Transfer elements 8 to new iMac

While attempting to transfer my Elements 8 program from a 2006 iMac to my new 2013 Mac, it looks like the new one will not run elements 8. Can this be true? Do I have to buy a new version of Elements, or is there a way to transfer my program?

I don't see a reason why it will not work. But this brings up the question of what you mean by "transfer". If you mean "copy the files from one computer and paste them on the other," then this will not work. This copy action will not get all the files required. Instead, you should be reinstalling using the original installation media (disks or download).

  • Using Time Machine HD, can I transfer applications to new iMac

I have been using time machine to an external drive for 3 years. I'm going to buy a new iMac in June. When I transfer data etc. using the TM external drive, will it transfer my applications? Many of my apps were downloaded and I don't have discs. Where can I get info on what will and won't transfer if needed.

Did you ask a sales person, or a Genius?
Even the Geniuses don't get a lot of training on such things, and/or may have misunderstood.
Your existing default and ILife Apple apps won't be transferred, unless you've moved them (bad idea).
Other apps you've bought from Apple, and 3rd-party apps will be transferred, but as noted, some "complex" apps may not have everything they need.
    See these Apple articles:
[How to use Migration Assistant to transfer files from another Mac|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4413]. Note: there isn't a separate Apple article for Setup Assistant, but it's similar, and what you want to use, not Migration Assistant.
[Intel-based Mac: Some migrated applications may need to be updated|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1963?viewlocale=en_US] applies to both Migration Assistant and Setup Assistant.
The web page in my earlier post links to this one for details: [Using Setup Assistant|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/SetupAsst.html]. Note the screen shot where you can select or omit Applications.

  • HT201250 Using time machine/ external hard drive to transfer data to new iMac?

I just purchased a new iMac and do not want to use migration assistant to transfer all the data from my old iMac to the new iMac.  Does anyone know if I can just connect my external hard drive that was used as a Time Machine to the new computer to be able to access all my old data?

Yes, you should be able to do that. Visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ should you need help.

  • Transfer Mailboxes to new IMac

I just bought new iMac. I am transferring data from the old one. I have linked the two with a Firewire. I transferred the iPhoto Library, the iTunes Library and all documents. But I cannot transfer the contents of the old Mailboxes. I found the mailboxes on the old computer OS X > Users > username > Library > Mail > Mailboxes > Messages
However, when trying to copy to the new computer, I am stopped after >username. "Library" has a minus sign on it. So do Desktop, Documents, Movies, Music and Pictures. If I click on "Library" I get the message "could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges." I am the administrator and sole user of this computer. When I bought it this morning, I entered just one password.

You can use the Migration Assistant.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25773
Or if the old Mac is running Tiger, quit the Mail.app on the old Mac and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail.
Copy the Mail folder and with the Mail.app quit on the new Mac, place the copy of the Mail folder at Home > Library on your new Mac. If there is an existing Mail folder, this will replace it.
On the old Mac, go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. The com.apple.mail.plist file stores all account information and general Mail.app preferences. Copy the com.apple.mail.plist file and place the copy at Home > Library > Preferences on your new Mac. If there is an existing com.apple.mail.plist file on your new Mac, this will replace it.
Launch Mail on your new Mac and it should be identical to the Mail.app on your old Mac.

  • Launching Win.Migration Assistant on Win.7 laptop to transfer files to new iMac

I downloaded Windows Migration Assistant to my Win.7 O/S laptop so to transfer files to a new imac. The program is downloaded but when i enter "run" it won't launch. Also it is connected directly by ethernet to my new imac and both are on the same modem router system. The imac doesn't recognize the laptop. Anyone out there who may know what the problem is? Maybe there are too many virus or spyware blockers on my Win. 7 laptop(?)

Shut down the machine, connect it via wire to the Internet modem, restart, and use the Setup Assistant to transfer from your other, but unidentified machine. See Pondini's Setup New Mac guide for details. Trying to do anything wirelessly is an exercise in futility, since it's the slowest of all transmission devices.

  • Run windows migration assistant on laptop to transfer files to new iMac

Would there be too many firewalls or virus protection to not allow the migration assistant to deploy... it's loaded on my Win. 7 laptop, but won't run so i can transfer files to my new imac. Thankyou for any suggestions.

  • Transfer data to new imac

    Hi,
I have an imac that is a couple of years old but have just bought the new model. Could someone tell me the easiest way to transfer all my data across to the new computer and then how to blitz the old one to clean it all up and make it like new.
    Thanks
    David

If your old iMac is Intel then the easiest solution is to use Migration Assistant. This option will be provided in the Setup Assistant that will run as soon as you start up the new iMac.
You can erase the hard drive on the old iMac and then do a fresh installation of OS X.

  • Best way to transfer files to new iMac?

I'm trying to transfer files from my PowerPC iMac running Tiger purchased in 2005 to a new iMac running Snow Leopard. I've heard some reports that using migration assistant on a Tiger-to-Snow Leopard transer causes some problems. Is this problem widespread? This sounds like the easiest method for transfering files, especially since I have almost zero experience transferring libraries and user accounts manually. But I don't want to do it if there's a chance of files being corrupted. I'll also have to purchase a Firewire 800/400 cable, but that's no big deal since I'll probably need it for other hard drives anyway. Any advice?

  • Trying to transfer data to new imac using Pondini

Just bought a new iMac and I'm trying to use Pondini's instructions to transfer my old 10.5.8 data to Lion using Firewire.
On the new iMac, when I select Transfer from Another Mac, it doesn't give me a Firewire option.  It only gives me a wireless option?
    Help??
    Thanks in advance,

See > How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode
To use FireWire target disk mode
Make sure that the target computer is turned off.
If you are using an Apple portable computer such as a PowerBook or MacBook as the target computer, plug in its AC power adapter.
Use a FireWire cable to connect the target computer to a host computer. The host computer can be powered on.
Start up the target computer and immediately press and hold down the T key until the FireWire icon appears. The hard disk of the target computer should become available to the host computer and will likely appear on desktop. (If the target computer is running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, you can also open System Preferences, choose Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. Restart the computer and it will start up in Target Disk Mode.)
When you are finished copying files, locate the target computer's hard disk icon on the desktop of the host computer and drag it to the Trash or choose Eject (or Put Away) from the File menu.
Press the target computer's power button to turn it off.
    Unplug the FireWire cable.

  • Photoshop Elements freezing new iMac Alum 20"

I know a lot of people have noticed freezing with Leopard in general but we have tied it to Photoshop Elements.
    New Alum 20" iMac.
After initial install of Leopard we experienced no issues with freezing. The computer was running great.
Then we installed PhotoShop Elements (latest version bought < 1 month ago) and then the computer wouldn't last 20min without freezing. Removed Photoshop and reinstalled. Still Freezing. Stripped out Photoshop and computer is now running fine for the last 24hr.
Anyone experience this? We need to get photoshop back on the system but I'm not willing to risk continuous freezing. Anyway to trouble shoot this further. I'm curious if its the Adobe Bridge application, the update utility or PS itself. We also noticed a drop in performance of IPhoto once we installed PS which returned after PS was removed.
I'm defining freezing as No keyboard input, the mouse is responsive and moves but unable to click on any buttons. The only way to recover is to force the computer to shutdown with the power button.
Mainly looking for any troubleshooting techniques for handling such a problem.
    Thanks Mark

PS runs fine on my Mac under Leopard, but I've yet to launch Bridge since the update.... Have you used Bridge yet? I think it isn't compatible with Leopard, but PS is completely Leopard compatible........

  • Transfer CS4 to new iMac via Time Machine

I used Time Machine to rebuild my drive onto my new iMac 27" (Intel Core i7) running OS version 10.8.2. I got "Code 150:30" when I tried to open my Photoshop (CS4). I downloaded LicenseRecovery 11.6.1, but the app failed to open. What next?

Receiving Code 150:30 lead me to the following Adobe link...
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/error-licensing-stopped-mac-os.html
This Adobe page provides an app (LicenseRecovery 11.6.1), supposedly designed to reinstate a licensing issue. When I opened the file, and tried to open the app that's suggested on this page, the program hung. I assumed the app hadn't been updated for Mountain Lion.
Wouldthis app address the issue if it had worked?

  • Transfer info to new iMac?

I just purchased a new 27" iMac, which I will get in January. How do I transfer over all the information from my present iMac to the new one?

Rather than use migration assistant, another approach is to manually transfer just what you need (from your identity on your preexisting mac) and then reinstall your applications. That way, you don't inadvertently transfer corrupted files and you start with a fresh slate on your new Mac.
You can start up your old mac with the T pushed down, engaging Target Mode, and plug it into your new mac with a Firewire cable. To your new mac, your old mac will just look like a hard drive. Then, you select the folders on your old computer you'd like to be on your new one, and simply slide them over.

  • FCP Log and Transfer Crashes on new imac

    Hey Guys,
I just purchased a new intel imac. I'm running FCP 6.0.6. Every time i try to open log and transfer it immediately crashes Final Cut. i already tried deleting and reinstalling FCP with no luck. I read some of the forums and tried to disable perian, no luck. it constantly crashes every time i try to open log and transfer. is there anything i can do to fix this issue? please help!

You need to use FCS Remover to completely uninstall FCS. You should never use Migration Assistant with any pro apps that call on system resources; actually you probably shouldn't use it for anything except docs and email. You will need to completely reinstall FCS from the discs.
