Transfer .fcp to cd

New to Mac. Can anyone tell me how to transfer .fcp files to cd/dvd? In HP I see the .fcp file and can drag it to disk. In Mac the disk does not exist and cannot therefore drag file to disk.
I am not wanting to know how to export .fcp files.

Welcome to the family. Go to your nearest bookstore and buy one or more of the more interesting OS10 bibles. You are going to need them.

"Transfer" the file or "burn" an optical media disk? You are using a term that can mean dramatically different things so we'll assume, since you're new, that you mean you want to burn a disk. Easy and quick: Open the Mac Help system, look up "burn CD" or "Burn DVD."
Using the help system will be much faster than posting. Here you have caused pointless exercises in mind reading and evangelism seasoned with large helpings of attitude. Try reading this segment of your inquiry from my point of view:

You can see the Mac's disk on your HP but you can't see your Mac's disk on the Mac? Floppy, optical, CD, DVD, hard, FW, removable or network? Which of the many possible disks does not exist in the Mac? What are you thinking is going to happen to an .fcp file on your HP? Are you planning on using it with a Windows application? If you have that fantasy, tell us which app because we will likely have a better, more subtle, solution for you that will deliver a movie file you can open and use.

Rats, that would be a good question to post in the FCP forum. That one we can answer.

  • How to transfer FCP project on a laptop to a desktop

    Hello,
I started to work on a project on my laptop. Now I'd like to transfer the project and all of the media files to my desktop to work on it there. What would be the best way to do it. Also if I wanted to work on the project later on my laptop how would I go about syncing it up to my laptop. Working with FCP version 5.1.4
    Thanks for the help.
    Loran

First and foremost, both systems will need to be running the EXACT same version of FCP ... and preferably, the same version of QuickTime as well.
Next copy the project file and all media to an external FW drive, then unmount it and connect it to the other system. Move the project file to your boot drive on the destination system and the media files to wherever you store media files on that system (but NOT the boot drive).
When you want to migrate back to the first system, repeat above. But you may want to rename the project file when moving to something like "project v2' (for version 2).
You can also use Media Manager to make copies of the media files, but I've never trusted it much.

  • Transfer FCP project files

We are attempting to transfer a FCP4 project file from a G5 mac to a G4 with FCP3. We get a prompt that says "Unable to open Project File" We stored the project file on a CD and transfered the file to the desktop of the G4 computer and tried to open it from there. Is it possible to transfer files as we're describing?

Yup...no XML support until FCP 4. The best you can do is an EDL, but that won't carry over keys and a majority of FCP filters and plugins. Very ancient technology EDLs.

  • Transfer FCP to After Effects CS5 XML Errors??

I seem to be having a problem. I am working on a music video and need to put some final touches on it, mainly using the remove noise tool to get some grain out of a few shots that had bad lighting. I found a way to transfer my Final Cut Pro project to After Effects using XML with an AE script called FCP2AE. I placed it in my AE scripts folder, went to Final Cut Pro, selected my video, exported to XML and then went into AE to run the script which would allow me to open the Final Cut XML file (which is what the instructions told me to do). But for some reason everytime I try to open the XML file nothing happens at all. After Effects just sits there, it wont import the file. If I click on it AE says, "After Effects error: Can't import file "export.jsx": unsupported filetype or extension."
Does anyone know why it is doing this? I would like to try and avoid exporting a Final Cut clip then importing to AE then exporting back out to Final Cut and importing all over again. If anyone has any answers please let me know. Thanks!

Are you using the proper version of the "plug-in" for +your version+ of AE? I've used this plugin with AE CS3 & FCP, flawlessly, many times.
So, I would contact Popcorn Island, the place you got the plug-in from. When I needed some tech support they were quick and on-point. Though I got the developer's direct email address after posting a comment, when I had issues. Contact me directly at kevincbrock at gmail DOT com. And I'll give you Ross's email address.

  • AVHC Log and Transfer FCP 6

I'm Log and transferring clips in FCP 6.0.6. While the Clips are OK when I view them in the log and transfer window, they're completely pixelated when I view from the browser/timeline. It's a new camera - Canon Legria http://www.canon.co.uk/forhome/product_finder/camcorders/high_definition_hd/LEGRIA_HF200/index.asp
I am transferring them from an SDHC card-Please help!

I can give more info... I just don't know what to do. Images are completely garbled. I'm sure I just have some settings wrong, but I really don't know, seeing as I haven't Log and transferred form this camera before - it would be great if someone could point me in the right direction.
    Any help is appreciated

  • Transfer fcp x project files

I helpled a friend edit a movie on a trial version of fcp x.  I have a paid copy of fcp. Is it possible to transfer her project files to my computer and continue editing the movie?

    Hi there
FCPX is a fully functional program. No restrictions. So, yes you can feel free to continue to work on a video started on one Mac and finish it up on another.
Here's a couple of links on the subject you may find useful.
    http://www.larryjordan.biz/sharing-projects-in-fcp-x/
    and
    http://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.0.6/#verb8e5fcf4
    Cheers

The second link talks about the legacy FCP, but the idea is similar.

  • How do you transfer FCP Studio Pro footage to FCP X

I have a lot of footage ond my FCP STUDIO PRO and want ot upgrade to X.  How do I get the footage over to this new software?

If you mean your FCP 7 projects - you can use an application called 7toX to transfer them to FCP X.

  • Transfer FCP License from Macbook Pro to iMac

I am about to begin editing a huge project, and currently I have Final Cut Pro 7 on my Macbook Pro Version 10.6.8. I am fine to edit on this computer, but I would prefer to edit on an iMac that formerly belonged to a friend but I now have in my possession.
So my question is: what are the steps to transferring my FCP license from my Macbook Pro to the iMac?
I do a lot of traveling and editing, so I do not want this to be a permanent transfer. How will I then be able to transfer the FCP license back to the Macbook Pro in a few months?
    Thanks!

The FCP license allows a desktop and laptop installation just so long as they are not used simultaneously.
Install the software and have at it.

  • How easy to transfer FCP 10 project to avid and premiere

If I edit in FCP10 and need polishing help with someone who uses Avid or Premiere, how easy to transfer? I especially need help cleaning up audio.
    Thanks, Donna

Short answer- not easy at all. Long answer- Avid- you would probably need to export the finished piece and they would take it in as a single clip. Premiere- you would need at least Xto7 utility- http://assistedediting.intelligentassistance.com/Xto7/
That being said- if you needed to clean up audio- FCP has a lot of those tools already such as background noise removal and plugins from Logic, etc.

  • Can I transfer FCP smarts to FCE?

My work is offering tuition reimbursement. I can get Apple certified in Final Cut Pro and they will pay for it, but here's the problem: I do not have the cash to buy Final Cut Pro after the class is done. I was wondering if it would be a waste to buy Final Cut Express - or would the skills I learn in FCP training transfer easily to FCE?

You can certainly apply what you've learned to FCE (they work the same way), but you will likely find yourself hindered in many regards-- at least that's how I feel when I use FCE. Many of the more advanced functions are not present.

  • Can you transfer FCP 7 files to FCE?

My teacher asked me this because Im working with FCE and he FCP 7, and he wants to transfer files so I can work on the same stuff. We want to do this, because I have FCE on my laptop and he has FCP 7 on a desktop and we can't bring that on the trip we are going on, so he wants to transfer the FCP 7 files from the desktop to my laptop. Will I be able to use the files in FCE?

It depends on the codec of the files.  FCP works with many different codec, while FCE only works natively with QuickTime DV and AIC.  If needed, you could convert any non-native files so they will be compatible with FCE.

  • Need to transfer FCP 5.0 project to FCP 3.0 -- use XML 1?

    Hello;
I have FCP 5.0 academic here at home, and FCP 3.0 at school on the editing lab computers.
I need to get my 5.0 final project into FCP 3.0. I experimented with EDLs, but I'm hoping there is a better way.
Searching the discussions, I saw someone recommending XML 1 for 5.0 -> 4.5. Anyone one know if this will work for 5.0 -> 3.0?
Does 3.0 have XML import ability?
    Thank you,
    Greg

I'm afraid not... XML support began with FCP 4.1.

  • Transfer FCP

I am in the process of upgrading my OS to 10.5. Currently using 10.4.11 and FCP 6.0.6. I have FCP backed up on a exteral harddrive. I want to do a "erase and install" of 10.5 but wll lose all my editing stuff. I bought my G5 from a friend who had 6.0.6 on it but would not part with the disks so I have no way to reinstall. Can I somehow take it off my external harddrive and install on my G5 or do I have to buy Studio 2? Thanks for any help.

If you have FCP on a computer you bought from someone, but DO NOT HAVE THE DISKS...then you are not using a legal copy. Therefore you can't really expect full support on the APPLE forums.
Get a legal copy and then we can talk.
And it is best to back up files, erase the hard drive and reinstall the OS and apps fresh when upgrading. Thus why you need the disks.

  • Registration transfer

    Hi everyone.
I just ordered my Mac Pro for video editing. I will be purchasing Final Cut Studio 2 very soon. I'm considering buying the software used. How do I transfer FCP registration from another person to myself? What benefits do I miss if I have full installation but no registration?
    Thanks.

  • Trying to use Dropbox with FCP

I have FCP installed both at work and at home. I am trying to use Dropbox to transfer FCP projects between my two computers. When I pull up the clips that I saved to Dropbox at work at home, all the clips say "Media Offline". Any suggestions on how to do this?

What happens when you drag the media from Dropbox back into your FCP Event? Either it will relink or if it doesn't it's because Dropbox is writing new metadata to the clips that causes FCP X to determine it's not a matching clip.
Either way, I'd think that's far too much bandwidth to push across Dropbox. A hard drive would be much simpler- even a USB thumb drive.
