.. and I've heard about the DVD Decryptor but it is now illegal.. so I need another way to put DVDs on my Ipod..
Please Respond..DVD Decrypt version 3.5.4.0 is a good one (I've tried a couple) to decode. That plus videora and you're good to go. The actual site address is in a thread under the topic "transfer dvd to ipod" in response to ravara (me) stating could not download due to a lot of these sites are now charging..so someone gave me the links to these two free (DVD Decrypt and Videora).
GOOD LUCK.

I have two DVDs (concerts) that I want to get onto my new iPod. My first attempt indicated that you could use Quicktime Pro to move videos to your iPod. However, now I'm finding that it may not be the case since these are "commercial" DVDs - which Quicktime doesn't seem to support.
Is there any way to take a commercially purchased DVD and transfer it to your iPod using Quicktime (or anything else for that matter)?
Thanks.I cant believe there are still people out there who believe that Quicktime can rip DVD and transfer to iPod. When the G5 iPod first came out, I was thinking the same thing and wasted 30 bucks on Quicktime Pro 7 which does no s* at all. And I went to this forum, I found the products that people passing around that actually work. The first one is called DVD Decrypter for ripping DVDs. And the second one is Videora iPod Converter which is for converting the ripped files into appropriate ones in order to play on your iPod. But the bad thing is, I couldnt find the website that offer those two products (sorry). Maybe you should look around the forum for a while. Or try on download.com.

Hi i was just wondering could someone please help me. i don't know how to transfer my dvds to my ipod. can it be done? and if so how? much appreciated thanks
Clicking on the add file to library, within the File option of iTunes, should bring up a window to search for the file. If it does not, perhaps you should try rebooting the computer. When the window does popup, you will find the Videora videos under C:\Program Files\VideoraiPodConverter\Videos
