Transfer files/apps from iMac to MacBook

Just bought a macBook today. What's the easiest way to transfer all files and apps to the new MacBook. Carbon Copy Cloner has not worked well for me in the past.
Old computer is a soccer ball imac 700Mhz with OS X 10.4.

Given that the old iMac is powerPC and the macbook is intel, I might not use migration assistent and follow the ideas in this thread:

That's what I did with my old iBook and new macbook, but iBook in target diskmode and copied straight over. It took a little more thought, but I've been happy with the results.

emijogar, you can backup your iPad apps on your MacBook Pro (using iTunes), but you can't actually run those apps on your laptop.
Mac desktops and laptops run OSX, but iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches run iOS. These are two different operating systems. That's why they have different App Stores (the Mac App Store for OSX, and the iTunes App Store for iOS).
You can't run OSX apps on mobile devices, and you can't run mobile apps on a laptop or desktop.
It's sorta like trying to put a bicycle tyre on a car. It just doesn't fit.
However, many OSX apps have iOS versions, and vice versa. Just check the App Stores to see what's available.

The method I've been using is plugging my phone up to my macbook and opening iTunes, then going to file> devices> transfer purchases, but nothing seemed to happen. That method will put the iOS versions of them into the computer's iTunes library. The Mac OS X versions need to be gotten from the Mac App Store.
Mac OS X and iOS are separate architectures.

You have not told us which versions of OS X either machine is running.

Can I transfer files wirelessly from PC to Macbook Pro?

Hi all,
I'm new to this, so please treat me gently - also, I'll say straight away that I'm not computer savvy, but I love my MacBook Pro.
I have an old Viao laptop running Windows XP, but the screen broke ages and I want to dispose of the laptop (I had to have it for my studies, but my uni now are able to share their files to Macs).
When the screen broke, I was able to move quite a few files to mem stick as I could see some of the screen. I would like to move the rest to my MacBook Pro, and then, hopefully, wipe my old laptop, remotely (I know - I don't want much!). So, obviously, my question is, 'Is it possible?', and 'How do I do it?'.
I charged up the old laptop today, in the hope of my MacBook Pro 'finding' it wirelessly like it did when I transferred files my old Powerbook G4 (that was so easy) before I sold it.
I'm nervous of altering too many things as I'm disabled, and rely on my Mac for virtually everything. Also, I find having to do, or think too much sometimes, because of my disability, please could you keep instructions low tech, and do-able.
I look forward to your replies - if you've managed to stay awake through my ramblings, but I've tried to give as much info as I can to enlist your help.

iOS and OS X are two completely different operating systems.
You cannot run iPhone apps on a Mac and you cannot run Mac apps on an iPhone.

No, the camera connection kit only supports the copying of photos and videos to the Photos app, it doesn't support copying content off the iPad. For your second camera instead of the SD reader part of the kit, does the iPad to camera cable not work with it for direct transfer to the iPad ?
For Lightroom and Nikon software again no - you can only install apps that are available in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad, 'normal' PC and Mac (OS X) software are not compatible with the iPad (iOS). You computer is probably perfectly repairable, but if you want a new one anyway, it is perfectly possible to transfer the data from the faulty one.
But it would be a mistake to simply put the old HD in the new computer.
These are the steps:
Remove Hard drive from faulty computer. (very easy on Unibody MBPs, do-able but not so easy on older MBPs)
Put it in a cheap enclosure
Connect it the new computer
Boot up new computer.
If the new computer has never been run before the Setup Assistant will ask if you want to import your apps, data, settings etc from either another mac, another HD connected to the Mac or a Time Machine back up.
Obviously chose the second option (another HD connected to this Mac) and follow prompts.
If the new computer has already been run (so Setup Assistant doesn't run when you boot it up), you will need to use Migration Assistant...or run the installer again so that Setup Assistant runs again.
