Transfer dvd to ipod

how do you transfer a dvd to your ipod(video)?

Welcome to Apple Discussions. Try following this link which explains how to do it with free software http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/guides.html
The above link has invalid link for the DVD Decrypter software, which can be found at
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/videosoftware/dvd_rippers/dvddecrypter.cfm
If you decrypt any video, make sure you own it first, and be aware that in certain countries this is illegal.

I am presently using software called podmaxx video to transfer DVD s to my ipod. Since upgrading to the latest
versions of itunes I have been unable to transfer movies to my ipod. The process locks when it gets to the copy part. Has there been something put into itunes to prevent the copying of movies other than movies copied from the itunes store? If so this is a conspriracy.

I am not familiar with the podmaxx software, but I do know that DVDs encoded with Videora iPod Converter using an H.264 CBR profile transfer with no issue to my 5G iPod via iTunes 7. Apple did make changes to the the supported video resolutions and profiles in the last firmware update for the video iPods, however these mainly increased the resolution that could be used... anything that worked before should still work now.
I would reset the iPod and make sure that I was using the latest firmware.

  • Step by Step guide to transfer movies to iPod - using PC

I am looking for a step by step guide to transfer movies to my iPod... i have a PC and need to transfer DVD movies to my iPod. i know that there is a process, somewhat tedious, but i cannot find instructions anywhere on the steps to do it. i purchased quicktime pro and i know that i need to decrypt the DVD (??) and rip (??) the files to my harddrive, then convert the .vob files to .m4v using something like Videora (??). I just am not sure about the actual steps. Please help!!!

Trying to help. I think you will find that any answer that gives directions here on Apple <might> be a contravention to agreements regarding licensing abp from Apple therefore your directions (and efforts) would best be spent on 'another search engine' for an answer to that question. Note that I am simply respecting Apple's position and the fact that movies are not free to rip or copy them for any reason outside of licensing agreements.

  • How to Put DVD on iPod??

The sole purpose of getting my new iPod (I previously had a mini) was to watch movies for this summers long plane rides. Lo and behold, i'm have many difficulties putting the movie onto my 60GB white iPod. Any way/tips that can help me?

There is at least one way on each operating system (windows and mac) to rip your own dvds and then transfer them to itunes and finally put them on your ipod. A mac is the easiest of the two ways. If you have a mac, then you download a program off of the web called handbrake (just "google" >handbrake rip dvds< and its homepage should pop up. Handbrake allows you to copy and convert your dvds to ipod format. On a windows operating system the most effective way i have found to rip my dvds is quicktime pro ($25-$35). It basically does the same thing as handbrake. I, myself, have simply converted some videos, like sports shows and commercials, to ipod format using itunes and both the video and audio worked fine.
if you have any ?'s just reply back
    I hope this helps!

  • Convert DVDs to Ipod touch

Hi, Can someone give me details of any software I can use to transfer DVDs to my Ipod touch? I just want something really easy and simple to use - I simply want to transfer them straight to the ipd I don't need to edit them or do anything fancy with them. I am using a Mac computer running OSX
    Help is much appreciated.

Do you mean DVDs you've made yourself or commercially released DVDs? If you mean commercially released films or TV shows on DVD I'm afraid that can't be discussed as that involves breaking the encryption on them. Such discussions are against the terms of use. "Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.":

Afraid they don't have anything to replace DVD SP. Your alternatives are Adobe Encore (which is EOL) or Toast, or IDVD (which can still be found in boxed sets of iLife).
But getting back to DVD SP and your data transfer, what do you mean by that? What exactly did you do and what happened with the application? I'm running it on 10.7 and it works, but it's from the FCS3 suite; is yours FCS2?.

  • How do you put dvds on ipod

I want to know the easiest way to transfer dvds on my ipod for free. It seems kind of complicated. I just need some step by step instructions if anyone is willing or has the time to share these steps with me. I would appreciate it greatly.

It depends if you want a free program or not. I read alot of posts here before I made my decision.
I spent $30 on a program from cucusoft.com called DVD to iPod converter (I didn't need the Suite version as I only wanted to do my DVD's) When I loaded the program I had an issue with my antivirus and Spy Sweeper but I truly believe it was my computer not their program and I have all working in harmony, just had to recover and load a few programs but the program is one click easy and I've done 18 and all are perfect. I only changed one thing and that was crop mode to Stretch to fit to get full screen and not widescreen, everything else is default. Its just a tad faster than real time, an hour and 38 min movie took 1 hr and 25, and a 45 min tv show took 40 min. but my PC is not top of the line and is a year old. I set mine up to convert when I'm gone or sleeping. I'm very happy with it. You can get a trial version but it will put a watermark on what you convert but you can see how easy it is.
Try out some of the trials for the purchase software before you make your decision.
Just saw the other post but I think handbrake is for Mac users not Windows but correct me if I'm wrong.

  • DVD to iPod issues (or: why does my iPod hate me?)

I recently discovered HandBrake, and find it amazing for ripping DVDs to watch on the computer, using iTunes or QuickTime Player. Transferring to the iPod, however, seems to be a whole different animal.
I have generated MP4 files with HandBrake, using the two available codecs (MPEG-4 and AVC/H.264). When those wouldn't transfer to the iPod, I converted them with iSquint, using H.264 encoding to see if that would make a difference. Still no luck. Finally, I used the "Convert selection for iPod" function within iTunes. No dice.
The error messages I'm getting each time are:
"Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod because your iPod software is too old. Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Update to get the latest iPod software update."
"[video file] was not copied because the video format is not supported by the iPod."
Seeing as how I'm on my third 5th-generation iPod (the first two suffered from constant-freezing syndrome after updating to software version 1.2), I'm not keen to update again anytime soon.
Why do the MP4 files I generated not transfer to the iPod, yet a couple other MP4s I have downloaded transfer just fine? When is an MP4 not an MP4?
This is exactly the sort of headache I was trying to avoid when I switched to Mac.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
iMac 17" Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   30GB iPod with video (software ver. 1.1.2), iTunes 7.0.2

I just got my Video iPod this week and I'm new to ripping DVD's and such so I'm no expert, but I had to chime in on this one because the same error message you got about the video not being supported by iPod just happened to me today. I was following the instructions on the how to's of using HandBrake I found on iLounge.com. It gives a caveat at the beginning not to start ripping DVD's until you know that the settings you've chosen actually transfer and work on your iPod. This warning was helpful to a newbie like me because I would have assumed that if I can play back the mp4 I just ripped on my computer then the iPod should be able to handle the file. As you know, there are different settings to allow for different video/audio quality in HandBrake. In my case, the first title I ripped looked pretty decent. Transferred it over to the iPod and it worked really well. Using the same exact DVD and mp4 format, I was just experimenting with settings, seeing how far up I can go as far as video/audio quality and when I chose settings that, in combination, were too high, that's when I experienced that same message you received about the video not being supported by iPod. In my case, what I did was I re-ripped the same DVD title, just went down a notch in the audio settings and left the video settings alone and that made my mp4 file iPod-compatible again. If you used the same exact settings for ripping all your DVD's and some worked and some didn't, then I'd say you have another problem all together and maybe someone with more experience will jump in to assist you. Hope this helps...

  • Comparison for iPod Users: Free Online Converter & DVD to iPod Converter

Compare two channels of obtaining video sources for iPod: one is using online converter, the other is DVD to iPod Converter. After the general introduction of the two methods, I will analyze their advantages and disadvantages for you to choose according to your need.
Part One: Enjoy YouTube (online videos) on iPod
Instruction: a useful website to convert online video freely: http://www.vixy.net/
For vixy, you can just copy the URL of the online video into the “URL” blank of the vixy, then choose the format you want to convert to. Click “Start”. For a short time, the conversion will be finished. You can click the “Download the converted video” to restore the file.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/vixy.jpg
Advantages: Free online video converter. No software to install. Only a few clicks you can get the converted file after a short while. The most important thing is that online video sources are numerous and original, so you can get the first-hand sources in time through it. Some personal DVs are also shared with you.
Disadvantages: They set limitation of the length and size of the video. The classical movies usually are not on line available. Even if existed, the quality of image and sound is inferiors.
Part Two: Enjoy DVD movies on iPod Touch, iPod Nano, iPod Classic, iPhone, iPhone (3G), Apple TV
We usually bought classical DVD movies for collection or regular watching later, but DVD cannot be copied directly into iPod for us to appreciate it at anytime and anywhere. On this occasion, we need to convert DVD to the format, video and audio settings (Resolution, Bitrate, Frame Rate, etc) supported by your iPod player.
Instruction: the way to convert DVD to iPod: using Aiseesoft DVD to iPod Converter http://www.aiseesoft.com/dvd-to-ipod-converter.html
Install and run Aiseesoft DVD to iPod Converter
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/download/dvd-to-ipod-converter.exe
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/screen.gif
Step 1: Click “Load DVD” button to import your DVD
Step 2: Use “Profile” drop-down list to choose your output format.
Step 3: Click “Settings” for setting your video parameters.
At last click “Start” button to start your conversion.
    More tips:
    1. Merge into One File
If you want to merge the selected contents into one file you can check the "Merge into one file" option. As default the merged file is named after the first selected file (either a title or a chapter)
    2. Movie Effect
You can set the brightness, contrast, saturation of the video and volume of the audio.
    3. Trim Movie
It can help you to capture the segment of your movie.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/dvd-to-ipod-thread-trim.jpg
    4. Crop Video
You can remove black edge of your DVD movie and get any playing area of the video by using its "Crop Mode" function. You can also select "Zoom Mode" to extrude your video slightly to adjust to your portable devices so you can get the best video quality.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/dvd-to-ipod-thread-crop.jpg
    5. Take Snapshot
It allows you to capture your favorite pictures from your movie.
Advantages: In this way, you can make full use of your DVD: not only in DVD player, but your iPod player. The function of effecting and trimming allows you to clip the segment of the DVD movies complying with your will. You can enjoy more movies taking full advantage of your spare time while relaxing or traveling.
Disadvantages: DVD movies are usually popular, lacking of individualization. You can not share others' DVs.
With these two ways, we can enjoy the pleasure videos bring to us as much as we like. Have fun!

Depending on what update your iPod is, you may need
to dowload YAMB to make sure the videos play well on
your iPod. If you are watching a converted video on
your iPod and it freezes suddenly and this problem
continues, you need to download YAMB and convert the
files already converted with videora iPod converter
with YAMB, this will only take a few minutes.
I hope this helps you out.
Nope. All that a person with that problem should have to do is just update their iPod firmware to 1.1.1 with the newest updater, as that issue has been resolved in the latest firmware.

  • Laptop crashed and how to transfer music from ipod back to laptop and won't transfer new purchases to ipod?

My laptop crashed about 2 days ago. I got it fixed and had to reinstall it. I had to reinstall itunes all over again. How do I transfer all my songs from my ipod including the ones that were from hardcopies and by hardcopies I mean cds I bought in real life and is on a disc. All of the songs are still on my ipod so how do I upload all of the songs and videos (purchases, music/songs from hardcopies/cds uploaded not bought from itunes, etc...?) How would I upload all of that back to itunes on my laptop? Another question is for some reason when I hook up my ipod to my laptop, I recently bought 23 songs about a day ago and it won't upload those purchases to my ipod, is it because I have all the hardcopies and downloads on my ipod that the itunes library doesnt have? Also, how would I sync my newest purchases to my ipod efficiently without deleting any of the hardcopies I uploaded before my laptop crashed?

phonefans is a spammer, ignore his posts.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):
