Transfer files from user to user

How do I set the settings so that i can transfer files from one user to another?

Put them into the /Users/Shared/ folder, log in from the other account, and copy them from there.

• I'm thinking of buying one of the new Imacs and am presently a PC user - how hard is it or how can I transfer files from my PC to a new IMac

I am thinking about purchasing a new IMac and presently use a PC. I would like to find out how difficult it is to transfer files from the PC to the IMac or in more detail - just how is it done. Many thanks for any responses.

There are several ways by which it can be done. There is a special Migration Assistant for transferring an entire user account from a PC to the Mac. You would have to establish a network connection between the two machines.
Transfer the files you want to an external USB hard drive from the PC then transfer from the external drive to the Mac.
Ask the Apple retailer if they will transfer your data to the new Mac at the time of purchase. You will need to bring the PC with you.

• How can I transfer iPhoto files from one admin user to another on the same Mac?

i created a new admin user on my computer, so now my husband has one and so do i. how can i transfer our iphoto files from his admin user to mine as a shared file? i was able to do this with itunes easily but i am not able to do it with iphoto.

You want to share the Library?
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

Welcome to the forum: please read the FAQ and forum sticky threads (if you haven't done so already), and update your profile with a real handle instead of "940509".
When you have a problem you'll get a faster, more effective response by including as much relevant information as possible upfront. This should include:

Full APEX version

Full DB/version/edition/host OS

Web server architecture (EPG, OHS or APEX listener/host OS)

Browser(s) and version(s) used

Theme

Template(s)

Region/item type(s) (making particular distinction as to whether a "report" is a standard report, an interactive report, or in fact an "updateable report" (i.e. a tabular form)
With APEX we're also fortunate to have a great resource in apex.oracle.com where we can reproduce and share problems. Reproducing things there is the best way to troubleshoot most issues, especially those relating to layout and visual formatting. If you expect a detailed answer then it's appropriate for you to take on a significant part of the effort by getting as far as possible with an example of the problem on apex.oracle.com before asking for assistance with specific issues, which we can then see at first hand.
how can save pdf file from apex to user local directory on button click? As Tony points out the ability to do so would represent a major security breach. The normal approach is to present the user with a download link that when clicked prompts them with a Save dialog in which they can select a location for the downloaded file.
What is the source of the PDF file?

How do I transfer files from my old iMac to my new Pro laptop?

If you can get both computers on the Internet at the same time without re-cabling, you have the connection infrastructure needed to enable file sharing and share those files.
That said, many users find it easier to use FireWire Target Disk mode to treat the old computer as a big Hard drive, and just drag and drop the files, or use Migration Assistant or Setup Assistent.
There is a really good guide here:

• How do I transfer files from mac with snow leopard to a new retina display mac

What is the easiest way to transfer files from my old mac(2008) snow leopard to my new retina display mac book pro?

Easiest? Well there is some sort of wireless transfer thing, but I hear it takes FOREVER like several days and it's glitchy.
The Retina doesn't have a Firewire port I believe, so Target Disk Mode is out, unless you have a adapter and I don't know how well that will work out. Cost another $30 for the adpatper I bet.
The likely most easiest?
Run down to any computer or office store and pickup a powered external USB hard drive that's the same size or larger then the old Mac's boot drive.
Boot the old Mac and download Carbon Copy Cloner.
(or use the TimeMachine if it asks, but it takes a reallly long time and if there are problems, then it's harder to recover files from)
Format the external drive in Disk Utility with Partition: option GUID and OS X Extended Journaled (default setting)
Use CCC to clone OLD A boot drive to External Drive B, takes about a few hours depending how much stuff you have.
Hook up drive to new Mac, (either clone or TimeMachine drive)
Use the free Migration Assistant in your Application Utility folder to transfer over, but creates a new user account (you can later delete one)
Or if you haven't set up the new Mac yet, when you do set it up during that process, you can transfer from the External Drive B and it won't have the account you set the machine up with naturally just uses the ones from the clone or TimeMachine drive.
Once your fine and dandy on the new machine, then Disk Utility erase and use the external USB to create either a bootable clone with CCC or a TimeMachine drive for backup.
Since you need a backup drive anyway, this method is better and happens to be reliable and easy.

• How to transfer files from emac and tiger to iMac

I am getting a new intel based iMac. How can I transfer from old eMac with Tiger OS?

What you're going to need to do is physically transfer files from your old computer to the new one. Just doing a migration will not work.
What kind of information do you want to transfer?
1. Connect the computers onto the same network. I'd recommend using an ethernet cable over a wireless network.
2. On your old computer, go into system preferences> sharing> and turn on file sharing.
3. Repeat step 2 on your new computer.
4. On your new computer, go into the Finder, open a new window. Underneath "shared" on the left hand side you should see your old computer. Select the computer and connect as the admin user of your old computer (so use your old username and password).
5. Inside of this finder window, you can navigate to the files you want to transfer.

• Can't transfer files from OS X 10.6 to computer running OS X 10.5

Since buying a new Macbook Pro running OS X 10.6 I have been unable to transfer files from the new machine to my old G5 running OS X 10.5. When I connect over my home network it appears to transfer the files but the files do not have any information. Has anyone found a fix for this problem?

WIll,
I have not a fix, but I noticed the same issue from 10.6.2 to 10.4.x.
I migrated accounts (2) from 10.4.x to the new Mac, so I have the same UserIDs on both Macintosh.
What I noticed is:
If I am logged on new Mac with userID_1 and 1) connect to the old mac with the same user userID_1, 2) mount a shared directory, I am getting permission errors and the transferred files have "Zero" as size.
but
If I am Logged on new Mac with userID_1 and 1) connect to the old mac with user userID_2, 2) mount a shared directory, I am able to transfer files without problem.
Both UserID_1 and userID_2 have Read & Write permission on shared directory.

• Can't transfer files from old macbook to new retina?

Hello, I am well aware that the macbook pro retina does not have a firewire 800 port, but rather thunderbolt. Unfortunately I didn't know of this when I asked an apple employee about how to transfer files from my old broken macbook pro (leopard) to the new retina I bought. He only told me to get a firewire 800 wire. So now I have the firewire 800 cable but I cannot connect it to a my macbook pro retina. Is there any way I could transfer files from my broken mac to this one? To be more accurate: my broken macbook pro is just that the screen is broken, otherwise I would just transfer the files by usb; but since you cannot access the computer at all except for turning it on I am unable to do this.
I do have an alternative theory, if anyone thinks it could work please let me know. My mother has a mac desktop, with a firewire 800 port. Could I transfer my files onto her computer and then transfer those via usb to the new macbook retina? Or is there a way to connect the old broken macbook to the new one? I apologize if I sound very confusing right now, it's just that I finally got my new computer and I cannot transfer my files onto it. Thank you for your help.

I used wifi to transfer two users and system preferences during setup, since that was a relatively small amount of data. To transfer my main account (40Gb or so), I turned off wifi on my old laptop, ran an ethernet cable to the ethernet-thunderbolt adapter to mbp-r, ran migration assistant on both - worked fine. I didn't feel like waiting for the firewire adapter.

• New to Mac....can transfer files from Toshiba to Mac. But can't transfer files from Mac to Toshiba??? Can anyone help please?

New Mac user......own a new iMac and iPad and still use a Toshiba Laptop. Can transfer files from Toshiba to iMac but can't transfer files other direction?

Are you doing these transfers over a Network connection, the systems are networked together over your Home LAN? Or are you doing it with an external drive?
If an external drive Mac OS X can READ Windows NTFS formatted drives but can NOT WRITE to them. So you can co[py files to the drive on your Win PC and READ them on the Mac but Mac OS X can not Write to that drive so you can't copy files from Mac to that drive.
For an external drive to work on both systems, be able to Read and Write from/to that drive, it has to be formatted either FAT32 or exFAT.

I am trying to transfer files from my old pc to my new mac. When I go to migration assistant, and hit the continue button on the introductory screen, I get a message that says M Asst wants to make changes - type your password to allow this. What is my password or how do I set one up for this?

When you set up your Mac you had to enter a admin password to set up your user account.
If you did not enter one then try using the "blank window" as your password. ie Just hit return with nothing entered.
